    enSeptember 19, 2023

    Podcast Summary

    • Shopping at Kroger: Variety and ValueKroger offers a vast selection of affordable meal options and additional savings through digital coupons and fuel points, making for a rewarding shopping experience despite occasional inconveniences.

Kroger offers an extensive selection of over 30,000 delicious options for mealtime inspiration, along with everyday low prices and additional savings through digital coupons and fuel points. Despite occasional inconveniences or repetitions in conversation, the value and variety of choices at Kroger make it a worthwhile shopping experience. However, it's important to note that fuel restrictions apply for the fuel points program. During a discussion, there were moments of frustration and discomfort, such as repeating the same topics and wearing similar clothing. Despite these minor setbacks, both parties continued to work together and aim for progress. For instance, they discussed the possibility of trying new roller coasters but hesitated due to costs and travel time. In essence, Kroger's diverse offerings and cost-effective pricing provide an enjoyable shopping experience, even when faced with minor inconveniences. The importance of communication and collaboration in overcoming challenges was also highlighted in the conversation.

    • Fear of Extreme ExperiencesSpeaker has a strong fear of intense experiences, causing physical reactions and avoidance behavior.

The speaker has a fear of extreme experiences, particularly those involving heights or intense sensations. This fear is so strong that it causes them to physically step back and feel a sense of panic. The speaker also mentioned an incident where a decorative part of a fairground ride came loose and hit a boy, which further emphasizes their apprehension towards such experiences. Despite this fear, the speaker expressed a willingness to face their anxiety for the sake of a challenge, such as exploring a haunted castle or even meeting the England football team. The speaker's fear is a significant red flag, indicating a potential avoidance behavior towards new and exciting experiences.

    • Observing a Mysterious ManRegret missed opportunities, but seize new ones and take action to achieve success or failure.

The speaker was intrigued by a mysterious man who looked unlike others and expressed interest in observing him and his physique up close. However, an opportunity to meet him passed by when the speaker and a friend attended an event where the man was present. The speaker felt uncomfortable approaching him alone and regretted not seizing the opportunity. They later discussed a business idea with a friend who had also attended the event, but negotiations about profits and responsibilities were not yet finalized. The speaker expressed mixed feelings about passing the idea on to others, fearing potential failure but also the possibility of success. Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of seizing opportunities and taking action, rather than regretting missed chances.

    • The importance of a presenter's genuine interest and connection with the audienceSuccess of a podcast or creative project depends on a presenter who is passionate and connects with the audience, not on big names or large following.

The success of a podcast or any creative project depends on finding the right person who is passionate about the topic and has a strong connection with the audience. During a discussion, the idea of having Natalie Cassidy host a property podcast was suggested, but due to logistical issues, it was decided that she should collaborate with someone of her choice instead. The enthusiasm and positive feedback from listeners, especially from a friend who initially had doubts but eventually loved the pilot, highlighted the importance of the presenter's genuine interest and connection with the topic. The project's success is not guaranteed by big names or a large following, but rather by the presenter's ability to engage and resonate with the audience.

    • Planning a 60-mile walking holiday in CornwallThe speaker is embarking on a 6-day, 60-mile walking trip in Cornwall, taking it slow and enjoying the experience, while ensuring safety with walking sticks and nice accommodations.

The speaker is planning a caravan or camper van trip, specifically a walking holiday along the coast of Cornwall. They will be covering about 60 miles in 6 days, starting in Kingsand and ending in Port Loo. They have booked nice Airbnbs with adjoining restaurants for evenings, and plan to walk around 4-5 miles in the morning and afternoon each day. They have concerns about pulling a muscle in the first hour and have bought walking sticks for support. They were inspired by Marrick Larwood, a YouTuber who walks long distances, and plan to take it slow and enjoy the experience. The speaker mentions that they have plateaued with their current activities and are looking for a new adventure.

    • Exploring the human spirit in survival situationsThe show 'Alone' showcases the resilience and adaptability of individuals when faced with extreme circumstances, inspiring personal growth and a deeper appreciation for the world.

The show "Alone" showcases ordinary people pushing their limits in survival situations, forming a deep connection with the viewers as they adapt and overcome challenges. The participants are dropped in the wilderness with only ten essential items, and the one who lasts the longest wins. What makes the show compelling is that it's filmed primarily by the contestants themselves, providing an intimate look into their experiences. During our conversation, we also touched upon the idea of carrying on comfortably with new experiences, like hiking through specific locations mentioned in a TV show. It's natural to feel hesitant or uncertain when embarking on something new, but the sense of accomplishment and growth that comes with it can be worth the initial discomfort. Additionally, we discussed the differences between the American and English versions of "Alone," with the latter focusing more on the human aspect and less on survival skills. Regardless of the version, the show offers a unique perspective on the resilience and adaptability of individuals when faced with extreme circumstances. In summary, "Alone" is a thought-provoking and inspiring television series that highlights the human spirit and our ability to endure and thrive in unexpected situations. It serves as a reminder that stepping out of our comfort zones can lead to personal growth and a deeper appreciation for the world around us.

