Ep.140 - What can I bring to God

Ep.140 - What can I bring to God

The Old Testament Sacrificial system where a person brought an animal or other offerings before the Lord was superseded by the Cross.  There is no longer a sacrifice needed to atone for sin since the Son of God became sin for us that we could become the righteousness of God.  But that doesn't mean we still don't offer sacrifices to the Lord.  The biggest sacrifice we can offer to the Lord is obeying Him.  This is pleasing to Him and this is where we have fellowship with Him.

A Closer Look at Jesus' Love Language

A Closer Look at Jesus' Love Language

We all have a preferred love language, certain acts of love that we desire more than others. This is true in all of our relationshps not just our romantic relationships.

Love languages are how we communicate love to each other, they are:

    ·       Words of affirmation

    ·       Quality time

    ·       Physical touch

    ·       Acts of service

    ·       Receiving gifts

Jesus has a preferred love language, not listed above but is the foundation of all the others and they way that He first communicated His love to us.

    Sacrifice

    Romans 5:8

God demonstrated His love to us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

    Matthew 16:24-25

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humblya]">[a] with your God.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

    390. The Prisoner's Dilemma, Tit-for-Tat and Game Theory | Robert Sapolsky

    390. The Prisoner's Dilemma, Tit-for-Tat and Game Theory | Robert Sapolsky

Dr. Jordan B Peterson sits down with Neuroendocrinology researcher and author of the upcoming book Determined: A Science of Life Without Free Will, Robert Sapolsky. They discuss how Game Theory applies to human behavior across iterative rounds of play, the unexpected success of the tit-for-tat principle, the role of dopamine in the anticipation of the future, and the objective reality of transcendent structures within our biological routines.

Robert Sapolsky is an American Neuroendocrinology researcher, author, and communicator. He has spent decades studying primates in the wild, written numerous articles and books, as well as produced multiple video series on the subject. By the age of 12, Sapolsky was writing to well known primatologists as a fan, and had also begun teaching himself swahili with the early ambition of heading to Tanzanian, Mozambique, and Kenya in search of his own primates (Specifically Silverback Gorillas) to study. Not too much later, Sapolsky would make contact with a group of gorillas in Kenya, a group he would visit every year for 25 years, spending 4 months studying them at a time.  Sapolsky would go on to become the John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn Professor at Stanford University, holding joint appointments in several departments, including Biological Sciences, Neurology & Neurological Sciences, and Neurosurgery.

S7.4 | Is it Always God’s WIll That We Sacrifice?

S7.4 | Is it Always God’s WIll That We Sacrifice?

There are many scriptures about living a sacrificial life.  In fact, we are to present our bodies as living sacrifices to the Lord.  But is it always God’s will that we sacrifice?

Today Carla explores that question, diving into God’s heart for us, and our heart’s intention.

The Humble Heroics of Four of WWII's Most Decorated Soldiers

The Humble Heroics of Four of WWII's Most Decorated Soldiers

The Medal of Honor is the military's highest and most prestigious decoration and is awarded to a member of the United States Armed Forces who "distinguished himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty."

During World War II, no U.S. unit would produce more Medal of Honor recipients than the Army's Third Infantry Division, and my guest profiles four of those recipients — Maurice Britt, Michael Daly, Keith Ware, and the famous Audie Murphy — in his new book Against All Odds: A True Story of Ultimate Courage and Survival in World War II. Today on the show, Alex explains how the prodigiousness of the Third Infantry Division was due to effective leadership, and the sheer fact that they were in combat so long, serving from the very beginning of the war in Europe to its very end. We then get into the stories of Britt, Daly, Ware, and Murphy, unpacking their varied backgrounds, how they earned their Medals of Honor — and many more decorations besides — and what their lives were like after the war. We end our conversation with what Alex has personally taken away from the stories of these brave men.
