Hey there, I'm Paula Pan, host of the Afford Anything podcast. Remember, you can afford anything, just not everything. What? Yeah, it's true. I had some classmates who were struggling with FIFO and LIFO. They called it F my LIFO. But investing is so much simpler. Industries yet paid to make you think that it's complicated. They want you to think they're a wizard. You're not Harry Potter. You're a muggle. Muggles are great too. No one here is anti-muggle. Afford anything. Follow and listen on your favorite platform.
Good morning, everyone. Happy Friday. It is January 31st, 2025, the weather forecast for today. Yep. Some rain this morning. It's moving through high of 66 sunshine. However, once this gets out of here today for Saturday, high of 63, check out Sunday.
bright sunshine, a high of about 70 degrees and looks really nice. Monday and Tuesday of next week with temperature still highs in the 70s. This is just incredible that we go from snow on the ground, something we've never seen in our lifetime in South Alabama to this. Yeah. Yeah. So here we are.
Welcome to it. I'm very much looking forward to that. I'm gonna be trapped inside doing band practice, but I'll be able to look out the window with a lovely weather. Golf is in my future. I need to get out and play a little golf. I bet you're gonna have a wonderful time out there. I think so. You will enjoy it. It's gotta dry up first, because otherwise the balls go bonk. And then they're deep in the ground and you're like, where did it go? There's no roll at all on that thing. Nope. Talk about some slow greens.
Yikes. No thank you. It'll dry out though because you know this rain is moving out of here and then the sun comes out and that's exactly what we're looking for. Now we haven't had humidity in a while. Remember humidity? Yeah we kind of forgot about that. That's a nice but it is back. The stuff that keeps your hands from cracking during the winter months which you and I both have a problem with. Man I mean I've got my fingers the ends of them split like my thumb and my first finger and
yesterday was almost like I had a paper cut. I mean, it hurt like the Dickens. I got them. And that are wrapped up in band-aids with some lotion underneath it, trying to keep them moisturized. It's just crazy. It'll get you man. The winter months here and the heat being on or whatever, it'll get you baby. 806 with Dixon and Vining Parrot Structural Services Parrot SS.com 66826.
Imagine, if you will, you are living in a home that is beginning to crumble foundation-wise. You're seeing bits and pieces of it coming off. You're seeing a little bit of a sinking feeling or maybe some stair subcracks and you're wondering, wait, is this, is this thing separating? Am I in serious trouble here? That's where you're going to call the experts and have them come by. Take a good long look and tell you whether or not this is a serious situation or just something you need to keep an eye on.
And they're more than happy to be completely honest with you, because they're the ones who say, get a structural engineer to back us up on this thing and make sure that what you're telling, what we're telling you is true. All right, we have very much handled the situation with the plane crash. We've given you all the information that we have. More, of course, will be coming forward. And we'll give it to you when we have it, of course. In the meantime, let's cover some of the stories that we have not yet addressed thus far today. Tulsi Gabbard at her hearings says, well, the Democrats are a little upset because
as she refuses to be their puppet. You know, Tulsi was a Democrat, and she abandoned the party, as so many Democrats have, over things like men and women's sports, DEI, you know, men can have periods, just this nonsense that she was just like, okay, I believe in a larger government and a more overarching umbrella of care,
But I don't believe any of that nonsense, and consequently, you've really lost me on this thing. She also, of course, believes in the strong military. Many people are trying to make hay out of the... Oh, well, she was on a TSA watch list. So you don't seem to understand that was fully political.
Oh, completely political. You really not get that was political. That was as political as Eric Adams having charges filed against him at the federal level because he complained about the, uh, the, you know, all of the illegal immigrants being sent into New York City. It wasn't a coincidence, right?
It's you. We're talking about Donald Trump and bringing back common sense. That's really what this is all about. And you have somebody like Tulsi who served in the military, very sharp woman, very bright. Yes, she was a Democrat at one point.
But she was looking at what was going on as JD Vance at one point was not a fan of Donald Trump. Exactly. Until he got in office, until he saw what he was able to do. And while I'm talking about his first term, it was impressive. And JD said, oh, hang on a second.
