Well, I've had some very difficult times in the early 90s. Many of my friends went bankrupt. Many of my enemies went bankrupt, also, which I didn't mind at all. But many of my friends never to be heard from again. And I never did go bankrupt, but I was certainly in trouble. And you fight, and you keep fighting, and you use your brain, and you make a lot of moves, and hopefully they're all good moves, or most of them.
And you end up being much bigger than you were before. And it is a character builder. And I love the fact that it's a character builder. It's not something you want to go through every 10 years of your life. But you do learn a lot about yourself, Robert. Right. And the reason we want to do this is because, for me, it was in the early 80s. I only went down a million.
But a million dollars back then was everything. It was everything. I was wiped out. I had nothing. I didn't declare bankruptcy either because I decided to just fight back. I think that's my message, right, is that it's the time to fight back. Don't give up. Everybody goes through tough times. And for some people,
They come out to the side better. Other people don't. And so we're encouraging people to do better. Well, I really believe that times like this, where the economy of the world is so bad, you have greater opportunity for financial gain than you would ever have in really good times. That's correct. And I tell people, go to the bank, buy a house, work a deal with the bank. They'll take back financing. They said, well, we don't have that kind of money. I said, you don't need money. The bank already put the money in. And you'll work out a financing deal.
The bank is dying to get rid of houses that are far nicer than any house you've ever lived in before. So it's very important. I mean, you and I have had great experience. We did a number one best-selling book. And as you know, you decided to be a little bit pennywise. And you went to a printer for this book because we didn't need a publisher because you had number one best sellers. I have number one best sellers.
So you go to this printer and you saved about $3 and the company went bankrupt. And so we went from being number one to being not on the list. And everyone's going crazy saying, where do we get the book? So that was probably the fastest drop in history from number one to you can't get the book.
But we learned from that. And I wanted to go to a publishing house, which would have cost a little bit more, but this solid. And I don't say you're wrong. And in many cases, you would have been right. For instance, if you went to that same printer two years before, they were a hot printer. And they would have lasted for two years. But you learned lessons in life. And I think we both learned. It was always tough, number one to nothing.
That was a tough one. That's right. And we learned something from it. That's correct. And we just keep coming back and battle back and come out stronger on the whole thing. You could be anywhere doing a lot of different things, but you chose to be here.
and you chose to go somewhere, you said, man, I can go and I can get better, I can go and I can learn, I can go, and I can maybe go from where I'm at to where I want to go. But one of the most important things that you will ever do or not do in your life is to value and seek wise counsel. To be coached hard means you have to be willing to be uncomfortable. I love that someone thinks it's ecstasy when I'm next to them. That just puts a smile on my face. Well, I think for the listeners out there that are into the definition of words. Words, controversial idea.
When you look at the definition of ecstasy, it reads an overwhelming feeling of great happiness or joyful excitement. So I can actually say that with a straight face. Sure. Oh, I know you can mean that. Now, for listeners out there today who are not familiar with this show, we like to focus on things that actually can change your life. And so on today's show, I want to talk about pushing forward in the face of adversity.
So we're going to go around the horn here, go around the room, and what we're going to do is we are going to bring up examples of where we fought through rejection, and we kept pushing on in root to success. And we're going to one up each other. So I'm going to start first, and no matter how good my little warm up story is,
Z story will be better. Okay. Okay. And then Paul Hood's story can surpass that story. And then Ryan Whimpy with tip top canine gets to win the prize here. So here we go. We all have a good idea. Everybody out there has a good idea. You say, I want to see you say, I want to raise capital. I want to start a business. I want to open my new company. We all have these ideas. Ideas. You got it. But the person who can't fight through adversity never executes the idea.
and they run around going, I had that idea. I had that idea. What entrepreneurs is what we call that. They say, why didn't I do it? Why didn't I do that idea? Why did I do that idea? I thought of that idea. There was a guy. You should share it with me now, since you did all the work. Have you heard this though, this kind of logic? Absolutely. Sure. And then colleges applaud it. They give you awards for the best business idea. They rarely give an award for the best execution of the idea. It's always the best idea. Idea. And so here we go. I had an idea that I wanted to book Boeing
Boeing, you know, the people who make the airplanes, Boeing for their Christmas party. Yes. Okay. You wanted to, when you say book it, I mean, I wanted to be their disc jockey. There you go. I wanted to be the DJ of choice for Boeing. They're 40th anniversary. Oh, wow. And I remember I cold called Boeing and see what's crazy. Boeing didn't call me. I called them. Wait a second. Didn't they know you had a DJ business? DJ connection? They must have skipped it in the phone book because they did not call me. I called them. Wow.
