    Ep. 218: The Inbetweeners - When 80s Met 90s pt.2

    Ep. 218: The Inbetweeners - When 80s Met 90s pt.2

This week we pay homage to bands straddled the world of the 80s hard n’ heavy and the 90s alternative n’ grunge. These were bands that were somewhat outside of the status quo specifically in the hard rock and metal world that seemed to be playing music that was more genre and categorization-defying. Thus we created our own non-genre called; The Inbetweeners!

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover all 3 categories and even some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the hard rockin’ 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and some bands simply got caught in the middle. Go and check out these songs and the albums that they come from and enjoy some music from The Inbetweeners!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Naked Sun – “Psycho-Activate” from Naked Sun (1991)
    2. Funhouse – “Y.R.S.” from Generation Generator (1990)
    3. No Walls – “Naive” from No Wall (1992)
    4. Animal Bag – “Missing Out” from Animal Bag (1992)
    5. Red Sea – “Blood” from Blood (1994)
    6. The Hatters – “Sacrifice” from The Madcap Adventures Of The Avocado Overlord (1994)
    7. Loudhouse – “Faith Farm” from For Crying Out Loud (1991)

Ep. 217: Raiding The Progressive Rock Crypt - 80's Neo-Prog

Ep. 217: Raiding The Progressive Rock Crypt - 80's Neo-Prog

This week get your nerd on with us as we are raiding the Prog Rock crypt again. However, this will be a much different journey into the world of progressiveness, as we are covering Neo-Prog from the early to mid-1980s. A much different time for progressive rock, as these bands were influenced by more than just Genesis, Yes, and King Crimson. These groups were injecting heavy doses of hard rock, new wave, punk, and pop into their progressive Day-Glo soup! Keep an open mind and give it a listen…

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Prog rock in the 60s and 70s initially had mostly classical music and jazz influences, but over the last 40 years it has come to include other fusions of music styles including metal, punk, funk, folk, and electronic. From Zappa and Sgt. Pepper to the 1980s music by bands like Marillion and Pendragon… This is Neo-Prog Rock! Get yer nerd on!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Saga – “Wind Him Up” from Worlds Apart (1981)
    2. Twelfth Night – “East Of Eden” from Smiling At Grief (1982)
    3. IQ – “The Wake” from The Wake (1985)
    4. Pendragon – “Fly High Fall Far” from The Jewel (1985)
    5. Gowan – “Keep Up The Fight” from Gowan (1982)
    6. It Bites – “All In Red” from The Big Lad In The Windmill (1986)

Ep. 214: Grave Mistake: TRUCKFIGHTERS Shoulda Been Huge!!!

This week we present another installment of our ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. Well, we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This episode covers a band that is clearly in the Lost category for most. Ep. 212: Shredding The Tomb - Guitars That Rocked Our World

Ep. 212: Shredding The Tomb - Guitars That Rocked Our World

This week we continue the discussion that we started at the end of our last show; with our admiration of the almighty power of the guitar and the guitar hero! This time around we are going to play guitarists, or guitar passages or leads in songs that caught our ears at some point in our lives that made us truly stop and listen. It’s not always about the training, finesse, dexterity, or speed a player has or even the style of music or song that is being played. If you are into guitar and the sound of strings being plucked and bent then you know… It’s just something you feel deep down that gets to your heart and soul!

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss all three. Get out your old Guitar World and Guitar Player mags and flip the pages as we discuss some of the most amazing fingers to ever touch a fretboard! Be sure to also check out the Jason Becker documentary “Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet” that we mention.

    Songs this week include:

    1. Anvil Chorus – “Blue Flames” from The Killing Sun (2009)
    2. Kirk Hammett – “The Jinn” from Portals - EP (2022)
    3. Bruce Kulick – “Ain’t Gonna Die” from BK3 (2010)
    4. Buckethead – “Welcome To Bucketheadland” from Giant Robot (1994)
    5. Tears For Fears – “Broken” from Songs From The Big Chair (1985)
    6. Psycho Motel – “Welcome To The World” from Welcome To The World (1997)
    7. Cacophony – “Go Off!” from Go Off! (1988)

Ep. 205: Black Friday - Blackout with Chris Czynszak

Ep. 205: Black Friday - Blackout with Chris Czynszak

In observance of the retail event of the year that is Black Friday, InObscuria took it upon ourselves to have way too much Wild Turkey the day before and thus completely blackout… We’ve invited our friend and co-host of the Decibel Geek Podcast: Mr. Chris Czynszak on to help us put the pieces together in an in-depth discussion of the blackout era of Alice Cooper’s career. If you are not aware of Alice’s obscure, creepy, and quirky output from the early 80s; you are in for a treat! Grab some cheese and wine and join us for a little cracktastic Cooper!

What is this InObscuria? Every week Robert and Kevin exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week’s episode features the Lost era of a very mainstream artist. There aren’t many artists like this that have a period of their career where they are still releasing content but have gone “dark” to most of the record-buying public. Hope we turn you on to something new from a guy you thought you already knew!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Alice Cooper – “Pain”from Flush The Fashion(1980)
    2. Alice Cooper – “Headlines” from Flush The Fashion (1980)

Ep. 202: Covers From Beyond!!! Tributes To AC/DC

Ep. 202: Covers From Beyond!!! Tributes To AC/DC

This week is another episode all about bands playing other bands' songs… well one band in particular this time around. For those about to rock: we are paying tribute to the one and only; AC/DC! It only took a little thunder and lightning striking experience by way of Kevin’s lack of electrician skills to prompt this appreciation!!! It may have taken a few years off his life, but at least we got this killer concept of an episode out of it. AC/DC is such a staple in rock, but perhaps these covers will put a new spin on their amazing songs!

What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert is forced to test his endurance and provide feedback, as he has no idea what he will be subjected to every week. Our hope is that we turn you on to something that was lost on your ears, or something you've simply forgotten about, or that (in our opinion) should have been the next big thing.

    Songs this week include:

    1. Hard-Ons – “Let There Be Rock (featuring Henry Rollins)” from Let There Be Rock - single (1991)
    2. Lemmy & Jake E. Lee – “It’s A Long Way To The Top (The Mission UK Remix)” from Remixed To Hell: AC/DC Tribute (2000)
    3. Halestorm – “Shoot To Thrill” from ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs - EP (2013)
    4. Saxon – “Problem Child” from Inspirations (2021)
    5. Razed In Black – “Hells Bells” from Covered In Black: An Industrial Tribute To The Kings Of High Voltage AC/DC (1997)
    6. Iced Earth – “Highway To Hell” from Tribute To The Gods (2002)
    7. Dynamite Boy – “TNT” from Punk Goes Metal (2000)
    8. Joe Lynn Turner & Phil Collen – “Back In Black (Die Krupps Remix)” from Remixed To Hell: AC/DC Tribute (2000)
    9. Living Colour – “Back In Black” from Collideøscope (2003)