You know, and it's refreshing to see that somebody like Tulsi understood that. And again, with her military background that she understood, this is not the party that I want to be attached to. There's no common sense here. We're not even talking common sense. I'm going to be a part of the party that wants to move this country forward in a positive way. And the last four years have been absolutely disastrous. So she did a great job yesterday. I thought Tulsi was spot on, spoke very well.
And, you know, these, these, these confirmation hearings aren't any fun because the left is just literally attacks them. They go after everything they can. A lot of grandstands. Yeah. Ridiculous. Way too much of that. Cash Patel got a lot of that as well. He did. Maisie Herono just embarrassed herself. If I were from Hawaii, I would want to crawl under a rock right about now with her as my senator. I would just be like, oh my God, this is
This is horrific and embarrassing. She was absolutely infantile and ridiculous yesterday. And Cash Patel handled himself with a plumb, as he always does. He was the one who basically handled the investigation into the Russian collusion hoax. And I love John Kennedy, who said, apparently we're going to have to get some new conspiracy theories, because all the old ones have been proven to be true.
You know, Kennedy's so funny. Ash Patel was like, this whole thing's a hoax. I'm telling you, there's nothing here. He did the investigation, came out, was like, told you. He was right. Yup. Nothing. Trump had been saying it all along.
u.s. ban on gun sales to adults under the age of twenty one has been ruled unconstitutional by the fifth circuit court of appeals it was a six three conservative which i'm sorry was a conservative majority in the u.s. supreme court that handed down the landmark ruling in twenty twenty two that established a new test for assessing modern firearms laws and consequently look uh...
this thing may go to the supreme court because the fifth circuit is out of texas basically this thing could go to the supreme court and the the question is well can you say eighteen to twenty one year olds can't own guns at all or can you say they can't own certain kinds of guns because the u.s. supreme court is already ruled for instance that i think delaware of put in place a a ban on quote assault weapons unquote basically a ours
And that made it up to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court said, no, they can do that as a state. If that's what they want to do, they're allowed to do that. So I'll be interested to see. I don't think you can ban all firearms from kids that age, 18 to 21 year olds, I call them kids. But I do believe that you could ban some types.
You could say they can't have these ARs or they can't have handguns with a large capacity magazine or something of that nature. We'll see if I assume it will make it to the
Yeah, I would think so, too, that it would make it to the Supreme Court. We go back, again, to that same argument. At what age can you serve in the military? Well, you've got to train with a weapon and know how to use that. I don't know, it just feels a little odd that, you know, again, you're going into the military at 18 years old, 19 years old, 20, but outside of the military, you can't purchase what weapon you want. You're an adult and, again, the Constitution and the Second Amendment,
You know, and I understand states can maybe limit that, but if you served in the military, I think you got a pretty good argument that you should be able to purchase whatever kind of weapon you want. Try to hold these two thoughts in your head simultaneously. People at the age of 19, their brains are not developed enough to be able to handle a firearm.
people at the age of 12 can decide whether they want to be a boy or a girl. All right. I mean, can you hold those two thoughts at your head? I cannot. I cannot. I say 19 year olds are capable of owning firearms legally and responsibly. And I say, they're also, if they can afford to get a sex change operation, that's what they want. Then they are making their own bed and they can have no problem with that. But you can't do that with 12 year olds. I mean, come on, let's, let's not be so common sense. That's where we got to get it back, baby. Common sense.
uh... gross domestic product growth slowed to two point three percent in the fourth quarter registered two point eight percent for all of twenty twenty four which is not bad by the way we're not quite a three
But 2.4% is nothing to sneeze. I'm 2.8% rather for the entire year. Nothing to sneeze at here. I guess we thought Christmas was going to pull us out and it was sort of a record year for Christmas spending. But the uncertainty that preceded it before we got to the election was enough
to make people say, I'm holding on to my money. I'm not doing anything with this. I'm not spending anything. I'm just going to sit on it and hope for better times ahead. The Biden administration caused that. The uncertainty of what was coming was causing that fear that Kamala Harris might
win and continue with the same policies, sort of fostered that as much as the Biden administration loved to tout how great the economy was doing. If you went shopping or you were looking for a house or looking at interest rates, you didn't feel like maybe the economy was as good as they claimed. And consequently, people sort of sat on their cash, but 2.4%. Well, we've had worse. We've had a lot better.