but I had a lot of equipment. And it occurred to me that a lot of people don't wake up with a burning desire to pay me. Really? But I didn't have that idea until after I bought my equipment. Paul, have you ever had that thought as an accounting firm? You ever thought like, wow, you know, we have a lot of overhead now, but yeah, not a lot of people call us. We should probably call other people. Yeah, it might be good. My payroll is $2.5 million a year. So it's, I got to call a lot of people. Can I call a lot of people? Got to call a lot. Ryan, have you ever had that idea with tip top canine where you're thinking yourself,
Man, not a lot of people are calling me just because I have over there. I know they have dogs. Yeah, I have a bright yellow van. I got all my flyers made and my business cards are finally in and I know what to do and no one's calling. Yeah. So we've all been there. So this is what I did. I picked up the phone book and I called Boeing. Now, this is how I got through. Zeke, can you be the front desk person? Sure. Absolutely. And we're going to, you're going to reject me at least three or four different times. Okay. Sure. Call number one. Uh, yeah, who's in charge? Give me that.
Hello and thank you for calling Boeing Airlines. Yes, I'm trying to talk to the person who's in charge of booking your entertainment. Who would that be? Why did I take your name and number and I can pass that along? That happened like seven times. Then I had an idea. Here's my idea. Oh, this one worked. Hello and thank you for calling Boeing.
Yeah, I got a question. I'm trying to get the details for our Christmas party this year. My wife and I want to make sure we're addressing appropriately, you know, the times and all that stuff. Who's organizing it this year? Oh, that's Roxanne. You know, she said that. There we go. And they gave me Alice Hargrove's number. And there I was on the phone with Alice. There was Alice. Alice. And that move worked. I just changed my script a little bit to who's planning our Christmas party. That's implying I might be invited.
You never know. I mean, that's a safe assumption. You're just a positive editor. But I mean, I had to try all these different. It took me weeks to figure it out. But I finally got through. I'm on the phone with Alice. I'll never forget it. She said, well, we already have. I said, Alice, who are you using this year for the DJ? And she said, we're using such and such company.
And I said, how happy are you with their performance on a scale of one to 10? If 10 is great and one is terrible, how happy are you with their performance? And she does what most people do. She said something like, well, about a seven or an eight. Right. And I said, well, I'll take it from a seven or an eight to great. So I'd like to come meet you free consultation. I can show you how we can help you. And I got a lot of plans, revolutionary plans that take parties from ordinary to extraordinary. And you only have to pay me a dollar to book me. And you don't have to pay the rest unless you're happy.
So it's, I mean, it is a, it is a hot deal. Now again, there you go. You might ruin the party. And that might still be a dollar might be too much or it could be great, but I'd love to meet you. So Zishi agreed to meet. And I just told her I have revolutionary party ideas that will take parties to the next level. And do you know the one thing? Do you have any specifics? Nothing. So when she agreed to do it, I thought to myself, oh no, I better get something. I better get something. So I got the winter barns in noble back when you could go to a stores. Wow. Got a mask. I don't remember that. So I went there.
And then I was, by the way, folks, we have a very smart professor from Yale who's now talking about how the hype about coronavirus is not a real thing we have. I'll put it on the show notes. We've got MIT doctors now saying the coronavirus is overhyped. We've got Stanford doctors. So anyway, the point is that I think eventually people will wake up and we'll go back to stores.
But the point is, I go in there and I bought a book called, How to Be a DJ or something. How to take your party to the next level. Right. And I got the book, see? Yeah. Crazy thing. Crazy thing. And I wrote down the ideas in the book. No. And I showed up to meet her. And I asked her, we have a man who wants in the door. There we go. And so when I asked the question, I said, do you want to do? Do you want me to teach everybody a line dance? And Z, she says, yes. Yes, I do want you to teach the line. You know what the problem was there?
You didn't know the line dance. Right. Right. And I said, now, do you want to do name that tune? She says, yes. Yes. Do you want to do Price is Right? Do you want to do Family Feud? Do you want to do karaoke? And she said, yes, yes, yes. And it occurred to me, I don't know how to do any of these things. None. But then I read the books, learned how to do it, hired someone to teach me things. Boom, there it is. But I had not been willing to push through all that rejection. I would not have had super success. But that right there is a lame story.
Because this is the game of one-upsmanship. We're playing the one-upsmanship game. Yeah, but you can't start off with Boeing. That's not fair. No, it's not fair. It's a good story. No, I mean, you've been rejected by banks. Well, I know, but still. You've been rejected by... You can't tell my rejection stories. Z, are you backing down to a challenge? I've never seen this. I think his knees are quivering over there. No, Paul. No, Paul. I just...
