On this episode we discuss a phone interview I had with a University Student back East about what worries me most about the future of our children. I give my top 3, and they are 1. Trauma, 2. Addiction and 3. Participation Trophies. We go over each one discussing them, We talk numbers and statistics. We talk about what the biggest challenges currently are for our children. Then we talk about solutions and what can we do to change the trajectory. "We spend too much time preparing the road for our children, instead of preparing our children for the road". Ponder on that. Today we talk about childhood stories, and why you need to share parts of your childhood with your significant other. This is important so they can understand where you have come from and why you are the way you are.  These stories tie together not just the two of you, but also the other important family members in your lives. Often during childhood, children can experience trauma. This trauma can effect relationships through adulthood. We talk about the ACES test, (americanspcc.org) and how your score can effect your health and life as an adult. We talk about breaking the chain of abuse, and how as an adult you and only you determine your future. Relationships can be challenging, but you can lessen the challenge by having these important conversations while dating. Communication is key. As we enter the week of Thanksgiving Jon & Tracy share their ideas on positivity and looking for the things to be thankful for. We revisit our challenge last week of telling your significant other three things you are thankful for them for. Then writing a 2 minute text to someone in your circle of friends and letting them know how thankful you are for them. We want to hear how it went for you. What did your significant other think? Small acts of kindness don't just need to be for random strangers, they can be for your special someone. Don't look to be be a fixer, when it comes to your spouse, but rather build them up, show support and trust, helping them to be the best version of themself. You fell in love with them for a reason, your love is built over time, and trials, brick by brick. Stop and look at a current family photo, that is love. Today we poke a little fun at husbands thinking they do so much around the house, while we know the women carry us. We share more of our story, and having our first child together, (third in our family). We explain how suddenly everything can go wrong in an instant. How close Jon came to losing, both his wife, and daughter during childbirth. You won't want to miss this story. We left you with a challenge to share 3 things you are thankful for about your spouse, with them. You'll be suprised how that will change them and you.

This week Tracy let Jon pick a romantic movie to watch, and he chose This is 40. Tracy picked a clip to discuss, and so did Jon. Interestingly enough the topic is arguing or fighting as a couple. Tracy lays out a 2 step process for men to know how to navigate a disagreement. We talk about how important communication is in a relationship. We discuss traits you may have inherited from your parents, and how to decide what you are willing to carry on through another generation, and what to end now. Well we kept our lunch date, and watched the Notebook. We talk about it, and how we have had to fight for our future. Tracy and I realized early on that our odds were not great, and if we were to make it we would have to fight for each other everyday. We chat about what we did well, and what we failed at early on, and what we would have done differently if given the chance. Tracy gave me permission to wear my ball cap again... Not going to happen! You'll have to listen to understand. Maybe this week, I can get her to watch Forrest Gump. 

Welcome to our first episode of Beauty in the Shitshow. So often in life we feel that others sail through life with no problems. Blame social media, Walt Disney or Nicholas Sparks, but life is messy. Marriage is hard. Hopefully through this podcast you will begin to see Beauty in the Shitshow we call life. We will share our story of successes and failures, we won't be shy.