I miss the Clinton days. They were dead. You know, there were actually quarters when we had 5.2% growth. Did you just say you miss the Clinton days? Well, you know, I miss the economy. I miss the economy. I miss the economy. I miss the economy. I miss the president. You look at right in the eye. I feel your pain. Again, to write the ship and to help the economy do what it needs to do, we have the leadership that can help to do that.
It's just not gonna happen overnight now. And he's like, oh Donald Trump's gonna, let's fix this right now. It's going to take, you know, six months, eight months, a year, could take longer than that to begin to, you know, to turn this ginormous ship around and get it turned back around. Biden had four years to screw it up and get us here. A little difficult. It's just like the weight thing, you know? And then all of a sudden, you know, you make changes. It's going to take a little time to turn that around.
It doesn't help by the way that in some instances, not just in the economy, but in things like government employees, you have to back up a little bit. I mean, yeah, they had to fire a bunch of people at the FAA, and now Donald Trump is basically, I don't think this has been made public, but it is the scuttlebutt in Washington, which is always the precursor to this is going to happen.
do exactly what I suggested, which is the top two or three layers at the FBI, they all need to go. They all need to go. And these FBI agents are, I don't understand what happened. You were part of a giant cabal that was designed to harm Trump, to hurt Trump, to bring Trump down. Whether you are intentionally part of that or not, you have to go. We cannot have people like that running the organization any longer, so the top.
three tiers are going to be scraped off and let go. It's about 11 or 12 people that they're talking about. And then you have to start over and hire new people for those positions who are actually going to be unbiased. And I think what is going on here is this is not just for the Republican Party. This is for our country. We should never politicize organizations like the FBI or the DOJ.
I don't care if you're Republican or Democrat that that should not happen in America and it's still shocking to know what we know and what happened to Donald Trump and that yes, it was weaponized. Our judicial system was weaponized against Donald Trump. It should never happen to Donald Trump or any other president going forward. I don't care what party you're in.
This is nonsense and it should never happen. Got to stop it. And Donald Trump is trying to do that and let's hope that it never happens again. I think there's a lot of people out there who say, well, how do you know if it's politicized? I'll give you an example. Bob Menendez out of New Jersey, Democrat Senator. This is a guy who, while Democrats were in control,
was tried and convicted of bribery. It's probably safe to say that he was not politically, it was not a politically motivated, right? They just looked at it and said, we can't have a guy like this around any longer. We got to let him go back when Republicans still in charge of the house. George Santos was a perfect example of Republicans going, this guy's an idiot. We can't have this guy representing us. We got to get rid of him. And they did and he eventually
pleaded guilty and took his punishment for all the stupid stuff that he'd been doing. I'm not saying that only when the party in power, you know, roasts one of their own, does it count? But I am saying it goes a long way. But, you know, I think if they do mount an investigation into, for instance, the Biden crime family, and they find that millions of un millions of dollars was pouring through shell corporations,
How do you defend against that? How do you defend that 22 shell corporations? How do you defend that? How do you defend millions of dollars with no visible skills on the line for you having produced anything? You can't. You can't. So if that is investigated, then I'm going to say probably an unbiased investigation, maybe for the first time where Joe Biden is concerned.
818 with Dixon and Vining, 5459950 was our text line. Thanks to everybody who has been texting in. We've got very, very vigorously active people on our text line today. And I was wondering when that happens. We read all your texts. We don't always read them on the air. Many times we read them and then curse you under our breaths quietly off the air. So keep them coming, I say. John Cougar, Melon Kim.
That's the name he went by when this album came out. Good to decide what name to go with. Later just John Mellenkamp. I was interesting. He, you know, he didn't like Johnny Cougar. He really hated that. So it was John Cougar for the first couple of albums. And then he was like, you know what? What if I just stuck my actual name on the back of it? And then he did away with the Cougar and he just became John Mellenkamp. And then almost immediately after that, I has been.
Oh man, oh man. Bless his heart, as we say in the South. 822 with Dixon and Vining, the Alabama Men's Clinic, would like to make sure you're not a husband if you've got the low T or the ED and you need to get some sort of treatment underway.
