Hi, I'm Joe Salci. Hi, host of the Stacking Benjamin's Podcast. Every week, we talk to experts about saving, investing, personal finance trends. Oh, crypto. Can't do it. You could have done all that research, all the breadcrumbs, and thought this company's never going bankrupt. Foil to get. You never knew personal finance could be this fun. Throw and doubt the gauntlet. I'm bringing it today. I'm only going to be off by six figures. Perfect. And seven. Every boy has a dream, Doc. Every boy has a dream. For sure. Stacking Benjamin's. It's time for news and views with your host Dale Jackson.
very excited to be here. I'm a little foggy because of the vacation. What seems like constant vacations. I'm not I'm not vacationing at the level that everybody else is, but I feel like I got to come here and then I get a day off and then I got to come back and it just it gets you out of land because in this business.
You gotta get a flow going. You got to be able to keep some consistency in order to stay on time for your game. And you can't do that when you're taking vacation all the time and your schedule gets out of the way. I'm grateful that I had some days off. It has been, one thing I've noticed is that it is helpful
on the mental health side to take a break occasionally and get out of that routine and maybe take a day off here and there because I don't take any days off. I'm rarely take vacation and so it's it's been very beneficial and
I'm glad I got to spend some time with my family, celebrate new years and all that jazz. And now we're back in the saddle for good. This is the start of 2025, a new day, a new year. And I'm excited about what's coming up in 2025. Steve West here with me. Steve, how did new years go for you?
Quiet, took a bit of an app, you know, basically just tried to relax as much as possible because, you know, you're familiar with this, even though you took Monday off, it's kind of weird because the last two weeks with Christmas being in the middle of the week and the New Year's being in the middle of the week, you offer a couple of days on the weekend, work a couple of days off a day, work a couple of days off a couple of days, it messes with your head. It's gotta be weird for you because every day you're dealing with somebody different.
That's half the entertaining part of it though, truth be told. It sounds like I had it. Who are we going to get today? Yeah, that sounds like a headache to me. Because again, everybody knows in this industry you got to develop a flow. You got to develop kind of a connection and know what everybody wants in order to put on a
a flawless radio show and having people, you know, pump in and out every day. That's different. It makes it difficult. The good news is though, when we think about whether it's you or whether it's Dixon and Vining here in Birmingham, using Birmingham as our example here for those that are listening in Montgomery and Unspill.
All of our hosts here at Talk99.5, at the very least, and Dale does it as well. If you're going to get a fill-in host, you're going to get somebody who is a professional at it. They know what they're doing, basically. You're not gonna get a greenhorn in off of the street.
The audience has heard the person before like I heard of them. Yeah, I heard coming in was it was Brian Dawson from 18 19. Yeah, I know Brian. I consider him a friend. He's good. He's great at what he does. And then you hear the other staples like Kip Kiefer, like April Marie and Jeff poor. Some of these got you all know who they are. So it's not like they're complete strangers. So that helps. But
You know, the audience likes some consistency at times. Yeah, I'll be the first person to admit, I'm gonna be kinda happy when we get back to Monday. I mean, I've been harassed in nowhere. When you're coming back, when you're coming back, and I'm like, brah, I need a vacation too, cuz. Everybody needs a couple of days off here and there, man. So we are currently on like today's Thursday, tomorrow's Friday. So at the end of this week, will we officially be two weeks with all host off
All two weeks except for me. Yeah, pretty much. So I'm the only jabroni that showed up to work over the past two weeks. And even you took a couple of days off. Come on, man. I got to figure out. I don't think I understand how this vacation stuff works. Like, I don't know if I'm just getting the raw end of the deal and I've got less than every. I don't know. I look at my vacation days and I'm like,
How does everybody else have so many vacation days? Like, you know, obviously I took two days off and it looked like that's all I had, but we got to get to the point where you and I have as many years as everybody else here does. I guess that's it. I just need to negotiate a new contract with six months of vacation per year. That's what I need to take with that. I'll do the Howard Stern deal and just do work three days a week all year long.
