Harvard Psychology Prof: “STRESS Is The #1 Cause of DISEASE - Do THIS To HEAL!” | Dr. Ellen Langer

Today, we have a true pioneer in the world of psychology, Dr. Ellen Langer. She made history as the first woman to be tenured in psychology at Harvard University. Known as the "mother of mindfulness" and the "mother of positive psychology," Dr. Langer's work has shown that our thoughts can influence our physical well-being, from weight loss to wound healing. In her new book, "The Mindful Body," Dr. Langer challenges conventional thinking about the mind and body.  We'll delve into her fascinating findings and her bold theory of mind-body unity.

    A Psychologist Answers Your Questions

    A Psychologist Answers Your Questions

This episode, we’re speaking to Dr Sarah Morris, a clinical psychologist in Melbourne, Australia. Not only is Sarah a specialist who runs her own practice, but she is also a follower of Jesus who walks the road daily in both mental health and faith spaces.

Have you ever wondered, ‘What exactly does a psychologist do?’ Or maybe you’ve heard about cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and ‘measurement-based practice’ and have no idea what those things involve. Well, Dr Sarah is here to answer all our questions!

If you’ve never had any firsthand experience of seeing a psychologist, it can sometimes be a bit confusing to know exactly what that looks like. And, if you’re a person of faith, you may have wondered whether the field of psychology is compatible with our faith.

In this episode, Dr Sarah gives us an overview on what psychology is, how it differs from psychiatry and counselling, and also shares about some of the common types of treatments that psychologists will use with someone. She also shares with us how her Christian faith plays into her profession, and whether faith and psychology are ever at odds. Listen in to find out!

    --

Here in Australia, you can visit a psychologist by chatting with your GP to get on a ‘mental health care plan’. If you’re wanting to know what that first visit to your GP looks like, check out this short video of Dr Sarah (a different Dr Sarah from this episode!) explaining the process.

The incident would also become the first-ever widely publicized alien abduction account and shape how stories like it were told from then on. Debate continues on whether the Hills were delusional, mentally unstable, fueled by sleep deprivation, or just plain liars

Is There Tension Between Faith and Psychology?

Is There Tension Between Faith and Psychology?

Psychology can sometimes be a tricky topic, especially within the church. The practice of psychology–or any form of therapy, really–is often seen as taboo; something to avoid because it might not align with our faith.

So isn’t going to a professional for our problems suggesting that God isn’t enough?

Does seeing a psychologist–especially one who might not be a Christian–go against our faith? Can the two go hand in hand?

In this episode, we’re chatting with Chris–a familiar voice here at Anxious Faith. Previously, Chris has shared with us his own journey with depression (listen to that episode here), and how visits to a psychologist were a key part of helping him through it.

    Fraud

    Fraud
If you’ve turned on a television or opened a newspaper lately, you were likely inundated with a multitude of true stories of scammers, grifters, and con men and women. Today we’re focusing on two big ones. The first is Anna Sorokin, AKA Anna Delvey, the Russian-born German scammer who convinced major players in the art and finance world of Manhattan that, not only was she was a wealthy socialite, but that they should loan her hundreds and thousands of dollars to open a “foundation” in her name. Next, we’ll talk about Elizabeth Holmes, the recently convicted felon and disgraced founder of the defunct medical device company Theranos, who defrauded high-profile investors to the tune of $121 million dollars.

AEM #52 – Paul DeBlassie III, PhD, Clinical Psychologist Talks About Pain, Trauma, Self Sabotaging & Finding Safety

AEM #52 – Paul DeBlassie III, PhD, Clinical Psychologist Talks About Pain, Trauma, Self Sabotaging & Finding Safety

In this episode I am talking with leading clinical psychologist and author, Paul DeBlassie III. Paul has worked in the field of psychology for 30 years plus and has mainly specialised in working with religious abuse and trauma. He is also the bestselling author of several books including: Goddess of Everything, Goddess of The Wild Thing, and The Unholy.

I really enjoyed this conversation and loved how relaxed and wise Paul was. He talked about world leaders and the trauma that they carry. He talked about Putin and what he sees there. He also went into some depth about his work with trauma treatment and self-hatred. He went on to speak about self-sabotaging and how we find safety. A really fascinating conversation.

    ---

Paul DeBlassie III, Ph.D. is a depth psychologist and award-winning writer living in his native New Mexico, crafting metaphysical thrillers energized with trickster mischief and natural magic. His novels, visionary thrillers, delve deep into archetypal realities as they play out dramatically in the lives of everyday people. Metaphysical dramas set in the mythopoeic realm of Aztlan open vistas of danger, conflict and potential transformation. Good and evil are pivotal arenas for unfolding tales of the supernatural.