Look, how about 99 bucks for your first visit? They do the blood work. They run everything and find out like what's going on with this guy. And if they find out that there's low T involved, then they're able to give you a variety of options on how you can treat that. They look at other things as well, of course. Ed, they've got a variety of options. Hair loss, they've got a variety of options. Weight loss, they've got a variety of options.
One thing that they believe in is a variety of options. It's not a one size fits all place. They are very, very singularly focused in hands on. They want to make sure that you are completely satisfied and that you get results because even people who have been to other doctors and had problems are thrilled.
to visit the Alabama Men's Clinic and find the kind of relief they've been looking for. Five, nine, eight, seven thousand, the telephone number five, nine, eight, seven thousand, or find them online. Alabama Men's Clinic.com. That is time to announce the world of wheels winner. You ready? This is somebody who's getting a family four pack, right? Yes. There it is. Thank you. Family four pack of tickets and a meet and greet with Christian Cage at the BJCC.

So you guys are awesome. More tickets down the road. I'm sure for other events that will be coming our way. But Jonathan, have a good time at the BJCC. You should have a blast.
If there's one thing I know about America, it's that we don't retreat, you know, we are forward all the way. We're always go, go, go, go, go, always in a forward direction. Not so much for Captain America who walked back his comments on how, um, you know, I think Captain America represents a lot of things and I don't think America is one of those things. Anthony Mackie now trying to, uh,
Kind of save his career. Weasel out of that. He's trying to save the movie, which is in serious trouble right now. The presales are atrocious on this thing. Well, you went down the woke road and said something. You don't know your audience, you dummy. You're so dumb.
Now he's saying, well, I'm a proud American. I want everybody to know I'm a let me be clear about this. That's always a bad sign when you have to start with the KJP line. Let me be clear about this. I'm a proud American and taking on the shield of a hero like cap is the honor of a lifetime. This is what Mackie wrote on Instagram.
I have the utmost respect for those who serve and have served our country. Cap has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to. So once again, you're kind of diluting this. You know, Captain America is Captain America because he is the marvel version of I stand for truth justice in the American way. Anybody say damage control? They're trying.
But I don't know that they're going to get it. I mean, I think this is. Maybe too late. You said what you said. And it wasn't a slip of the tongue. You meant it when you said it. Now you're backtracking and that almost looks worse. It really does. You know, hey, how hard is it to say as Captain America represents the values that make America great?
uh... you know we believe in truth we believe in honor we believe in doing the right thing that's what america's all about that's what we always strive for that's what captain america's drives well how hard is that to say nope we have to all of that i don't think america's one of the things that he represents it's just there in the name mhm superman doesn't actually uh... represent being super or a man he could be mediocre woman we don't know i mean seriously and the maki what are you doing here
The Hulk could be thin. We don't know. I mean, come on. This is stupid. Absolutely stupid. There are also rumblings. Rumblings now. And this is kind of weird because we're talking about like a May 25th release date they're talking about. Rumblings that Disney is going to shelve Snow White.
It's all in the ground right now. It's all talk behind the scenes. Little bits and pieces are sneaking out there. They're like, we might, we might just go ahead and put this on Disney plus. We might not put this in theaters. You know, they're thinking about it because it's got such bad press. Rachel Ziegler will not shut up.
The anti-Israeli pro-Palestinian comments she has made on social media are only harming her and the movie. And they, they just could not have screwed this up more than they, than they did. It's, it's a gift that Disney has. And by the way, uh, they're one of the few companies that's like, no, we're going to keep doing DEI. We're going to keep it going. We love DEI. We think it's important. It's like, oh, you're learning nothing.
bad. This is so bad. It's the biggest just left snow white alone. The biggest hit you guys have had in the past two years is Deadpool and Wolverine. The second biggest hit you guys have had inside out too, which did not have a political message of any kind embedded in intent. Do you all hear this? When will you make a fun family movie? When will you learn? I don't know.
Why are you doing this? It's so difficult to sit and watch a company. I mean, who didn't grow up with Walt Disney's wonderful world of Disney on Sunday nights, you know? Pointman viewing. I mean, it was, you parked yourself in front of the TV, one of my fondest memories, the two-parter, the secret of Dracula's castle.
