    • The Pros and Cons of Having Co-CEOs: Exploring the Benefits and Challenges of This Leadership ModelCo-CEOs can be beneficial for decision-making and company performance, but successful implementation requires effective collaboration, skill complementation, and shared vision.

Having co-CEOs in a company can be beneficial, but it also depends on the individuals involved and the circumstances. The idea of having two leaders sharing the responsibilities and strengths can result in better decision-making and overall company performance. However, it is important to carefully consider the dynamics and communication between the co-CEOs to avoid conflicts and confusion. While some successful cases exist, there are also instances where this model has failed. Ultimately, the success of co-CEOs hinges on their ability to effectively collaborate, complement each other's skills, and align their vision for the company. As businesses evolve and adapt, the concept of co-CEOs may continue to be explored to maximize leadership effectiveness in a dynamic and competitive environment.

    • The Benefits of Co-C.E.O.s in Large Public CompaniesHaving co-C.E.O.s in large public companies could lead to nearly 40 percent higher shareholder returns, suggesting that exploring this leadership structure may be advantageous for larger corporations.

Having co-C.E.O.s in large public companies could lead to significantly higher shareholder returns. Research conducted by C.E.O. advisor Marc Feigen and his team found that C.E.O. pairs delivered annual shareholder returns that were nearly 40 percent higher compared to solo C.E.O.s. While there may be other factors at play, Feigen's study suggests that having two leaders at the helm could be a feasible and advantageous option for companies. Private companies often have co-C.E.O.s, but it remains rare in the public markets. Feigen's findings highlight the potential benefits of exploring this leadership structure in larger corporations. However, it is important to note that this study is not as robust as an academic research paper and does not account for other variables that could influence performance.

    • Revisiting the Success of Co-C.E.O.s in Ancient RomeCo-C.E.O. arrangements offer an alternative to the traditional top-down leadership style, providing small businesses with the benefits of collaboration and decision-making partnerships.

The concept of co-C.E.O.s in large organizations is not a new idea. It dates back thousands of years to Ancient Rome, where the co-consul model was used successfully. This historical example challenges the notion that pairs in leadership positions are inherently doomed to fail. However, the preference for single leaders in modern times can be attributed to the rise of militaristic and command-and-control structures in countries and companies. While co-C.E.O. arrangements may not be suitable for every organization, it presents an alternative to the traditional top-down leadership style. Many private firms, especially small businesses, have embraced the idea of collaboration at the top, recognizing the value of having a coaching partner and collaborator in decision-making.

    • The benefits of having a partner for CEOsSharing power and decision-making with a partner can prevent CEOs from becoming overly confident, ensuring that risks are carefully considered and aligned with multiple perspectives. Trust and open communication are crucial in a Co-CEO dynamic.

Having a partner can serve as a reality check and prevent CEOs from becoming excessively aggressive or invested in their own ideas. When CEOs become too wrapped up in their identity and certain they are always right, it can lead to failure. By sharing power and decision-making with a partner, CEOs may take less risk but ensure that the risks they do take are thoroughly thought through and aligned with both perspectives. While many CEOs have allies to help them think through big moves, unless they are officially in a power-sharing role, true sharing of power does not occur. Co-CEOs can face challenges and potential disasters, but the key is to maintain trust, avoid developing camps, and prevent the spread of rumors about each other.

    • The Importance of Strong Partnerships in Company SuccessEffective partnerships in business require constant communication, sharing of responsibilities, adaptability, and trust. Collaboration, mutual support, and a sense of humor are crucial in navigating the challenges of running a company together.

The success of a company heavily relies on the strength of its partnerships and the ability to work together effectively. The case of BlackBerry and its co-CEOs, Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, highlights the importance of a strong partnership in achieving success. Both Lazaridis and Balsillie had distinctive skills that complemented each other, leading to the rapid growth of the company. Their partnership was characterized by constant communication, sharing of responsibilities, and even sharing of personal spaces. However, as the company faced challenges, their partnership started to crumble. This emphasizes the need for adaptability and flexibility in partnerships, as well as the importance of open communication and trust. Collaboration, mutual support, and a sense of humor are vital in navigating the highs and lows of running a business together.

    • The downfall of Blackberry: A case of strategic misalignment and disruptive competition. The inability to adapt to technological shifts and ineffective leadership decisions can result in a significant decline in sales and market share.

