Oxytocin Unlocked: Fellowship, Generosity, and the Chemistry of Connection

Oxytocin Unlocked: Fellowship, Generosity, and the Chemistry of Connection

Dive into the heartwarming realm of oxytocin, the 'third gear of drive,' with Clint Armitage in this soul-stirring episode at the Radio Coffee House. Uncover the remarkable power of the 'love hormone' and its profound impact on forging strong, trust-filled bonds that resonate with our spiritual journey towards embodying the fruits of the Spirit. Clint explores the divine design behind oxytocin's role in childbirth, friendship, and even the simple act of giving, revealing how this hormone not only fosters immediate connections but also enhances our overall mental and emotional health.

In this episode, we delve into how oxytocin is released during acts of generosity and fellowship. It also aligns with Biblical teachings, reinforcing the spiritual call to love and care for one another. Clint dissects how this chemical process, initiated by God, works in tandem with our actions to amplify feelings of safety, trust, and psychological stability. Discover the spiritual and chemical synergy that fuels our ability to live a life filled with joy, peace, and love.

Clint doesn't stop at theory; he provides actionable steps and a 'homework assignment' to experience the uplifting effects of oxytocin firsthand. By engaging in fellowship, acts of service, and even watching videos of random acts of kindness, listeners can tap into the joyous cycle of giving and receiving that oxytocin helps facilitate. Plus, learn how this hormone can combat addiction and boost creativity, problem-solving, and healthier immune system.

Tune in to experience the transformational power of oxytocin and embrace the fullness of life God intends for us. This episode is not just a lesson in biochemistry; it's an invitation to actively participate in a life more abundant, connected, and divinely inspired.

The Bio-Spirituality of Emotions: Why Being Honest Can Literally Save Your Life (World of Emotions, Part II)

The Bio-Spirituality of Emotions: Why Being Honest Can Literally Save Your Life (World of Emotions, Part II)

We tend to think of emotions as things that “just happen,” and there’s a lot of truth in that. But it’s also true that we have far more agency to cultivate and develop our emotional life in specific and stunning ways, changing the experience and direction of our lives. We don’t have to become stuck in emotions or live devoid of emotion. In this episode, we follow the work of Dr. Candace Pert and explore the physiology of emotions: that emotions are based in chemical realities grounded in “molecules of emotion”—neurotransmitters and neuropeptides. That this physicality is actually the basis of our spirituality. And that we have power to experience emotion in stunning ways which can ultimately help us change the world around us.

Mix Up LOVE, And You Get V-O-L-E

Mix Up LOVE, And You Get V-O-L-E
You may have heard of the "love hormone," or oxytocin. But you may not know that scientists have relied on cuddly rodents like the prairie vole to help us understand how this protein works in our brains.

Voles are stocky, mouse-like little mammals that range over most of North America. One species in particular, the prairie vole, is known for its fidelity: Prairie voles pair-bond and mate for life.

And so, for years, scientists have known that oxytocin is important in facilitating the feeling of love in both humans and voles. However, a new study suggests love can prevail even without the "love hormone" – at least among prairie voles.

On today's episode, NPR's science correspondent Jon Hamilton tells Short Wave co-host Emily Kwong how prairie voles, once again, are helping us understand and appreciate something as abstract as love.

Struck by cupid's arrow and wondering what's love got to do, go to do with it? Email us at shortwave@npr.org. You can follow Short Wave on Twitter @NPRShortWave.

    #141 - Sensuality

    #141 - Sensuality

We often spend our lives avoiding things that make us feel uncomfortable, but we should feel and experience those things instead because they will give us the opportunity to fully appreciate what life has to offer. Even if we long to experience sensuality in our lives, some of us don't seem to be able to because they only stay for the good things in life and leave the bad ones behind.

We should allow ourselves to have both positive and negative experiences because life is all about them. We need to quit trying to escape the inconvenient things God sends our way because these things are not sent to us only to cause us pain; rather, they are sent to us for a special purpose.

In this episode, Andrew and Carina talk about the importance of understanding sensuality and how we may intentionally cultivate it to fully appreciate all areas of our lives.

Is Withholding Sex A Form Of Punishment?

In episode 8 the ladies talk about the risk in withholding intimacy, and the benefits of oxytocin in a relationship. They also discuss the love hormone in the brain, and wonder if it is true that a woman's DNA can be affected by the men she is intimate with.

But before getting to their subject, the ladies catch up. Liz has just dropped her daughter off at college and is ready to be single pringle and childless. Mari is starting to morph into a girlie girl, and Zuly has interesting questions about everyone's shower routines.
