    Denise Littlefield Sobel — Philanthropist

    Denise Littlefield Sobel — Philanthropist

Denise Littlefield Sobel takes us on a highly personal journey through her varied and interesting life. It starts with her experience as a member of the first class of women to enroll at Williams for a full four-year term. Denise talks candidly about her mental health struggles as a student, including serious bouts of depression. Continuing in this personal vein, she discusses her conversion to Judaism against the strong wishes of her mother, and how she has come to practice acceptance as a parent herself. Another intensely personal portion of the interview focuses on the loss of Denise’s son, Elliot, who died at a tragically young age. Denise closes the episode with a discussion of her many years of philanthropy—focusing on arts and culture—and her recent appointment as Chair of the Clark Art Institute’s Board of Trustees, the first woman to hold the position.

Our guest today, Joel Cook, has been fishing this system since he was old enough to ride his bike to the river and knows better than most how to consistently catch good numbers of decent quality bass.

#152 Cubs Welcome Joc Pederson & Trevor Williams - Real Major League Players!
We specifically asked for good, or at least interesting things to start happening with the Cubs...and then they kind of did! The Cubs signed former Dodger Joc Pederson to play left field (and sometimes center), and starting pitcher/all around fun guy Trevor Williams to compete for a spot in the rotation. Former #4 pick, starting pitcher Kohl Stewart also signed to a deal, as the Ricketts reportedly found several dollars to be put toward winning baseball games.

Calvin Williams, Cleveland Police Chief: Our Collective Challenge: Restoring Mutual Trust and Respect Between Law Enforcement and Our Neighborhoods
This episode from August 17, 2017 is part of our "Most Memorable" collection. Recommended by Akron Roundtable board member, Vivian Hairston: "Chief Williams, did a really great job of helping me understand policing from the police perspective.  I also gained a better understanding of the consent decree." As we collectively explore the topic of policing, this is an opportunity to reflect back on the 2017 presentation's message aimed at bridging the gap between police and community through addressing past mistakes as well as taking a holistic approach to change in our education, health care, economic and criminal justice systems, alike. Chief Calvin D. Williams is the 40th Chief of the Cleveland Division of Police, appointed as Chief on February 10, 2014.
