You don’t have to be religious to grow your soul and nurture your spirit. However, it certainly helps to have a supportive and wise community. In this message, with the help of a poet, and an Inuit, I will share an epic journey of the inner life and how we can nurture our soul and broaden our life in the year to come. 'HEAVEN FOR EVERYONE' - Rev. Randy Lewis
The message was delivered on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Randy Lewis, Assistant Minister. DESCRIPTION This exploration questions the traditional concepts of salvation and the afterlife, challenging us with the idea: What if heaven is not just for the select few but truly for everyone? Through the lens of Bishop Carlton Pearson's life and the Universalist perspective, we embark on a journey that crosses paths with various beliefs and theologies, from Christianity's promise of redemption for all to atheism's focus on ethical living without an afterlife. This sermon invites you to ponder the profound implications of universal salvation, the essence of divine justice versus mercy, and how these concepts influence our understanding of humanity's collective future. Are we all destined for the same outcome after death, regardless of our earthly deeds? Join us as we navigate these complex theological waters, leaving room for introspection, discussion, and, of course, more questions. 'RECLAIMING WISE WAYS' - A message by Rev. Barbara Prose (Humanist Service)

'RECLAIMING WISE WAYS' - A message by Rev. Barbara Prose (Humanist Service)
The message was delivered on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION There is a positive death movement happening. It involves talking openly about our bodies: how we age, get sick, and die. It includes practices like: death doulas, death dinners, death care guides and more. For so long, our culture has kept death hidden from us. Here at All Souls, we face death openly, as a way to honor our lives. We have a hospice choir and honor our dead in moving memorial services that celebrate life. I hope you’ll join me, SpiritSong, our Life Decisions Team and Nicole Ogundare, our Life Events Coordinator, as we explore who has the authority to make decisions about our lives – and our deaths. 'CHOOSING FREEDOM' - A message by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service)
The message was delivered on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION Janis Joplin famously sang: “Freedom is just another word for ‘nothing left to lose.” I would contest that we all have things to lose. How do our attachments keep us from being free? What is the right relationship to have between freedom and attachment? How and when must we choose freedom over everything else? Taking inspiration in part from the remarkable story of Harriet Tubman, the worship team and I have created a service that we hope will prompt us all to live more freely. 'BLACK POWER, WHITE BACKLASH' - A message by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service)
The message was delivered on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION THROWBACK SERMON SUNDAY
Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Throwback from Rev. Dr. John Wolf, 1966 In 1966, a young Dr. John B. Wolf spoke to All Souls in Tulsa about Black Power in no uncertain terms. A year earlier Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had spoken to the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly in a message titled “Don’t Sleep Through the Revolution.” These were some of the most divisive and crucial times of the Civil Rights movement that put non-violence to the test. It is hard to imagine any other white preacher in Tulsa saying what Dr. Wolf said that day. Come here his words and my commentary that make them even more relevant for our times today. Join us on MLK Sunday to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, in music and words.  SUBSCRIBE TO AUDIO PODCAST: SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: GIVE A DONATION TO HELP US SPREAD THIS LOVE BEYOND BELIEF: or text LOVEBB to 73256 LET'S CONNECT: Facebook: Twitter: All Souls Church Website:

'#DoDemocracy' - A sermon by Rev. Barbara Prose (Traditional Service)
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, January 12, 2020, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry. DESCRIPTION Did you know that nearly 91,000 people were removed from the voter rolls in Oklahoma this past April? Jason Nichols, an instructor of political science at Northeastern State University, and former mayor of Tahlequah recommends we all double check our registration with our county election board to be sure we will able to vote in upcoming elections. One of the fundamental principles of our faith is the democratic process and the foundation of all our freedoms is our right to vote. Our justice team and ACTION leaders are inviting you to join with other local organizations and with congregations nationwide in voter registration, protecting voting rights and Get-Out-the-Vote drives. There are over 50 million people in the U.S.A. who are eligible to vote but who are not registered, and millions of registered voters who are infrequent voters.  This Sunday, on the same Sunday as the UUA launches their #VOTELOVE campaign, we will launch our own campaign here at All Souls, #VOTELOVEBEYONDBELIEF. I need to know I have done all I can do to make our democracy strong. Let’s learn how to do democracy together.  You’re invited! #DODEMOCRACY   #VOTELOVEBEYONDBELIEF  SUBSCRIBE TO AUDIO PODCAST: WATCH THIS SERMON ON YOUTUBE: SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: GIVE A DONATION TO HELP US SPREAD THIS LOVE BEYOND BELIEF: or text LOVEBB to 73256 LET'S CONNECT: Facebook: Twitter: All Souls Church Website:

