TLDR: Explores 5 crucial life categories often overlooked for a fulfilling life: spirituality, physical health, finances, giving back, and hobbies. Provides exercises, tips, and personal stories to assess progress in each area to achieve happiness, presence, well-roundedness, and overall flourishing.

In Episode 729 of the Mind Your Business podcast, hosts James Wedmore and Jennifer Finley conclude their three-part series on living an extraordinary life. This episode focuses on key life categories—often overlooked—that contribute to overall fulfillment and success, both personally and professionally.
Spirituality: The Foundation for Extraordinary Living
- Defining Spirituality: The hosts emphasize the importance of spirituality and its role in personal growth. It’s about connection with a higher power, whether that’s God, the universe, or simply one’s inner self.
- Assessing Spiritual Growth: Listeners are encouraged to evaluate their spiritual practices—meditation, gratitude journaling, or community involvement—on a scale from one to ten. Consistent daily habits foster spiritual growth.
The Importance of Physical Health
- Health as a Non-Negotiable: Good physical health is essential for living an extraordinary life. The hosts recount personal health journeys, highlighting diet changes and detox protocols. Prioritizing physical well-being enhances everyday experiences and work performance.
- Critical Health Practices: Regular assessment of dietary choices and understanding their impact on health are crucial. Listeners are urged to consider what might be harmful in their diets and make adjustments accordingly.
Financial Freedom: Beyond Business Cash Flow
- Distinction Between Business and Financial Freedom: The conversation points out that financial independence stems not just from business profits, but from wise money management. Investing strategically can lead to long-term wealth.
- Creating a Financial Plan: Host insights underscore the importance of having a sound financial strategy, making it clear that good financial health alleviates stress and enhances overall well-being.
Purpose and Contribution: Finding Meaning in Life
- Giving Back: Engaging in activities that help others can add profound meaning to one’s life. The hosts share examples of volunteer work and charitable contributions, emphasizing that giving fosters a sense of abundance.
- Impact on Happiness: They discuss how acts of service can increase overall happiness and life satisfaction, supporting the notion that contributions need not be large but can be impactful.
Extracurricular Activities: Nourishing the Soul
- Hobbies and Interests: Having interests beyond work is crucial for a balanced life. Engagement in extracurricular activities—whether it’s music, sports, or crafts—fuels creativity and joy.
- Five-Minute Principle: To encourage engagement, the hosts suggest committing just five minutes a day to hobbies or interests, demonstrating that small steps can lead to significant life changes.
Conclusion: Evaluate and Act
Throughout the episode, listeners are encouraged to assess their current state in these five areas and identify where improvements can be made. Each category serves as a bucket that, when filled, contributes to a well-rounded life.
- Key Takeaway: Living an extraordinary life requires a holistic approach, integrating spiritual, physical, and emotional health, financial savvy, purposeful actions, and fulfilling hobbies. When balanced, these areas can enhance business success and personal happiness.
This podcast episode is a powerful reminder that success is not solely measured by business achievements but by the quality of life one leads. By focusing on these critical life aspects, individuals can experience increased fulfillment and happiness, leading to thriving both personally and professionally.

You're listening to the Mind Your Business podcast. In today's episode, we dive into part three in our series on engineering an extraordinary life. So stay tuned.
Hi, I'm James Wedmore, and with 17 years online, I've built my business to over $12 million in sales per year. And this is the first non-business business podcast that shows you how to apply the principles of spirituality, energy, and mindset to grow your business beyond your wildest dreams, all from the inside out. This is the Mind Your Business Podcast.
Hello, what's up, everybody? James Wedmore here. And Jennifer Finley. And you are listening to the Mind Your Business podcast. Thank you so much for tuning in. This is part three in our series that Jenny and I are continuing all about giving you. You know, I love just talking about other things outside of business because I think it's all interwoven interconnected and assist you in business. So we love to dive into these different topics. We've been continuing on this series. If you've been following along on how to have just an incredible life. And I think
you know, this life of ours is so short and sweet and we should really make such a concerted effort and we've been getting tremendous feedback from you guys. So we wanted to continue on with the third and final part in our trilogy of engineering your extraordinary life and we're going to dive into that today and give you some exercises, some tips and pointers.
and really want you to listen from a couple of places. Number one, you know, there's always areas of improvement for both Jenny and I, yes, and that's part of what makes it extraordinary. It's not that everything has to be perfect and rosy and polished, but that you're aware of things and that you're equipped with the proper tools to improve areas in your life. And I think like the metaphor I like to give is I grew up in a small town, they're going to be
Because I'm sure this is like most towns, cities probably. But I always noticed that my whole life, there was always construction somewhere in the town. Like they're always working on a road. They're always installing something, removing something. And I remember people would always say, oh, when's this going to be done? It's like never. Because maintenance is in perpetuity.
And by the time you finish this road and you get to work on that, I got to get back to working on that one. And I think part of that idea of living a more rich life is understanding that things are going to need and require maintenance and phases of your life. And so we want to dive into that. We did take a week off on the episode. We apologize. It was all Jen's fault.
I'm just kidding. It was not. We did have actually three retreats last week. That was insane. And it's just so much time that we both kind of looked at each other and said, we would be trying to wedge this episode in and force something when you're tired at the end of the day or you got to get up extra early to do it. And I just love giving yourself permission to be like, it's okay. Just give it another week. It's not the end of the world.
you know, being okay with that balance. So we did three retreats. The first one was our coaches retreat. So for those of you guys who know, we were on a program with some extraordinary coaches and we spent a couple of days with them coaching them in their business, giving them some other coaching tools, just having fun, connecting, networking, and we even recorded an episode together. That's going to air next week. I'm really excited about that because we thought about this and we just gave them all one question. Some of them have been coaching with us for like our entrepreneur clients for like six, seven years.
And so obviously you do the same thing every year.
with a new group of students, you start to notice the patterns that emerge. The common traits and qualities of the most successful students. And so they each took the mic and shared for about five to seven minutes about their unique, and it was all different. Everyone had a different answer, which I love. Quality trait characteristic of the successful clients that they've noticed that have just exploded over the years. So that's episodes coming next week. I think you're gonna really love it because you get to hear a lot of different perspectives and a lot of simple things that you wouldn't even attribute.
as well. I think that's a common theme is the things that you don't think are important are actually the most important variables. And that's why success seems to elude so many or be like a secret because it's like right under your nose. It's the little things that have such a different impact. So we had our coaches retreat and then we went into our executive retreat. Our executive retreat is the retreat just for the executive leadership team within the company. There are four people on that team or in that retreat.
myself as the digital CEO, Jenny, as the, what is your role? My role? Yes. I'm the head of the growth team. She is head of the growth team. I knew that. You know, I knew that. It's like I forgot. So Jen is the head of the growth team. The growth team is responsible for.
Leads and sales. There it is. Leads. I was like, so confused that he keeps looking at me for these answers. Well, I just wanted you to chime in, so it's not just all me talking. I know she knows these things. I'm not quizzing her. So Jenny is in charge of leads and sales. When the opposite end of the spectrum is our fulfillment team. The fulfillment team or the head of fulfillment in that department is responsible for everything once the sale happens. Pass the point of sale. Pass the point of sale.
