Paul Assaiante: Learning to Face Your Fears

Paul Assaiante: Learning to Face Your Fears

When Paul Assaiante announced his retirement from coaching the men's squash team at Trinity College in Connecticut earlier this year, it marked the end of the most successful run for any coach in the history of college athletics.

During his tenure, Assaiante guided Trinity to 17 national titles, including 13 consecutive championships and 252 wins in a row from 1999 to 2011.

On this episode of The Knowledge Project, Assaiante draws on his 30 years of coaching to discuss the lessons he learned during his career. These lessons include how to conquer fear and anxiety, why safety is actually found when facing adversity, the importance of practice, and what's keeping you from reaching your goals.

Assaiante is also the author of the 2012 book, Run to the Roar: Coaching to Overcome Fear. Listen and learn.

The Courage To Do Scary Things

The Courage To Do Scary Things
This week on the podcast I'm sharing a bit from within around trusting yourself to do scary things! Fear is not always an indicator of whether or not we should do something. In fact, for me, I regularly feel fearful to do some of the BEST things for me like going on an airplane, starting the podcast, making a change in life!

I've been reflecting on this because as you're about to find out- lots of big changes are manifesting and unfolding in my life experience and I'm trying to hold space for it all- even the fear of the unknown; all while moving forward with a courageous heart.

I hope this podcast resonates with you this week and that you remember to find your own way of moving with courage in life.

Developing a Wise Friendly Mind When It Matters Most - Episode 79

Developing a Wise Friendly Mind When It Matters Most - Episode 79

Robert shares his journey, with Dave by his side, as he learned to coexist with the deep discomfort, pain, and imbalance of his kidney transplant medication. Feeling good was inaccessible for 10 years. Through this path, he developed a deepening of his practice inquiry by asking questions of what was truly possible given his state of exhaustion from sleep deprivation, which was due to an unusual reaction to the transplant medication. Following the inquiry, he received guidance that led him to focus on what was truly possible.

You are encouraged as always to see your own challenges in Robert's story and begin to cultivate your own inquiry and wisdom. This can lead to best thoughts, actions, and more time spent caring for yourself with the intention to move toward well-being and keeping your mind as an ally even in the most challenging of times.

Our best selves include not only compassion, love, trust, strength, wealth, and success, but also acceptance of fear, anxiety, anger, impatience, and intolerance. Being aware of that and at the same time not letting it control us is really our best self. A best self that is one-dimensional is not reliable. Continue to cultivate these awareness tools with Robert and The Introspective Guides, which can be found at awarenessthatheals.org.

ASRM Today: Inside the ASRM Practice Committee with Dr. Alan Penzias

In this podcast episode, we shine a spotlight on the ASRM Practice Committee and its role in reproductive health care. We are joined by Dr. Alan Penzias, the Chair of the ASRM Practice Committee and a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist at Boston IVF and an associate professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Penzias is passionate about the Practice Committee and is here to tell us all about its work. The Practice Committee is made up of representatives from all the ASRM's affiliate societies, including reproductive surgeons, endocrinologists, infertility specialists, and more. The committee is responsible for generating evidence-based documents that guide reproductive health care practice. Dr. Penzias explains how the committee works to determine which topics are important and timely, the scope of each document, and how members of the committee work together to develop these documents.

Did you know that ASRM has different kinds of documents, each with it’s own purpose and methodology? Click here to find out more