The rapid advancements in technology can easily shift the competitive landscape and disrupt even the most dominant players. Blackberry faced two significant shifts: the introduction of high-end iPhones with a rich e-commerce ecosystem by Apple and the subsidized business model with cheaper handsets by Google. This drove down prices and rendered Blackberry's phone business less competitive. Co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis had a strategic difference on whether to focus on hardware or services. The board sided with Lazaridis, leading to Balsillie's departure. The absence of co-CEOs and a failure to allow them to work out the challenges contributed to Blackberry's decline, with sales dropping from $20 billion to $2 billion within five years.

    • The Benefits of Having Co-CEOs in a CompanyCo-CEOs offer increased availability and presence, retain key executives, and emphasize the importance of strong relationships and collaboration in both personal and professional partnerships.

Having co-CEOs in a company can offer several benefits. Firstly, co-CEOs allow for increased availability and presence, as they can be in two places at once, which is crucial for business growth and managing partnerships. Having two leaders who can represent the company and provide the necessary respect to various stakeholders is highly valuable. Additionally, co-CEOs can ensure the retention of key executives who desire a direct relationship with the CEO. This makes the entire executive suite feel more supported and connected to the leadership. Looking at the success of co-CEOs, we can draw parallels to the institution of marriage, emphasizing the importance of strong relationships and effective collaboration in both personal and professional partnerships.

    • Nurturing mutually beneficial relationships for successful shared leadership.Building strong relationships based on friendship, willingness, and effective communication is crucial for co-CEOs to achieve success as a team.

Good relationships, whether they be in business or personal life, thrive when each party feels like they have received the better end of the deal. This kind of mutually beneficial dynamic creates a synergy where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The key is to be aware of and nurture this relationship, investing time and effort into its growth. While disagreements are inevitable, they can be resolved in a healthy manner as long as both parties are willing participants in the power-sharing. This is particularly true for co-C.E.O.s, who need to establish a foundation built on friendship, willingness, and effective communication to make their shared leadership successful. Ultimately, success as a team is not about money or bitter feelings but about creating something meaningful and impactful together.

    • The Benefits of Embracing the Co-C.E.O. Model in a Growing CompanyEmbracing the co-C.E.O. model allows for flexibility, support, and unique decision-making perspectives, contributing to the success of a company.

Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar, co-founders and co-C.E.O.s of Atlassian, have successfully embraced the co-C.E.O. model with great benefits. They started Atlassian together, taking on every job themselves and doing whatever needed to be done. As the company grew, they naturally became co-C.E.O.s, with Mike handling product, engineering, and design, and Scott leading the go-to-market function. This model has allowed them to take breaks, change responsibilities, and get refreshed without compromising the business. It also provides a support system where they rely on each other's judgment. They believe that being co-C.E.O.s is a superpower that has contributed to the success of their company, as they make up for each other's weaknesses and bring a unique perspective to decision-making.

    • Co-CEOs: Success and ChallengesCo-CEOs can be successful if they have compatible skills, effective communication, shared values, and the ability to work together during challenging times, but strategic differences and ambiguity can lead to failure.

Having co-CEOs can be a successful structure for some businesses, but it's not for everyone. The key to a successful co-CEO relationship is compatibility and complementary skills. Scott Farquhar and Mike Cannon-Brookes of Atlassian exemplify this, showcasing effective communication, shared values, and the ability to work together during challenging times. However, not all co-CEO arrangements work out, as seen with BlackBerry and Allbirds. The downfall often stems from strategic differences and ambiguity around decision-making and control. While having two leaders can provide diverse perspectives and support during difficult periods, it requires the right individuals and a strong working dynamic. Ultimately, the effectiveness of a co-CEO model depends on the specific circumstances and individuals involved.

    • The Importance of Finding a Supportive Community for CEOsCEOs need a community where they can have open and candid conversations, receive feedback, and stay up-to-date, in order to prevent negative consequences for their company.

Highly accomplished individuals in top positions often struggle with loneliness and a lack of confidants. They are surrounded by individuals who may have their own agendas or lack the necessary understanding to provide meaningful support. Therefore, it is crucial for these CEOs to find a community where they can have off-the-record conversations and receive candid feedback. Co-CEO arrangements, although they may seem appealing, can lead to role confusion and hinder decision-making. The key is to create a learning format that caters to their wide range of interests and ensures they stay up-to-date, preventing misinformation from cascading down the organization. Ultimately, supporting CEOs in maintaining their freshness is vital to prevent disastrous consequences for the entire company.