In between, that is our operations department. Operations, all the stuff that you have to do in business that no one ever wants to talk about when they sell you on the idea of starting a business. Legal taxes, HR, the logistics of operations in an office building and all that fun stuff. And so we have basically three departments and myself, that makes four. And we spend two days together really looking at different actually areas than we do in the team retreat. It's a lot of like how well the team works together.
operates together, functions, the personnel, the processes, and everything in between. So it's a really productive and important vital two days. And we do this every single year. I mean, I'm not adverse to doing it even twice a year because I think it's just so valuable. Then we fly in the rest of the team. We're all in Sedona, and that's the entire team. And it gets to be a little bit more on the growth, ideas, creativity, innovation. And I got to say,
that team retreat that we just wrapped up. That's why we're back in the studio. That team retreat, I had more ideas and more great ideas come from our team than we've ever had in the history of the company.
Like it was I was so there's so many words. I was impressed. I was blown away. I was just totally surprised. I did not expect that and I can say emphatically that the team that we have today is at a whole nother level and I'm so grateful for them so impressed by them like just the
intuitive creative out of the box thinking that they all bring to their role connected to the vision of the company. And the eye on our client and what came out of that. I was like, there are more hell yes ideas that came out of those two days than we could implement over the next two years.
And that's called a good problem, my friends. So for my digital CEOs that are growing and getting to multiple six figures or seven, you got a few people on your team. It's so important that you have this time with your people to just reflect. We spent time reflecting, acknowledging the team.
for the wins they've had, and then starting to talk about what we want to create this year. And we have so many exciting things on the docket. So many things. We have a new product, maybe technically, depending on how you slice it, two new products coming out this year. I am very excited. There is an idea on the table that I document the entire process of creating and launching this. So if I get enough people saying, hell yes, I want to listen to James as he works through how to create the product, how to position the product, how to release the product. I'm going to be doing a beta launch to it.
We are so pumped for this. If you want to know and listen here on the podcast as we document that journey, I'm more than happy to do it if that's what you guys want here. So you guys got to send me some DMS. If I get enough guesses, we'll definitely do it. Otherwise, I'll just, I like to lock myself into the cave that is my office for two weeks and flush it all out and get it done. So, you know, it's a little more work to document it.
Do the whole story origin journey with you guys, but I think it would be really fun thing. So if two new products coming, we are building out our podcast studio and finalizing that in quarter one. We have ideas with like new events. That's like technically a whole nother product that are in the works.
Basically just some new tech and software that we're using that's going to actually be forward facing to our clients and customers as we get going, like innovating a whole new iteration of business by design, which is coming. This is a lot of really cool stuff to be excited about for 2025.
So with that being said, thank you for listening as we share our updates. Let's dive into part three of creating an extraordinary life. Do you remember the first episode, Jenny? We talked about the importance of the three areas to have love and relationships. Yes. In the part two episode, we had a big conversation about like really understanding self and how important no thyself is.
and even how to like hack your own brain and understand how you tick. We talked about values and whatnot. But today we're gonna look at different areas of your life, like understanding there's these different buckets or categories to your life.
and we will create these distinctions, these labels, and I think it's an opportunity for everyone listening to assess and evaluate, because I don't know about you, but I've definitely been guilty of this in my life, where if an area of my life is suffering or not at an optimal level, I think it's actually more easy to avoid it.
and then doubled down on an area in your life that is working. That's what I found myself in years and years ago. This is back in like 2018, 2019, and when certain areas of my life was not doing well, I just was like, oh, but business is. So I'll just spend more time here. It was like becoming more of like a workaholic than anything. And that's creating a lopsided life. And I remember actually Jenny and I, when we went to Tony Robbins together back in 2009,
The way that Tony used a metaphor that I really liked was if you imagine all these areas of your life like a spoke on a wheel and If some areas are really strong and solid, but some are not so you color them all the way in Or you strengthen the spoke or the spoke is complete, but some are not the faster you move in your life the harder it is for that wheel to turn and The quicker you're gonna crash
Or if you think of it like one area is not full of any air and the rest is, that's still a flat tire. That's still a flat tire. You come around to that area. You start moving 100 miles an hour and it's going to not go well, right? Yeah.
But before we get into looking to these five areas, we want to talk about two other things, which is the first is happiness. And I think at the core of this, you're living an extraordinary life when there is happiness present. And as our shaman always says, happiness is the way, not the destination. Now, happiness is the way.
To me, can be interpreted in a lot of ways really beautifully, but first it's a choice. It's a choice to find yourself in a state of happiness. It's a choice to continue to find gratitude for what is.
When you have goals and dreams, which are wonderful to have, are you looking at the absence of those goals? Or are you looking at the choice to be grateful for what is right now and excited for what's to come? So happiness is a choice. And it's something that alludes a lot of people because
They condition their happiness. And I think we're all guilty as humans as doing that and say, well, I'll be happy once my business does this or once I have this day off or once this client leaves, et cetera, et cetera. And sometimes, okay, great. So then do that, do those things, fire that client or decide to take the weekend off or take an action, but begin to notice where in your life
You have conditioned happiness. You're waiting for happiness to be present once something else changes. The real risk for that is when you want the things outside of you to change before you can choose happiness, you give your power away to things that you have very little power over. So you're
going through life, not happy. And so I find this balance in my own life where, hey, if there's a thing I need to make a change, and this is not working, this habit, this routine, this environment, this person, this experience is pulling too much for me, then I need to do my job to eradicate that change, that enforce the boundary, stop that. But I also want to make sure I'm mindful that I'm not giving away that power to condition my happiness based on that individual or that external factor.
It's a faulty way to think to when you think about it from a more of a macro level of people saying, I'll be happy when, because what you don't see when you're setting yourself into the future, like if you're imagining a future of, well, when I get this thing or I have this outcome or I have achieved this result, then I'll be happy. What you don't often also project in that future when you're imagining it
is all of the difficulties and challenges and new obstacles that come with that new future. And that's the thing is that you're looking forward to the future and you're picturing when I have the business that I've always dreamed of, or when I have the relationship that I've always dreamed of, or when I have the circumstance, whatever it may be. And then once you get into that circumstance, you're presented with an entirely new set of problems.
refunding, judging you business, a team member issues, yeah, all that stuff. Yeah. And one of the, one of the, like a tiny little example that one of my best friends, Jen and I were discussing just recently, because just recently, Jen went through the whole experience of being pregnant and then having the baby. And she and I had this cool conversation towards the end of her pregnancy, where she was getting to the point where she was like,
I just want to have this baby because you get to the end of pregnancy and you're like, you're tired of your back hurting of being uncomfortable of losing sleep. And she and I had this really funny conversation where I said, that's the most common thing that you hear women say is I'm just ready to not be pregnant to have this baby. But then when you have the baby, then you have this whole other experience that opens up that's like,
No sleep. Now you got to feed the baby. You know what I mean? And it's like kind of you. It's like the Indiana Jones switching of the bag with the idol where you're like, you're just exchanging one level of discomfort for another in some ways. So it's like when you're projecting into the future of, oh, I really, really want this thing when I get this thing that I'll be happy. If you aren't really present with, what am I grateful for now? What do I have now?
including all of the obstacles and challenges that come with it. Well, if you think about it out there in the future, whatever you get, that's just another variation of like, now you have this thing and it has things that it needs from you. And it has new obstacles and new challenges. And for every time someone thinks that, the grass is greener, there's someone who's already standing where they are. It's thinking the same thing. I need to get to this next thing.