    • Creating engaging and reassuring podcastsKeep content engaging and ensure listeners feel safe and reassured, whether through short episodes or a trusted figure's voice.

The ideal length for a podcast episode isn't definitively set, and it depends on the content and the connection between the host and the listener. Chris Atkins' 20-minute episodes resonate with some, while others might prefer longer formats. The key is to ensure the content is engaging and leaves the listener feeling safe and reassured, as Jarlath Regan's voice and presence do for the speaker. If the opportunity arises, a short voice note from a trusted figure like Jarlath, reassuring listeners that "everything's gonna be alright," could be a powerful way to end an episode. Ultimately, the goal is to create a podcast that resonates with the audience and leaves them feeling comforted and connected.

    • Jarliffe's busy schedule ended their conversationBe mindful of offering unsolicited advice, especially to those who have already achieved success

Jarliffe's soothing voice had a calming effect on the speaker, but their interaction was cut short due to Jarliffe's busy schedule. The speaker felt a bit embarrassed when they realized they had given him unsolicited advice about making money from podcasts, as Jarliffe was already a successful podcaster. The speaker also mentioned Jarliffe's podcast, "Irishman Abroad," and expressed regret for their past comments. Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of considering someone's background and accomplishments before offering unsolicited advice.

S10 Ep 436 Ad Hoc Drivel: One Belter Of An Episode!
It’s a sticky start to the episode as the guys have nothing to talk about. So they have a try at anything they can think of - from playing Pictionary and checking the charts, to reading out dodgy limericks and reminding themselves of the 90’s TV show Win Lose Or Draw. Then talk turns to celebrities they’ve met earlier in life, like Natalie Imbruglia and Daley Thompson. Which sparks off a whole lot of reminiscing about shitty old jobs. Plus, David closes the show by singing a whole James Blunt song - Chatabix drivel at its finest! S10 Ep 432 Ad Hoc Drivel: Insta Live Podding & Rollercoaster Club

S10 Ep 432 Ad Hoc Drivel: Insta Live Podding & Rollercoaster Club
To kick off the show, Joe tries to trick David by being on a Insta Live at the same time as recording the pod. That soon falls flat though as David knew anyway. In spite of their discomfort at being ‘live’, they plough on regardless and let’s just say, things don’t go smoothly. But then they get one of the viewers to join them who saves the days with some wonderful words of encouragement - thanks Emma! Then Joe tells David about his magical day at the ceremony to award Sue Johnston the Freedom Of The City Of Liverpool and also explains why he’s not going to Thorpe Park today to ride the rollercoasters. David then puts a call-out to the Patreons to see who’s been on The Tower Of Power waterslide in Tenerife. After a short wait there are plenty of Chatabiscuits joining them - so let the rollercoaster club commence! #262 If This Man Can Change, Anyone Can - Armed Robber to Record Breaking Athlete: John McAvoy (Re-release)

CAUTION ADVISED: this podcast contains swearing.

Is there a change you’d like to make in your life? Something you’re desperate to overcome, but can’t see how? Or a goal you’re scared to aim for, because it feels too far off? My guest on this week’s podcast might just convince you to have a go. He’s John McAvoy, endurance athlete extraordinaire, author and the man with one of the most inspirational stories I have ever heard.

John was born into a notorious crime family and has served a total of 10 years in some of the UK’s highest security prisons, for armed robbery. He was raised into a life of organised crime and, as a teenager, it was the only career path he could see for himself. In fact, he bought his first gun at the age of 16 and very quickly became one of the UK’s most wanted men. How did he go from serving two life sentences to breaking British and World sporting records and giving talks to schoolchildren? From violent criminal to opinion leader, invited to 10 Downing Street for his views on the justice system? You’ll have to listen and find out.

Not only is every part of John’s story worthy of a Hollywood movie script, the lessons and life advice he shares are relevant to each and every one of us. Whether you’re interested in his rowing and Ironman success, how he transformed his moral code or how he overcame adversity, this really is a compelling conversation. I know you’re going to be as gripped by John as I was.

But every crisis we face today we have faced—and surmounted—before.