    • The Effectiveness of Shared Leadership in BusinessShared leadership may not be as effective in the business world as it is in other domains, as having a unitary CEO can lead to clearer and more effective decision-making.

Shared leadership, or co-leadership, is often not as effective as it seems in business. While it may work well in domains like academic research or music, where collaboration is valued, it doesn't necessarily translate to successful leadership in the business world. Examples from companies like Netflix and Salesforce show that while they may have co-CEOs in name, one person is often the true decision-maker and the other is kept on for retention purposes. On the other hand, businesses like Nordstrom and Microsoft have experienced negative outcomes with shared leadership. It seems that having a unitary CEO, like Satya Nadella at Microsoft, can lead to more clear and effective leadership, rather than having a co-leadership structure.

    • The Importance of Bold Decision-Makers and Collaboration in SuccessBalancing boldness and collaboration is crucial for success in any field, as it allows for calculated risks, enhanced problem-solving, and a visionary leader who seeks input and support from others.

Having a bold and courageous decision-maker is crucial in any endeavor, whether it's leading a company or creating software programs. This boldness allows individuals to take calculated risks and make decisions without constant hesitation or deference to others. While some may argue that having two people do a job meant for one seems more expensive, there are instances where collaboration and constant communication, like pair programming, can yield better results and enhance problem-solving. It's important to recognize the value of a visionary leader who can take command while also seeking input and support from a board or team. Ultimately, a balance between boldness and collaboration can lead to successful outcomes in various fields.

    • The Power of Collaboration: Unlocking Potential and Achieving SuccessCollaboration leads to better outcomes, improved work quality, increased satisfaction, and enhanced performance, making it a crucial factor for success in various fields.

Collaboration can lead to better outcomes. A simple experiment conducted in a computer science course showed that pairs of programmers were able to produce programs with fewer mistakes, despite taking longer to complete them compared to solo programmers. This finding has real implications for the industry, as a survey of software developers found that nearly 30 percent now use pair programming. Collaboration not only improves the quality of work but also increases satisfaction among individuals. Similarly, research on co-C.E.O.s suggests that working together can enhance companies' performance and overcome obstacles. By embracing collaboration and understanding the benefits it brings, organizations can unlock their full potential and achieve higher levels of success.

    • The viability of co-CEOs in large companies vs. small companies and the importance of a strong working relationship for success.Co-CEO partnerships can be successful in smaller companies if given time to establish a strong working relationship, but caution is advised in larger companies due to potential risks and uncertainties.

While the dominance of single CEOs may continue in the next 10 to 20 years, the idea of co-CEOs is not likely to fully take root in larger companies. This is because boards of these large companies are cautious about the potential risks and uncertainties that come with two people sharing the CEO role. However, in smaller companies, the trend of having co-CEOs is more prevalent and successful. The key to making co-CEO partnerships work is giving them time to establish a strong working relationship before officially taking on the role. This was exemplified by K.K.R., where the co-presidents' partnership resulted in significant growth and success. Ultimately, experience and compatibility between co-CEOs can be beneficial, but the transition should not be abrupt.

I don't know who you were rooting for in the Super Bowl. But both teams didn't want to give up on their dreams of becoming Super Bowl Champions until the Cincinnati Bengals did not make a first down on 4th and 1 with 39 seconds left on the clock.

Not one of them saw themselves in that moment. It was always about finishing until the trophy was in their hands. Both teams had prepared all season with one game in mind.

That's the picture each team painted every day and their actions followed suit.

The K.I.S.S. ~ S.E.T. your mind to what you want!

A lot of what we want comes not just from the heart, but from connecting the head with the heart. It takes two to tango; your heart and your head.

So you have to S.E.T. your mind to what you want.

    1. SATISFY with a vision in mind. This is where you set the tempo; what you are going after and what it will look like when you get there. It's the overall effect of your dream!

CHALLENGE: What can you do to S.E.T. your mind to what you want?

    • Do you need to set daily expectations?
    • Do you need to be held accountable to someone?

One last story I want to leave you with. Elana Meyers Taylor, a member of the USA Bobsled Olympic Team tested positive for Covid when she arrived in China. So she was required to quarantine.

However, during that time, she still needed to train. And to top it off, she was traveling with her young child and husband. Her goal is to show women that they can be competitive and still have a family. She lives what she believes.

So after she tested positive, her coaches got the equipment and things she could do to continue her training until she could test negative. After not having her regular routine runs with the bobsled, she walks away with a silver in the individual.

