'BAROMETER OF THE SOUL' - Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar

'BAROMETER OF THE SOUL' - Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar
The message was delivered on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION Recently, I came across the term "Fundamental Neighborliness." It is said to be a barometer of the soul and an indicator of the attitude of one’s heart. Generosity is one of life’s greatest joys to be able to share what we have to help someone else to have an opportunity to grow or experience life’s possibilities. Even in those times when we feel lacking, being able to share something can bring us alive. Most of us struggle in some ways with generosity. Some are too generous, and some are not generous enough. How can we balance our generosity so that it is a central component of our life’s satisfaction and a true expression of our love? 34. Defining Tech

    34. Defining Tech
One of the most challenging things in the ‘food and beverage technology’ umbrella is the different terminology we use to define tech and the different segments within our industry.

How do you define SMB vs. Enterprise? Casual vs. Full Service? What are the functions, features and applications within back-office technologies? As you seek or sell technology, understanding these definitions is key to making choices.

Accelerate host Rob Grimes says emerging technology creates further complexity. “Operations Technology, Infrastructure, Food Technology, Equipment Technology, and Experiential Technology are 5 major areas to focus on when considering the future.”

If you want to hear Rob’s breakdown of some of these terms within the industry and find out what questions to ask when talking about technology, tune in to this episode of Accelerate.

'FREEDOM FIGHTS' - A message by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service)

'FREEDOM FIGHTS' - A message by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service)
The message was delivered on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION “Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them.” These words from Fredrick Douglass seem quite fitting for the current state of the American republic. We are a county that was founded on the principle of freedom and yet freedom, and its synonym liberty, have often been a source of conflict and confusion throughout the American experiment in democracy. Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday is celebrated on Monday, once wrote: “We all declare for liberty, but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing.” Lincoln and Fredrick Douglass were both fighting for the freedom of people to be able to benefit from their own labor. Their opponents were fighting for the freedom to benefit from someone else’s labor. Despite their diametrically opposing definitions and goals, each side claimed to be fighting for freedom. As a community of free-thinkers we can learn a lot from this history about the nature of our own freedom today. Join me as we continue to explore this month’s theme of Choosing Freedom and celebrate Black History Month in a way that uplifts and enlightens us all. 'WHERE DO WE COME FROM?' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Traditional Service)

'WHERE DO WE COME FROM?' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Traditional Service)
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION We are in the third decade of the 21st century. We’ve split the atom, discovered quarks and the most microscopic of things. We have telescopes that let us peer into the ageless past. Yet there are still people who think that everything there is to know about life and spirituality and truth is written down in the Bible. Not just any people think this, but people at the highest level of our government and military and judicial systems who get their values from reading the Bible literally. As we enter the 2020’s, I want to explore how we can celebrate the marvel of creation and how we can save and preserve it, but I also want to discuss how we can live with people who think they know the Truth and who want to impress there version of it upon the rest of us? There is an anti-scientific and anti-intellectual movement that threatens our way of life. We need to pay attention to who is going on our school boards and city counsel and courts. We need to have a fire in our belly about what’s happening in this world. I feel some fire burning inside and out as we enter this new decade and I hope you do too. We need new ways to interpret religion and community and to figure out how to live upon this earth. It is great to be a part of this church at this time in this place – with you. 'WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE CALLED OUT?' - A sermon by Rev. Gerald L. Davis (Traditional Service)

'WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE CALLED OUT?' - A sermon by Rev. Gerald L. Davis (Traditional Service)
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Gerald L. Davis, Affiliate Minister. DESCRIPTION The Greek word for church is ecclesia. This word translates to "called out." So we know we are called out to do justice work. 'THE REFRESHING SALT OF BROKEN TEARS' - A message by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service)

'THE REFRESHING SALT OF BROKEN TEARS' - A message by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service)
The message was delivered on Sunday, September 29, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION While pondering the skills needed to fulfill a vision, I became curious about what makes a vision fulfilling—as in, truly satisfying and full. How do we know a vision is a whole and nourishing one? Also, when can we reap the benefits of our grand visions while remaining honest? It isn't sustainable (for me) if rewards are only at the end. I need sustenance for the here and now! We will reflect on what traditions and personal experience reveal are our accessible means to nourishment through our (w)holy visions and the power we have to heal and grow towards a fulfilling communal vision.