And then once a month, I think a whole week off. Best ofs for the rest of the time. That's right. Best of New Year's Eve was fun for us. We did our annual Over the Line New Year's Eve Extravaganza New Year's Eve Part A, as we call it. And if you missed that and you want to check it out, it's available on YouTube and Rumble. You can go click on the live tab. We were on for like three, four hours, however long it was.
brought in several gas people that you've seen on the podcast form or podcast guest and everything else. I did reach out to some of the hosts on this station and only one took me up on my offer for obvious reasons. I mean everybody's on vacation. I didn't even want to bug them. I don't even think I bugged Val. I try my best not to even Mr. German. She's on vacation.
Uh, but I hit up Richard Dixon and he asked him if you wanted to come on the podcast and he said, hell no. I mean, we're just going to do a zoom thing. Like I went and asked him to get out of his house. He's like,
Well, it's a quarter till died and I'm in my pajamas watching trading places. And I'm like, okay, whatever. Then I move on to Leland and, of course, Leland's, you know, across the globe traveling and whatever. He's like, I'm tired. But Dale Jackson, of all people, Dale Jackson,
Uh, stepped up and I barely got in. It was already after midnight and we were about to sign off and he finally responded. So we brought him on for a few minutes. He was at an undisclosed illegal gambling casino somewhere in Alabama. Oh, and, uh, hear about that on Monday.
Yeah, he seemed like he was having a good time. Uh, he gave us a little rundown of the status of the whole mountain broke mom, you know, uh, scandal that's going on. Apparently he's dropped his defamation lawsuit and now he's just going to commence to bashing her on his live streams. I think you did a live stream yesterday where he went through her videos and broke down one after another lie after life.
I will say, because again, I don't want to get involved with it, but I do find it incredibly entertaining. The one thing I do notice is she keeps calling him a MAGA guy. And I'm like, Dale Jackson is not a bad MAGA guy. Like I'm a MAGA guy. Yeah, you are. Dale Jackson is not a MAGA guy. And so I'll take over what it's worth. I'm sure I think that's probably still up on his Twitter, YouTube or whatever. If you want to watch that from yesterday, he wanted me to hop in on it and I'm thinking,
I mean, for real, I don't want to get involved with it. This lady's doing videos and she's like, I'm scared for my safety. And I'm like, I think Dale Jackson should be scared for his safety. Because when we see violence, when we see attacks that are politically motivated, it only comes from one side. You don't see conservatives go out and attack in Democrats based on their political differences. It's the other way around.
So if anybody safety is being threatened, it's probably Dale Jackson. So be on the bill. Look out, Dale Jackson. Watch back. Watch your back. Keep keep eyes in the back of that bowl. They had ears, buddy. You don't want to get, you know, you don't want to get bum rushed.
on the streets of Huntsville. A lot of stuff, a lot of stuff to get to as we always do. Obviously the story everybody's talking about is what happened in New Orleans tragically early New Year's Eve morning and we've had a lot of other stuff happen outside of that and connecting stories. I'm going to do my best over the next four hours or for you in Montgomery and Huntsville over the next 45 minutes to break this down for you.
to put you exactly where we're at. We'll start from early on to where we are now. We'll build the story. We'll break it down and we'll figure out exactly what is going on because at the end of the day, was that the best start to 2025? I don't think so. Not a good start. But we're going to get this thing on track. I firmly believe it. 205-545-9950. That'll get you in on this edition of News and Views.
You're listening to News and News with Dale Jackson.
Partners in views Andrew McLean there was another thing I meant to point out which was on What day was this Steve this was
Was it Tuesday, New Year's Eve? We did the show live from the Over the Line podcast studios and everybody was able to watch the show live. We really had a good diamond. I think that, you know, you always worry when you add an extra wrinkle to a broadcast that something's going to go haywire, but it actually went flawlessly for all four hours that we were on there.
