Why deep connection with others starts by connecting more deeply with ourselves.
How are you feeling right now? According to Celine Teoh, we all need to ask ourselves that question more often — and be more precise in how we answer it.
Teoh is a facilitator of the course Interpersonal Dynamics, one of Stanford Graduate School of Business’s most iconic classes. In her work with students and as a CEO coach, Teoh encourages people to get better acquainted with their feelings. “Feelings are data,” she says. “In the rest of our logical lives, we would never make decisions on bad or highly abstract data. But we’ll do that with feelings.”
In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart: The Podcast, Teoh and host Matt Abrahams discuss how developing greater emotional awareness can help us achieve more agency and empathy in our personal and professional lives.
Think Fast, Talk Smart is a podcast produced by Stanford Graduate School of Business. Each episode provides concrete, easy-to-implement tools and techniques to help you hone and enhance your communication skills.

The end of a relationship or a friendship can leave us with a lot of unanswered questions, especially when the split is sudden, out of the blue, and the other person is unresponsive. In other instances, we don't quite know what went wrong and are looking for answers. In today's episode we talk about the elusive myth that is closure: whether we need it, how to get it, and why we should not rely on others to provide us with permission to move on. We also discuss the closure cycle and the reasons we may THINK we are looking for closure, but are really looking for an excuse to reconnect. All of that and more, listen now!

With time you will genuinely feel differently about them – and find yourself embracing life with a new sense of freedom and fulfilment.
The clips you’ll hear include some powerful, life-changing ideas and insights on controlling your reaction to stressors, managing anxiety and overwhelm, learning to sit with your thoughts, and growing your resilience and self-compassion. As we see in a new year, with all its talk of resolutions and ‘new yous’, I think you’ll appreciate our experts’ realistic take on making healthy habits stick and overcoming limiting beliefs or unhelpful thought patterns. If you ever feel a bit lost in life, as if you’ve strayed from your intended path, this podcast will help. Together, my guests will help you to reconnect with your true, authentic self. You’ll hear from former guests including Jay Shetty, Oliver Burkeman, Rich Roll, Peter Crone, James Clear, Jim Kwik, Mel Robbins, Dr Kristen Neff, Dr Edith Eger, Pippa Grange and Julia Samuel – to name but a few – on how to harness the power of your mind and cultivate emotional and spiritual growth.
Remember that each of the clips in this podcast comes from a full-length episode. So if you like what you hear, check the show notes for links to listen to those speakers’ episodes in full. My team and I loved compiling this episode for you, it’s been a wonderful reminder of our purpose in life. And I hope that some of the wisdom you hear today will inspire you to find yours.

Feeling stuck and dissatisfied with where you are in your life is never a place we want to be in. Perhaps you are contemplating a major life change - moving to a new city, quitting your job, leaving a long term relationship - that you believe will be the antidote to your future happiness and fulfilment. Psychology shows that this might not always be the case. Wanting to change something about our environment may reflect that the true change we need to make is internal.

Humans have wrestled with questions about identity and purpose for millennia. So it’s no surprise that the insights of people who lived hundreds or even thousands of years ago have stood the test of time. This week, philosopher Tamar Gendler explores how three great thinkers from ancient Greece understood the human psyche, and what we can still learn from their wisdom today.
If you know someone who would enjoy this episode, please share it with them. And thanks for listening! We look forward to bringing you many new Hidden Brain episodes in 2024.