Together with visionary/metaphysical novels, he also writes blogs and archetypal essays on trauma, dreams, spirituality, and intuition.

Some of the areas of interest:

    1. I would love for you to share some of your journey. How did you arrive at doing what you do now?
    2. Some of the areas to talk about:
      1. Spirituality
      2. Depth psychology
      3. Dreams – how do we connect and understand dreams? How do we integrate the messages that our dreams are telling us? What is the best way to work with dreams?
      4. Trauma and how to treat it
      5. Pain
      6. Archetypes
      7. The shadows
      8. World Leaders
      9. Finding safety
      10. The culture of the church
    3. Some of Paul's quotes:
      1. "Depth psychologist Robert D. Romanyshyn in his paper, “The World Is a Tissue of Metaphors,” noted that the dream: “is a nightly address to the ego-mind which undoes its fixed positions, a kind of nightly humiliation that humbles consciousness and leads it back into the earth, a journey that re-situates mind in the humus, the soil of the soul. (2011, p. 2)”
      2. “Descent into the underworld, stepping into the Cave of All Knowing, and plunging into the mother sea of the collective unconscious, symbolize immersion into self, leaning into and immersing ourselves in the pulse and beat of the confluence of our inner and outer lives. From such immersion a transformation occurs: what Romanyshyn described as “ordinary epiphanies of the moment that, when we are ready and properly disposed, are momentous epiphanies, festive occasions when the miracle in the ordinary manifests itself, moments that are occasions for wonder and celebration” (2011, p. 4).”https://www.depthinsights.com 2012

    Flight, Fight, Freeze, Fawn
When a zebra in the wild senses a lion is about to attack, something interesting happens: the zebra’s body, or, more specifically, its parasympathetic nervous system, takes over and does its best to help its host, the zebra, escape a detrimental fate. Without the zebra’s conscious participation, the zebra’s body decides whether fight or flight—running away—is the best move. A version of this, also known as a stress response, happens in humans too and that’s what we’re talking about on today’s episode.

Multiple Selves Without a Central Self | Jordan Gruber ~ ATTMind 168

Multiple Selves Without a Central Self | Jordan Gruber ~ ATTMind 168

Jordan Gruber is one of the authors of "Your Symphony Of Selves" and joins us to discuss how we all have multiple selves, not a single self.

Some of the topics we explore in this episode include an in-depth look at The Health Selves Model in comparison and contrast to The Single Self Assumption; why we mistakenly assume multiple selves to be pathological; how mental health is being in the right mind (self/selves) as the right time; and how we can start applying the healthy selves model into our lives today.

We also talk about Monotheism’s influence on the single self assumption—“the single god assumption”; how Buddishm’s noself and interdependence relates to multiple selves; the difference between multiple selves and Jungian archetypes/autonomous complexes; how Sigmund Freud helped The Single Self Assumption dominate the western mind; and how the very origins of Freud’s model of the mind might be in the gaslighting of sexual abuse.

Furthermore, we also explore psychedelic journeying and healing from a healthy selves model; how we might understand the effects of psychedelics on the ego, if there is no such thing as an ego; as well as all of reality being fractal iterations of various wholistic expressions of cosmic multiplicity while debating the validity of The Essential Self, Self Energy, and our ability to live in relationship to “Ultimate Reality”. And, of course, more. Enjoy.

Ep. 695 - Proof of Spiritual Phenomena: A Neuroscientist's Discovery of the Mysteries of the Universe | Mona Sobhani, PhD
11-14-22 Allen Cardoza Interviews Mona Sobhani, PhD
    https://monasobhaniphd.com/
    http://answers.network

Neuroscientist Mona Sobhani, Ph.D., details her transformation from diehard materialist to open-minded spiritual seeker and shares the extensive research she discovered on past lives, karma, and the complex interactions of mind and matter. She reveals her conversations about spirituality, consciousness, and anomalous occurrences with scientific colleagues as well as high-level experts and government officials, as she searched for proof of a meaningful cosmos.

She discovered that psi research has been conducted on a grand scale for more than a century--by hundreds of scientists with hundreds of thousands of participants--and that there exists substantial evidence for the reality of psi. She examines meta-analyses of these experiments, such as that of the Ganzfield tests, which showed the odds against chance of 12 billion to 1--throwing our current scientific materialist paradigm into question.

Providing a deep dive into the literature of psychology, quantum physics, neuroscience, philosophy, and esoteric texts, Sobhani also explores the relationship between psi phenomena, the transcendence of space and time, and spirituality. Culminating with the author’s serious reckoning with one of the foundational principles of neuroscience--scientific materialism-- this illuminating book shows that the mysteries of human experience go far beyond what the present scientific paradigm can comprehend and leaves open the possibility of a participatory, meaningful Universe.