So if you have not added us, maybe those of you in Montgomery or Huntsville, if you have not found this on the podcast on the over the line podcast, look up over the line, Andrew McLean on YouTube. Look for Andrew McLean who on rumble, type it in your, your Apple podcast, your Spotify, wherever you get your podcast, you can find the over the line podcast and
You can hang out with us and it's kind of what we do on this radio show, but it's a little more laid-back It's myself Tony Gump and John Bird and we just we have a good time and we're grateful for that that outlet to use so let's go Where do we start? I dare say weekend
started what would happen early in the morning of New Year's Day in New Orleans. You've all seen it by now. Some of you guys have seen very graphic video on social media, on X and everything else. And it's something that we have, we've seen in this country before. It's almost something that we have become accustomed to.
but it doesn't make it any easier. I think really, if I'm just being honest, my first thoughts when I saw this happen and I spent most of the day yesterday watching it was, I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner because we know between crime exploding in this country, tensions around the world, the border being open and all these other factors that something like this was going to happen.
And it finally did a New Year's Day. It finally did. And we had what 15 people lose their lives in New Orleans, 15 people, many others injured and that number may go up.
you know, we're just a little over 24 hours, uh, from this, this happening. Soon the FBI is going to do a news conference, uh, there in, uh, New Orleans. That is going to happen in a matter of moments. And what it does will, uh, we'll bring that to you. I'm actually seeing somebody walk to the podium now, but it may be, oh yeah, they're bringing the whole crew up there. Let's keep our ear on that Steve, uh, and see if we have
a feed on that front and we'll we'll carry that for you. Not exactly sure who this is speaking. I'm sure it's the FBI themselves. Let's go live to New Orleans. Of those lives that were lost. It is horrific act of violence. I also think
that it's important to remember that what happened yesterday was akin to those who are old enough to remember jigsaw puzzles. And that you would take 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle and you empty the box and you've got to start sifting through those pieces. And you want to start, if you're real good, you start at the corners, right? Try to put your corners together.
And from yesterday to today, over a thousand law enforcement agents and officers, men and women, have been pouring over countless amounts of data, of videos, of surveillances, interviews, tracking down every possible lead.
that came to us, whether it was the New Orleans Police Department, the Louisiana State Police, the FBI, or our other federal agencies. Also yesterday,
We declared, I issued an emergency declaration. That declaration was meant to streamline resources and communications between state, local, and federal partners. And we're seeing the results of it. I also would like to remind everyone that what's going on in the city and the state is twofold.
We've got an active criminal investigation going on while we're also continuing to secure the city in preparation for three o'clock kickoff time for the Sugar Bowl. With that,
I would also remind those who in the city that as far as state resources are concerned, we have the Louisiana State Police, the Louisiana National Guard, which was part of that emergency declaration which allowed us to put an entire MP company on the ground. Those become force multipliers is what we call that in law enforcement in the military. That helps to add to the resources that we have.
Wildlife and fisheries, the Department of Corrections, DSF, DHS, our Veterans Affairs, our probation and parole, all state agencies. And the state agency who has post-certified offices are here in this city to help secure this city.
And so with that, I would like to turn it over to Chris Afarea, who is the Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI's counter terrorism division. Chris. Thank you, Governor Landry. Good morning.
I am FBI Deputy Assistant Director, Christopher Raya. I'm from our Counterterrorism Division at headquarters. I'm also joined by Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge, Alithia Duncan, from our New Orleans office, who you heard from yesterday. I'm here to discuss not only the latest investigative information we have here in New Orleans, but also let you know about other investigative activities outside of the state.
I first, and most importantly, want to send our deepest condolences to the victims of this horrific attack and their loved ones. 14 innocent victims were killed in this senseless attack and at least 35 were injured. We cannot ease the grief people in this community and across the nation are feeling at this time. But rest assured, we stand with you and in support of you.
All the resources, and I'm going to go into that a little bit later. All the resources of the FBI are being focused on tracking down every piece of evidence, every lead, every interview, every potential lead we've got. While I won't be able to answer all your questions today, my goal is to be as forthcoming as possible with you on what we've uncovered so far.
First and foremost, let me be very clear about this point. This was an act of terrorism. It was premeditated and an evil act. This was obviously a critical incident and with that lots of information and tips come pouring in from law enforcement, first responders and the public.
We have been aggressively running down these tips and information. As you all know, that takes time and we will continue to do so until every lead has been followed through on. This investigation is only a little more than 24 hours years old, so 24 hours old. So I ask you to keep in mind that as I go through some of the specifics later.