I just want to point out the facts that he's, he, uh, he's rigging the game. He swung big, didn't he? He swung big, but he's like, I'm just going to go open. Yeah. Coach, I'm going to bud. Yeah. And then he just, he got back and knocked it out and tried to have part. It was a, I have better stories. That was a solid C. That was a solid C. I could have been about a seven. A seven. It was about a seven. All right. Now get, get yourself ready because we're, we're going to, this is a hot and fast show here. 15 minutes of fury. Show a question number. The story number one, I give it a B, maybe a C.
But I know Paul's going to one up you. So give us a story that's true. Well, I was coming out of optometry school. You alluded to it earlier. It's kind of got a fun ending to it. So hang in there, folks. But when I came out of optometry school, every young wannabe doctor says, I want to have my own clinic, right? I'm on clinic. I'm on clinic. Every doctor says. Or be a partner in a big, big thing going on.
So I found a gentleman who wanted to sell his practice. It was kind of cool. He was right over there by, um, so he first done Lewis as a matter of fact. And so I, he said, all you have to do is go get the, the financing and, and I'm sure he's in any bank in town. So you have a DR in front of your name. Dr.
And since you carry around a hard case, Samsonite briefcase, you know, with the little flip-toggles on the side, you know? Yeah. Yeah, all sexy. Since you carry that around, you must mean business. Done. Business time. I went and knocked on every bank in Tulsa's door. Everyone. Knocked to the door. Knocked to the door. You actually showed up? I showed up. I just physically walked in and they greet me and they said, well, how can we do it for you today? And I said, well, I'd like to talk to a loan officer.
I'm my doctor's owner and I'm, you know, the doctor. And most times I would get that meeting. Sometimes I'd get a, well, they're busy. We have to make an appointment. You looked very young back in the day. I mean, when you were 30, you looked like you were 10.
I mean you're a young man though, seriously. You're a young... 25 years old at the time. But you looked really young. Well, I mean you're 25 was like, you don't think I mean objectively you looked very young. I don't know, you know, I never really had big head of hair, so that kind of... I mean you were beautiful, but I mean you looked like a young beautiful man. A young beautiful man, well I smell good, I know that much. So rejection, rejection, rejection, it was the same thing, you don't have enough history, there's not enough this, there's not enough that, you know.
And it's crazy, as it may seem out there, for those of you wanting to buy a business, and when they hand you their, Paul, you can probably be talking to this, when they hand you their numbers, their papers, they go, and they give you a wink and go, but you know, I usually make a little bit more than that.
Mm-hmm. Sure. And what that means, folks, is that sometimes the cash don't get included in the day's tally. Right. I run through the business. But yeah, I run through the business. But what happens is when you go to buy it, now you have to show the money that's coming through, and there's no record of that. Mm-hmm. And therefore, they look at you and say, well, that doesn't justify the loan you want. You won't be able to pay it back with that cash flow. They're not honest with how where the money goes. Kind of like Black Lives Matter. Kind of like that. Okay. It's a big switch. Good one. Yeah.
So I found one bank one person come on. I'll give you the loan on one condition one condition
He said, I'll give you half the money up front, the other half you have to put it in a CD for six months. And if you make your payments and looks like you're in the right direction, we'll release that second half to said seller of the office. Does a CD stand for cash put into a hole that someone dug? No, no, it's a certificate of deposit. Oh, and they have. And they have so they have a lifeline of or a life, you know,
of six months usually maybe they do it nine months a year and if you take it out before that it's a penalty but anyway so they told the gentleman that and me and he said to me no no all up front that was our deal or out the door and I said man
So I, I, I went and I did something crazy. What'd you do? Hey, this is going to sound absurd. Chuck Obama. I went and got a job. What? Wait a minute. Let me kill. Let me kill the box fan. This is, when you talk about, the story sounds too crazy. It makes me want to go talk into a box fan.
I mean, this sounds less crazy. You're talking about getting a job? JOB. For somebody else? But that wasn't my dream. No. My dream was to have my own practice. Be the, have my name on the door. Oh, yeah. My name up on the side.
Your body I've worked all that I worked all that you know it's a long weekend in Puerto Rico to get what I wanted and I found out eight years but And quick eight years I mean in Talaquap went to the lake by the way folks for you those who out there looking for a great family vacationing ideas go to Talaquap I mean it's known for it's actually it's a good stuff float the river ten killers a beautiful lake. And so anyway, it wasn't my dream, but I thought, well, now that I can't do my dream today, that doesn't mean I can't plan to do my dream down the road. And now it's like you so eloquently like to say, not only do I have all the businesses that I have, but actually I'm about 10% of a bank. So how about 10% of a bank? Yeah roughly.
