The Mythic Imagination of Amy Filbin

The Mythic Imagination of Amy Filbin

We're thrilled to introduce you to this week's guest, Amy Filbin — a multidisciplinary practitioner who artfully and skillfully synthesizes her academic, psychological and spiritual knowledge to help clients across the world. In this episode, Amy traverses tarot, astrology, hypnotherapy and beyond to illuminate the obstacles that keep people stuck in life.

Amy's story is profound. She not only enlightens us about the archetypal "Fool's Journey" in tarot, but she opens up about her own Fool's Journey — her life story — which is both singular and universal all at once. Her story is her own, yet you can't help but find yourself within it. In true Gemini fashion, Amy has moved through many of life's contradictions and dichotomies to become personally and professionally resilient. From addiction to recovery, from love to loss, from Greece to Alaska...her trials and triumphs are a testament to the transformative potential of embracing the path of self-discovery.

You'll hit play to behold her mythic imagination. But it's her breathtaking humanness that will resonate long after the episode concludes.

Understanding your Protectors and Parts in Soul Recovery

Understanding your Protectors and Parts in Soul Recovery

I recall a moment that shifted my understanding of the soul's complex tapestry. It was during a session of Gestalt therapy with my husband Rich that we discovered the emotional parts that danced between us—his internal 'judge' and my 'scared little girl.' I invite you to turn within, exploring these internal landscapes and the 'protectors' that shape our responses to life's multifaceted challenges. This episode  stitches together personal stories and the Soul Recovery take on the Internal Family Systems model, promising to guide you towards the light of your authentic self.

Episode 292 - Aundi Kolber, "Embracing Strength and Vulnerability"

Welcome to another episode of Restoring the Soul with Michael John Cusick. Today, we dive into the depths of emotional and psychological healing with Aundi Kolber as we explore the intricate interplay between somatic experiences, Internal Family Systems, and the transformative power of embracing our emotions with grace and strength.

In this episode, we delve into Aundi's remarkable insights on somatic awareness, the body's intuitive sense of safety, and navigating challenging emotions with curiosity rather than criticism. Aundi shares how her bestselling book, "Try Softer," has influenced the lives of many and how her journey continues in her latest work, "Strong Like Water," an exploration of strength as a dynamic and adaptable force, much like the nature of water itself.

Join us as Aundi takes us through a compelling conversation about validating emotions, employing grounding techniques, and understanding trauma's impact on our perception of safety. Together, Michael and Aundi discuss how podcasts like ours serve as a beacon of connection and healing, how faith intertwines with psychological well-being, and the importance of integrating our whole selves for a compelling journey toward healing.

Allow Your Inner Wisdom to Emerge (+ Guided Meditation)

Allow Your Inner Wisdom to Emerge (+ Guided Meditation)

In this episode I share lingering thoughts on opening to our fullness that came up after the last episode, then I dive into my first invitation into feeling my fullness 5 years ago and what that looked like.  I reflect on the power of being guided into connection with our intellect, physical bodies, emotional selves, and spiritual selves, and how it can help you begin to understand and feel into your wholeness more. I also speak on the power of learning to listen deeply to our many dimensions, and how it frees up space to allow your intuition and greater wisdom and energy to emerge and guide you.

The guided 4 Part Meditation for Wholeness begins at 15:30 (FYI it purposely does not have music so that you can simply listen to yourself and anything happening for you more acutely).

    Season 7 Episode 1: PolyWise

    Season 7 Episode 1: PolyWise
Laura speaks with Jessica Fern and David Cooley about their new book, PolyWise, paradigm shifts for folks making changes in non monogamous relationships, and restorative rather than punitive views of conflict. They discuss why the authors included so many different psychological modalities and approaches in their book, the value of different tools for folks encountering big transitions in relationships, and more. "It's about intentionality - being willing to lead with your feelings, hearing when your partner does as well, and keeping in mind that healing and relating are verbs." "Paradigms were an important focus for us because we're all so steeped in them - and getting to a place where we identify our values and shift them intentionally is really powerful." 255: What's Worse Than Heartbreak with Tonya Lester

Psychotherapist, Truth Teller, and advocate for being a "difficult" woman, Tonya Lester joins Chelsea 9:10 minutes in to talk about the upside of being difficult (the good kind of difficult, that is), what's worse than heartbreak (spoiler: it doesn't involve a relationship ending), the masks we wear and the self we forfeit in order to attract and keep partners, freeing ourselves from the spiral of "if-only" I had been/done/or behaved like XYZ, the healing powers of curiosity, self-compassion, and vowing to use our past to change our future, internal family systems methodology, the motive of the mean voice, how shock absorbers in relationships always finish last, the power of self-possession,  "kind narcissism," and why presenting ourselves as fully — vulnerably and accurately — as soon as possible is the best way to set ourselves up for a love that aligns with our true nature and intentions.

    The Marvel Traumatic Universe

    The Marvel Traumatic Universe

The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t powered by vibranium, sorcery or infinity stones...it's powered by trauma and grief. With the help of research professor, Dr. MC McDonald and the incomparably urbane satirist, George Hahn, we break down how the MCU has pulled off a superhuman feat in depicting the impact of these very human experiences.

In honor of the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Paul, MC and George take an informed heartfelt look at Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision and the latest MCU installment of the Black Panther saga. While laughing a lot and crying a little, they identify where the Avengers are in their own healing process and why these characters mean so much to us and give us one more way to heal.

MaryCatherine (MC) McDonald, PhD, is a research professor and life coach who specializes in the psychology of stress, and resilience. She has been researching, lecturing, and publishing on stress-based neuroscience, psychology, and lived experience since 2011. She is passionate about destigmatizing mental health issues in general, as well as reframing our understanding of mental health in order to better understand and treat it.

Given the spot-on designation of “Urban Raconteur” by the New York Times, George Hahn is a multi-talented satirist, sartorialist and non-conformist mid-century modernist who is a force of nature on all media including his eponymous online magazine and podcast. He can also be found almost daily, live-streaming his hilariously charming and intimate morning walks through Central Park with his dogs.