It was something that was made specifically for Disney. It was two hour long episodes, obviously, with commercials in them, it's to it. And it was, I mean, we talked about it the whole weekend between the two episodes. Like, what do you think happens next? I don't know. I was just right in the wheelhouse for that, you know? Sometimes it would be cartoons, sometimes it would be a nature show. But you always get something different. And when you grow up with something like that, you kind of think, oh, Uncle Walt. And then they're like, DIY all the way.
Yes. What if we turned Snow White into a black lesbian? What if we didn't? Just leave Snow White alone. Better yet, do this, Disney. Stop trying to make all of your old animated show and movies into live action movies. Oh my god, yes.
They got another one. Come on, get some creativity, Disney. Start with something fresh. I can't remember what the next one, but there's something else that they're doing that's live action. You're like, why? Stop remaking the old ones. We're done with that. We've had it.
So the hunchback and Notre Dame might be the hunchback. Could be Tarzan. I don't remember. Anyway, what's up 30 talk nine and nine five talk nine and nine five dot com. Stick around eight thirty four Dixon and vining with you on this Friday morning. Yes, some clouds and some rain in the weather forecast this morning. But hopefully that moves on out of here a little later on today and a great looking weekend ahead of us as a good day to

He says, you mispronounced his name when you announced the winner of the tickets to World of Wheels. He was hoping it was his name. Yeah, apparently. Yeah. Sorry. Not.
Jonathan Carson. That's, uh, that's the guy who actually won Jonathan Carson going to the world. It was good for him. Congratulations. Uh, let's see. I had something here that was a pressing import. Oh yes.
This is kind of an interesting tale. And it goes to show that while we've certainly seen a lot of people come over into the Trump camp, a surprising number of people have come over into the Trump camp, including people we thought maybe we'd never see there like Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola, yeah.
and a whole bunch of of of elected representatives and senators who in the past have been less than enthusiastic about Donald Trump who are now like, yeah, go, go, go. We love this. This is great. But there are still a few lingering festering sores out there. You might remember when Pete Haggseth had those last minute allegations lodged against him.
by his former sister-in-law was the... That was pitiful. Yeah, pitiful. Yeah, it was the, okay, so he had a second wife, okay, and it was the wife's brother's wife.
She divorced as well, okay, she divorced as well. Right, right, right, right. I think that's right. No, no, I'm sorry. It was his brother's wife. It was his brother's wife, okay. It was Pete Haggseth's brother's wife, because her last name was Haggseth as well. So Senator Jack Reid, Democrat from Rhode Island, sent out a request, probably not just to her, probably to a lot of people, looking for a statement of testing to your personal knowledge about Mr. Haggseth's fitness to occupy this important position. Now remember,
The FBI had already done a background check today. I already talked to all these people, including this woman, but now you've got Senator Jack. We'd, Hey, we need you to give us any information. I eat dirt. Give me the dirt. Do you have some dirt? I'd like to hear some dirt. Okay. Well, Democrats were playing politics as usual. A sneaky Republican was seemingly working with them in attempts to undermine Higgs Seth's confirmation from within.
The Wall Street Journal has outed Rhino and GOP Senator Tom Tillis, a Republican from North Carolina. Or Carolina, wow. Yes, indeed. Shortly after Hagg Seth was narrowly confirmed by a 51-50 vote, the former sister-in-law made the explosive revelation that someone had promised her that the affidavit she put out would corroborate other accusations and swing key votes.
Apparently Thomas said it would flip his own vote, Murkowski's vote, and Collins vote. Well, Murkowski and Collins stuck to it, but Tom Tillis did not. You know, part of the problem, of course, is that when Danielle Haggseth came out with her claims, almost immediately Pete Haggseth's second ex-wife, she was approached about it. When you think about this, she said, well, I'm not going to comment on anything involving my marriage to Pete Haggseth, but none of this is true.