This is such a fascinating concept because how many business owners have we seen that they had that desire, they had the desire and then they get it. They hit their goal and they're like, I don't think this is what I want to be doing because they didn't realize what you're talking about is I have to be doing those things as well to maintain the business and I don't actually enjoy them. Yeah, I read a quote today or heard one. Actually, my mom said it to me. It was like a clip and it said, the grass isn't always greener. It's just a different shade of green.
And I thought like that's such a good metaphor for the way that we think about this insatiable desire to always be getting something bigger and better that we don't have. And that's why gratitude so important and key in happiness because I think that gratitude and growth are the two components that really make happiness palpable.
And you have to be present with both because if you are grateful for what you have and you continue to strive and see progress towards growing, I think it's just in our, it's like a makeup of our being is to expand and to grow and to achieve and to reach. And that that's part of fulfillment is growing. And I think there's something connected to happiness is connected to seeing progress because as you, yeah,
As you progress, then you start to feel that level of gratitude and happiness. But those two things, I think, they're separate and they have to be firing at the same time in order for you to experience true happiness. It's really interesting what you said about that scene progress thing because the sneaky part of that is the amount of clients I've seen that they're ego or they're thinking brain.
will hide the progress they've made from them. And I see this all the time, like, I'm spinning my wheels. I'm stuck. I am starting from scratch. I have nothing to show for it. We hear those things all the time. And any time I've ever coached somebody, I can call bullshit on that and force them, lovingly, to find progress and evidence of growth.
And so it's a really interesting cause you're battling yourself in that regard where you're so right. Like when you're like, I'm making progress. I'm doing it and I'm doing it. It does feel good. It feels like I'm on the right path. I'm doing the right things, et cetera, et cetera. But there's a part of you that wants to keep you safe, doesn't want you growing, doesn't want you living into the unknown unfamiliar of a brand new world that you're envisioning and stepping into. So we'll say, no, you're not really growing. Come on. Stop fooling yourself. Look at you.
Nothing has actually changed. And I see that all the time. So you have to force yourself. So if Jen is so accurate about this connection with the light, good, positive feelings and frequency of scene progress, you have to force yourself to find the evidence of that progress. And I think that's a really great habit. You have to kind of say that you have to assume like, there's a part of me that's trying to trick me and keep me stuck. And it will change reality for me to force me to say, there's no evidence of this. There's no progress when there always is.
Yeah, like not to get, I'm going to get like really esoteric and woo woo for a minute. If you think about like, what's the whole point of being in a body? If you are a spirit going through a human experience, not a human having a spiritual experience, let's just say that for the sake of argument that you are a little drop of God in a human body and that you are the spark of from the source of the universe and you are spirit, but you're in this 3D form.
So what if the whole mechanism of choosing to be in a body is choosing to go through this 3D reality game of growth? Because without the 3D container of reality, how are you measuring and marking growth? If you're just floating in the everything of all that is where there is no time.
Right, you're just you're just you're just part of what is but if you're in a body now you're operating within this Construct or you know like a video game of like this 3d reality where there are rules and there's laws and there's cause and effect and so the obstacles that are presenting themselves are Showing up as an opportunity where if you get to in the gutter of
Look what's happened to me. Look where I am. I don't have what I want. Then you're missing the real point of it all, which is to say, who do I need to become in order to get from A to B or what type of person would easily be able to navigate this?
And then you are meant to expand and conquer it, but without that 3D construct, if it was just like, I think something and then it shows up and there it is, but what if both exist simultaneously? And so it's like, that's what manifestation is, is tapping in to that law of like you are quantum. And in the quantum, you think it appears, but then there's also this container of reality that you have to operate inside of, which is the physical laws of the universe.
meaning that you have to take action. It requires growth. But like, what if you knew that coming into a body, you knew that this means I'm going to feel separate from what I know that I am. And yet I'm going to have to expand and grow. And the whole point, it's expansion and growth. And the expansion and growth is only going to happen inside of a container of limitation. So as soon as I
start to experience limitation. I'm going to have to expand and remember who I am. And then when I remember who I am, I grow and I expand, but then I'm going to experience limitation because I'm in the 3D world. So it just oscillates between these two realities. And if you remembered that, you would be happy no matter where you are in that journey. Yeah.
And I think that's the point is seeing life through that higher aspect. Yeah. So it's like it's both. It's limited and limitless. Yes. I know. And you're finding your way through that. I think that's beautiful. And if you're doing that and you're playing that game, I think it's a lot easier to be happy.
you were saying, you know, the link connection and correlation with happiness and progress. And I also think the link with growth is there. If you're looking at everything through the lens of like, man, I'm learning so much. I'm becoming such a better version of myself. Like how could you not go through something challenging and painful? Like it exists. And I've been there myself or something can be really uncomfortable, really painful, and you're still grateful. You're like in the dark tunnel, but you see the light. You are the light and you're like, yeah, this too shall pass, right?
The last thing I want to say on this before we dive in that came up as I was listening to you speak is I shared a little distinction and exercise with some of our coaches and some of our next level members, which is this idea that once you're clear on something that you want, instead of conditioning your happiness to it, like once I get my business to this level, once I'm making this amount of money, and once I do this launch, help this amount of people, then I will be enough, happy, successful, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Take the vision and understand that when that vision is now in reality, that there exists a process. It's not like winning the lotto. I think people don't get that. They just want some cash winful without doing the work. It's like you're not doing anything and just money in your bank account. It's like, no, there's something you're doing.
and you're saying you keep doing. You know, if we sit here and say we're making over 12, 13 million a year, I'm not just like cashing a check and then bouncing around, skipping on the beach, right? Like we're working, okay? And it's an intentional type of work. So that's a process. So the name of the game is bring that process into your now, right now.
And this to me is such a, I have to kind of bucket this into the online expert coaches space.
But that process is you helping creating content, teaching, coaching. So do that now. Now hear me out and Jen, you tell me if this is making sense. So that's what you'll be doing when you're making a million dollars. That's what you'll be doing when you're making 10 million dollars. That's what you'll be doing when you're making 500,000. And you're not there yet and you're going, boo-hoo, why not me wins at my turn and I'll be happy with. But that's what you'll be doing then.
Exactly. So do it now. Yes. And that's the thing is I see a lot of people, they're not doing it now. They're sitting there behind the screen, in the cave, thinking about everything, creating all the things and having the ideas and doing the learnings and the teaching, you know, they're learning everything and I'm absorbing everything and I got more to learn and I got more to figure out, I got more to plan out.
