Welcome back for a special episode of Behind the Uni, in collaboration with Meningitis Now! Join us to chat with students Tilly and Lana about their experiences of contracting meningitis, trusting your instincts and how you can look after yourself at uni generally.
Young people moving to university are at a particularly high risk of contracting meningitis, so we recommend that you:
- Get vaccinated before moving to uni â the MenACWY Vaccine is free on the NHS
- Download the NHS app and register with a GP surgery local to your uni so that you can access medical help quickly if you need it
- and know the common symptoms of meningitis, which can include: a fever with cold hands and feet, vomiting, feeling drowsy or difficulty waking, a severe headache, a stiff neck, confusion and irritability, severe muscle pain, blotchy skin which might have a rash, and a dislike of bright lights.
If you or a friend is ill and getting worse, trust your instincts and seek medical help immediately. To find out more about meningitis, visit https://www.meningitisnow.org
