November 2012. Omaha, Nebraska. Dave Kroupa was casually dating two different women; Cari Farver and Liz Golyar. But just weeks after he began dating Cari, she seemed to disappear on November 13, 2012. Dave then started to receive hateful and threatening messages for 3 years from Cari. As the stalking, threats, and damages mounted, police got involved and the motive behind the crimes became clear.

Two days later her kidnapper released her in Huntington Beach, California near her father's residence. Local police doubted her story and called the kidnapping a hoax. Denise’s case has been called a real life “Gone Girl” kidnapping.

Boston police officer John O’Keefe was found dead in a fellow officer’s front yard after his girlfriend Karen Read dropped him off in the early morning hours. Karen Read is accused of hitting John with her vehicle and leaving him to die during a snowstorm, but her attorneys have alleged that others were involved in John’s death.

May 27, 2011. Hayward, CA. 26-year-old Michelle Le went to her car to retrieve something during a break in her nursing class. She never returned and was reported missing that night. Blood was found near where her car had been parked and in her car when it was located three blocks away. An extensive search, spearheaded by Michelle’s family, combed the surrounding canyons hoping to find her alive. However, the police investigation indicated Michelle had been murdered and led to a suspect with a sinister motive.

On October 27, 2016 in Henry County Georgia, four people were killed during a bonfire party. Two men were indicted and charged with murder. One confessed to the murders and told officers that he was solely responsible. Authorities charged the other man with murder anyway and placed him in jail. In 2021, this man was re-indicted on 30 charges, and the state is seeking the death penalty. He still awaits trial 7 years after the killings.

January 2013, Yuba City, CA. In a small town north of Sacramento, CA, 94-year old Leola Shreves was found dead in her home by her son-in-law. Windows were broken and Leola had been badly beaten. After only a few months, police arrested and obtained a confession from Leola’s neighbor, Michael Alexander. Ultimately the charges against Alexander were dropped after DNA evidence vindicated him from the false confession. Six years after Leola’s death, familial DNA tracing led to the arrest and conviction of Armando Cuadras.