I've planned out all this. Look at Jenny, I've planned out this and I've planned my plan to a planning plan. Look at all my plans, but they're not doing the thing. Yeah, they're not out there. They're not teaching. They're not coaching. They're not helping. And anyone listening, I mean, come at me. Anyone of you listening could be doing that right now today. You could press pause right now and say, you're right. I'm going to go coach someone and teach somebody help somebody. And I love bring me your arguments for your limitation. Bring me your excuses, but there is none. There is none that is not just
Fear distortion limitation and set another way BS excuses because it's that to use a different metaphor just to make it super clear if in my mind this is what I pictured it's like if you are learning to run a faster mile every day you wake up and you run that mile.
But eventually you're running a six minute mile, not a seven minute mile, but running the mile didn't change. It's how you ran it that changed. So like you still get up and you make the effort and you run. And some people are not running and expecting them to run faster. And it's like, but you're not running. So
Like what we did at our team retreat is a great example. It's like we're looking at what are we rinsing and repeating, but we're doing the exact same thing, but we're refining it. So it's like rents refine repeat and in that refining, then it elevates the performance because now there's pieces where it's like.
We did like this huge copy overhaul and a huge ad overhaul over the last two years where over the last two years, every single piece of copy, every picture, every creative element, every ad, everything got touched in some way and edited and upgraded.
So going into this launch, we have a new position where you said, we may not even need to record new content. We might just want to tweak what we have or like, let's not just keep creating new emails for the sake of new emails. We did that last year. And that's kind of the beauty of this business is that
you can do something one year and then you repeat it the next year and sometimes you don't change anything or you change a little something and it gets a lot better. But that like, I'm going to be doing something totally different at a million. It's like, no, you don't have to do that. It can be the same thing, but just it's just making more. I think what I'm getting at here is, you know, it's really hard. It's hard doing what you do for so long because
You know, you get a lot of people that want what you have, they wanna make the money, they want all that type of stuff. And when you start interacting with them, you start coaching with them, you can see pretty clearly why they don't have it. And sometimes you just hold your tongue, you don't say anything. Sometimes you do, and you say something, you point it out, and they get all upset at you and how dare you. And, you know, I don't take it personally. It's just like, truth hurts sometimes. And there really is, like one of the struggles I have is like, I really wanna help.
And you have to face a fact that someone can really only at the end of the day help themselves. You can give them everything they need in terms of tools and plans. And a lot of people just won't do it. And what you see is a common thing, which is why I think we're spending some time here is the people that want the end result, but aren't willing to do the work. And you must, must, must love the work and fall in love with the work. And the work is that process that you would be doing even when you have the end result.
I think falling in love with it is the key because I what just came to mind was two things. One was when I was teaching fitness. I remember someone asking me like, how do you stay consistent with working out?
Over the years my answer started to be you need to find the workout that you're just totally in love with and you want to go do and that doesn't matter what it is but that'll help you then you're not using your Discipline to go and do it. It's just like a pleasure to go and move you know and that's evolved for me over the years and then the other thing is a lot of people ask me how because you and I have a very clean diet and
And I don't know if anybody asked you about this because they're probably like, oh, James, just over there eating carnivore. Only eating lots of steak, but people ask me all the time how I'm so strict on my diet. And it's that I love health facts.
And I love how I feel when I eat healthy and I actually delight in one more thing that I'm eliminating. And I'm like, oh, just found out the truth about soda cans, nothing more than a can. You know what I mean? And that's a pleasure for me versus like discipline and hard work. Right.
which is like, now I got to be the martyr and the masochist. But here's an example of this. I just sort of like really hit this home and someone comes to you and says like, what's, you know, and I go, what's your goal? And they say, I want to make a million dollars. What should I do? And you're like, okay, I really want you to start creating content. Whether it's podcast or let's do reels ever and they go, I hate creating content. Yeah. So just pause for a second. Let's just get this straight. You hate creating content. Yeah.
Yet you want to make a million, oh yeah, how? Selling my own liquor. So you want to make a million dollars creating content as a business and you hate creating content. So there's a million ways to make a million dollars, but you've chosen to do it the way that you hate doing it.
Cool. Good luck with that. Hey, you should do that. No, I don't want to do ads. I don't want to do all these things. And that's the thing is if there's a million ways to get to a number of money in your bank account.
Not one way, not the quickest way, not the fancy secret shortcut way, a million easy ways, hard ways, challenging ways, medium ways, whatever. You must, must do the way that you love. You must. And I am quote unquote successful in this industry and business probably down to one reason. I absolutely love it. It's a Saturday today and Jen and I, we took a day off to rest on Friday.
after our retreats, three retreats in a row. And we're like, we're tired, we relaxed, all day as it was amazing. We came into the office Saturday today, had our nice morning, let's record. And we're not sitting here going, oh, this sucks. I got to work on a Saturday because it isn't work. It's enjoyable. And we took Friday off anyway, so you can make your weekends in the middle of the week if you'd like. But the point is, people have asked me over the years, James, what do you do with like writer's block? I've never had writer's block. You know that I've never had writer's block.
Never once have I ever had writer's fun. I've had indecision about which piece of content I want to share. I'm like, I don't know, I want to do both. I've never had writer's fun. How do you do 700 episodes? How do you have hundreds of YouTube? How do you have post after post after post email after email, course after course product after product, coaching call after coaching call? Two reasons. Number one is because you love it. When you love something and you do it over and over again, you're going to get really good at it. And then you're going to love it even more.
And it's helping people. That's fantastic. But because you're doing it, and this is what I want to get, because you're doing it, because you're in the process, it generates more content. That's why I never have writer's block. Because I did three coaching calls last week, answered 20 conversations, coaching with peers on, you know, we have our mastermind clients are texting me. One of them is at least texting me almost every single day. So we're having conversations there. Really? Oh, yeah. So I mean, I was just talking to someone just yesterday.
content for days. Someone just asked you a question. You get into a conversation with people and stuff comes up. Oh, that's a podcast episode. Oh, we can talk about this. Oh, it's never ending, but you're in it. You're in it. So it generates more of it. And that's why this phrase I've always loved is you can't move a parked car. So get the car in gear, get in action, stay in action.
and it perpetuates more action. Okay. So I think we've nailed that point home a thousand percent. I want to look at five areas in your life outside of business that as we point these out, here's what you're going to do. We're going to talk about each one. We're going to ask you a few questions and I want you to rate them on a scale of one to 10 in your life. No one has to share this. You don't have to share this with anybody. This is private and personal, but this is about looking at things and when the more uncomfortable you feel the more you need to look at it.
