UFYB 329: Greatest Hits: Loving vs. Being Loved and Which Feels Better

You might already know this, but feeling loved doesn’t hinge on someone else loving you. Even if you grasp that external love can’t dictate your feelings, or recognize how societal conditioning shapes women’s views on love and dating, there may be hidden thoughts blocking you from accessing the emotions you crave. Tune in this week as I explore the distinction between loving and being loved, and which feels better. I’m sharing the fundamental socialization that has us assessing our relationships in unhelpful ways, and what happens when you switch your focus from being loved to loving.

Naomi explains why women are constantly pitted against each other and how we're taught to blame each other instead of the messed-up system as a whole. UFYB 257: Social Conditioning, Religion, Men & Patriarchy: A Conversation with Danny and Lindsay Poelman

This week on the podcast I’m joined by one of my Advanced Certification in Feminist Coaching students, Lindsay Poelman, and her husband, Danny, as we discuss what it’s like for men to recognize their own patriarchal socialization.

Tune in as we talk about how patriarchal conditioning is not a zero sum game, how patriarchy can be oppressive to people of all gender identities (not just women), and why the feeling of disempowerment in privileged white men can actually lead to positive change.

UFYB 240: Burnout, Productivity, Parenthood & Patriarchy: A Conversation with Ali Ryan and Marissa McKool

UFYB 240: Burnout, Productivity, Parenthood & Patriarchy: A Conversation with Ali Ryan and Marissa McKool

People socialized as women are particularly susceptible to suffering from the burnout our entire country seems to be dealing with. That’s because they’re taught from an extremely young age that they have to take care of everyone else before they take care of themselves.

This week I’m joined by two of my Advanced Certification in Feminist Coaching students, Ali Ryan and Marissa McKool, as we look closely at how we define burnout and uncover the roles patriarchy and productivity play in it.

Tune in to learn how you can begin to heal your burnout by figuring out what your unconscious commitments are and by identifying thought patterns about your to-do list at home, and how changing your thoughts around rest (while it may feel terrible at first) can help you prevent future burnout.

Whatever your personal belief system and religious background, if you are a human in the world, then it’s likely that you have been impacted by patriarchal religious ideologies.

Amy calls herself the Ex-Mormon Coach and she helps people who are on the other side of Mormonism reconcile their new identity. Tune in to gain insight into Amy’s journey of questioning and eventually choosing to leave the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

UFYB 205: Not Identifying As a Feminist: A Conversation with Advanced Certification in Feminist Coaching Graduates Amy Logan, Brig Johnson, Linda Street, and Maggie Reyes

UFYB 205: Not Identifying As a Feminist: A Conversation with Advanced Certification in Feminist Coaching Graduates Amy Logan, Brig Johnson, Linda Street, and Maggie Reyes

Are you hesitant to identify as a feminist? Conversely, do you struggle to understand why any woman WOULDN’T want to identify as a feminist? Cultural messaging around what feminism means is so pervasive that even proud feminists often have to shed cultural narratives that feminists are angry, humorless man-haters. When you look at the history of feminism through an intersectional lens, it becomes even clearer why some women - especially BIPOC women - may not identify with the movement.

In this episode, I am joined by four of my Advanced Certification in Feminist Coaching (ACFC) graduates to discuss their discomfort with the label prior to joining the certification, and how ACFC changed their relationship to feminism. Whether you strongly identify as a feminist, or you’re unsure about whether you want to be one and what that even means, this episode will help you understand your own blind spots around why other people may not relate to this movement as you do.
