    Dove or Pigeon?

    Dove or Pigeon?

The word “dove” might make you think of an elegant bird symbolizing peace, while the word “pigeon” might bring up images of rowdy flocks of city birds. But there’s no formal distinction between doves and pigeons, only a linguistic one. In many languages, the birds are one and the same. The dove and pigeon family includes some of the most beautiful birds in the world.

    5 Things In 15 Minutes / Trust

    5 Things In 15 Minutes / Trust

This week I attended the 2023 Edelman Trust Barometer Executive Insights event. The Trust Barometer is an annual global trust and credibility study that measures trust across society. I’ve used their data in my work over the years so I was surprised to learn this year that the business was named as the most trusted institution. Business is trusted more than non-governmental organizations, the media, and the government – and the only of those institutions rated both ethical and competent. 55% of Americans trust businesses. And while this isn’t a large majority, overall, trust has increased across all demographics.

The study also revealed that while economic anxieties, a class divide, and the spread of misinformation have led to increased polarization, the place people feel safest to talk about societal issues is the workplace. Why? Because they generally expect people to behave. Very interesting. Has that been your experience?

The Trust Barometer also reveals that over 60% of your customers and employees are asking businesses to take a stand on societal issues. I believe this is good vibes indeed – the opportunity here for businesses to build upon this already growing trust can be transformative for any organization.

Here are the other good vibes I found this week:

    2. ASL Performer Justina Miles Stole the Show at Super Bowl Lvii

    3. Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair

    4. Spain Becomes the First Country in Europe to Approve Menstrual Leave

    5.  Spain Gives Final Approval to Law Making It Easier to Legally Change Gender

    Baptism of Jesus

    Baptism of Jesus

At the age of 30, Jesus was baptised in the Jordan River by his cousin, John the Baptist. Jesus was not baptised because He needed to repent of wrong but because He wanted to do everything right. He “fulfilled all righteousness”. His heavenly Father was “well pleased.”

God also loves us and is pleased when we obey from the heart.

Bible verses used in this podcast:
    Matthew 3:13-17

    Outline:

    1. Jesus came to be baptised (Matthew 3:13-15)
    2. Jesus is baptised (Matthew 3:16a)
    3. God's approval (Matthew 3:16b-17)

    Tips for Teaching Children:

    1. Before class, contact each parent and ask them to share a specific way they are proud of their son or daughter.  Use the following format:
      • "_________(child's name), you are my son/daughter, and I love you.
      • I am so proud of you because ____________
(list one positive action the child does)."
    2. Then, in class, after you have talked about Matthew 3:17, tell the children that their parents are proud of them like God was proud of his son.  One by one, share what each parent has written.

    Tips for Teaching Adults

    1. Divide the class into pairs or small groups.  Using the same format as with the parents above, adults can share words of genuine affirmation:
      • "_________(adult's name), you are my brother/sister in Christ.
      • I love you.
      • I am so proud of you because ____________
(list one positive action the adult does)."
    2. Distribute cards or writing paper and encourage adults to use this same format to write a note to someone.

Psalm 55: Stay and Pray; Don't Run Away

Psalm 55: Stay and Pray; Don't Run Away

Psalm 55 (New King James Version)

Andrew and Edwin consider David's wish to be a dove fleeing into the wilderness. They discuss our desires to find escape, encouraging us instead to hang on to God in prayer.
