Greetings and salutations, my friends. Welcome back to another one here on Inside. I'm CBV, Chris Van Fleet. Thank you so much for being with us on this one. And thank you for making insight to number one wrestling podcast on the planet. If you haven't done so already, hit our running power bomb on that follow button so you don't miss out on anything we have coming up. We're ending 2024 strong and my goodness.
We are kicking off 2025 with some really big ones. I've already recorded a few of them. The other ones we've tentatively scheduled, but my goodness, there's a lot of great stuff on the way. I come to you today, my friends, as officially a father of two. Yes, baby boy, Van Vliet has arrived.
And as I recorded Ask CVV last week, I recorded it on Tuesday thinking, man, baby boy, Van Vliet, BBV could be here at any moment. The due date was Wednesday, December 11th. So I'm like, by the time you're listening to this last week, by the time you were listening to that one on Friday, I just kind of guessed that he'd already be here. But that was not the case.
Cooper James Van Vliet made his big arrival on Tuesday, December 17th, weighing in at eight pounds, 12 ounces. And it just so happens that December 17th is actually our wedding anniversary. So what a day. Certainly one that RVV and I will never forget the double whammy there. The birthday
It's Cooper's birthday and now it's our wedding anniversary. Amazing. And I just feel so, so grateful both mom and baby are doing great. Logan has been such a good, big sister. And thank you for all the messages that you've sent about Cooper and all the congratulations. I love it. And I appreciate you guys. I always appreciate you guys, but it's always so cool when you reach out about stuff like that. If you want to get us a baby present,
Really, all you have to do is leave a rating on Spotify or review an Apple podcast. That's it. It's that simple and you can do it right now as you're listening. But we're over the moon right now. What a special Christmas season. This is going to be for us with Logan. She's just 18 months right now and baby Cooper here will be a week old when Christmas comes around. I love it.
Amazing. And I'm just on such a high right now, not on a lot of sleep. Not a lot of sleep happening in this household, but I'm just on such a high right now. So thank you guys for being on this journey with me. Some of you, since the very beginning, when we started the podcast in 2019, some of you since the beginning of the YouTube channel, 2011, I guess there's even a handful of people that have been familiar with my work since I was on TV in Toronto or Vancouver or Cleveland.
I just appreciate you guys. Some of you are brand new. So welcome. If you're brand new, welcome, take off your coat. Stay a while. We've got tons of great stuff happening here and welcome, my friends, to ask CVV number 62, the Jason Kelsey edition. And if you've got a question for next week's Ask CVV number 63, send it in on the comments on Spotify if you're listening on Spotify.
Shoot it to me on social media. Just ask CBV. Use that hashtag Ask CBV or send me an email. CBV at ChrisFamfleet.com. That's where our first one comes from here. It's an email from Kenny Seagler. He says,
What did you think of Saturday night's main event? I loved it solid matches. Did you catch Michael Cole mentioning Chelsea Green's TNA TV title? I think it's awesome when WWE is acknowledging other companies. I also love the history breakdown of the wing title. It was an all around great show, but was hoping to see Finn win the title, but hopefully soon. Congratulations on the second kiddo coming or already here at this point.
We have two boys and what was already a fun adventure became even better with our second born. Enjoy the time, Kenny. Well, thank you so much, Kenny. I appreciate that. I really enjoyed Saturday night's main event. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. And I think that that's what that show did. It just gave us so much nostalgia from the opening theme song. Took us back. If you're around the same age as me, you remember watching this as a kid.
And it was so cool. Like Jesse Ventura on commentary and he hasn't missed a beat. I will say, I mean, he's such a professionally so good. I will say it impressed me so much because if you remember the interview that we did, he was basically saying, I don't, I don't watch a lot. And I said, well, you got to be back on commentary. At some point you're, you're a legend. You're so good at this. And he's like, I don't watch it enough. I'm not familiar with it enough. I'm paraphrasing obviously.
But he was basically saying, I don't watch it enough to be able to do commentary. Well, you fooled all of us because you absolutely crushed it on commentary. And I just thought that the show was such a great mixture of nostalgia and a throwback to a lot of the older elements that we remember from the late 80s or early 90s with a mix of like the new school stuff here.
And there's a lot of people because this was on NBC. There were a lot of people that were watching WWE either for the first time ever or watching WWE for the first time in many years, maybe 10, 20, 30, maybe more years. And I thought it was a really good introduction. There were a lot of things done in the production of that.
show where they were kind of setting up like, here's the story of this match. Here's why you should like this person or not like this other person. I just thought it was all done really, really well. WWE is just knocking it out of the park in terms of production right now. It's really amazing. I was surprised by the reaction online from people who seem to think this was a PLE. Like, I don't know where that got misconstrued.
