Good morning, everyone. This morning we're in Psalm 65. This is a psalm of David. Recall that David was a man after God's own heart and was placed in the position of a king. And he was also prem promised that he would have a line of kings in his name that would last forever.
And ultimately Jesus came in that lineage. David had quite a life. Um, it was quite a miraculous life. And despite the many challenges and hardships and people against him, kings against him, sons against him, enemy, armies against him, God had his hand upon David's life and was going to see to it that David received the blessing of the kingship.
and an eternal kingship in his line, no matter what happened. So David saw some incredible things. You know, it's really amazing when you think about David is that despite seeing all the miracles of God and the blessing of God upon his life,
He still fell into sin. I was listening to a message yesterday by Vernon McGee. And isn't it interesting that we should be thankful for a life like David? That's kind of what Vernon said. And I, you know, he's the one who really inspired me, not personally, because I have never met him. He's passed, but inspired me. He had the Bible bus and he taught through the Bible as I am. And he inspired me to do it.
He was saying that, you know, we should all be grateful that God used a man like David and put up with them, right? Despite his sinfulness, I mean adultery, murder, you know, essentially murder with Bathsheba's husband.
But because God had such graciousness with David, you know, that means he can use people like us. And the grace of God is really on display in David's life. Now, as far as the miracle and blessings though of his life, we do have to realize that that was he had a special promise. I mean, God has not promised me to be king and a line of kings in my name, right? So the same
the same provision and promise that David God is not necessarily what we're going to have because we're not him. But in Psalm 65, David is really celebrating a time of blessing and it's really glorious.
To think about God providing for us, providing for mankind. I don't know if you've ever, I can think of a couple times in my life. And even as I sit back now, I'm so grateful to God for how He has worked in my life. And there are times that I can remember where I almost well up in tears saying, God, thank you for bringing me through all of that. And thank you for providing for me and calling me and giving me this opportunity to serve your kingdom.
But you know what, I've lived 53 years on this planet and life isn't always this way where everything's going rosy and everything's going great. And you're just like, Oh, wow, God's just blessing me all the time. But I think that the key is this, as we well up in worship and remember God's goodness,
We need to keep in mind this Psalm even when times are bad, even when we have less hope in what we see around us that we would still have hope in God. So bottle up, so to speak, when you really sense the blessing of God or even when you just look around at creation, you say, God, it's amazing that you did all this, bottle that up so that in the days that are difficult, you don't forget the goodness of God.
So let's figure out what we can put in our bottle today.
To you, there will be silence and praise in Zion. Oh, God. And on Mount Zion, that's where the temple was built. That's where Abraham, believe it or not, sacrificed his son, but God provided a ram in the thicket. It's where Jesus died. It's where the temple was built. God had all of that happen in the same place. It's quite incredible. And to you, the vow will be paid.
O you who hear prayer to you all flesh comes. Think about that for a moment. Think of the prayers of the saints all over the world right now coming to God and he can handle it. Isn't that amazing? Words of iniquity prevail against me. As for our transgressions, you atone for them and
You know, I don't know. We don't know exactly the timing of this, but you may recall after David confessed his significance in he wrote Psalm 51. Again, the Psalms aren't necessarily an order as far as the events of David's life, but
Let's just assume for a moment this did happen after that. He said, as for our transgressions, you atone them. Remember, he said, make my heart clean again. Give me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit in me. He really came to God for repentance and restoration after his sin. That's one thing that made him a man after God's own heart. He knew the grace and mercy of God.
How blessed is the one whom you choose and bring near to you? And David must have really felt that because, you know, he got picked out of all his brothers to be king and God's watching over and protecting them, that he would dwell in your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of your house, your holy temple. And David was the one who ended up bringing the tabernacle and to the Ark of the Covenant, to Jerusalem,
He brought it in with dancing and eventually he's going to make the plans for Solomon to build the temple in the next generation. By fearsome deeds you answer us in righteousness. Oh God of our salvation, you are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea.
You know, just just now is when I log on regarding my the podcast platform.
It's really interesting just to see kind of shows me where people are listening. And I'm trying to think Singapore, someone new from Singapore is listening praise God. Probably one of our church members who has a place in Puerto Rico is listening down there. We have some people in Germany listening Hong Kong.
Praise God, from all the ends of the earth, there are people who worship God and follow Him. Isn't that awesome? Who established the mountains by His strength, being girded with might, who stills the rumbling of the seas, the rumbling of their waves, and the tumult of the peoples, they who inhabit the ends of the earth,
are in fear on account of your signs. You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy. I like that verse 8. It says, they who inhabit the ends of the earth, that's us all over the place, are in fear on account of your signs. And you know, it's good to remember all the Lord has done. It's good to remember the Passover and the parting of the sea. It's good to remember that Jesus got put in a tomb and they rolled the stone in front of them and he
rose again and showed the holes in his hands and the holes in his feet. It's good to know that God brought water from a rock and manna from the sky. It's good to recount the thunder and lightning that happened around Mount Sinai. It's good to recount the signs of God. And may we have a proper awe, fear, and reverence of Him. You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.
What comes to my mind is I had a picture, I don't know if I still have it on my Facebook account, but there was this picture of this glorious sunset when I was visiting my parents a year or two ago in Tucson, Arizona. And I mean, the whole sky was just lit up in this orange
fire it was just one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen and you make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy God has made a beautiful world
You visit the earth and cause it to overflow. And you know, God, God has provided. I mean, think of all the food we feed people on this earth. You greatly enrich it. The stream of God is full of water. And you know, one day there's going to be a stream coming from the throne of God in the new Jerusalem. Hallelujah. You established their grain for thus you established the earth.
Your water, you water its furrows abundantly. You smooth its ridges. You soften it with showers. You bless its growth. And David is overlooking, I think, his kingdom there in Jerusalem, Israel, and just seeing how God has provided for them. And he's just sensing the blessing of God. You crown the year with your goodness and your paths drip with richness. Hallelujah.
The pastures of the wilderness drip and the hills gird themselves with rejoicing. The meadows are clothed with flocks and the valleys are covered with grain. They make a loud shout, indeed they sing. What a glorious moment David is having as he looks over the hills and valleys and sees how God is.
growing the fields and watering their crops and God's blessing is upon them. And sure enough, you know, in David and then in Solomon's reign, God blessed the kingdom of Israel and it expanded and they had prosperity and they had peace.
and they were marveling at the goodness of God, but yet what is important is that no matter how good, no matter how bad things get that we continue to honor God, not always is every day going to look like this, but when we steadfastly love our Lord and bottle up the beauty of His blessings when we have received them so that even in the days of trouble
We have in our bottle, we have in our minds hope that God is there and God has provided. And may we stick with him faithfully all the way to the end because he is worthy in one day that we are going to see the stream that comes from the throne of God and
All of this glory that we see here, it will be overshadowed by the millennial kingdom and ultimately the new Jerusalem that God brings down from heaven and it is going to be glorious. May our hope always be in God. Hallelujah. Bottle it up. Remember him in days of good and in days of trouble. He is there and we have much to look forward to. God bless you all.
