"Jon Shearer has left the building" - that note was posted recently on the KGRG Alumni page signaling that the unofficial Godfather of the station had unexpectedly passed away. KGRG is Green River Community College's station about 20 miles outside Seattle and has been the start of more bands than I can remember and home to many music biz veterans. Today alumni gather to deep dive on the history, memories, and what we got from that magical broadcast trailer.

Rules of engagement don’t really exist in music and even if they did… the business feels like it’s changing more every six months than it use to in five years. I’m always in awe of people who have patience. Songwriters go to work every day not knowing if their music will be recorded, or by who, when it will come out, or if they get paid. When we did the interview we had the WORST Zoom connection and only were able to chat for about 15 minutes before aborting mission. I still had so many questions I emailed him… and he answered them all.

Nabil Ayers is President of the Beggars Music Group, played in many successful Seattle area bands, and owned my favorite local record store Sonic Boom. Recently he released his Memoir "My Life in the Sunshine: Searching for My Father and Discovering My Family".
