2 Ways to Deepen Your Connection with Your Partner & The Key to Strong and Lasting Relationships

Today, I talk to John and Julie Gottman to discuss how to strengthen relationships. Dr. Julie and John share their thoughts on why we should stop being the person who we think our partners like and start being our genuine selves, what can we do to build and/or improve intimacy with our partner, and how to deal with the changes you and your partner go through without losing the connection and stay committed to each other.

Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman is a co-founder and President of The Gottman Institute and co-founder of Affective Software, Inc. with her husband John Gottman. For over 40 years they have devoted their life to the research and practice of fostering healthy, long-lasting relationships through the training of clinicians and the creation of transformative products for couples around the world.

Depending on what form they take, our relationships with others can either make our lives fulfilling and joyful or stressful and even sad. Everyone has the intention to live well and feel happy, but so many of our choices derail us from those goals. Investing our time and energy into our relationships (even the one we have with ourselves) might be the key.

Dr. Waldinger is also a Zen master (roshi) and teaches meditation in New England and around the world.

Esther Perel, psychotherapist and New York Times bestselling author, is recognized as one of today’s most insightful and original voices on modern relationships. Fluent in nine languages, she helms a therapy practice in New York City and serves as an organizational consultant for Fortune 500 companies around the world. Her celebrated TED Talks have garnered more than 30 million views and her bestselling books, Mating in Captivity and The State of Affairs, are global phenomena translated into nearly 30 languages.

Angelika Alana is the founder and CEO of the Somatic Healing Institute. She has been featured in Vanity Fair, Well+Good, and Modern Luxury. She certifies coaches and facilitators in her transformational body-based healing method. She has traveled and studied extensively in Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, and the UK, and is a massive foodie with her husband Patrick Drake, cofounder of Hello Fresh.

Drew Barrymore ON: Reframing Society's Expectations of Love & How to Know When to Let Go of an Unproductive Relationship

Drew Barrymore ON: Reframing Society's Expectations of Love & How to Know When to Let Go of an Unproductive Relationship

You can order my new book 8 RULES OF LOVE at 8rulesoflove.com or at a retail store near you. You can also get the chance to see me live on my first ever world tour. This is a 90 minute interactive show where I will take you on a journey of finding, keeping and even letting go of love. Head to jayshettytour.com and find out if I'll be in a city near you. Thank you so much for all your support - I hope to see you soon.

Today, I am talking to Drew Barrymore. Drew is a talented actress, producer, and director, known for her roles in films such as "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial", "Charlie's Angels", and "50 First Dates." She made her acting debut at the age of six in the film "Altered States" and rose to fame as a child star in the 1982 film "E.T." She has since established herself as a leading lady in Hollywood and has also produced and directed several films. In addition to her successful career in the entertainment industry, she is also an author and a businesswoman, with her own production company and a cosmetics line. Currently, she hosts the The Drew Barrymore Show, which debuted in 2020 and has been renewed for a fourth season this year.

Drew shares her thoughts on being more empathetic, which means putting ourselves in others' shoes and treating them with kindness and compassion, why learning self-forgiveness is crucial for personal growth and healing, liberating or freeing yourself from mental, physical, or emotional constraints and can be achieved through self-awareness, self-care, and self-love. Prioritizing ourselves means taking care of our physical and mental well-being, setting boundaries, and making time for our own needs and wants.

It is important to remember that we cannot pour from an empty cup, and taking care of ourselves allows us to show up fully for others.

    What We Discuss:

    • 00:00:00 Intro
    • 00:00:22 It was a new show and nobody wanted to talk

Humble the Poet ON: How to Get Out Your Own Way to Find Love & Breaking Society's Common Myths About Relationships

Today, I am talking to Kanwer Singh aka Humble the Poet. Humble is a toronto-bred mc/spoken word artist with an aura that embodies the diversity and resiliency of one of the world’s most unique cities. He stimulates audiences with ideas that challenge conventional wisdom and go against the grain, with dynamic live sets that shake conventions and minds at the same time. Humble's latest EP titled Righteous/Ratchet features the first single H.A.I.R, a celebration of women of all shapes, sizes, hair and walks of life. His self directed video for H.A.I.R has amassed almost 2 million views since its release. The video features YouTube sensation and longtime collaborator, Lilly Singh. His first book Unlearn: 101 Simple Truths For A Better Life was published through Indigo Press in October 2017 and became Heather's Pick and has stayed on the Globe & Mail Bestsellers list since its release. Humble's next book Things No One Else Can Teach Us was released in the fall of 2019.

Humble emphasizes the importance of making the relationship you have with yourself the best among all the relationships you currently have. This is because knowing your own self worth will make setting boundaries easier for you and for the people around you. We exchange thoughts on what makes us resilient, why self respect matters more than self-esteem, the constant validation we seek from others, and what makes love so simple.