That didn't happen by chance. She made a choice to do what she needed to do to continue to live out her dream.

Will you be an Erin or Elana?

S.E.T. your mind to what you want and come alive daily!

There is an exception to every rule, and it's you!

But you have to see yourself through God’s eyes.

You have to realize that in life the outcome varies for everyone even though life's equation is the same.

    E + R = O

How do you live out being the exception to the rule?

The K.I.S.S. ~ Be ready to move!

You have to be willing to see the mountain be moved. You have to be willing to make a shift as little as a mustard seed and watch it grow and impact.

    BE READY TO MOVE!!

    E + R = O

This is your R, your response. (RUN)

    1. Find solitude to hear God not the rumblings of the world. Distractions lead you away from your destiny, your calling. The goal is to be magnetically attracted to what God desires for you. Listen more than you compare.

    2. Follow the path made by God. "One step at a time leads to miles of greatness." ~ Kristianne Wargo

    3. Pause for the cause. Here is where time accelerates. Your presence and attention allow you to focus on what matters in the moment.

    4. Reset yourself spiritually. Are you looking for the lightning in the storm or the burning bush in the rain? You need to be in search of the God winks; the little things that matter. But if your heart isn't in it, your heart won't see it.

    5. Stop searching for what is familiar. Be the exception. You have to be willing to take a leap of faith and believe in who you see in the mirror; your reflection.

Are you trying to see the whole plan or the blueprint completely? You have to be willing to take what God has given you and be ready to move to respond to run in the direction of your destiny.

Stop trying to fit in and be willing to stand out. You are an influential leader when you take a chance to change your life with the choice you choose to confirm your response; your run.

    Be ready to move!

You are an exception to the rule! But you must be ok with being the only one.

You don’t have to live up to the norms of those who have gone before you. Stop living for the reflection of what you see in others; be ready to move in the greatness so you see your heavenly reflection of who God designed for only you to see on earth.

There is an exception to the rule, and it's you!

What lenses are you looking through? Are you living your life from the breadcrumbs of heaven or the acceptance of the world?

Your resilience is built by the power of one step when you face that which holds you back (doubt, comparison, fear, failure, etc.).

Get ready to move and be the exception to the rule!

Create your now by finishing stronger today than where you began yesterday to impact the world tomorrow.

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"

    2123 The Power of Perspective

    2123 The Power of Perspective

What you see depends on what you look for. What you look for you will find. How you see and experience life comes from the power of perspective.

When you look at your day and the circumstances you are in, what do you see?

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

Do you see only the negative? Do you see only what's possible? Maybe you just don't care because you are living life as it happens.

How you see things shape your thoughts, your mindset, your intentions for the day, your opinions, your decisions, and your actions (plus reactions), and your responses.

And what you see comes from your perspective!!

Perspective is defined as a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view.

However, I want you to consider the first definition of perspective as a noun.

Perspective is the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point.

How interesting that perspective is based on how we see and experience things, and it also is defined from an artistic point of view.

There is depth to your situation. There is a sense of height as to how the seriousness of a circumstance you face. The position you are in is relative only to the viewpoint in which you see.

    The power of perspective.

“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” — Søren Kierkegaard (Danish Christian philosopher and theologian)

Have you ever tried to live life backward? It is next to impossible. I can't imagine walking around backward all day in order to go forwards.

But what Søren is saying here is that you may not understand why you are experiencing life the way you see it, but you still need to move forward regardless. The understanding may not come until years of forward progress.

Perspective can hold you back or push your forward. It's all in your presence. Presence rules perspective.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Presence rules perspective!

Your presence is what sets you apart from those who just hang-out for convenience living life. Life happens to them, not because of them.

Don't be absent when you can be present.

    1. What does this make possible? When you look at life from an optimistic perspective, what you perceive changes. There is a different landscape.
    2. Lead your day with gratitude. Nothing is more freeing to the mind than gratitude. If you are appreciative of the little things, when the big things happen, you will be able to see the little blessings in the big messes.
    3. Presence rules perspective. When you pay attention and are alert to what is happening around you, there is more beauty to experience and less strife. But if all we see are the problems and messes, you bet you'll only recognize that which is slammed in front of you.

You have a choice. Live life or let life live in you. You can live life with intention or live life with reactions. You get to decide this every day you are blessed in seeing the sun rise.

Don't take for granted what God has placed before you. Be aware of what is happening in your every day.