One to 10 level of fulfillment. Ten is like fulfillment happiness. It's you're doing good. I don't know. It's it's just on the positive ends, right? Okay. I also always challenge people to never make it a 10 because there's always place where it can be improved. We're going to start and none of these have business in them. Okay. We talked about business. So that's a separate one, right? Area number one is spirituality and
We're not here to share any beliefs or anything with anyone, but I do invite everybody to have spirituality into your life. Whatever that means for you is beautiful. And so what is your connection to something higher, greater, more powerful, the divine God source, the universe? And
With that, is there an experience of growth happening there? An experience of receptivity? Are there habits that you are consistent with in spirituality? I think so much of spirituality to me, and with so many episodes, we talk about these things, are not about just talking about fairies and
ancestors and spirit guides and stuff like that. But a lot of spiritual practice is just about being present, being happy, being grateful, letting go. That's so much of spirituality and itself. Self is just growing within ourselves. And is that present in your life? Are there habits there? Do you do something on the daily? Do you do something
repetitive because that consistency there is what will allow for that spiritual growth. Whether it's reading a book or attending a seminar or listening to spiritual conversations, but also just little habits like meditation or a gratitude journal. I mean, the options are endless. What do you want to add if anything about this area of spirituality? Again, as we just talk about this and start to ask you questions and
Look at it, it's an opportunity for you to rate where you find yourself in that. I saw a really cool interview with Dr. Ayman, who's a renowned brain doctor. We've had him on the podcast. Yeah, and he's incredible. He said that there's new research coming out saying that there's a profound connection to children who grow up with any concept of God, any concept of God, and the rate of depression, that they have far less rates of depression amongst children who have grown up with a concept of God in their household.
And to me, I started to chew on that and think about that. And I think that spirituality is something that fundamentally is built into us. And I feel really blessed and fortunate that I grew up in a home where that was presented to me since as early as I can remember. So I don't remember a time going without it. But then my parents also had an experience where they came to it in adulthood.
So they presented it to us in childhood because they wish they would have had more of it in childhood. And I didn't have it much in my household growing up. But as our listeners know, I've shared it here, spirituality is what caught me out of my depression. Yeah. Well, and I think depression from our breakup.
But it's true. I was in a very dark place after we broke up and then I was in business and things were going on and I was in a dark place. And then Jen sends me these, even though, why is your ex-girlfriend always got to be so nice to you? It's so hard. He sends me these tapes that really opened that first door of spirituality and that changed my life.
I think that ultimately spiritual paths are about becoming present to what is beyond the 3D right in front of us, which is what I was talking about a little bit earlier. And that once you are present to that, you start to operating inside of this context that while you are your own entity, you know, like that every man is an island kind of a thing, like you come into the world alone and you go out of the world alone. While that can be true, you are deeply not alone.
and you're connected to things and your impact no matter what it is just by the very nature of being alive you are having an impact on things and that when you start to really be present with that then you can take responsibility for your impact and also start to feel the joy in the significance of that and like that you can really affect people and I think that that's
important for entrepreneurs, but also just for having an extraordinary life as being present to that we all matter, that each person deeply matters. And that's something that for a lot of people, that's something they have to wake up to. And I see people, and I think we're so careful about that today, about how you leave someone, the imprint you leave on that person. And I think that's a big deal because everyone, your energy, your aura, your light body is like,
imprinting on all the people you interact with throughout the day and where you become super mindful and present to that and intentional about that. And you also, that's okay, but you have these encounters where you watch people that do the opposite of that, like they leave a wave of destruction, a wake of destruction in their path wherever they go. Every person they interact with ends up like they destroy relationships, they lie, they cheat and they steal and you're like,
And obviously, once you go down that path, it's really hard for people to even wake up and be present to how much of a negative impact you're having on someone. So it can be really hard to even face that. But, you know, that's where letting go and forgiving and repairing can come in even as part of a spiritual path. From there, you become far more intentional about like, you don't want to, and there are other spiritual conversations, distinctions we've had with
You know, our shaman, like you don't want to break those codes of, you know, those boundaries with other other people, you know, like that comes back to you. Yeah. Line and stealing and cheating and doing nasty things to other people.
I think that's, so when I think about the evolution of my spiritual journey to, I think that there's external and internal, like you're pointing to some of the external things that's in the doing, like in the, like how you behave, how you act, the actions that you take. But then there's this whole other world that I think over the past couple of years, I've become even more focused on, which is the internal world of how you think, feel and speak within yourself. And there was a really cool,
video that I watched on Instagram that was analyzing ancient biblical texts where there's a verse be still and know that I'm God. And I've always, I've always loved that Bible verse and it's literally taken as be still like stop moving. And then there's all different places in the Bible where there's a command be still like Jesus saying to the water be still and the water stops moving.
So like literally stop moving. But then if you look at the ancient text where you go all the way back to the Hebrew, the Aramaic, the root of the word is actually coming from something that's more internal. That's like still the mind. That's like quiet the anxiety and know that I am God. And that to me had this profound resonance of like some of the spiritual work while it is about
your actions and the things that you do and the practices that you have. But isn't that also all of those things, whether it's a ritual or a behavior, that's also designed to produce something internal, which is changing what's going on inside of you so that when you're in a moment of high anxiety or high self-criticism or shame or guilt or something that's heavy within you, you can stop that and be still.
and then go into an experience of being connected to God in your path and that that's part of the work. It's like the habit that you're creating on the outside is so that you bear fruit on the inside. And then that change within changes the behavior outside. Yeah, so it's cyclical. Yeah, totally. But then it keeps progressing. So I think I used to think of it more as like, what are the disciplines and the things that I need to do and the
how many meditations and yoga classes and what am I reading and what am I doing and that all of that is great. You keep that up, but there's also this inner work that needs to be happening the way that you speak to yourself, the things that you say, the things that you reflect on or the things that you recapitulate and say, you know, if I had to do that again, I would do that differently or I need to go back and clean that up because that's not sitting well with me. And that those things are part of the spiritual path as well.
And so I think this first category might be the hardest one for you to assess and measure because it might be the 3D aspect of yourself trying to measure something that you haven't even experienced yet. But I think if you started to look back and say, have I had more presence, happiness, and gratitude now than I have in the past, we're making progress.
And then looking forward, can I put some habits or practices in place that will open me up to even more stillness, more presence, more gratitude, more happiness than I think you're on the right track. Let's move to the second area of life, which is a pretty darn important one. And that's our physical health.
Ah, yes. Ah, yes. This is something that should not be ignored. Everything's interconnected. So there is a couple of different ways to look at this because it was weird, like, when I started working with on Javier,
Years ago, all of a sudden, health just became so much more of a passion and fascination for me and I bought all the things and over the years, we've learned so much and he shared so much with us with different protocols and supplements and tools. I feel like I learned the one thing a day now. I learned another thing this morning.
And you know, I would say like the biggest thing is what we stop doing. And so as we talk about this for a few minutes, we can do other episodes. We've done previous episodes and topics. You guys let us know if you're excited to hear more health topics and protocols and stuff, because there's just so much we've learned that it just, it's just like it all adds up. Like when you start doing all of it, it adds up and you see an accumulative effect. So I think a big thing is like noticing what we need to stop doing that's unhealthy.