That's pretty bad. It is bad. But from what I see, you do not have your facts correct. She said, there was never any physical abuse in my marriage. Once again, you know, coming after people in a manner like this is, you know, let's talk about their record and what they've done, you know,
Well, don't get me wrong. I don't want a guy who's beaten his life. No, I get that too. But I think before he even is the nominee, those things are out there. Oh, yeah. You know what I'm saying? The desperation on the part of the left ever since Brett Kavanaugh and they're like, look, we could at least slow things down by having a whole bunch of hearings with a woman who had no
facts. She had no data. She had nothing. This starts having, you know, and again, those that want to get into politics going, you know what, no one is perfect. All of us have done things in our life that we're not proud of, but I certainly don't want it put out publicly like that. That's something that happened 30 years ago, and I'm not saying that about Pete Eggset, but I'm just like, it's so nasty that you just air out all this dirty laundry on somebody.
I understand there's a process here, but to make sure that this is the right person and you're not putting somebody in office, as you said, that ends up being somebody that beats his wife and that sort of thing, you certainly don't want that. But I think Donald Trump putting Pete Hagg Seth out there, the media and everyone else is behind the scenes, but before he even gets to DC, has already aired all that out. They've talked to everybody they know and instead, these guys are like,
brutal it's just brutal what they do uh... tom tell us was worse than brutal he was a complete weasel uh... first off he was on a call with danielle hagseth on january nineteen witness by two other people told her that she signed the statement testifying that she believed her former brother-in-law pete hagseth was an al had an alcohol abuse problem and was abusive to a second wife first up believe makes no difference
It would carry weight and potentially move three votes, his own, along with the votes of Senator Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, according to the people who were watching and involved in the phone call, this according to the Wall Street Journal. Shortly after the 11th hour affidavit, Fox News reported that Senator Mitch McConnell and Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins were likely to defect. Till us still undecided.
Now that makes him a complete weasel because he said he was going to vote against him and then he thought, well, this could lead to retribution. I mean, I could end up paying a price here. It's like, no kidding. You could end up not on any committee worthwhile. You're certainly not ever going to end up in a leadership position on any of these committees if you continue down this road. So, uh, yeah, I would say you're in pretty serious trouble over here, Tom. Oh, so he backed up.
decided he was going to vote and vote for Pete Haggseth, which was basically the other thing is that he made a promise that he couldn't keep. Oh, this is going to open up a whole cavalcade of these other people. This actually backs up other allegations we've received. No, it didn't.
And that's the problem. No, it didn't. Nobody else came forward. Nobody else had any sort of credible evidence or even statements that Pete Haggseth was abusive to his second wife or any of his, any of his other wives. So, you know, this, this desperate attempt to derail people, the thing is how many times are you going to try this? You tried it with Clarence Thomas. Okay. Didn't work. He got confirmed.
You tried it again later with Brett Kavanaugh. Didn't work. Which was awful. Stupid. Early down. Now you're trying it with all of these guys, HEGSeth being first and foremost among them. And it didn't work. I mean, at what point do you put that playbook away and say, okay, clearly. I don't think the Democrats will ever do that and shame on Tom Tillis for glomming on with these two others. Orkowski and Collins, my gosh.
I mean people, or with a Democrat who started the whole thing, by the way, the guy who was actually responsible for this read, you know, that that's every bit as bad that he was actually
jumping on board with that. That's, you know, criminal Jack Reed. They keep doing this. You know, you're, you're going to shoe away some really good people that could be in these positions as you go down the road. Um, you know, and don't forget Democrats, Republicans can do this to Democrats if they take office again down the road and be just as nasty. I mean, this is, I don't know. I think we're just, we're, we're, we're treating this in a way and we're going down paths that we should and you're right. The Kavanaugh thing was the worst.
it was the it was sort of the beginning of the end where they thought all we need is allegations and and you see what happened with the gene carol and a court of uh... not law but uh... a civil court up in new york that i think it's actually absolutely be thrown out absolutely they don't have a sliver of evidence nothing not the tiniest
Is her word against Donald Trump's word? Her word is garbage. She can't even tell you whether it was a weekday or a weekend. She can't tell you what year it happened. She can't tell you what season it happened. I mean, come on. That whole thing is absolutely absurd, but you get in front of the right jury, the right anti-Trump jury with an anti-Trump judge and you're going to get the verdict that you want. We certainly have seen that on more than one occasion.
