    Podcast Summary

    • The Smart Method: Transforming vague goals into clear plans of action.Setting clearly defined, measurable, and actionable goals using the Smart Method increases the likelihood of achieving them. Being specific and precise about your goals improves your chances of success.

Goal setting requires a strategy to increase the likelihood of achieving them. It is not enough to simply write down or come up with vague aspirations. Goals must be clearly defined, measurable, and actionable. Using the Smart Method, which stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound, can transform these vague ambitions into clear plans of action. When setting goals, it is important to address the what, why, and how of the goal. Being specific and precise is crucial for success. The more clear and specific you can be about your goals, the better your chances of achieving them.

    • The Importance of Setting Clear and Specific GoalsSetting clear and specific goals increases the likelihood of success. Asking detailed questions, identifying roadblocks, and visualizing the desired outcome are key steps in achieving these goals.

Setting clear and specific goals is essential for achieving success. Rob Dial uses the analogy of shooting at a target to illustrate this point. Just shooting aimlessly may not lead to hitting the target, but using a sniper rifle with a scope allows for a clearer focus and a higher chance of success. To set clear goals, it is important to ask detailed questions such as what the goal is, who is involved, what specifically needs to be achieved, and why it is important. Additionally, identifying roadblocks, distractions, and the necessary actions to take can help in achieving the goal. Visualizing the desired outcome also aids in getting clear and specific on the goal.

    • The power of visualization and writing in achieving goalsVisualizing and writing down goals significantly increases the likelihood of success. It makes goals more concrete, actionable, and motivates us to achieve them. Sharing progress with others boosts success rates by 33%.

Visualization and writing down our goals can greatly increase our chances of success. Numerous studies have shown that when we make a conscious effort to visualize our goals, we are more likely to achieve them and reach our desired outcomes faster. Whether it's picturing ourselves in great shape on the beach or crossing the finish line of a marathon, visualization can have a powerful impact on our motivation and dedication. Additionally, writing down our goals takes them out of our heads and onto paper, making them concrete and actionable. A study by Dr. Gail Matthews even found that those who wrote down their goals and shared their progress with others were 33% more successful in accomplishing their goals. So, let's start visualizing and putting pen to paper to supercharge our goal-setting journey.

    • The Power of Writing Down GoalsWriting down your goals increases clarity, specificity, and the likelihood of achieving them, leading to greater success and financial rewards.

Writing down your goals can significantly increase your chances of success. A famous study conducted at Harvard found that while 13% of their graduating class had goals, only 3% actually wrote them down. Ten years later, the 3% who had written down their goals were earning, on average, ten times more money than the other 97% combined. This demonstrates the power of clarity and specificity in goal-setting. When you write down your goals, it forces you to be clear about what you want and helps you develop a plan of action. Instead of vague statements like "I want to get better at playing the guitar," having specific goals like "I want to learn three new songs by September 24th" gives you a clear direction to work towards.

    • The power of setting measurable and achievable goalsBreaking down big goals into smaller milestones with specific numbers allows for easier tracking and adjustments, while ensuring goals are realistic increases chances of success.

Setting measurable goals is essential for tracking progress and staying accountable. By breaking down big goals into smaller milestones and assigning specific numbers to them, you can easily monitor your progress and make adjustments if necessary. For example, if your goal is to lose 30 pounds in six months, breaking it down to 1.25 pounds per week allows you to track your progress and make necessary adjustments to stay on track. Additionally, it's important to ensure that your goals are achievable. While it's great to have big aspirations, it's also crucial to set realistic goals to increase your chances of success. So, make sure your goals are measurable and achievable to make steady progress towards achieving them.

    • Setting Achievable Goals for Long-Term SuccessAssess the feasibility of your goals considering your current lifestyle, make necessary adjustments, prioritize your time, seek support, and make smarter choices to achieve desired results.

Setting achievable goals is crucial for maintaining motivation and achieving long-term success. It is important to assess whether a goal is both possible and probable, taking into consideration the constraints and responsibilities of your current lifestyle. Making adjustments and prioritizing your time and commitments may be necessary in order to pursue your goals effectively. Saying yes to one thing often requires saying no to others, and you must be willing to make sacrifices and changes in order to see progress. This may involve adjusting your routines, seeking support from others, and making smarter choices in terms of diet and exercise. Remember, it's not always about eating less, but rather eating right to achieve desired weight loss results.