You know people want to attack other people for being a conspiracy theorist and all that type of stuff which is so sad But if you do your research and you start looking there's a lot of stuff out there that is just bad for you and Really today. I am of the elk that if you're not there yet That's okay that a lot of companies and stuff out there is
knowingly designed to make you sick. And I think if in 2025, if you're not aware of that five minutes of research and you start to see the type of stuff that's at least in America, which by the way, becomes a huge point of conversation. You look at the ingredients and foods in America versus other countries and it blows your mind. And we have such a like,
correlation relationship with like direct, fast instant that we're like, I ate it. I'm fine. I'm alive. And it's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, but eat that straight for the next 10 years while you're also micro dosing poison. You're micro dosing poison. And then it's not just here, but it's in your skincare products. It's in your shampoo. It's in this and it's death by a thousand cots. Yeah. And I think it makes the poison.
the dose made. Wow. Yes. And if you actually just started to look at, you know, what can I get out of my diet? I've always loved that. The philosophy, the viewpoint, the context that your body is a temple and you just let anything in and just be more mindful of that and what and start to say no to things, start to question things and say, what are the ingredients on that? Like, do you look at the ingredients? You know, even when Jenny and I go to restaurant, we're like, what are you cooking that in? And she's the one who started doing that. I was like, I love that. Like, yeah, they're just cooking.
Butter or beef tallow, let's go. The seed oil thing is really alarming. That's something that I just learned about more recently. I knew that I personally did not react well to certain oils like canola oil or soybean oil, but I didn't know that there were just so many different seed oils now that are really
tough on the body and that they can actually change the cell so that the cells in your body no longer receive nutrients. And even if you're trying to detox, if you've got an accumulation of too many of these oils that have permeated the cell, then actually you can be on the best supplements in the world and your body's not getting any of them because it can't get down to the cellular level. So it's a sad fact that actually now there's all this research coming out saying that
actually big companies and big pharma and won't name any big name brands. But some big names are coming up in my mind have in fact, conspired to lie to the American public about the ingredients and or what's healthy. I just read another study today that said that
A big organization, I don't want to misquote which organization, but they were paid off years ago to say that high fats like butter were actually worse for your heart than seed oils. And they were bought off. And that's actually not true. Seed oils are far worse for your cardiovascular health than eating butter every day. But that wasn't true. And then people read that and they go, oh, I can't eat butter anymore. I need to eat margarine.
when that was such a worse decision for your body. So yeah, I'm always researching and learning and learning like, unfortunately, the more we try to make things fast, cheap and easy, the less nutritious it is. And then people also go based on like, they just see brands where they think
It's the same because the label's the same. That's a fascinating thing in human psychology where it's just if it looks the same, they think it's the same on the inside. And literally, if you look at the ingredients from Oreo from the 1980s, it's a different cookie today.
than what we were eating was like modified cornstarch and sugar. And then what these kids are eating are high-roaked corn syrup, corn syrup, all of these seed oils, like modified everything, GMO everything, and it's wild. It's like the exact same packaging, same label, and people go, I eat it as a kid. And I didn't know you weren't eating the same thing. They changed the foods. And I think we should care more about what we put into our body and do a little research. What are the ingredients on this?
And I'm telling you, when I changed my diet just a year ago, it had a profound effect on my energy levels, inflammation, brain fog, everything. I wonder for you, what was it like living with someone now that I'm so sensitive where it is immediate? So Jenny has severe, severe food allergies. So her life is literally on the line.
It was really sad because when we first reconnected, we went out a lot, you know, and ate out. And I would say about four times a week, she would get food allergies, you know, because you don't know what they're doing in the kitchen. So they put a little. And that was before I learned about seed oils because I thought I was just reacting to gluten and I kept being like, why am I getting trace gluten every? And then I realized that it was the seed oil that I was reacting to. Like necessity for survival. She has to eat a lot.
You know, cleaner. So obviously that environment that I'm in encourages me to even cleaner, but I think learning your blood type, learning your body type and, you know, we're only experts are becoming experts on our own bodies and not sharing anything of what is like universal, but paying attention to what you eat and then how that makes you feel and being able to make those modifications and changes has been huge for me.
You know, I think this is so important inside of an extraordinary life is because this is what I noticed for myself when I was diagnosed with food sensitivities and then I started to wean myself off of them. What I learned was I was so accustomed to feeling a certain way in my body that I didn't know what it felt like to not be in that level of discomfort.
I was so used to having a level of inflammation, bloating, headaches, fatigue. I thought that after you ate, you just needed a nap. That's just how it was. And then when I started to eliminate all of the culprits that were causing that, then I started to go, wow, so you could eat a meal and actually feel better than you did before you ate and not need a nap and feel energized and sleep well and wake up not feeling like you need a whole pot of coffee.
Like when I changed my diet, I went to kind of like a modify. I'm not promoting any diet. I'm not a nutrition. I'm just talking about myself. But when I went to, because I was like, I felt like I hit 40 and my energy levels were changing. So I started, you know, just really diving in again and looking and kind of becoming my own science experiment and that. And when I went to a more carnivore based diet, which, you know, that for a lot of people, they have their opinions. I had some like vegans reach out to me and give me and I'm like,
Well, you know what, have your opinions, but here's the thing. She saw me, Jen saw me about two weeks into it. I cried. It was such an emotional release for me. I was like, wow, it had been so long since I felt this good. Yeah, like this incredible.
And I've basically modified the diet so that it's not just like, you know, red meat and whatnot all day. It's no sugar, no carbs, no matter what. And, you know, it's like we've now found our local rancher. We've sourced some incredible beef and, you know, a lot of eggs and other forms of protein, but it was high protein.
and healthy fat, no carbs, no sugar. And it was like, whatever it was that was in my diet that was still a carb was like really, I mean, I saw pictures from a year earlier and I was like, I look so much different. Maybe only I noticed that, but I noticed it. That's huge. So.
What a difference. What a different you have that energy. How is that going to play out in your business in terms of getting more done, being more excited or your ability to be present to, you know, like, like think about a day where you've been in some physical discomfort or pain. How present are you actually when someone else is trying to speak with you or when you're trying to focus on something and you're not distracted by what's going on in your own physical body or the limits of your physiology going, well, I wish I could do that, but I'm just too tired, you know,
There's so many other things we can share that we've done practices that we do from infrared saunas, which is one of the most incredible things that you can do because it's a detox the internal organs every single time that you do it. There's a whole protocol we have around our water because the water is life.
I've gotten into just lemon water, lemon water, lemon water. It's like my favorite thing to drink. I love lemon water. We have all the filtration systems for it. We reoxygenate it and we hydrate it. I'm like your canary in the coal mine though because we moved to Arizona. I'm so sensitive. We moved to Arizona and I started experiencing kidney stuff.
And when we started testing our water, we found out that our water was really hard, even though we had a filter on it. So James invested in a filtration system for the entire house so that even the bad water is filtered. And then the water that we're drinking is tripsis filtered. Yeah. And then immediately no kidney issues.
Yeah. And then again, we could geek out. We should do a whole episode just on our world. Well, just on the water. Just on the water. Because the vitalizer spins it. You can do the research on this. They can look at a molecular level. It restructures the water. And then what's the name of it? The eco bottle. The eco two plus thing. I think is what it's called an eco plus. Or is it echo echo? Yeah. E C H O plus. Don't get a knockoff version. It rehydrogenates the water for you or puts hydrogen in it.
which is great for your immune system, for your skin, for your hair. You do that a couple of times a day. There's a whole protocol there. Anyways, we need to move on, because I still got three more areas I want to talk about, but this one has become a big one for us, as you can tell. You want to rate where you feel like your current health bucket is. Always room for improvement, so no one should be a 10, because even us, we could get so much better.