You know folks, for any of you out there right now who find yourself in a tough spot and you're looking for free suckers. But that was my thing about rejection. Sometimes you get rejected enough and you could just go out there and say, well, I'm not going to stop until I open my business. Not going to stop. You can't do it without the thing called the monies. The monies. So I got my job. I live below my means. I saved up some monies. How long did it take you?
Oh, let's see. Took me here one year. A quick 12 bucks. Now, that story, if I were going to give that story some quality, that story is already a solid A minus. Mine was a solid B. Really, I was supposed to be real. My story was a C minus. So now your story hopped up from a C minus game to an A minus game. I think it's maybe B plus. Oh, I got this.
OK, Paul, please give us a good story. And then, by the way, we've got about 15 minutes of fury here. So we've got to get two stories in in six minutes. So Ryan, we'll be ready to have a banker Boeing story. So you're going to hear what you'll want up these lame stories. So you're next, Paul. All right. So here it is. This is later in life. And this is a fun story because I got the same stories about bankers and blah, blah, blah, blah. But here's a deal. So I get this email from my son. And it's about a 25,000 corporate house.
We go look at this house. I already have a nice house. I have a ranch and and love where we think this is where we are in all in our you know our final home and I go look at this house and it's winter. There's no power on have to use my cell phone to go look through it. There's bats clay flying around in this house bats bats bats.
Was Dr. Fauci there? He loves bats. Fauci was, I believe he was there, but it was kind of a ghosting thing. Okay. But this guy had built this house for like 12, 14 years and he got it to the sheet rock phase. So he had some issues, blah, blah, blah, and had about $6 million into this place.
do you have issues with sheetrock uh... no he loves to go to make sure it was not with that strange that he did not i was i've looked i'm hoping i still find the button was the house in wuhan uh... no it was just outside of wuhan okay uh... so all the bad references just yeah it just kind of gets as confused the guy doesn't sing meatloaf does he know if i was saying not that guy another guy and then you palms are right there they're they're getting into my six minutes oh yeah i'm sorry sir for
So the point is, is I have very good, by this time I have very good banking relations. I've got very good net worth. I've got, you know, money set aside and I go to my banks, which I deal with about seven different banks. And normally I just walk in and say, hey, I need some money and I just put it in my account. Sure. So I go to the banks and I ask, you know, here's this deal. You know, I've got a six and a half million dollar house I can buy for 1.5 million. Makes sense. Makes sense. Yeah. So the common sense.
They all said no. They all said no. What? They all said no. What? Yeah. They kept bringing up this movie, Money Pit. I don't know if you've ever seen that movie, Money Pit. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So something right. Something's not right. Paul, you can't get that. It's money pit about Dr. Fauci. No, Tom Hanks is in it. And we, that's a whole nother. That's a whole nother that Tom Hanks and someone say pedophile.
pedophile pits, I don't know what that is. Sorry, go to Greece. There it's not against the law. Sorry, I'm just, you guys are, it's like a lot of innuendo in the story. Sorry, I know, I know. We, we, a lot of rabbit trails, a lot of bat trails. So anyway, long in the short of it is none of my banks would loan me money. So this was a dead deal. I mean, I'm thinking, well, gosh, it's a great deal. Why can't I get somebody? It's a fabulous deal. Yeah. So I go, I talk to the bankruptcy attorney that's involved with it. I talk to the realtors. I talk to
The existing bank and they all said no, you know the the can't get it done can't get done can't again Finally I just push and push and push and push and push and push and finally the bank that had the loan Was getting ready to have four clothes on it and I convinced them to loan me the money plus another couple million to finish the house So now I've got a house that is worth
Two and a half times what I've got into it and I've got I've literally had builders mad at me Because they didn't have the cahonies to ask to make an offer because see what I did was I I believe if it had to be a hell Yes, and so I said an extreme anchor I offered 1.1 million thinking they're gonna laugh at me, but I was that was my number
And when they came back and went from four something, six something, four something to 1.9, I said, holy smoke, this just got real. And so just by asking, if I would, all these other builders, all these other people, they said, no, they, okay, this can't be done, this can't be done, can't be done. And it took me six months.
of trying to get somebody to say yes, but I didn't stop. And now, my net worth went up several million. The problem about this show is I want Dr. Fauci to stop listening to it. Because he just keeps asking, can you please shut down your company? Can you please wear a mask? Can you please? And even though it defies logic, it doesn't make any sense at all. Eventually, people are going, OK.