But at this point, currently, and this is another position, another fact I want to be clear on, we do not assess at this point that anyone else involved in this attack is involved in this attack except for Shamsa Din Jabbar, the subject you've already been briefed on.
a little bit about what the FBI is doing. So we are surging people and assets to the area from across the region and across the nation. Special agents in multiple field offices across the country have been deployed and are assisting with potential aspects of this investigation and following up on every lead.
Additional teams of special agents, professional staff and victim specialists continue to arrive to provide more investigative power and assistance to the victims and their families.
We've also forward deployed a number of our critical incident response group assets, including members of our hostage rescue team, special agent bomb technicians, and crisis management coordinators. In addition, we have deployed more evidence response technicians to continue to process the various scenes that we have.
So far we have received just over 400 tips from the public and that information is being followed up on both here in New Orleans and across the country. Some of the tips are here in New Orleans and there are other tips in other states across the country that we were following up on.
The FBI team and our law enforcement partners here are also reviewing hundreds of hours of surveillance and other video from both the French Quarter and other locations. That's for a timeline.
At this point, investigators believe Jabbar picked up the rented F-150 in Houston, Texas on December 30th. He then drove from Houston to New Orleans on the evening of the 31st, and he posted several videos to an online platform proclaiming his support for ISIS.
There were five videos posted on Jabar's Facebook account, which are timestamped beginning at 1.29 AM and the last at 3.02 AM. In the first video, Jabar explains he originally planned to harm his family and friends, but was concerned the news headlines would not focus on the, quote, war between the believers and the disbelievers, end quote.
Additionally, he stated he had joined ISIS before this summer. He also provided a will contest. FBI and ATF
We have a couple different scenes at the location. As you, we have released the scene at Bourbon Street. That scene has been released. We also have a scene of a mandaville address where we're currently searching that scene right now. FBI and ATF agents have secured that house, and that location is being searched for potential evidence. On New Year's Morning,
Opened fire after ramming through a blocked off area of Bourbon Street, used his truck as a weapon to run over the victims, teams of specially trained victim specialists, again, as I said, are on the ground here in New Orleans assisting survivors of the attack and loved ones of the deceased. We do not believe the public is in any danger around any of these locations.
Three phones linked to Jabbar have been recovered and digital media exploitation is a priority to see what is on the devices and determine if there are any other potential leads. Additionally, we have recovered two laptops and are currently reviewing them for any potential leads. Those laptops were recovered at the Mandeville address.
Evidence technicians will also be going over the F-150 truck Jabbar was driving. As you know, we recovered an ISIS flag from the back of the vehicle. Jabbar declared his support for the terrorist group on social media, as I stated before, as he made his way to New Orleans.
FBI bomb technicians also recovered two IEDs in Coolers, one from the cross section of Bourbon and Orleans Street, and the second at an intersection approximately two blocks away. There were multiple reports of other devices. Those reports turned out to be this information or not actual functioning devices. Those are the only two devices that we've been able to recover that were functional.
Both devices were rendered safe on scene. We did obtain surveillance footage showing Jabbar placing the devices where they were found. Two other items, as I said before, two other items of interest were determined not to be IEDs. A little bit about Jabbar.
Jabbar himself was born in the United States and is a U.S. military veteran. We are looking in everything in his life. While we have interviewed many people who know Jabbar, we still need to talk to others.
Whether you know Jabbar personally, worked with him, served in the military, or saw him in New Orleans or Texas, we need to talk to you. You may not think you have relevant information, but what you know could tie in to one of our investigative leads.
Specifically, we want to talk to anyone who is in the French Quarter on New Year's Eve or early on New Year's Day. That includes people spotted near one of the two IEDs on Bourbon Street,
The IED was inside a cooler and many people stopped and looked at the cooler and then continued on their way. Let's be clear. Again, we do not believe at this point these people are involved in this incident in any way. We want to speak to them as witnesses and want to know what they saw and when. I went down to the crime scene last night. It is very hard.
to put into words what it looked like and how difficult it was to see. Anyone with information can call us at 1-800-CALL-FBI or send digital tips to fbi.gov backslash bourbon street attack. Earlier this morning, Evan's response teams finished their work at the crime scene. Bourbon Street has been turned over to the city of New Orleans.
