Some believe fluoride should be removed entirely, while others argue that there is not enough fluoride in the water. Lawsuits are being filed in both directions, further highlighting the divided perspectives. Fluoride's impact on thyroid and brain function is a concern at high concentrations. Ultimately, the amount of fluoride present determines its potential harm or benefit.

    • The Benefits and Controversies of Fluoride in Dental HealthFluoride strengthens teeth by forming stronger bonds in mineralization chains, reducing tooth decay. While not essential, it is a low-cost approach chosen by governments to promote dental health, alongside natural remineralization methods.

      The presence of fluoride in our drinking water and toothpaste is to create super strong teeth by strengthening the bonds in the mineralization chains of our teeth. Fluoride can get inside these chains and form stronger bonds than the normal hydroxyapatite bonds. This limits the ability of bacteria, such as streptococcus mutans, to erode the enamel and cause cavities. While fluoride is not essential for dental health and there are other natural ways to enhance remineralization and fill in cavities, the addition of fluoride in water was a low-cost approach chosen by governments to reduce tooth decay and cavities in children and adults. Dentists agree that fluoride does create stronger teeth, although some acknowledge the importance of natural remineralization methods.

However, simply meeting the recommended safe level set by the Center for Disease Control does not guarantee safety, as individual consumption levels vary based on body weight and overall water intake. It is crucial to consider your own concerns and research before making a decision about fluoride in your drinking water.