I wish you what up about it. I'm hoping he keeps watching because all this money he's making off the coronavirus. He might be able to buy my house. Oh, there you go. Oh, what's for sale now? No, it's for sale if somebody can stroke a jacket for now. Everything for sale technically, right? Yeah, that's right. So that story, I would say that story is solid. It was already a probably solid AZ was a plus. I mean, that was a that was a dozen phenomenal. So I don't know. He sounded it's because it's a violent story. He was doing a lot of pushing. Like I don't know if he's U.S.C. Paul. Paul. Paul. Paul. Paul. It has.

Put the money in the bag. And then he goes, put the money in the bag. And I think you understand what's gonna happen right here. I'm gonna start pushing you. And I mean pushing, I mean really pushing. I'm gonna push you so hard. It's like something peppy. You're gonna feel really good.
And therefore, you're gonna give me the money to save us both some time. Put it in the back. Save us both. And then they went, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, sir. Here's your money. Snakes, isn't the lobby? I think it's a good thing to get in your toolbox to have the push move ready to go. I think that's as an entrepreneur, you got to have the push. Snakes, quit asking for the free suckers. Talk to someone's got to go.
Unbelievable. Okay, so Ryan you you run tip-top canine. It's a dog training franchise Yes, you how many locations are open all right now 12 and they're making money Yes, what kind of gross revenue is one of them doing where you can actually talk about it?
Um, so last year we had a lot of them averaging 30, 40,000 a month. Of revenue? Yes. Training dogs? Yep. Good story. That's a good story. That's a great story. That's a great story. That's a great story. That's a great story. Well, that's a great story. All right. So Ryan, give us a story. What's your story? Um, well, there was no banks that are bowing or million dollar houses. So basically when I first started up like 14 years ago, um, I maxed out seven credit cards and just started up. Oh, yeah. He started up. What's credit cards? Yep.
credit cards. So I make a chroma. What kind of credit cards? Macy's cards. No. Target. Sears. It was all types of credit cards, to be honest. Did you use any of the Mimi's Cafe cards? No, I just got eight cards and cash advanced them all. Creditcards.com. How much money did you get? $35,000. $35,000.
I love it. That's a great story. The internet wasn't as fast, so I literally opened up like eight browsers at the same time. That's the movie. Put them all in, and then it was like bang, bang, bang, bang. Dude, I did that move as a young man. Right. Did you ever do the thing? I know that you only listen to Christian music now, and for a bad reason I get it. Did you ever do the thing to a BMG music where you got 11 CDs for a penny?
Oh, yeah. Did you do that move to it? And she went a million dollars by doing that or something. The catch was you had to buy one CD within the month and you had to cancel and you got to get 11 for a penny. I signed up when I was like 15, 16, any name I could think of. I literally signed up with my dad, my mom. I tried. I went to the dog and I recognized it worked.
So I was like just signing up random people. It seemed like there's probably 45 people living in my house at some point. I mean, that's how I built my first CD collection. I like the resourcefulness. So you did next other credit cards. Right. So then I paid. I've been working with another dog trainer. They moved. I paid a guy who trains trainers, had to be professional trainers and get set up and stuff. He came out. I paid him a huge chunk of money. Chunk of money. And then I'm money and chunks on my own. And I'm a bomb in it.
So I have a yellow van. I had it's wrapped. I have some pretty, you know, word document flyers. Business cards got in and then I realized I only have a few leads that I've got, right? And then I did okay selling with him when it was like half him there, right? Because he was the guru. And then my first one I go to by myself, the people are like really not impressed asking if I know any other dog trainers that train similar to me.
Wow, did you ever take your van and go park it by a dog park? I get everything started and then I'm like hey I literally have no leads and so I would go park my van and I would train my dogs in public for like three or four hours at a time to try to generate leads because I had no leads at all.
Uh, speaking of public, you guys are in that grocery store called Publix? Yes, Publix? No. It's in Texas, I know. Exactly. They sponsored me to speak, like, I don't know, I was 26. And you're supposed to thank the sponsor, Z. So I get up and I'm like, I want to thank the good folks at Publix.

I love this guy. What a great funny guy. Anyway, so that is a story that didn't end well. But I want to read three notable courtables and we're going to wrap up today's show. Napoleon Hill once wrote a book called Outwitting the Devil, Outwitting the Devil. In the book, outwitting the devil, it says, you are entitled to know that two entities occupy your body. One of these entities is motivated by in response to the impulse of fear. Fear.
The other is motivated by in response to the impulsive faith. Will you be guided by faith or will you allow fear to overtake you? Boom. Boom. Next notable chordable. Napoleon Hill says, the capacity to surmount failure without being discouraged is the chief asset of every person who attains outstanding success in any calling.
