Who Wants Non-Alcoholic Beer? Everyone, Apparently.
In 2017 Bill Shufelt was desperate. He’d quit his job at a hedge fund to start a business that sounded absolutely nuts: a non-alcoholic beer that people would actually want to drink. WSJ’s Ben Cohen uncovers how Shufelt’s idea has led to one of the fastest-growing movements in the beer industry.   Further Listening: -Canned or Homemade? How to Deal With The Fear of Failure and Rejection As An Entrepreneur

Today's video is a Twitter spaces conversation I had on the Founder Hotline in 2022, a show to help founders talk through tough/vulnerable topics. This conversation is full of insight I think a lot of you out there will get value from. I talk about how successful entrepreneurs get past failures, why you're scared of failing but shouldn't be, what to do if you're actually burnt out, and so much more!

Alli Webb ON: How to Embrace Imposter Syndrome & Ways to Take Small Steps Towards Big Success

For some, success is elusive while for others, it’s years of hard work and dedication.

But how can one truly and effectively achieve success?

How can we be as successful as the leaders we look up to?

Today, in the On Purpose podcast, Jay sits down with New York Times Bestselling Author, Alli Webb. After spending 15 years as a professional hairstylist, in 2010, she pioneered the Drybar concept, a chain of hair salons known for blowout services that quickly expanded nationwide. Jay and Alli go in depth about what the journey was behind creating a business to eventually selling the company for $225 million! Alli’s remarkable journey has landed her on the cover of Inc. Magazine, Fast Company's "100 Most Creative People in Business" list, Fortune magazine's "40 Under 40," and more.

Alli and Jay explored the messy truth about starting something new– whether it’s a business or a relationship. They also talked about the importance of intuition and paying attention to red flags in entrepreneurship and the role of passion and love for what you do.

You will also learn about how Alli balances her personal and professional life and the difficulty of navigating and ending a marriage. Remember that sometimes, we won’t always have the ‘perfect ending’ in our stories, and that’s okay.

    In this interview, you'll learn:

    • The messy truths of entrepreneurship
    • The importance of acknowledging imposter syndrome and using it as a source of motivation and growth
    • The challenges and risks associated with starting and running a business
    • How to take feedback as a gift

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ director Emma Tammi talks about horror innovation

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ director Emma Tammi talks about horror innovation
Halloween season is here! And actor-director-producer Emma Tammi joined us to chat about her upcoming film, Five Nights at Freddy’s, based on the popular video game franchise. She told us all about adapting a video game to a movie, working with large animatronic puppets, and creating a horror movie that’s aimed at a PG-13 audience. But the scariest part of the movie process, according to Emma? Reading the reviews. . . .Opening Friday, October 27, in theaters and on Peacock, Five Nights at Freddy’s is produced by the spooky creatives at Blumhouse with the murderous mascots from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Everyone feels like they have a book in them. Well, Roya Shariat proved it! The Glossier director of social impact and brand partnerships shared her tips on working a full-time job while pursuing her passion project. Spoiler: There’s no such thing as balance. It’s more of a trade-off. “It’s something I continue to struggle with,” says Roya, “and I’d say I’m not the best at dividing my time. It’s using my nights and weekends for that passion project and being a little ruthless sometimes about not going to socialize this month because I’ve got to work on this book proposal . . . It’s just, sometimes, not sleeping and sometimes working seven days a week.” Her cookbook, Maman and Me, is available now in bookstores around the U.S and coming soon to global markets. Still Haven't "Figured Life Out" ?

Still Haven't "Figured Life Out" ?

Whether you're 15, 25, 37 or even 90, the only thing you need to have "figured out" is what you're actually good at, and go all-in on that.  And that can be anything from a problem solver to an amazing swimmer.  Instead of "wishing" you could be something that you can't, it's time to double down on your strengths.  Pat Bev knew that at a young age and we talked about self-awareness with his co-host Rone in today's podcast episode.  Everything from sports to personal growth, and everything in between, you won't want to miss this one!

