The PSYCHOLOGICAL TRICKS To Master CONFIDENCE & Crush Fear

    enOctober 27, 2023

    Podcast Summary

    • The Importance of In-Person Communication and Bravery in DialoguePrioritizing face-to-face conversations allows for deeper connections and prevents miscommunication. It is important to embrace bravery in expressing ourselves and engage in healthy disagreements to foster understanding and respect.

Communication has taken a step back in terms of in-person interactions. People have become more comfortable with texting and communicating through social media, which has led to difficulties in face-to-face conversations. While typing and texting may be convenient, it is essential to remember that in-person communication is the best way to truly connect with others. Email and texting lack the depth and nuance that can be conveyed through face-to-face conversations. Additionally, online communication often gives people a false sense of bravery, leading them to say things they would never say in person. It is crucial to check in with ourselves and question if we are being cowards by avoiding difficult conversations in person. True bravery is manifesting in our actions and embodying it daily. Moreover, we need to learn how to disagree and have competitive dialogues without becoming defensive or aggressive. It is about understanding and respecting different belief systems instead of imposing our own on others. Let us prioritize in-person communication, embrace bravery, and engage in healthy disagreement to foster genuine connections and understanding.

    • Effective Communication and Relationship MaintenanceListening and understanding others' perspectives fosters open dialogue, respect, and prevents conflict while avoiding unresolved issues can lead to regret and negative emotions in the long run.

Being direct with someone is not the way to effectively communicate and maintain relationships. Instead, it is important to let people talk and explain themselves, even if you don't agree with them or like what they have to say. By giving them the space to express their thoughts, you can understand their mindset and perspective. This allows for a more open and respectful dialogue where both parties can be heard. Interrupting or correcting someone only leads to frustration and conflict. It is important to be patient and have the willingness to listen and understand. Avoiding conflict and not addressing important matters can lead to long-term regret and build up negative emotions.

    • Overcoming Doubts and Gaining Confidence in Three StepsYou are not alone in your doubts, educate yourself about your goals, and face your fear of failure to gain the confidence needed to pursue your dreams.

Overcoming doubts and gaining confidence requires three key steps. First, know that you are not alone in experiencing doubts and apprehension. Understanding that others have gone through similar struggles can provide a sense of community and reassurance. Second, educate yourself about your goals and aspirations. Being knowledgeable about your field and knowing what lies ahead will help you better navigate through challenges. Lastly, take a real, honest look at yourself and ask how you will feel if you never try. Challenging yourself to be all you can be means facing the fear of failure and pushing forward despite it. By following these steps, you can overcome doubts and ultimately gain the confidence to pursue your dreams.

    • The Power of Laughter and the Complexities of FatherhoodLaughter can bring immense joy to others, but it is important for fathers to prioritize respect and strong relationships. Providing for family is crucial, and material possessions pale in comparison to parental responsibility.

Lewis Howes emphasizes the importance of laughter and how it can be one of the greatest gifts one can give to others. He admires his father's ability to make people laugh and bring joy into their lives. However, the negative takeaway stems from his relationship with his father, as it serves as an example of what not to be as a father. While he loved his father, there was a significant lack of respect and their relationship was not strong. Furthermore, Howes believes that it is the man's responsibility to provide for his family, even in the face of adversity, and his priority lies in ensuring his daughters are taken care of before himself. His experience of becoming a father brought about pure fear and a sense of urgency to provide for his child. Despite the material possessions he has accumulated, he recognizes that they are just dressing compared to the responsibility he feels towards his daughters.

    • Prioritizing Family and Financial SupportLewis Howes believes that as a man, it is his duty to prioritize taking care of his family and providing financial support. He also shares his personal journey of overcoming insecurities and poverty.

Lewis Howes prioritizes taking care of his family, especially his daughters. He believes that providing for them is his number one responsibility as a man. Even if he were to get married, he would feel an even greater obligation to support his wife. This mindset stems from his own experiences witnessing his mother's struggles and the hardships she had to endure. Lewis believes that as a man, it is his duty to ensure that his partner and family do not have to worry about finances. He also shares his personal journey of overcoming insecurities, such as dealing with public perception of his physical appearance and running from poverty.

    • Prioritizing Relationships and Non-Renewable Moments Over Material SuccessMoney can be earned again, but special moments with loved ones are irreplaceable. It's important to prioritize the people and moments that truly matter in our lives.

We should prioritize our relationships and non-renewable moments over material success and temporary opportunities. Lewis Howes shares a personal experience where he prioritized a high-paying gig over his wife's birthday, causing damage to their relationship. He realized that while money can be earned again, special moments with loved ones are irreplaceable. He learned that his mindset of running from poverty was causing him to prioritize material success over his family's happiness. This teaches us the importance of communication, growth, and understanding our values. We should constantly strive to evolve and prioritize the people and moments that truly matter in our lives.