'PREGNANT WITH SPIRIT' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Contemporary Service)

'PREGNANT WITH SPIRIT' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Contemporary Service)
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, December 22, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION Last year on the Sunday before Christmas, the hilarious and talented Dionne Lambert joined me on the chancel for a short skit of God talking to his angel Gabrielle (Gabriela in this case) about whether or not to go down to Earth as a human being in the incarnation of Jesus. We will reprise this provocative and heartwarming dramatization of the tensions, struggles, doubts and hopes of a "God in heaven" making the tremendous decision to become human and walk the Earth. It is truly a story about our own lives as much as it is a way of understanding a God of incarnation. If you’ve never seen this skit, you will love it! If you saw it last year, we have a few new surprises in store. The message following the skit will offer hope, joy and spirit for the holidays. Come experience the spirit and carry it home. 'A LOVE AFFAIR WITH LIFE' - A message by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service)

'A LOVE AFFAIR WITH LIFE' - A message by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service)
The message was delivered on Sunday, December 15, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION Humanist author Michael Werner writes: “For all the talk about reason and science, Humanism is really about a passionate love affair. It is a love affair with life, not a mythical hereafter. Humanism is a love affair with a progressive vision of civilization in which each of us can add to our growing library of wisdom, our evolving knowledge of what there is and what is truly important. None of the great achievements in history would have been possible without a love of the adventure of learning and the adventure of creating a better life. Our great cultural achievements in science, art, music, literature, philosophy, history, psychology, and political thought all inform each other and have been born of that long Humanist tradition.” How are you passionately in love with life? Does your love affair with this world need rekindling? *Music: Rick Fortner SUBSCRIBE TO AUDIO PODCAST: SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: GIVE A DONATION TO HELP US SPREAD THIS LOVE BEYOND BELIEF: or text LOVEBB to 73256 LET'S CONNECT: Facebook: Twitter: All Souls Church Website:

'KEEP HOPE ALIVE' - A message by Carlton D. Pearson (Humanist Service)

'KEEP HOPE ALIVE' - A message by Carlton D. Pearson (Humanist Service)
The message was delivered on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION How should we try to relate to what feels totally “other?” Can black or ethnic “under-privilege” relate to white privilege, and vice versa? Does the Trading Places idea work in such a setting? How about humanist mindsets with super-human mindsets? Something is futile when it becomes incapable of producing any useful result—it’s pointless. We mustn’t allow any situation to reduce our hopes to such a state. In the words of Jessie Jackson, we must “keep hope alive.’” Thomas Edison said, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” Here at All Souls, we aim to make it work best for all of us. 'FRIEND TO FOE AND BACK AGAIN' - A sermon by Yadenee Hailu
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Yadenee Hailu, Assistant Minister. DESCRIPTION This summer I had the honor of co-chairing the Right Relationship Team at General Assembly in Spokane and visiting my family in Ethiopia. My role changed drastically in these two locations, but I found a unique trend that wove the contrasting trips together. I could speak in great lengths about my love of the UU church or my roots in Ethiopia. However that would be much less helpful than the real, vulnerable, gritty, messy, tiring work of honestly engaging one's communities' shadow sides and all. What posture can aid us in maneuvering the inevitable embarrassment of not the 'other' but how our own community acts? Let's unpack our responsibility in holistic engagement with our friends turned foe. *Music: Booker Gillespie (vocals) & Myron Oliver (saxophone) with David B. 'I SEE YOU' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION As a boy I used to wish I had the power to become invisible. Some people in our society feel invisible and when they are seen, other people often wish they were not. Walking in another’s shoes is not really possible in every situation. I decided to spend a night in a homeless shelter and some time on the streets with people who do not have homes in our community. I certainly cannot say I experienced what it is like to be homeless. Yet, I’ll share what I did experience and what it taught me about life, belonging, community and home.