    ARRAY: Filmmaker Ava DuVernay (2021)

    ARRAY: Filmmaker Ava DuVernay (2021)

By her early thirties, Ava DuVernay was already a successful entrepreneur, having founded her own film publicity agency in Los Angeles. But after years of watching other people make films, she started to get an itch to tell her own stories onscreen. Ava's first films were rooted in deeply personal experiences: growing up with her sisters in Compton, performing Hip Hop at Open Mic Night at the Good Life Café in L.A. Her self-funded and self-distributed projects began to draw attention, and in 2012, Ava won the award for best directing at the Sundance Film Festival. She went on to direct powerful projects like Selma, 13th, and When They See Us; and through her production and distribution company ARRAY, she's created a movement that is helping change how movies are made—and who gets to make them.

The Psychology of Decision Making: Strategies for Better Choices

The Psychology of Decision Making: Strategies for Better Choices

Today, we're diving deep into the fascinating world of decision-making because, let's face it, we make choices left and right every single day. Some are as big as deciding to tie the knot or have kiddos, while others are as small as picking out the right T-shirt color!

So, what's the secret sauce to making the best choices for your life? Well, I've got some fantastic tips to share with you:

1️⃣ First things first, let's talk about finding your "North Star." It's like setting your life's GPS to what truly matters to you. What do you want your life to look like, and what's your ultimate purpose? Let's align your decisions with that guiding star!

2️⃣ You've got skills and talents, right? So do I! But it's essential to choose paths that align with your North Star, not just the ones that bring in the big bucks. Trust me; fulfillment is the name of the game.

3️⃣ Speaking of fulfillment, ever noticed how some choices just feel right deep down in your gut? Well, there's actual science behind it! Your gut feeling, or intuition, is a powerful decision-making tool linked to your enteric nervous system. It's your second brain, and it's worth paying attention to!

4️⃣ To make even better choices, try the "10-10-10 rule." Ask yourself how you'll feel about a decision in 10 minutes, 10 months, and 10 years. It's like peering into the future to see if your choice stands the test of time!

5️⃣ Lastly, remember to pause and reflect. Give your brain some time to shift from emotional reactions to logical reasoning. This simple step can save you from impulsive decisions you might regret later.

I get it; we're often drawn to logical thinking, but sometimes our feelings and intuition are our secret superpowers. When you blend gut instincts with critical thinking, magic happens! 🌟

So, join me on this incredible journey of self-discovery and better decision-making. Hit that subscribe button, leave a comment, and let's embark on a mind-blowing adventure together!

A World Champion Athlete & Oscar-Nominated Writer on Mindset, Performance & Persistence

A World Champion Athlete & Oscar-Nominated Writer on Mindset, Performance & Persistence
With over 400 triathlons to her name, today's guest Lesley Paterson is a 3x XTERRA Triathlon World Champion and 2x World Triathlon Cross Champion. But if you asked about her greatest test of endurance, it wouldn’t be a race. It would be chasing an Oscar. For 16 years during her professional triathlon career, Lesley fought to secure and maintain the film rights to All Quiet on the Western Front out of her own pocket from race winnings. She wrote and rewrote the script, and despite the odds stacked heavily against her, never gave up on her dream of getting the movie made. After many years of starts and stops the film was finally released and took home four Oscars and seven BAFTAs—including one for best-adapted screenplay (this was Lesley’s first screenplay might I add). All of which is a testament to her patience, discipline, and hard work. Lesley’s relentless persistence is the focus of today’s conversation, along with the importance of self-belief, playing the long game, and the ‘never quit’ drive required to crush audacious goals. Delightful, engaging, and strong, I adore Lesley. There’s a lot to learn from this fiery Scottish lassie. Note: If you like this exchange, be sure to check out her book The Brave Athlete, which is packed with actionable practices to build an endurance mindset. This Is Why People Lack Happiness.

This Is Why People Lack Happiness.

Today's podcast is a throwback to 2019, featuring a keynote I delivered in Orlando. In this keynote, I delve into the root causes of unhappiness that prevent you from pursuing what you genuinely desire. Whether it's launching a podcast, creating a new video, or posting a photo of yourself on social media, much of the hesitation stems from people placing too much value on judgment and societal norms over their own happiness. I deeply explore how this mindset can be harmful and offer insights on how to overcome such thinking patterns. Enjoy!
