The spiritual leaders, or gods, were believed to be instrumental in maintaining the health of people and their crops, providing guidance in physical warfare, and seeking revenge. Men would undergo initiation rituals, including circumcision, to become part of their father's clan and rid themselves of their mother's clan's influence. The elders of the clan were responsible for setting up ceremonies and seeking the gods' blessings for various endeavors. The gods were also believed to be vengeful and would provide "bad juice" to help their followers take revenge or steal territory from enemy clans. Even though the physical manifestations of these spiritual practices have disappeared, the worldview that revolves around the spirit world remains deeply ingrained in the culture and continues to shape their perspective on life.
