Psalm 70 When God is magnified you will want to seek Him.

Good morning everyone this morning we are in Psalm 70 and we have a very short and yet powerful psalm of david you know i've talked about this several times because it comes up as we go through david's psalms that it's it's hard to sometimes rightly discern exactly how to apply

something that David's writing to us. And I think all of it can. And there is much of it here that I think is quite beautiful that we should learn and take in. And yet, how do we not being David rightfully interpret what this means for our life? Let me explain. Listen to how this begins. Oh God, hasten to deliver me.

Oh yeah, hasten to my help, meaning like he wants God to come quickly to his aid. Now, there's nothing wrong with requesting from God to come quickly to answer your prayer.

I think that's something that we can learn from David, that he's crying out to God. He's calling out to God and asking God to help him. And yet, let's just think about David's life for a minute. He was taken from among his brothers to be king over Israel. God gave him a special ability. He killed a lion. He slung a stone at the glius head and took him down on the first shot. He was promised to be a king

In Israel and to be an eternal king and from him is the family line of Jesus. David was on the run from the Philistines and got much victory over his enemies. God blessed him in military battle. God was on the run from Saul and yet God would not let Saul take his life. God, as we'll see if you've been going through the three-year Bible journey with us,

Absalom, David's son and David are now being divided and now Absalom is going to turn on David and yet Absalom won't be able to take his life either because David has a special anointing and a special promise from God to be king and it's as though even though David sinned and God in the way of the things of God at times, God was going to fulfill his promise and what God was going to do, God was going to do with David.

In some ways, I can almost see like David feeling like, you know what? Every time I've turned around, God has come through for me. And many times he's come through for me quickly in miraculous ways. He has saved my life. So when he's whatever despair he's in in this particular Psalm, he's like, God,

Help me and help me now." And you know, that's awesome and that he had that kind of faith to turn to God and I think it's good for us to cry out to God. However, is it fair and right for us to have the same expectation for God to come through for me?

exactly in the same way that he came forth from David. I mean, like, I'm not the king of Israel. I was not promised that. I was not promised to have a king forever in my family line. So is it right for every human being who has faith in Jesus to take on the same

expectation of God to deliver me quickly from all of my adversaries like he did David when David had a special promise. And, you know, it's a dual edge thing, you know, because I want us to have faith in God that he can move. And I look back on my life and I see how God has blessed me and how God has provided for me.

But the downside of thinking that the way that God bless David is the way that he's going to bless me is we could have a lot of people disappointed. Like if you think that everything in this life is going to be God's blessing and everything's going to work out and God's going to quickly come to your aid every time you need him,

And he doesn't all of a sudden, then you might be in a situation where you're doubting God or not trusting God or doubting his love or doubting his ability because we have an expectation that like the promise that's upon David's life is upon our life. So, you know, as a preacher,

I'm trying to teach us rightly that yes, trust in God, yes, pray to God. But for me, I already feel like God has done enough. I already feel like God, you know, he did the 10 plagues on Egypt. He parted the sea. He fed the Israelites, you know, in a desert for 40 years and gave them

water from the rock and bread from the sky and quail so that they could eat. And he brought forth a man like David who miraculously has been protected and ultimately he brought forth Jesus from his family line who did miracles.

who said he was going to die and who rose again. And as I've mentioned briefly, he made the blind scene. He made the death here. He made the lame and crippled walk. He showed himself for 40 days after his death in his resurrected form. And then he went on high and sent us the Holy Spirit, a counselor. He's promised us he turned a life like I already feel like

The Lord Jesus Christ has done so much for me and I'm so grateful to him and nothing that happens in my life moving forward should make me doubt what God has already done because nothing that happens in the future can ever change what's happened in the past. So I'm grateful for how God has intervened and acted in my life and blessed me, but I've already seen God do enough and my trust and my faith is in him.

So I'm hoping your understanding as a teacher of the word, how I'm trying to teach today is that, yes, pray to God for help, but realize he's already helped you through Jesus. He's already forgiven you. He's already promised you eternal life. Hallelujah. He's already done enough, but likely he's going to do more for you too in the future.

Then David said in verse two, let those be ashamed and humiliated who seek my life. And many times they were because they were thwarted or destroyed. Let those be turned back and dishonored who delight in evil against me. And yeah, it's a, it's an evil thing when people delight evil against other people. Let those turn back because of their shame who say, aha, aha,

Like I got you and he's like me, they turned back and now the song shifts a little bit and I love what it has to say. Let those be joyful and glad in you, all who seek you.

And I want to say to you that, man, the verse from Jeremiah, you will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart. I think that's such a great verse and that's been so true in my life. I mean, when I began to seek God for the first time before I was a believer,

and reading the Bible and wanting to find God. God, if you're real, I'd like to know who you are. And I began to seek Him. And sure enough, it didn't take long. And I found Him all within the same year. I became saved and began walking with Jesus. And one of the greatest things we can do in this life is to seek to know Him more.

Think this is just a tremendous verse let those be joyful and glad in you all who seek you and you know what my life has been so much more joyful and glad Because of the fact that I've found Jesus and it began when I saw it him hallelujah and let them say continually let God be magnified and I love that Word let God be magnified let let them say continually now think about that and

I look at this in a couple different ways. Like one, see God as high and lifted up. You know, see Him as worthy of worship. See Him who has done miracles all throughout history. See Him who's woven together old and New Testaments to fulfill prophecy. See God as big. See God as the one who created all and created you.

and see Him that way. And the other way that I look at this is to see His Word that way. The sword of the Spirit of God is the Word of God. How we know Jesus today is through the Word and through His Spirit. And I am so grateful for this Word and, you know, maybe those of you who have seen me preach can see me doing this. But, you know, for some people the Bible is

you know on a shelf collecting dust others read it and enjoy it and others revere it and this is why you know this podcast is called Revering the Word because not only do I see God high and lifted up but I see his word

high and lifted up. I see his word as worthy to be revered. And I like to, when I'm preaching about this, I like to elevate it above and hold it up high. I see God's word and God himself as high and lifted up and magnified.

And I'll tell you what, it makes an incredible difference how you view the Word of God, whether you see it as high and lifted up, whether you see it as big, as great, as magnified, because when you see it that way, then you'll wanna honor it. You'll wanna follow it because you revere it.

And one of the greatest problems today and people that are going their own way and doing their own thing and not following God the way they should is really they revere their own opinion more than they revere the Word of God and it throws them off course and it prevents them for living for the King Kings and the Lord of Lords. Oh that we would revere God and revere

His word, His holy word that He's given us, let them say, continue, let God be magnified. Let His word be magnified. Those who love your salvation, you know that word salvation? When you look it up in the Hebrew, it means Yeshua. Who does that sound like? Yes, the Hebrew name for Jesus, because Jesus is the one true God who saves.

And his name comes from, from this same word here, those who love your salvation, but I am afflicted and needy. And David realized he needed God and he, you know, what a great thing to do is to recognize your need. Oh God, I need you, hasten to be. And there he is calling out for God to come quickly again. You are my help and my protector. Oh Yahweh, do not delay. And God came through.

so magnificently in David's life. And he's come through for me too. And he has made me born again. He has forgiven of my sin. He has given me the gift of eternal life. He has empowered me from on high with his Holy Spirit. And now he guides me as I walk out these days upon the earth. Oh, what a blessing it is to have Jesus as our Lord and Savior. May God be magnified. May we seek him with all we've got.

And may him and his word be magnified in our lives. Oh God, thank you for your help and having us come to know you as Lord and savior. God bless you all.