The whole thing is ridiculous. And remember, every single Democrat that's voting against these people, every Democrat that will vote against RFK junior, every Democrat that will vote against Tulsi Gabbard, every Democrat that did vote against Pete Haggson, voted for the idiot bald guy who was stealing luggage, who was the Deputy Energy Secretary, and the dude who believed he was a woman who was the Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services.
I mean they all voted for these mentally ill people. Yeah, that's pretty embarrassing. That is ridiculous. Yeah. That is beyond ridiculous. You're like, oh really, you're going to vote for these people, but you're not going to actually vote for people who have a clue. You voted for the head of the FAA who didn't know a thing about flight. I can't tell if you was ever on a plane. Did you hear some of that yesterday? Oh my God.
What do you, they should have just stopped and said, what do you know? Do you know anything about your position and what you do? Because every question he was answering, he couldn't answer them. I know that first class board's first. I know that. That's about where it was yesterday. It was like, how does he not know these things? They didn't know nothing.
And he, by the way, left because he was responsible for finding Elon Musk $600,000 for supposedly unsafe practices over at SpaceX. It was really nothing more than an extortion thing. It was nothing more than we're going to bring the full force of government. We're going to slow you down. We're going to this. We're going to that because, of course, Elon Musk was speaking out about
This was a constant in the Biden administration. A constant. Eric Adams speaks out, oh, we're going to slap you with bribery charges. Elon Musk speaks out, oh, we're going to find a bunch of safety violations, and we're going to hit you with a really big fine. You know, this was their thing. They used all of the government as punishment for their political rivals.
And while they were saying, we're afraid Donald Trump might use the government for punishment for his political rivals. You're like, you're doing it right now. Look what you did to Donald Trump.
just about the most corrupt group of individuals you could have in charge. And while you say, well, Republicans can do this, you know, when they get back in charge, I would say don't, the line has to be drawn somewhere. Yeah, and I'm saying they can. I'm not saying that's not normally what Republicans do. No, no. But, you know, I mean, you keep going down this road and making this just a nasty procedure. This is not what it was set up for.
Let's just ask real questions about, you know, are they the right person for this position? Are you qualified as really yet? You know, digging and digging and digging to something that happened, you know, 35 years ago, you're like, what? And whether or not.
Your views line up with mine is not a question of qualification. You saw that with the cotension Brown Jackson, a lot of Republicans voted for her to put her on the Supreme Court. They said I disagree with her philosophically, but she's been a judge for X number of years. She's tried so many cases. She answered all these questions and perfect legal ease. She's clearly qualified for this job. Now, after seeing some of the questions she's asked, you know, during open hearings, I'm like, maybe you guys got it wrong, but
You know, they didn't let their political bias get in the way of deciding whether or not someone was qualified for the job. And that's, well, that's the problem. Now that the problem is some of her political ideologies are getting in the way of her decision. Exactly. As a judge. Not a good thing. That's a problem. You're allowed to be judgey, but you can't, you know, you got to follow the law and the constitution. You could be judgmental if you want to.

All right, we chatter with Debbie Schlissel, our movie Maven earlier this morning about what's at the box office this weekend. I just started by saying, hey, greetings and a happy weekend, Debbie.
Good morning. So I did not see Dogman, which is the biggest release this weekend. It's an animated movie about police officer and his dog. They get fused together in an operation. The screening was on the Jewish Sabbath and I was hospitalized for several days with very bad COVID and I had blood pressure and stuck to bed rest. Yeah. Thank you. But I did go yesterday and drag myself out. I had to get out.
and I'm no longer contagious. So I went to see the two movies that are also out this weekend that are new that were not screened for critics. So one of them is called Companion. And I did not care for this movie. I love a good science fiction movie that has to do with AI and robots. And it starts, to me, the new Ben Affleck, which is
The biggest devil baby in Hollywood, Jack Koid, Meg Ryan and Dennis Kraid's son. I don't get it. I just don't think he's that great of an actor, but he stars as this guy who say he rent a robot and the robot is his girlfriend. And he and she go to this beautiful mansion owned by a rich Russian guy in the middle of nowhere to hang out with their friends.
including the Russian guy's girlfriend. And he has a scheme to have his robot girlfriend kill the Russian guy so they can get his money. The movie was very long, slow, and boring to me. There were a lot of things I felt that were kind of predictable. And it was just, I just didn't enjoy the movie. I thought it was a bore. The idea was interesting, the execution, not so much.