Having some kind of protocol where you're moving the body, sweating, all of that is so important. Okay, let's move on to the next area. And this is financial freedom or wealth. When you get this, this is not your business. So career is business.
Financial freedom or wealth or affluence is another area. When I realized that those were two, that those were separate, that blew my mind. Business and career is what you do for money. Financial freedom, this category is what you do with the money to get that money to work for you. Right.
And you want to really assess this area. What am I doing strategically with my finances? What are we doing with the money that we're making once we have it? Are we investing it, using it wisely? Or are we just spending willy-nilly and looking to make more and then losing it and living paycheck to paycheck? But financial freedom doesn't happen with your business. This is mind-blowing for people. Why do you want to start a business so I can have financial freedom?
And that's not ever going to give you financial freedom. What? No, it's going to give you cash flow. And the right type of business can give a lot more cash flow. But it's what you do with the cash flow, the money coming in, how you use that to get it to work for you.
is everything. So we can do episodes on all of these because that was a huge game changer for me and how I changed my relationship with money to get more strategic with it. Today, we have an entire real estate and short term rental portfolio. We just got another house. Ideally, I want to do a minimum of one a year. I'm kind of talking about two a year. We're now looking in different cities like Austin, Texas.
other investments, diversification and portfolios, all that type of stuff. So if that's something you haven't even touched thought about, if that's one of the things you're like, oh, I'll do that once my business hits six of gears, then you're going to want to put like a one on this one. That's like as low as it goes as I keep putting it off. I don't want to look at it. I don't have the money at boobity boobity boops. That's low on the scale.
You know what I was thinking about the other day, because I'm learning so much about this from you, is that when you don't have financial freedom, or you're not working towards it, and I love that Mel is just like, it doesn't matter what you're making people think I'm gonna make a plan. Yeah, they think I'm gonna make a plan once I'm making a certain amount of money, and it's like, Mel's helping me with my financial plan, and you don't have to be, you know, a millionaire to be doing this, but what I've noticed from watching you and Mel,
is that when you start to have this plan for how to make your money work for you, it's incredible the sense of relief that that starts to have on your physiology, honestly. I started to reflect on it and go, how many of us are walking around with this underlying anxiety and stress about financial worries because you have to make ends meet in this world. And when you start to have
a plan that's working for you beyond you going to work. You start to really start to experience this level of peace and just freeing up energy that was wound around the stress of finding this. Not only that.
But if you don't have this plan in place, I can guarantee you when you start making money, you're going to waste it and spend it. Oh, such a good point. Such a good point. You're going to go. I'm like, oh, I'll just go buy this thing. I'll just go and you're just buying junk. Yeah. And I went through that. I definitely did that. I don't want to say junk, but things are like.
Okay, did I really need that? Well, and that's something you and Mel and I, from the minute you guys started helping me with my finances, you taught me anytime you receive something that's like a bonus payment that's outside of your traditional paycheck, then you take a portion of that and you decide what that is. And every time you get that check, then you go and invest it in something.
And you helped me picked, you gave me like categories of like, here's all the different things that you can invest in. And I thought it, I picked the category that I felt like was the most fun and exciting of like, oh, wow, I want to put my money there. And then we went and you helped me use that money towards an investment like that. And I thought that was such a good practice because it doesn't matter if you're only getting a $1,000 bonus, then you take 10% of $1,000 and you go invest it in some way.
do something with it and get into that and that habit. And for us, like I, or for myself specifically, I just sit there and I go, it's so much easier to have the discipline of not spending the money. If you're like, no, I'm in six months, I'm going to get another property and I want to have a $500,000 down payment. So I'm going to save the money for it and not just waste it and keep that in a separate account or, you know, keep that safe. And the goal and the intent perpetuate or encourages that healthy habit. Yeah.
Okay, so something to look at. Area number four is the area of purpose, fulfillment, meaning, or contribution. Any area in which you are giving back, doing good, something bigger than you, for others, not yourself, I can guarantee you, you will have one of the most high quality of rich, extraordinary experiences of life when you are doing that. It kind of really draws back to what you were saying, Jenny, about being present to how much, even just being alive, you matter.
and that when you can make a difference in any way financially, oh, I don't have the money to donate or whatever it's like, then you have your time. And usually most people either have money or time. The more money you're making tends to become the less time you have. So if you don't have a lot of money, you can contribute your time. And we've done both in our lives. I remember, you remember when we were dating long, long, long ago, and one night we just decided to make the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I still think about that.
It was a really sad thing, but like people like in all the neighboring towns just like unloaded a lot of unhoused people. We don't know who they were or there was just a ton of people living now under the boardwalk and like on the beach and everything. And we just went and I was like, let's just make sandwiches for everyone. And that was really fun. We were broke.
We're living with, we were both living in my parents a little like basement, right? And that was, you know, like you just think about those little things and that was like beautiful, you know, I reflect back on like, wow, you know, today what we've done is we infuse contribution into the business in several different ways.
And it's really cool because it does a couple of things. First of all, it shows our customers and clients that experience of contribution. And also, it shows that together as a group, you can have a far bigger impact than if it was just you. So we actually ended up raising, and this is actually a conservative amount.
about 350, 360,000 dollars for charity water just in three days or two and a half days at BBD Live back in December. But that's a far conservative amount because a lot of people signed up for the monthly membership. So that will, like talking to Scott, that will almost like double over like the course of someone, you know, over two or three years, right?
And that happened so fast. We also brought that into our launch. So anyone that upgraded to our VIP experience last year, we gave $10 out of their 47 to charity water as well. Every year we pick a charity, we sponsor them. We've done charitable things with our mastermind. We do charitable things at our team retreats and like make them really fun and stuff like one year we did.
bowling, where every pin that you hit down, we contributed. It was a local organization that helped displace youth in San Diego. That was a couple of years ago. That was really fun. We're always bringing that. You can do that personally in your own life, in your own world. It can be anonymous, it can be private. I've done private and anonymous donations.
for years. I kind of prefer that because you always also kind of feel like, if you need to let everybody know, it's like, what reason are you doing it for? Right? You know, here's just a little example. I follow this guy. I'm going to give him a shout out. Unfortunately, I can't remember his, his account name.
But I follow these funny, weird accounts on Instagram. And one of them is this guy that makes handmade wooden UFOs. Yeah, they're really cool. It's so cool. And I've got to find this guy's account. And I follow him every day. And he puts this so he makes one a day.
And then he puts it on eBay or Etsy and it sells in minutes. So I never been able to get one because I'm too slow. And like people buy instantly and he sells them for like 500 bucks a pop, like because the bidding just goes up and then people buy it. And then one day one of his stories showed that his entire garage was burnt down.
like the neighbor's house caught on fire, his house caught on fire, his whole woodworking garage. Boom. And I'm like devastated. I was like, no, I got this guy's got to keep going with his videos. And so I just, without saying any, he created like a GoFundMe page, send him a bunch of money and he reached out to me.