    • Aligning Goals for Meaningful ProgressOur goals should align with our larger life objectives and values. By understanding our "why" and ensuring the relevance of our goals, we can make meaningful progress in creating the life we desire.

It is crucial to ensure that our goals align with our larger life objectives, values, and ambitions. We need to ask ourselves why a particular goal is significant to us, as our "why" will determine our commitment and willingness to pursue it. If we have a compelling reason behind our goal, we will find a way to achieve it. However, if we cannot find a strong enough reason, it may not be the right goal for us. We must also consider if the goal is relevant to the life we want to create. It may require making sacrifices or adjustments that align with our long-term goals and plans. By prioritizing and aligning our goals, we can make meaningful progress in creating the life we desire.

    • Setting Clear Goals for SuccessSetting clear and prioritized goals with deadlines helps us stay focused, avoid distractions, and take action towards our desired outcomes. Regularly reviewing and adjusting goals is crucial for progress.

Setting clear and prioritized goals with deadlines is crucial for success. Instead of spreading our focus and energy among multiple goals, we should identify the most important goal based on our current life situation and desired future outcome. By allocating 100% of our effort towards that goal, we can avoid distractions and stay committed. Setting deadlines creates a sense of urgency and enables better planning. Without deadlines, goals remain mere dreams. Just like how we become more productive before going on vacation or studying for an exam, imposing time constraints on ourselves drives us to prioritize and take action. Regularly reviewing and adjusting our goals is also important for progress.

    • The Importance of Having a Strategy for Goal AchievementSetting SMART goals, breaking them down into milestones, regularly assessing progress, and making necessary adjustments are all essential steps towards achieving your desired outcome.

Having a strategy is crucial for achieving your goals. Rob Dial emphasizes the importance of setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-constrained (SMART) goals. He suggests breaking down your goals into smaller milestones, regularly assessing your progress, and making necessary adjustments along the way. By doing so, you can stay on track and ensure that you are moving closer to your desired outcome. Rob also highlights the common mistake of simply stating your goals without taking the time to plan and strategize how to achieve them. Whether you adopt this particular strategy or devise your own, having a clear plan increases your chances of success.

    • The Importance of Creating a Strategy for Achieving GoalsSetting goals without a plan is a recipe for disappointment. By applying strategies, making SMART goals, and tracking progress, we increase the likelihood of success. Treat personal goals with the same seriousness and accountability as work goals.

Setting goals without a plan is a recipe for disappointment. Rob Dial emphasizes the importance of not just making New Year's resolutions or setting arbitrary goals, but actually creating a strategy to achieve them. He draws a parallel to working for a company, where hitting revenue targets requires careful planning and training. Similarly, we should apply the same level of dedication and organization to our personal goals. By tracking our progress, making SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals, and applying strategies, we increase the likelihood of success. We should treat our personal goals with the same seriousness and accountability as if our boss gave us a deadline, as external pressure can be a powerful motivator.

    16. 2 Lessons From Tony Robbins That Will Shift Your Life Now

    16. 2 Lessons From Tony Robbins That Will Shift Your Life Now

Tony Robbins is a world renowned business & life strategist and coach. In this episode, host Kristin Zeier focuses on two of her current favorite Tony Robbins lessons she has learned.

    Tony Robbins Lesson #1:

The first Tony Robbins lesson is that life is happening for us and not to us. Kristin provides her interpretation of what this means and shares insight into how this has helped her shift her mindset around some of the biggest obstacles she has ever experienced.

By learning how to shift your perspective around events & circumstances in your past & present, you can quickly shift the direction and growth of your life. Instead of thinking that circumstances are happening to you and holding you back, you can flip the narrative & view these things as experiences that are serving you.

For example, Kristin provides an example of being rear-ended by someone else who is at fault. If you are thinking of this in terms of something that is happening to you, you may become upset, frustrated, stressed out and angry. You allow it to throw off your entire day. It becomes a pain point in your life.

On the flip side, if you are rear ended and someone else is at fault, you can choose to use this opportunity to express compassion towards the other person. Maybe you use this opportunity to become more patient. Or, to learn how to let go of the control of all outcomes and learn to accept things as they come & roll with it.

This is the same circumstance but two very different perspectives around it.