"One step at a time leads to miles of greatness!" ~ Kristianne Wargo

You have a wide lens and a narrow lens. It's not one-lens-fits-all.

Get in the game of life. Live life forward, and be okay when you only understand it backward.

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"

    2432 How Generous Are You?

    2432 How Generous Are You?
How generous are you? Giving to others comes easy compared to giving to yourself. But what would happen if you committed to your dreams? Putting yourself first seems self-centered and self-serving. Many of us women tend to give more to others ignoring where the most important gift should go first; to yourself. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT But is it so self-serving to focus on your desires? Because in reality, what you can't give to yourself, you take away from others. Now, this might seem backward. However, look at when you are tired and not well-rested. What comes out of you? Your emotions lead the conversations and your actions follow. And most of the time, it's from a posture of "less than". "You cannot give what you do not have." ~ Kristianne Wargo Therefore, leaving your head overwhelmed and your heart empty. This is the beginning of the death of your dreams. Yet, hope still abounds. You can take what you need without sacrificing that which you want to give. But it takes a heart of gold to surpass the tarnish which has built up over time.  Take A.I.M. on what matters and spit-shine your dreams. The K.I.S.S. ~ Spit-shine your dreams! You may not want to hear this, but great things take time. I remember when I was a little girl, and my Dad would sit at the end of his bed or at the table, and prepare his shoes. It was all about the spit shine. And I could never understand why he spit on his shoes, yet they always looked so snazzy.  "What you need, you already have." ~ Kristianne Wargo However, you have to have that heart of gold that is willing to s.p.i.t.-shine.
    1. SUSTAIN what's yours to have. Give yourself permission to reach for the stars. The dream that's been placed in your heart is there for a reason. So don't give up even during the toughest season. Keep that dream alive. Sustain what's yours to have.
    2. PREPARE what matters on a daily basis. You can't get to where you are going unless you have the destination in mind. Get your stuff together! What you do today impacts your tomorrow.
    3. INITIATE the process. The goal here is to secure what matters by taking the necessary steps to get to your destination. "One step at a time leads to miles of greatness." ~ Kristianne Wargo Once you have prepared, now you take A.I.M.! It's literally doing the next step -- taking your planning and preparation to the next step.
    4. TACKLE your hesitations. Here is where you go after what is yours to gain by not allowing your mindset to sabotage that which is yours to claim. Keep your thoughts and emotions in check. What you believe in your heart you wear on your sleeve.
Let your generosity for yourself guide your actions in reaching for the stars. This is your dream to keep!  "What you need, you already have." ~ Kristianne Wargo "Be present. Be incredible. 2600 Are You Holding Yourself Back?

2600 Are You Holding Yourself Back?
Are you holding yourself back from success? Because you can be your greatest asset or your fiercest enemy. Don't entangle yourself for fear of failure. Ignite what's within your heart and lead your every day. What irks me more than anything are those who choose to hang out with their excuses like they're best friends. Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Join us at http://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT. http://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT But the truth hurts. However, I don't want you to get down on yourself. This is a movement for what you have today to impact tomorrow. You are a living legacy. And that means you are in motion, because you are living. "Action ignites motivation." ~ Kristianne Wargo It's this fundamental tension that creates a bond between what is and what can be. This comes from so many areas of life.
    - Purpose
    - Dreams
    - Fear
    - Action
    - Failure
    - Motivation
    - Success
All of which are important ingredients to a well-lived life; a living legacy. Don't hold yourself back! Let your fear ignite your passion to be present.  The K.I.S.S. ~ Let your fear ignite your passion to be present! No matter what comes your way, you are going to have options. But in order to have those options, you have to keep your heart in check and your head grounded.
    - Start with your fear. Fear is usually a good indication of where you should be headed. Because fear of the unknown ultimately is the excuse you adopt to protect your procrastination.
    - Ignite your passion. This comes from the dreams and goals you've been chasing. Get up at the starting line again. Every day there are new mercies. So don't hang yourself up on what you got hung up on. Ignite your passion with words and actions.
    - Be present in the moment. You don't have to get everything done all at the same time. But you can choose to be present on what you are working on in the moment.
You can't control everything throughout your day. But you can control how you respond.  So make your response count for what you need today. Create your now. "Your presence opens up possibilities creating greater opportunities." ~ Kristianne Wargo Don't hold yourself back! Get back in the game of life. It's okay if you had to sit back off and on.
