David Pruitt is a first-generation college graduate from UNC-Greensboro and previously served on the advisory board for their Bryan School of Business. A licensed CPA and a member of the AICPA and NCACPA, David started his business career in an entry-level accounting position before advancing to first CFO, then CEO, of Performance Bike, for a time the largest cycling retailer in the United States. As a senior leader in the U.S. bicycle industry, he served on the board of “People for Bikes,” a national organization with 1.3 million members that work to make riding a bicycle in America safer, easier to access, and more fun. He is an avid reader, a happily married husband for over thirty years, and a proud father of two successful children. He currently resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
David retired from corporate America in 2016 and began writing Relative Distance. His early life as an abused child taught him how to overcome obstacles and his successful career as a senior executive taught him how to lead and communicate effectively as a writer and speaker. He has a passion and ability to not only tell his story but to help adults, young and old, who were abused as children to live the lives they want, not the ones forced on them.
That’s what his book Relative Distance is all about: survival, overcoming obstacles, and finding the strength within yourself to get where you want to be.
Just two light skinned black men living out their dreams
When I often refer to my "gun carrying days" i'm referring to when I carried a weapon for a living, wayyy before the life I live now behind the microphone. In that line of work you need people who can keep you inspired and maybe make you laugh here and there. This week my boy Thomas aka Teezus graced me with his presence! Thomas is a brother in Christ but also a former fellow officer from those "gun carrying days" who's now living out his dream on stage as a comedian! He was one of the first people I asked to be a guest on the show when this podcast was still on the drawing board. He shares his journey from serving in law enforcement, to being a mortician (yea you read that right) and pursuing his passion for comedy and sharing God's word with the world. We'll also delve into his unique style of comedy, which draws on his experiences and his love for God, to provide a refreshing and uplifting perspective on life's ups and downs. With a combination of witty one-liners and thought-provoking insights, Thomas is sure to leave you feeling inspired and uplifted.
With laughter, faith, and hilarious stories, this episode is not to be missed!
In post-war Italy, torn by poverty and lack of opportunities, many Italians left their shelters and emigrated to Latin America, the USA or Australia. Salvatore Forcina was one of them. Leaving his small town in Lazio, he and his family moved to Argentina where he eventually trained to become a medical doctor. Overcoming one obstacle after the other, Salvatore then moved to the USA, learned English from scratch and sat many more exams to specialise in his profession, becoming the chief of surgery at two major hospitals. In his words, sheer grit, determination and inspirational wise advice from his Dad were like a drop of water that, dripping gently on a rock for years, eventually created a cavity in it.
'Life is tough where you have nothing, but you need to move out of your comfort zone tor each the top of that mountain,' he said. Listen to his interview to learn how you too, can overcome the belief that all doors are closed and there is no hope.
And of course find out more by reading his forthcoming memoir in May. You can see more details on Facebook and Instagram.

If no one said they love you, Remy loves you!
Probably one of my favorite phrases from a long time homie of mine, Remy! I'm honored Remy took the time out of his busy schedule last minute to honor me with his presence this week. I've known this guy since the early days of undergrad and we've stayed connected throughout the years.
He was one of the last people I physically seen before we all went into lock down in 2020, and ironically we have similar stories of triumph, overcoming adversity and beating the odds during that period. He talks about his struggle trying to find his passion after lost it for a bit and how he overcame the plague of depression to be able to travel the world and loving the life he now lives. Be inspired!
When Messiah cursed the fig tree, it withered. Why? What is the message contained in this miracle? How does the fig tree relate to moving a mountain into the sea with our faith?