    Lesson #1 Exercise:

In the next 2 days, take 20 minutes and identify an experience from your past that you perceive to be something that happened to you (versus for you). Write the story of what happened as it currently stands in your mind.

Next, brainstorm a list of ways this experience helped to shape you into who you are today. How did you grow from it? What did you gain and experience? How did that experience perfectly serve & prepare you for where you are today?

    Tony Robbins Lesson #2:

The second Tony Robbins lesson that Kristin shares in this episode is that most people underestimate what they can do in a decade and overestimate what they can do in a year.

Instead of thinking of your future in terms of one year goals, Tony says that we should be thinking of our life in terms of the theme for decades at a time.

While we can set goals within the decade timeframe, the idea is not to have a ten year detailed plan. Instead, when you have a theme or a destination in mind, you allow things to unfold and evolve around you.

Although you keep your focus on the theme or destination, you are open to new opportunities, new paths and new insights. You course correct when needed but allow things to unfold organically along the way.

This is a much more enjoyable way to live out your life and enjoy the journey while also reaching your destination.

    Lesson #2 Exercise:

Decide what the theme is going to be for the next 10 years of your life. Don't worry about the details or how you will make it happen. Simply identify the theme and set one goal you can accomplish this year that will align you with that theme.

    Conclusion

Tony Robbins is a wonderfully insightful and amazing man that brings so much value to thousands of people all over the world. You can find his teachings on a variety of platforms such as YouTube, podcasts and his website.

    5. Spring Cleaning One Dusty Old Habit

    5. Spring Cleaning One Dusty Old Habit

Welcome to episode five of the one thing podcast. This is the perfect time to talk about spring cleaning. We are not going to be talking about spring cleaning or decluttering your home. That is not a topic that I enjoy talking about. Leave that to the experts out there in that area.

Instead, we are going to be talking about spring cleaning those dusty old habits and thought patterns that you and I and all of us have just running in autopilot within our lives.

According to the University of Scranton, 92% of people who set New Years resolutions fail to achieve them. It's become very clear that a lot of people have a lot of big ideas and goals, but they are not actually achieving them. That is a huge problem. Why are we not able to do this?

A huge part of what goes into accomplishing a goal is around your mindset. Achieving a goal is 80% mindset and 20% tactics.

We have two major key points here at play. Number one, 82% of people who set New Years resolutions fail to achieve them. Number two, by consistently practicing becoming more self aware of thoughts that we are thinking, we can start to identify the limiting beliefs that we have running in the background of our lives, and how that is affecting our energy output, which goes into our goals.

Now, these two key points are very interrelated, because as we just talked about, your goals are 80% mindset. Those thoughts and those habits that you have running in autopilot, are what is either driving you to reach your goals, or is blocking you from reaching your goals.

Did you set New Years resolution this year in 2021? Or, did you set goals in any time in the last three months or quarter one, or whenever you were listening to this?

So, if you did set any goals in the last three months, have you made any progress on achieving them? Are you consistently still working toward them? If the answer is no, you are not making any progress, or you've given up or you have hit a wall, no judgment, because a 92% of the population is in the same boat as you.

So let's take this opportunity, with it being spring, to reassess some of those cobwebs in our minds and in our lives, metaphorically speaking. Let's identify just one and get rid of it.

We're all busy women who have a lot of things going on. As you're listening to this, you might already know what some of those dusty patterns and habits might be for you. Maybe you know, and maybe you don't. If you don't know, that is totally okay.

That is where reflection work will really come in handy for you. If you do have something that comes to mind right away, that you are ready to let go of, maybe it is a just a recurring thought that you have about yourself that is just not productive or helpful, then I encourage you to use this opportunity to let that go.

If you don't know, I encourage you to either spend some time journaling, meditating, or sitting down and intentionally thinking through it. What are some different habits and thought patterns that you have?

Once you have identified a dusty old habit or pattern that you are ready to let go of the spring, write it down. This is really important. Don't just think about this, and then forget about it.

It could just be as simple as letting go of a recurring negative thought that you have about yourself every single day. It will take some work, it will take some effort. It's not going to be just the snap of a finger.

The question is, what is your dusty old pattern or habit that you're ready to give up this spring? I would love to know what it is. So please connect with me on Instagram. Until next time, let's get inspired.