So companion is a thumbs down for me. Then there is another movie called Valiant One. And I actually really like this. It's a very low budget movie. But the American soldiers are the good guys. What happens is a unit of soldiers that are based in South Korea are doing some experiments. And then they have to leave because it's bad weather and their helicopter gets crashes in North Korea.
It says it's based on a true story. I never heard of any such true story and I looked it up. There's no such true story that I could find.
And I think we would all know about it if American soldiers got stuck in North Korea and they're trying to get out. But it was a good action adventure. I wasn't bored. I thought it was good. And the American soldiers, like I said, are the good guys? And the North Koreans are the stark big guys. Apparently, North Korea is the only country now where a lot is ill and eyes, which deservedly so. But I liked it where the American soldiers are not morally equivalent to the bad guys.
and they're kind to people and it was a good action adventure to decent valiant one as luck would have it we are chatting with uh... the star of valium one a little later in today's show chase still really is going to be with us yet so i will tell him that uh... debbie schlissel loved his movie i'm sure that will i thought it was great and actually he is very very good in this uh... very good as a soldier who
feels he's not trained for the mission but lives up to it. I just love this movie in terms of all the different things that the Americans were the good guys. There's faith.
in this, um, in the movie and there's morality and he did very well. So please tell them most excellent. Now, uh, Amazon Prime, I believe has for your consideration. I don't know if that is that coming out today? Do you know or have you seen anything? I'm not not for your consideration. You are courtially invited. No, I don't know that movie. It wasn't screened for me. I could tell you this. I have a little dispute with Amazon Prime because
the studio that's and i'm actually trying to get back on their list the studio erupts that do the screening here in detroit i got attacked by an anti-semitic anti-Israel movie critical i was talking to someone and i complained and they kicked us both out of their screenings so i have a little dispute with them so i am not in their screenings right now uh... well i could tell you this it stars uh... reese witherspoon and uh... uh... will ferrell
And right off the bat, my brain goes, oh, really? No, I don't know. I mean, you know, I could tell you that pretty much everything I have screen for Amazon Prime in the last year and a half since this one set of studio reps was handling that.
i haven't seen anything i really like to have to say uh... yeah apparently a uh... a couple of weddings uh... end up there double booked at a at a destination wedding location which by the way if you really want to make everyone you know and love hate you have a destination wedding
i agree with you on that i think i was like wait a minute don't make me do that how much money to go watch you uh... you're not involved with somebody who you're gonna divorce in four years i don't think so i'm gonna pass on that
I agree. One other thing I want to say about value one, by the way, it's like an hour and 20 minutes. It's nicely compact. One other thing I would like to promote that I started watching. I mean, how many OJ specials do we need to see? But I started, I thought that, but I started watching American manhunt and that flakes American manhunt OJ Simpson.
Yeah. And I learned new stuff. I'm only in the first towards the end of the first episode. It's for one hour episodes. And there's new stuff in there. I have got that saved in my queue on Netflix. I will be probably trying to glance at it this weekend if I get a minute. Thank you, Debbie. We appreciate you as always. Hope you completely recover from the run up soon. And yeah, we'll do it again next Friday. Have a great weekend. Thank you.
So, what are the four good Will Ferrell movies? This is the question. I'm gonna go with them. You got a list? Elf? Okay. Talladega Nights? I love that one. Anchorman? Mm-hmm. Spirited. That's it. The rest of them are just... I know a lot of people love stepbrothers. I do not. I think it's complete garbage. Sorry.
It's number one on the list. Out of all those, of course, I love Spirit of the most, because it's a musical. Tell it again for me. I love Talladega Knights. Love it. That'd probably be a close number two for me. Alpha's number three. Anchorman number four.
Yeah, but I mean, he's made a lot of movies and there's some real stinkers in there. I wouldn't say, for instance, just any movie he's in does not qualify as a will affair movie. He was funny in Zoolander. He was funny in the producers, not Will Ferrell movies though. Hi, I'm Joe Salci. Hi, host of the Stacking Benjamin's podcast.
