How can we apply energy psychology to the seven key stages of the addiction recovery process?

My guest this episode is Dr. David Feinstein, a clinical psychologist who serves as national director for the Energy Medicine Institute. Dr. Feinstein sent me his manual on energy healing for the addiction recovery process and I knew I wanted to interview him. In this episode, we will discuss the difference between energy psychology and energy medicine, how energy psychology supports addiction recovery and how it can help with the big emotions that can come up during that process, and the seven stages of addiction recovery.

    Jennifer Lanie's Bio:

I have walked many miles in your shoes. For nearly 30 years I struggled with chronic health issues including Endometriosis, Lupus, Raynaud’s, and Lyme Disease. I know what it’s like to feel uncomfortable, exhausted, frustrated, and hopeless. I finally got real answers and learned how to help my body heal itself and my mission is to help you do the same thing.

The fast-paced, nonstop treadmill of daily life causes chronic stress, emotional fatigue and adrenal exhaustion which leads to illness and dysfunction. My great passion is bringing healing to exhausted women to balance their hormones and other body systems with functional testing, nutrition, and practical lifestyle changes. I help my clients to regain optimal health so they feel energized and able to enjoy life to the fullest again.

I know that no single approach is right for every individual, that’s why each and every client receives a personalized, health rebuilding protocol based on their own functional lab work and specific needs.

All work and no play make Jenn a dull girl, so in my spare time you can find me at a hot yoga class, making something yummy and healthy in my kitchen, doing something outside (as long as it’s not cold), attempting to play tennis or planning bucket list vacations.

In addition to my FDN-P certification, I am also a certified biology educator and CrossFit coach and I hold a bachelor’s degree in biology.

The foundation of our health is a robust immune system that has a very important mechanism of cleaning out inflammatory cells. If this process is broken, the inflammatory cells can actually turn other functioning cells into inflammatory cells. Our daily life habits and exposures, such as sleep, stress management, diet, and toxins, affect key biological processes that impact our immune function. When our immune health is functioning properly, the rest of our body follows with less illness and disease.

In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Elizabeth Boham and Dr. Leonard Calabrese about ways that we can support our immune systems to reduce the chance of illness and disease.

Dr. Elizabeth Boham is a physician and nutritionist who practices Functional Medicine at The UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA. Through her practice and lecturing she has helped thousands of people achieve their goals of optimum health and wellness. She witnesses the power of nutrition every day in her practice and is committed to training other physicians to utilize nutrition in healing.

Dr. Leonard Calabrese is a Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and Vice Chair of the Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases. He is also the director of the RJ Fasenmyer Center for Clinical Immunology at the Cleveland Clinic and holds joint appointments in the Department of Infectious Diseases and the Wellness Institute.

    Strategies To Reverse Autoimmune Disease

This episode is brought to you by Essentia and Cozy Earth.

Simply put, autoimmune diseases are conditions where the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues rather than a foreign molecule like bacteria, and they are a huge problem both in this country and worldwide. You’re probably familiar with the most common autoimmune diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, type 1 diabetes, hypothyroidism, and psoriasis. But there are many more autoimmune diseases that affect the nervous system, joints and muscles, skin, endocrine gland, and heart.

In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I talk about the main causes of autoimmune disease, the conventional medicine approach versus the Functional Medicine approach to treating autoimmune disease, and how to reverse the course of these devastating illnesses.

49: Beneath The Surface: Childhood Freeze in Autoimmunity

49: Beneath The Surface: Childhood Freeze in Autoimmunity

In this episode, Dr. Keesha Ewers joins me to discuss the connection between the freeze response and autoimmunity. We look at the body’s freeze response during traumatic experiences and how those triggers lead to a pattern of nervous system reactivity. We also dive deeper into the freeze response and why it is more common in children. These traumatic experiences can lead to the formation of beliefs and adaptive behaviors that persist into adulthood.

We take a deeper look at unresolved anger, specifically unexpressed anger turned towards oneself, and how it is associated with autoimmune conditions. The question we want to answer is: How is the freeze response behind autoimmunity?

    7 Strategies To Address ADHD

    7 Strategies To Address ADHD

This episode is brought to you by ButcherBox and AG1.

In today’s world, we are seeing an epidemic of ADHD, along with depression, anxiety, dementia, autism, and more. These are systemic disorders where the body affects the brain. Yes, there’s a mind-body connection, but there’s also a body-mind connection. And everybody is different. ADHD is just a name we give to people who share a collection of symptoms: They can’t focus or pay attention, they’re inattentive, and they are hyperactive. These are symptoms. But what are the causes?

In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I talk about what causes ADHD, why it’s so prevalent, and my top strategies to address it. I also share a case study of a patient I treated for ADHD.

Are Your Gut Issues, Headaches, Heart Palpitations, And Other Symptoms Due To Histamine Intolerance?

Are Your Gut Issues, Headaches, Heart Palpitations, And Other Symptoms Due To Histamine Intolerance?

This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Mitopure, and Cozy Earth

Histamine is a common term when discussing allergies, but there is really so much more to it. Histamine is both made by the body and found in food. It has a key function in digestion and also acts as a neurotransmitter. People who have more histamine in their bodies than they can break down may experience a variety of symptoms including hives, heart palpitations, migraines, fluid retention, runny nose, and more. Often, histamine intolerance can be traced back to gut dysbiosis and mast cell activation syndrome.

In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Todd LePine, Dr. Leo Galland, and Lisa Dreher about how histamine plays a role in sleep, digestion, allergies, skin conditions, and so much more.

Dr. Todd LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is board certified in internal medicine, specializing in integrative Functional Medicine. He is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner. Prior to joining The UltraWellness Center, he worked as a physician at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA, for 10 years.

Dr. Leo Galland is a board-certified internist, an international bestselling author, and one of the founders of Functional Medicine. Since the onset of the pandemic, he has devoted most of his time to research on Covid-19 and to the education of other health practitioners in understanding the biology of the disease. His latest publication, Long Covid: Prevention and Treatment, is available on his website.

Lisa Dreher is a registered dietitian who got her undergraduate nutrition degree at the Rochester Institute of Technology and completed a dietetic internship through Cornell University. Lisa first worked in the acute care hospital setting and became a clinical nutrition specialist working in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. At the same time, she pursued her master’s degree in nutrition and integrative health from the Maryland University of Integrative Health and started practicing integrative and functional nutrition in private practice before joining The UltraWellness Center in 2015.