Napoleon Hill because he was on fire goes on to write failure is a man made circumstance. It is never real until accepted by man as permanent. So if you're out there today and you're dealing with some rejection, you got to push through it. You have to not stop. You have to keep pressing, keep pushing. This is going to be your year to thrive. I know you're going to have success, but you cannot stop because all success is on the other side of great adversity. You have to fight through the problems. You gain strength through struggle. You got to fight through it.
You have to do it. And by the way, your calf muscles are percolating. Well, that had a lot of adversity. You can do it. I bet it showed those calves when he went to the bank, loan done. Short, short, baby. That was my, that was my secret move, but I didn't use it. Well, we're going to end this show with the boom. So here we go. I thought it would be unfair. There would be. Hey, I'm Ryan Wimpy. I went to a small private liberal arts college and got into green business and I didn't learn anything like they're teaching here. I didn't learn linear workflows. I learned stuff that I'm not using and I haven't been using for the last nine years.
So what they're teaching here is actually way better than what I got at business school. And I went what was actually ranked as a very good business school. The linear workflow, the linear workflow for us and getting everything out on paper and document it is really important. Like we have workflows that are kind of all over the place, so having linear workflow and seeing that mapped out on multiple different boards is pretty awesome. That's really helpful for me.
The atmosphere here is awesome. I definitely just stared at the walls figuring out how to make my facility look like this place. This place rocks. It's invigorating. The walls are super, it's just very cool. The atmosphere is cool. The people are nice. It's a pretty cool place to be. Very good learning atmosphere. I literally want to model it and steal everything that's here at this facility and basically create it just on our business side.

We worked with several different business coaches in the past and they were all about helping Ryan sell better and just teaching sales which is awesome but Ryan is a really great salesman so we didn't need that. We needed somebody to help us get everything that was in his head out
into systems, into manuals, and scripts, and actually build a team. So now that we have systems in place, we've gone from one to ten locations in only a year. In October 2016, we grew as 13 grand for the whole month. Right now, in 2018, the month of October, it's only the 22nd. We've already grossed a little over 50 grand for the whole month, and we still have time to go.

Our business is a dog training business. We help people with behavioral issues and teach their dog how to listen. When I was learning to become a dog trainer, we didn't learn anything about internet marketing or advertising or anything at all. It's just dog training. And that's what's so great about working with Clay and his team because they do it all for us. So that we can focus on our passion and that's training jobs. Clay and his team here, they're so enthusiastic. Their energy is off the charts. Never a dull moment, very thrive.
We've been working with Clay and his team for the last five months, two of which have been our biggest months ever. One, our biggest gross by 35%. Clay's helped us make anything from brochures to stickers, new business cards, new logos, scripts for phones, script for emails, script for text message, scripting for everything.
How I would describe the weekly meetings with Clay and his team are awesome. They're so effective, it's worth every minute. Things get done, we'll ask for things like different flyers and they're done before hours up. So it's just awesome, extremely effective.
If you don't use clay in his team, you're probably going to be pulling your hair out or you're going to spend half of your time trying to figure out the online marketing game and producing your own flyers and marketing materials, print materials, all the stuff like that. You're really losing a lot as far as lost productivity and lost time, not having a professional do it. It has a real sense of urgency and it actually knows what they're doing when you already have something that's your core focus that you already know how to do.
He would also be missing out with all the time and financial freedom that you would have working with his team.
We would recommend Clay and his team to other business owners because they need to be working on their business, not just trying to figure out the online game, which is complex and changing daily. So no one has a marketing team too. Most people don't. They can't afford one and their local web guy or local person that they know probably can't do everything that a whole team and a whole floor of people can do in hours and not just weeks or months.
There's a definite sense of urgency with Clay and his team. I used to have to ride other West people. I mean, really ride them to get stuff done. And stuff is done so fast here. There's a real sense of urgency to get it done. What I've seen from Clay and his group at Thrive is they'll give you a simple system. And it's the simple systems are the ones that people can wrap their brain around. They're the ones that people can work with on a day to day basis.
Hi there, my name is Stephanie Pippkin. I am 24 years old and I own Black River Falls Cleaning Services. We opened in April of 2019 and it is now mid-June of 2020. So I wanted to talk today about the success and growth I have achieved by implementing the proven path
with Clay Clark's team and my business coach Luke from Thrive Time. It has been insane to say the least. I started working with them in mid-February of this year, so we're about four months in of working together and it has
completely transformed my business in pretty much every facet. So I'm going to check my notes here. So in four months my leads have tripled. I was getting probably like two leads a week now I'm getting more in the like 10 to 15 leads a week. I have doubled my number of employees. I'm now hitting the highest revenue weeks in the history of the company week to week it seems like.