As you know, there's also an FBI investigation in Las Vegas. We are following up on all potential leads and not ruling everything out. However, at this point, there is no definitive link between the attack here in New Orleans and the one in Las Vegas. And again, I'll preface as I close, I'll preface everything with what I started with in the beginning, which was this is very early in an investigation like this. Again,
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this tragedy and everyone impacted across the country. They remain at the heart of our investigation. I also, although I've only been on the ground here a short time, I also want to express the sincere appreciation for our partners here, which include the U.S. Attorney's Office,
HSI, ATF, the New Orleans PD, the Louisiana State Police, the Governor's Office, and countless others. At this point, I'm going to turn it over to the special agent in charge of ATF here, Josh Jackson.
All right, so we'll bring it on back because we got to catch up with a bring. But a lot of information relayed there from the FBI, which we can break down on the other side. You heard about the timeline on when he originally joined ISIS or pledged his allegiance to ISIS. The videos he posted where he came from, which was used in two New Orleans to commit this attack. The two devices in his truck
and many other things there. We'll break all that down when we get back. We've got a lot to get to, but those, that press conference answered quite a bit of questions that we had going into today that we're unanswered. Does it answer all the questions? Absolutely not. Still a lot of questions out there, but terror attacks in America again and
The one thing I haven't heard is the old line of we had him on our radar, at least yet. We'll see what happens on that front. 205-545-9950, news and views, Andrew McLean. Hang tight.
On the Mac news and views, we still have this press conference going on. I just wanted to get that FBI part in, but Steve, if we could just touch on what the mayor of New Orleans is saying for a moment. To continue to host large scale events in our city because we are built to host at every single turn.
I want to again thank all of those who responded to the FBI's call for information and tips. As you heard, that has been useful. Continue to do that. The investigation is still active and absolutely under the FBI's leadership. We will continue to operate and cooperate as we always have. So I want to also thank
all of our partners for the added resources for victim and crisis management. We know that that's again important. Working with our partner, the Greater New Orleans Foundation, we have set up a fund for our victims' families for not only today, but into the future. As you heard, this is going to be a long process for our people.
So with that, the city of New Orleans, and with all of my confidence, we are ready, and we could not get here again without the unified presence, support, and cooperation. We are stronger together, and I want to say again, thank you so much. Thank you, Governor. All right, so there we go. That's the mayor of New Orleans, likely talking about.
uh, different events, upcoming events, obviously, you know, there was supposed to be a football game yesterday, which has been delayed. That'll go this afternoon, apparently. But before I get into all that, because I think coming up at the top of the line, we will bring in Damien Mitchell and talk a little bit about football and all that kind of stuff. And why not just start off with the scene itself? And again, like I said at the beginning,
there were there's always when these things happen graphic video because everybody got phone on them everybody's recording uh... especially at a time like new years
The videos are are hard to watch. I've seen multiple angles of the trunk speeding down the street. People getting hit the aftermath. There's one guy in particular that was interviewed and give me a cut one, Steve. There was one young guy that was interviewed that was there for New Year's. Not sure if he's a local guy or what.
but he was with a group of people. And after the truck came through, he noticed that one person was missing and he relayed and like how it all went down to the news outlet that was asking him about what he saw, what happened to them and everything else. Listen to this. He's coming up all onto the sidewalk and all that, but by that time we had already made it inside the divvy.
is what I thought, until once we get inside the David and the car passes, I turn around to like, look who's all in here because there's supposed to be three of us. I turn around to the who's all in here and I don't see my friend.
And I just start screaming and yelling and I'm like, nah, nah, where are you? And I turn and I lick in the street and her right leg is flipped like horror movie style over her back and it's just blood.
Just awful, awful images coming out of that. We do now have Jeff Landry, who is the governor of Louisiana, taking questions from the press. We probably need to carry this as well. And Steve, just give me a heads up when we need to take a break. Here's the governor of Louisiana. And to entertain ourselves and to be with our friends and with our families, because that's who we are. Louisiana invented hospitality.
The people in this city care for each other. And believe you me, we care about each one of the lives that were lost in the city of that. We will never forget them. But it would be a tragedy if we let their losses be snuffed out because of fear. This city will be back
We'll be open to family and friends and loved ones who want some time to relax from the pressures of life. And so today we're going to have us a sugar bowl. We're going to enjoy ourselves.