    • The Power of Language in Emotion RegulationBy recognizing that our thoughts and emotions are separate from ourselves, we can free ourselves from their control and embrace our authentic selves.

Our language and how we label our emotions and stories have a significant impact on our well-being. When we over-identify with our thoughts and emotions by saying things like "I am sad" or "I am being undermined," we create a prison for ourselves. By recognizing that these are just thoughts and stories, we can start defusing their power over us. Instead of saying "I am sad," we can say "I notice that I'm feeling sad." This simple shift allows us to separate ourselves from our emotions and stories, realizing that we are not defined by them. We are the sky, capable of embracing all our thoughts and emotions while still being authentic and real.

    • Embracing Truths for Personal GrowthNurturing our inner child, practicing self-compassion, and embracing fear with courage are essential for personal growth and navigating life's challenges.

There are three important truths to remember. The first truth is that there is a child inside of us, no matter our age, and we need to connect with that inner child's needs and desires. The second truth is that self-compassion is not a sign of weakness or laziness, but rather a crucial foundation for personal growth and resilience. Being kind to ourselves allows us to take risks, learn, and thrive. The third truth is that courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the ability to hold fear and move forward with our values. Embracing both fear and courage is essential for navigating life's challenges. So, remember to nurture your inner child, show yourself compassion, and embrace fear with courage.

Ep 10: Motherload of Grief Pt 1 of 2

Ep 10: Motherload of Grief Pt 1 of 2

Word To Your Mothers welcomes guest Maria to the podcast. Maria is a dear friend of host Sondra Doty. Maria helps others by sharing on grief associated with event-based traumas, as well as chronic traumas (special needs, chronic illness and more.)

An educator for more than a decade, Maria is a speaker, facilitator and mentor for women's grief recovery; she's led Biblical finances and discipleship groups, and she's a support group leader for mothers and educators. Maria has been involved one way or another in youth and children's ministry for many decades and has a background in business administration, marketing, theological studies, communications, small group development, and education. She loves to read, write, travel, and have candid conversations with sincere people. Mara has been married for nearly 30 years and is a parent to three teens and young adults.

This episode is the first in a two-part series. In part one of Motherload of Grief, Sondra Doty and Maria start to break down getting honest with our grief. Even the two of them sharing stories and giving life examples brought up many emotions throughout the episode.

There is a way in life to embrace grieving in the now, but many times in our parenting role grieving has to be put aside for the sake of life happenings and keeping our little humans alive. Life keeps happening and we have to pick ourselves up very quickly.

So how do you grieve with hope while caring for children, household, jobs, and your partner? Pushing past the process can be tempting; it's easy to want to get to "the end result" or road of success and healing right not. However, being honest is the first step to sustaining help.

Honesty requires bravery and comfort. Maria shares examples of how she and her family have been walking this out in their own lives. Honesty is necessary for ourselves and others, though we do need to be careful with our honesty-especially with our children.

It's critical to have a healthy perspective of what grief looks like in failure, pain and how to walk that out into wholeness with God. Fear is a huge roadblock to honesty, because of so many emotions that can come up. The unspoken things are the things that can do the most damage.

Action step before listening to part two: Ask yourself weather you've been honesty with the grief in your life. What is or has been the unspoken that needs to come out? Sit down and give yourself the time to ask this question and write down what's grieving you. Maybe it's not something in the present time, but something from the past that is holding you back. Remember, be brave with your honesty! Step into something that can bring healing to those areas.

When we come back we will talk deeper into getting the appropriate help and engaging a community within that.

1945 You Measure What You Treasure

1945 You Measure What You Treasure

If you ever wondered your worth and what you value, look at what's in your heart. You measure what you treasure.

Your actions. Your belongings. All are calculated investments in your life.

Our children watch to see what we treasure. There they measure what our heart shows as treasure.

As we drove up today to pick up my son's cap and gown, pictures were made of each of the students. This is a large school, so there were a lot of pictures.

Driving through the high school campus, you could see what the school treasured, the students.

The hope of the future is in the hands of these children. And this is where the staff and community poured their hearts into.

What do you treasure when it comes to your child?

Because you measure what you treasure.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Measure what you want to treasure!

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." ~ Matthew 6:21

And for some children, the only thing they see that their parents treasure is how they measure.

    1. How do you measure your child? Is it by his grades? Her accomplishments? Or is it by his/her heart?
    2. What are you telling your child by how you measure? Are you painting the picture that they are only worth based on how they can perform? Or do you value them for their heart?
    3. What do you want to treasure that you should measure? Is it their heart and seeing them for who that are and not what they do.

Feeling loved and wanted is a human desire of us all. But when it comes to our children and raising the next generation, we must open our hearts so they can see what we treasure are their hearts too.

Don't let the value and worth of your child be defined by their actions and doings.

Get to know your child's heart, and they too will know yours.

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"