We went from about six appointments today as our highest in February to now 14 to 15 appointments a day. And hiring quality employees has become much simpler and less stressful by using their systems for hiring.
I typically only get maybe two complaints a month if that and everybody shows up to work. I just have really high quality employees now, especially in something people typically consider a high turnover type of work, you know, cleaning houses, cleaning businesses. I have amazing employees now and I get rid of the ones who are not so amazing and bring on new ones because
of, you know, group interviews and higher interviewing every single week. It's just been great and such a lot. I don't waste as much time on low quality candidates anymore.
I have successfully gained our second largest commercial client, and that was during COVID. So again, I started working with Luke and Clay in February, and then COVID hit in mid-March or so. So for the entire month of April, we were shut down residential April and May, I believe.
And so despite that, and again, being a new business and all this stuff, I mean, we came out of COVID like stronger than ever and now hitting our highest numbers in the history of the company. It just leads just piling in. And the beauty is when people call us, they're already sold because of our Google reviews, our online presence, the no-brainer offer that we now give to our clients, which is
You know, if they book their second appointment within a month of the first, they get 50% off. And again, they're just ready to book. I hardly have to do any work. It feels like sometimes to actually book people. So that's amazing.
Every week I meet with Luke and it's awesome. Obviously I'm in Wisconsin. He's in Oklahoma, but we have a great time. I know I can text him at any time, call him at any time with any issues I'm having, especially when COVID did hit. They were so helpful in helping me get the PPP grants and everything settled away there and really pushed me to make sure I was on the ball and getting all of the grants that I was possibly able to, which was amazing.
So they've just been such a wealth of information and when I'm freaking out because a burning fire is happening Luke's there to calm me down and back me off the cliff edge and it's just awesome to have him as a resource there.
So every week we meet and we have a big tracking sheet. So we track all my leads, we track my numbers, where the leads are coming from, any complaints. I love my tracking sheet. I know it's probably a little extra, but I love it because I can see everything that's actually happening in my business. And this is so important because it's not like, I'm just saying, well, I feel like it's busier. I know if it's busier and I know, are we making a profit every week? Why or why not?
It's just amazing. And then I'm tracking my Google reviews, tracking my competitors' Google reviews, and Luke is always pushing me to get more reviews, even though, you know, I was not very comfortable with that at first. It felt just pushy, but now I'm seeing the effects of having a lot of Google reviews, you know, a lot to me at least. It's not very high compared to others, but people are finding us on Google and they're already ready to book because of our reviews. So, you know, going for those reviews has been
so integral in having basically easy sell leads. So tracking has been just so vital and I really enjoy it actually. So anybody who is skeptical about working with Clay or Luke, you know, the whole team at Thrive Time, I was definitely skeptical and to me, again, new business, it seemed like a lot of money.
But in comparison to other business coaches, especially like specific to the cleaning industry, like I mean, you're talking like $10,000 a month. And honestly, I feel like I get like that much value out of Luke, just my meeting with him once a week. It's amazing.
And it has just transformed my business in every single aspect. I mean, I always, you know, aspired to be a successful business owner. And now, I mean, it's not even a question that this business is going to be successful, even if
a pandemic happens and you have to shut down. I mean, if I can make it through that and be directly because of them, it is absolutely because of them. Obviously, you know, I'm a hard worker, blah, blah, blah, all that. And, you know, I was made to be an entrepreneur. However, having them as like the guiding light of this is what you need to do. And it's very straightforward. Doesn't mean it's easy, but it is very straightforward of what needs to be done. And I like that. I like having that step-by-step process.
And I love having the accountability because there's a lot of stuff that they have me do that I don't want to do. It's not fun, but it works. And that having that discipline to just do the things week after week, regardless if it's dull or boring or you don't want to do it.
Luke really pushes me to do those things, which I love. I mean, I hate it at the time, but I love it because I can see how it's affecting my business in a positive way. And you know, I don't want to be just good. I want to be the best and I see them as an integral part of that. And I will not be the best if I don't have them with me. So I just, I love having them on my team and it just feels like
the best decision I ever made in my business and I know I'm still really small and things like that but there's a reason I reached out to them when I was small because I want to be big and I want to not grow and then collapse because I grew too quickly without the correct systems in place so
It's just, it's been amazing and I would suggest anybody who's willing to put in the work and do things that make you uncomfortable, uh, reach out to them. Um, but if you are not willing to change the way you are doing things, if you're not willing to implement a no-brainer, if you're not willing to ask for Google reviews, if you're not willing to write content, really, really boring content for your website, so the Google bots find you, um, then don't reach out, you need to be willing to put in the work as well.
and your coach will hold you accountable. I mean, which I love. Again, the tough love is really great. You know, looks like a stern father figure, but he's also nice, but also stern when he needs to be when I'm being lazy and not doing the things that I know I need to do because I don't want to do them. So that's just great. Worth every penny. I mean, I'd pay him a million dollars a month if I can, and maybe someday I'll be able to, but I would just say go for it. If it seems like a good fit, just go for it.
