It is a busy week for the Purdue Wrestling crew with the Clarion Open last Sunday, National Signing Day on Wednesday, and the home opener against Rider coming up next Sunday and we break it all down.  The Boilermakers brought home six championships, a first place team finish, seven finalists and twelve placewinners from their trip to the Clarion Open over the weekend. No. 10 Matt Ramos and No. 12 Parker Filius won their titles outright, while the duos of Dustin Norris and Jacob Macatangay and No. 14 Kendall Coleman and Nate Camiscioli shared their titles with each other once they reached the finals. Six more Boilermakers made the podium to give head coach Tony Ersland's team 240 team points, good for first place and 41 more than second place. One of the most exciting days of the year is upon us as National Signing Day is finally here. Head coach Tony Ersland announced the 2023 Purdue wrestling signing class on Wednesday, inking five new Boilermakers to national letters of intent. He welcomes Joey Blaze, Greyson Clark, Ashton Jackson, Delaney Ruhlman and Cole Solomey to the Boilermaker family to make up what will surely be Ersland's sixth top-25 recruiting class. S4E7 Wrestling, Acting & Alopecia - Discovering What Makes Him Who He Is, with Angel Rosario, Jr.

Welcome to this episode of Alopecia Life. Thank you for spending your time with me and our guest, Angel Rosario, Jr., today. Angel was born and raised in Chicago. Both of his parents were born and raised in Puerto Rico. He started acting back in 2015, and credits his distinct look and presence that have given him amazing opportunities to alopecia. This interview was filled with a lot of laughter, moments of seriousness, insights about coping mechanisms while living with alopecia, and so much more. Angel's dog, Icee and my dog, Noodle both did some voice work throughout the episode.

There's a lot of work that goes into pre and post production of a podcast. There are times when I am listening to a guest where I have a burning follow-up question and the moment passes by. After the interview, I may ask them these questions. When he said, everybody told him he just needed to "ignore them," I wanted to know what he got from that experience, or what he wished he would have heard. He sent a message on to all of us toward the end credits.

Thanks again for listening. To find Angel on social media, you can find those links in the show notes. Check out his previous roles in Chicago Med, Mayans MC, Law & Order SVU. You'll be seeing a lot more of him this year, with the recent release of Black Adam & Cobra Kai,  and a still yet to be known hush hush project.

Always Aggressive Podcast | Season 3, Episode 20

The Always Aggressive Podcast welcomed one of its most distinguished guests in the show’s history this week, hosting 1988 Olympic gold medalist Kenny Monday. In the tail end of his first year as the head wrestling coach at SPIRE Academy, Monday talks with the guys about his background in wrestling, his career path to SPIRE and some of his highlights not only as a wrestler himself, but also as a wrestling father.

A three-time Olympian and member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Monday hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma and competed collegiately for Oklahoma State University. A three-time NCAA finalist and 1984 national champion, he transitioned into freestyle where he won both Olympic and World gold.

His coaching career took him from Oklahoma State, to youth and high school club wrestling in Texas, to the mixed martial arts scene, in addition to a stop with the Tar Heel Wrestling Club in North Carolina before heading to SPIRE.

Monday also weighed in on being the parent of two NCAA Division I wrestlers in his sons Kennedy and Quincy Monday. He has coached both of them on the mat, both as children and Kennedy some at North Carolina, but has also experienced just watching from the stands.

The Boilermakers will be out to Geneva, Ohio this summer to visit Monday as the SPIRE Academy will play host to the U23 World Team Trials in June.

Always Aggressive Podcast | Season 3, Episode 16

After mother nature interrupted the regularly-scheduled programming last week, the Always Aggressive Podcast returned to cover the last two weeks of action on-and-off the mat. Purdue head coach Tony Ersland and the crew look at dual wins over Indiana and Minnesota, the Boilermakers’ outgoing seniors and a blind look at national rankings.

The Boilermakers have won their last two conference duals, and three of their last four, earning a 17-16 win at Indiana and defeating No. 16 Minnesota 18-14 in Purdue’s final home dual of the season. Both wins were significant from a historical perspective as the Boilermakers won their 12th straight over Indiana, while snapping a 12-dual win streak for the Golden Gophers over Purdue and earning the first win over Minnesota since 2004.

Seniors Max Lyon and Devin Schroder went out of Holloway Gymnasium on an especially high note as Lyon defeated No. 22 Isaiah Salazar at 184 pounds, 4-3, while Schroder knocked off No. 9 Patrick McKee at 125 pounds, 8-3.

Finally, wrestling supervisor of operations Tanner Lipsett presented Ersland and Cory Palm with an interesting exercise this week, creating blind resumes for two specific sets of rankings. The crew took a look at all the things that potentially influence rankings, and how perspectives change when you strip everything down to wins, losses and head-to-head results.

Always Aggressive Podcast | Season 3, Episode 13

The Big Ten dual season has arrived and the Purdue wrestling team had a big first weekend, traveling to a pair of top-10 ranked conference opponents. The Boilermakers knocked off No. 9 Nebraska on Friday, earning the program’s highest team dual ranking in 23 seasons in Tuesday’s national coaches poll.

The Boilermakers capitalized on a pair of top-10 ranked upsets against the Huskers to earn an 18-15 win in Lincoln, but followed up with a loss at top-ranked iowa on Sunday. Ersland found a variety of mistakes in the Boilermakers’ performance, but was open with the idea that they were fixable mistakes and is back in the practice room working on those things this week.

Purdue hosts Michigan State on Saturday for the Boilermakers’ Big Ten dual home opener, set to welcome the 5-1 Spartans to Holloway Gymnasium.

In closing Ersland and Tanner Lipsett had the opportunity to attend Monday’s CFP National Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and catch Cory Palm up on some of the spectacles of the game, both on and off the field.