We're going to keep those, again, who have lost loved ones in mind. And we're going to get on to the business of this city and this great country. With that, I'll take any questions. Governor, this is for you and the Assistant Director. The message has really changed since yesterday. Yesterday, the FBI said that people should be vigilant.
that you do not act alone, that you likely had help. And now you're coming out the very next day and saying, you are the lone wolf, everything is safe, the game moves on, everybody happens with time. How can you be so sure just 12 hours later? Well, we're gonna bring him up. All right, but here's what I want. I want to remind everyone, like I worked it. I was a definition. All right, I worked in a jail, I worked on the street, I worked on the interstate, I served warrants, I can tell you. Look,
In today's world, I get it. Information, we get information like that. Everybody lives in a 15 second TikTok video. We think that life operates like it does on our phones. And it just doesn't. Information changes. In fact, that's why we ask the media for patience. We get information. Like I said, putting it, no one dumps a thousand piece jigsaw puzzle and puts it together in five seconds.
Okay. And, and what I would tell you is that I would rather, I appreciate the fact that what we did was we're under promising and over delivering today. And I think that's important. Um, and I want to remind, I want to remind some, look, because over the last decade law enforcement has ticketed on the chin unfairly.
And there are great men and women serving in the FBI, in ATF, in Louisiana State Police, in New Orleans PD. Our sheriffs have been unbelievable in this. And I tell you, they want to protect you all. And we have to trust them. And sometimes the information we put out, we end up finding out that it may be incorrect. But guess what we're doing here is something I think is important. It's called transparency.
I know something may change again. Here's what I do know though. Right now, this is one of the safest places on Earth. That doesn't mean that nothing can't happen.
thank you governor and and tackle exactly i think the governor put it put it eloquently as as could be said in a lot of these instances i also had the opportunity to put a boss bomb and i will tell you this is almost okay so that they're bringing the fbi uh... deputy director christopher by the name is christopher raya we just lost we just got rid of one christopher ray and then we've got a christopher raya as the fbi uh... deputy assistant director take that for what it's worth
I gotta take this break, but I'm gonna keep my eye on this and if they continue to take questions because in a rare moment, the media brings up a great point. How could you be so sure just a few hours after you told us that there's more people out there that now this guy is for sure a lone wolf
That's going to have a lot of people scratching their head as to how that conclusion came to be. We'll break it down when we get back. If there's more questions, we'll go back to New Orleans, but it's news and views right here.
back out of news and views, Andrew McLean filling in. I will be back in for the very vacationing Dale Jackson tomorrow as well. I found that out just a couple of days ago. Jake, can we double check that yet again? Make sure that I'm staring right at it. Yeah. Fortunately for you 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Just checking. Yeah. I know you were hoping it was going to change, but unfortunately it didn't. Yeah. I mean, you never know. Things can change or whatever. I just, whatever.
It's fine. Fine. Fine. I love filling in for Dale Jackson.

What do we say his name was? Shem Sundin Jabar that he drove from Houston to New Orleans. He's from Houston. There's apparently some sort of real estate agent down there. I guess on the way, maybe when he got there or before he left, he posted five videos to social media pledging his allegiance to ISIS and says in one of the videos,
that he planned to hurt family and friends, but was afraid that the media wouldn't focus on the war between believers and non-believers. So he wanted to just go after
random citizens who he probably considered non-muslim aka non-believers as far as he's concerned he joined Isis before the summer so we're not talking about a guy who has been radicalized for years and years and years we already know at this point that he's an american citizen he in fact was in the military
And he seemed to be somewhat of a normal guy over the years, but something happened in 2024 before the summer that got him radicalized, whether that be online or whatever. As far as the act itself, they say the FBI says and take what the FBI says with a grain of salt. There are only two explosive devices
and those were found within his truck. The reports from other devices being placed throughout the French Quarter or throughout New Orleans that that's apparently not a thing now. Those didn't exist and never existed and apparently, apparently, there's no other people involved in this.
I take everything that the FBI says with a grain of salt you should too. Think of what they've done to you and your people over the past four years. I'm out of here.