Do what they say even if you think it's stupid or ridiculous. Just do what they say because it'll work You know people when they look at my business, you know people in my town They think I'm lucky. They think I'm just you know things just happen for me, and you know, maybe I am lucky but It has a lot to do with hard work and you know perseverance and you know working till you cry sometimes That's just being an entrepreneur which if you're a business owner you understand that
But it's having these systems in place of, you know, of course I'm going to be successful. It's an absolute because I have all this stuff in the background happening and I have Luke and Clay and everybody on their team working really hard to make sure that I'm a success. And I can tell that they are just so excited every single week when I'm having all these wins and things like that. They're so excited for me.
So it's the best thing ever and I would suggest anybody to work with them. So sorry for the long-winded reply but I just had so much to say and I could go on for hours probably about how amazing they are. But thank you to Clay and Luke and the entire team there. You know, the workflow creation is what it really is, is they're going to look and see every moving part of your church, of your ministry.
what needs to be done, and it's gonna go up on a massive board. And so now what it does is it takes what you know needs to be done out of your heart and out of your head, really takes the pressure, the stress off your shoulders, and it puts it on the board, where your entire team, your ministry can see exactly what you want them to do every day. And so they know this is the playbook, this is what we're doing. And then there's laser sharp accountability with a meeting afterwards, did it get done or not? I'll tell you, it's changed the way we execute,
as a church so fast, and it's produced really an excitement, because people they want to get done, if they know what they're supposed to do, a good person wants to get it done. It's been massive for our team. The systematic marketing has really been like this. In the past, we used to market and we would try something. I've done everything, billboards, you know, ads, mailers, internet, Facebook, but we would run something for so long, and then we wouldn't see that it was producing the results we want.
Instead of staying consistent, we would jump to another horse. Then we would jump to another horse. And what systematic marketing does is it makes you pick some things and stick with it. And then the coaching is massive. And I think having a coach that looks and sees what you're doing.
and can come help you make small adjustments. I believe those small tweaks, once he gets everything set up, those small tweaks can make massive differences. And a great coach doesn't even have to play your sport, right? Doesn't even have to do what you do. A coach has an eye to see things that you can't see, or to see it from a different angle. And just having that extra eye on what I do, and just, hey, if you thought about this, it's making all the difference.
What Clay Clark and his team can provide for your church that you can't do in house and I can't do in house. What's been massive for me is that search engine optimization, how to get to the top of Google, taking care of transcribing all of my sermons to drive me up the list on Google, stuff that I don't think about and I don't have time to do. I've got all these things I have to do as a pastor, right? I have sermons to preach.
staff to manage. I have a budget to take care of. I got sick folk to see about. I have a team that has to do that. You know how it is. You've got to marry people. You've got to marry people. We're never going to stay in a dark room with a keyboard, optimizing our Google presence. And these guys do that kind of thing for you. Also, if you're at a couple hundred member church, I remember how hard it was back in the day to take care of the website needs, to come up with graphic design.
And these guys are available to you for sermon slides, getting that kind of stuff done where you can have a sharp-looking presentation of the gospel. And it takes it off you and puts it on them at a very reasonable price. I really believe Clay Clark and his team can help a church with limited resources in a big way. I know what it's like to be a church of limited resources. My wife and I, we walked into a town where we didn't know anybody. We had a Bible and we just had a few bucks in our pocket.
When somebody introduced us to a couple of families, we started going there. So I know what it's like to be a church of two, and I know what it's like to be a church of 2,000 in two different campuses now, 1,000 apiece, and everywhere in between. If you have the right systems, you have the right processes, and you're really good at selecting great ones, and we have a process we teach about how to find great people. When you start with the people who have a great attitude, they're teachable, they're driven, all of those things, then you can get those people all pulling in the same direction.
So we're going to teach you branding, marketing, sales, search engine, optimization. We're going to teach you accounting. We're going to teach you personal finance, how to manage your finance. We're going to teach you time management. How do you manage your time? How do you get more done during a typical day? How do you build an organization if you're not organized? How do you do organization? How do you build an org chart?
Everything that you need to know to start and grow a business will be taught during this two-day interactive business workshop. Now, let me tell you how the format is set up here to get books.
