The Last Breath: Mindfulness of Mortality Meditation (94)

The Last Breath: Mindfulness of Mortality Meditation (94)

In this episode, we dive into a mindfulness of death meditation, inspired by the Buddhist practice of maraṇasati and Episode 93 with death doula, Jill McClennan. "Mindfulness of Mortality" offers a guided meditation focused on the acceptance of life’s impermanence.

By acknowledging mortality, we are encouraged to live with more purpose and mindfulness. The practice draws on mindfulness of death to facilitate a deeper connection with the present, highlighting the value of each moment and the importance of intentionality in our lives.

Whether you’re exploring mindfulness for the first time or looking to deepen your practice, this episode provides a thoughtful approach to understanding life’s transient nature. This session aims to shift perspectives on death—from a topic often avoided to a concept that can enhance our appreciation for life.

Tune in to redefine your relationship with life and death, and discover how acknowledging impermanence can lead to a more intentional and fulfilling life.

The foundation of our health is a robust immune system that has a very important mechanism of cleaning out inflammatory cells. If this process is broken, the inflammatory cells can actually turn other functioning cells into inflammatory cells. Our daily life habits and exposures, such as sleep, stress management, diet, and toxins, affect key biological processes that impact our immune function. When our immune health is functioning properly, the rest of our body follows with less illness and disease.

In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Elizabeth Boham and Dr. Leonard Calabrese about ways that we can support our immune systems to reduce the chance of illness and disease.

Dr. Elizabeth Boham is a physician and nutritionist who practices Functional Medicine at The UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA. Through her practice and lecturing she has helped thousands of people achieve their goals of optimum health and wellness. She witnesses the power of nutrition every day in her practice and is committed to training other physicians to utilize nutrition in healing.

Dr. Leonard Calabrese is a Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and Vice Chair of the Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases. He is also the director of the RJ Fasenmyer Center for Clinical Immunology at the Cleveland Clinic and holds joint appointments in the Department of Infectious Diseases and the Wellness Institute.

    122. Nurture the Soul: 3 Tools for Internal Growth

How do you nurture your soul? We would love to share a few simple but essential ways to give your soul the things it needs to grow and thrive. Spirituality is not a luxury for when we have extra time or energy. Rather, it can be integrated into every aspect of our lives. Join us, Monica and Michael Berg, as we talk about how to prioritize a daily spiritual practice on this episode of Spiritually Hungry.

“Spirit is something that needs to be taken care of. It’s more important than any other pursuit, including the mind or the body.” – Monica Berg

Your Happy Place Meditation - 7 Minutes "Calm To-go"

Your Happy Place Meditation - 7 Minutes "Calm To-go"

The Happy Place Meditation is a powerful technique to bring calm and peace into any situation.

Using the VAKOG sensory technique (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory, Gustatory), this meditation will guide you through the process of establishing your happy place in a way that you can return to it any time you need.

We recommend doing this meditation for the first time when you feel rested and relaxed. This will allow you to go deeper into the visualisation of your happy place and intensify the experience, making later happy place meditations easier. But don't worry! This meditation will still be valuable if you are meditating in between work calls. :)

    10% Happier

    10% Happier
Not too many years ago, if you told someone you wanted to meditate they looked at you as if you had two heads. It was for the very religious or uber spiritual. But meditation is now going mainstream and is practiced by athletes, professionals, celebrities and us just plain folks everywhere. Its health benefits have been studied and proclaimed widely and it is now being accepted as more than just o.k. One of the reasons it is catching on mainstream is because of people like Dan Harris. In 2014 Harris of ABC News published a book about his experience with Mindfulness Meditation and how it has helped him cope with the everyday stresses of life as a co-anchor on national news. Dan Harris is with us on this show to tell how it has made him 10% Happier. We have the privilege of hearing about it first hand—or as a news anchor would say, up close and personal. Don't miss hearing what Dan Harris has to say!