And he made me a custom. I know it's awesome. I was not expecting, I was like, no, no, no, no, no, don't make me one. This is for your workshop. And he insisted and I was so beautiful of him and I had to make me, we got to show a picture of it of a custom UFO and it had a camper van on it. And like the camper van is getting abducted. I'm like, this is so badass. This is the cool. It's got a little light switch where like the UFO lights up and everything. I'm like, that's, that was amazing. He didn't have to do that, but.
I look for those opportunities and I think that's beautiful that we should all be looking for that in our life. And I'll just add this little part that is not that that's the reason you should be doing it for, but it is the ultimate hack for abundance in your life because giving is the manifestation of the behavior of abundance.
and it's so sad, the amount of people out there, whatever, if that's you, okay, I'm probably not your person, so I'll just call you out and you can go, but that want a ton of money and that are just total miser, penny pinchers, won't give anything to anyone at any time, and then they wonder why they don't have any money, why they don't have enough, because you're operating from lack, and when you give to someone else, especially someone in need who has less, because there's always someone less fortunate than,
You, no matter where you are, and that gives you perspective, then you have communicated the universe, I know more will come because I can give this more will come. And if you go, no, no, no, no, I can't give anything. I only have a dollar. We don't give a dollar. You give 10 cents, right? But if you say, I can't even give 10 cents, then you're saying that's because no more will come to me.
When I got that, that changed everything. And obviously it feels good to give and contribute and make a difference. And today, I think there's two sides of manifestation. Manifestation is like, answer my prayers, answer my prayers, answer my prayers. The most powerful place in manifestation is say, let me be the answer to someone else's prayers. And that I think changes everything. So I had to throw that little piece in there.
All right, let's talk about the fifth and final area that we're going to discuss today, and that is what I put as extracurricular. Okay, so I chose not to put family on here because it's obviously very important, but that's because we talked about that in the first episode. Love and relationships. Love and relationship in your life. That's family, folks. That's the people in your world that matter, right?
But I wanted to put this one on here because I tend to see a lot of entrepreneurs. I've been guilty of this, so I see it in others really fast, that their life becomes so lopsided that, and even when things are going really well, you can get so much fulfillment from the work that you're doing that you don't really feel like you need an outside life. And I think my life became way more richer and extraordinary when I had things outside of business that I could enjoy about life. Surfing became a huge one for me.
It filled the health bucket. It filled the spirituality bucket because you're just so meditative out there. You're in nature. And it was something I became passionate about, something that was like pushing me to grow. So any extracurricular thing out there where you have to learn, measure progress, see improvement, push yourself, develop new habits, learn new things is going to be great. Today, it's been about music.
And the moment I dove into music, it was like, where has this whole world been my whole life? Why have I not had music in my life? It's been so beautiful to learn about the intelligent design of music theory and the experience of hitting walls in your growth and like overcoming that and breaking through plateaus and practicing and discipline and really being your word to do it even when you don't feel like doing it. And that is just been amazing. And then to have friends come out and you know this,
Unfortunately, having friends come over and then we just play music for hours has been not for you, but for me, such an enjoyable experience. And I think having something in your life outside of work.
outside of the day to day that is something for you that's enjoyable, that you look forward to, and that could be anything, that could be camping, that could be mountain biking, that could be any, that could be crocheting. I don't know. What is something you feel like is extracurricular?
in your life, travel in puppies. Yeah, I was going to say dog life for you. Jen has become a dog trainer herself. Well, amateur, let's not over high. She's still at still counts. She's learned how to be a dog. She's helped me so much with Kali. Yeah, it becomes it becomes a big hobby. You know, you're constantly training them, teaching them new things, working with them. And it is. So that's a great example. I think of something extracurricular, you know, dog life. I love it. And we love traveling.
We love traveling. Yep. So I think having that in your life brings a lot more reading. I love books. It's good. So look into that category and see if like there's just like, yeah, I don't do anything outside of work. It's like work or the kids and that's it and bringing that in. And I think when we say things to ourselves like, I don't have time, then you need to make the time.
And it doesn't need to be something that takes a long time. It could be something that is five minutes. And I think that's where we need to start with things. Any area that you feel like is out of balance in your life is what could you do with five minutes? Because I think you can do a lot with five minutes. Not about doing it all, doing it perfectly, doing it the best. It's about what can I give five minutes to? Because I think that decision of five minutes is saying this is important to me and I want to make a dent and I want to make an improvement in it. And five minutes to
Choose to, you know, even work out like the rebounder for five minutes can be a day can be life changing right there or five minutes of reading a chapter in a book that you've always wanted to read or five minutes of, you know, contribution or education. Growth can make a huge difference. So instead of saying, I don't have the time, you've already wasted enough time complaining about you. You don't have enough time. Make the time.
I really feel like it's part of your overall mental health too. Just to identify things that bring you joy and make sure that you go and do those. Even if it's something that's small, my sister and I just love, we grew up loving movies. That was how we connected with our dad primarily is going to Blockbuster and watching movies and analyzing movies and talking about movies.
We just love film. So when Jillian and I are together, we'll go and watch like two movies in a row at a movie theater. And we just think that's the most fun thing to do with our day, you know, and then I would consider my, I think my salt bath falls under the category.
extracurricular. No, that's health. That is totally. But, you know, it's something that every day I look forward to my little salt bath with my Epsom salts and my essential oils and then a book or sometimes I meditate. Sometimes I listen to
My classical music, I just, I look forward to that every day. And you've actually seen the effect of if I don't have it, then I start to- So I'll be like, babe, get it on. You need to get to bed. I'm doing it. I'm doing it too. This is amazing. I know. It's my life's work is to convert people into the world of salt bathing. Oh, that is a health hack. I can't believe you didn't mention that when we talked about health. That's been a huge one for both of us.
Well, it's so good for you because one, the heat in the bathtub induces a artificial fever. So already it's boosting your immune system because it's like your body going through a fever. And supposedly for women, it's supposed to regulate your hormones as well, even up to as much as like a five mile run because you're raising your internal body temperature and you're starting to sweat.
And then putting the absence salts in the bath, which you want to be mindful of where you source salt from because some salt does have heavy metal so you can get like, you know, clean, absence salts. But putting the salt is infused with all of these minerals that your skin's the largest organ. So you absorb those into your vital organs. And it also works as an energy detox to clear the orc field. And then I put a series of essential oils in my bathwater. Lately, I've been putting turmeric,
Rosemary, rose lavender. And sometimes I add lemon, also love lemon grass, which kind of smells like fruit loops. But those all produce different things in the body, like lavender cues, the production of serotonin. And so then you're getting this massive little spa moment throughout the day to clear your energy and support your immune system and boost your immunity.
There you go. That's great. I love it. Well, there's your little bonus salt bath tip for the episode. I hope you guys enjoyed this and found this insightful, helpful, and introspective in looking at these areas of life and that maybe, oh, wow, I haven't been really paying attention to this. I've been neglecting this area and I can promise you, you give it a little care, you toil that soil and add a new habit or routine, put your energy on it, put importance on it.
It amplifies an accumative effect your entire life and that was really the intention with the series of episodes is first to say, hey, we want to talk to you about how to have a successful business. We want to talk to you every week about how to grow in your business and how to become a better leader, a better thought leader, a better leader to your team and to your students.