People seem to think that this was a PLE, which it was not. This was a television special, not unlike a Raw or a SmackDown. This was just a television show. So when people were complaining on Twitter especially, because Twitter just has so many people that love to complain about stuff, people on Twitter were like, there were too many commercials.
What? I just don't understand that. That's how a TV show works. There's commercials. And if you tuned into NBC, which is a network television network, you tuned into NBC expecting to see no commercials. That just doesn't make any sense. Because you know what else? Arizona NBC?
It's a show that just happens to be, you know, the highest rated TV show of the last many years. It's called Sunday night football. And I can't imagine as an NFL fan and as a Browns fan, which is, oh my goodness, they're so hard to cheer for. There's painful to watch, but I can't imagine as an NFL fan.
tuning into the to Sunday Night Football and NBC and not expecting to see commercials. So I just don't know where that was lost. I don't understand. And that must just be a certain generation of people who never watched Saturday Night's main event. And I just was really surprising to me. Like this was a TV show and not quite at that tier of a PLE, but there were definitely some very interesting things that happened in Chelsea green.
My hat's off to her. She was a, she's my early pick. Go back, however many asked CVVs that was a go. Go back and listen. She was my very early pick to win the United States Championship, which I find to be so ironic because she's Canadian. I know now she is an American citizen. She got her citizenship, but she's Canadian. So the first ever women's United States Champion is a Canadian.
As a Canadian, I just find that this is a nice little, this little fun fact there, nice little tidbit. So that was a, I loved all of the matches, but I think what was, what has most people's focus is what ended up happening in the main event with KO and Cody Rhodes. And the way that ended, Cody Rhodes winning in a kind of a dastardly way. And Jesse Ventura pointing that out. Who used the chair? It was Rhodes.
terrible, terrible impression of Jesse Ventura. But you get the point, it was like a, it's like a three and a half out of 10, that impression. But yeah, winning with the chair and slipping it out. Hmm. Yeah. I also saw someone point out that Charles Robinson's count and I love Charles. Charles is such a good guy. He reached out and said, congratulations on baby boy. Actually, he texted me last week and he's like, well, is he here yet?
Why not? Not here, not yet. Not yellow, Nate. But I'll let you know when he's here. But Charles Robinson was not completely in the ring. And I guess according to the rule book from this person's post that I saw, the referee needs to be completely in the ring.
to be able to make a three counts. So that's not going to be something that's contested. I understand that Kevin Owens is going to be on the holiday tour with the winged eagle, which is I just think going to be a really fun little twist to this.
The winged eagle coming back just as a little aside here was so cool. I love how they teased it. It was like that scene in Pulp Fiction where they look in the briefcase and it lights up. It just reminded me of that and I'm sure that that was a bit of a paying homage to that.
But I like the teas of One Night Only. All right, it's coming back one night. What could it be? Is it the winged eagle? This is so great. It's also just a great way for WWE to sell more winged eagle titles. And they've been doing all kinds of different marketing things like that.
And that's just a smart play from a business standpoint. I don't know if you've noticed this. I don't know if you've been to a live event recently or any sort of live WWE show. So many of their top superstars have shirts that are specific to that city. So if you go, I'm just going to say Toronto because it's my hometown. You'll go to Toronto for a show and Toronto will soon have elimination chamber at Roger Center. And we'll talk about that in a little bit.
But if you go to Toronto, they'll have like, Toronto 3 16. And then they'll have like the Toronto nightmare. That'll be like a Cody Rhodes shirt. And then they'll have like, Yete City, you know, or be like, Toronto's Yete City or something like the some sort of a J.U. So shirt. And then when Brock Lesnar was around, it was like, welcome to Super, welcome to Toronto, Suplex City. Like they're so good at marketing this stuff. So it's like, it's not just a Yete shirt. It's not just a Cody Rhodes American nightmare shirt. It's one that you can only buy.
When they're in this city, kind of like a special, a special edition, you feel like you have to get that. So I thought that the winged eagle coming back was great just from nostalgic, a nostalgic perspective, but also great just from a marketing perspective. I would have to guess that there are going to be a lot of winged eagles sold between last week and Christmas. That's got to be a top selling Christmas gift item now. I would have to think that.
I'm really curious where things go and we can speculate wildly. As my friend Sam Roberts likes to say, such a good phrase, we can speculate wildly where this goes because I don't think things are over with Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes. And if I had to guess right now, I think this is leading to a title match at Royal Rumble because, yeah, of course, you're going to have the men's rumble and the women's rumble. Well, you're going to have at least two, maybe three other matches on that card.
And I think that there'll be a nice payoff here if we get Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes at the Royal Rumble. And people seem to be forgetting that Randy Orton was also taken out by Kevin Owens in a similar way that Cody Rhodes was taken out by Kevin Owens, piledriver. Although, man, it was pretty exciting. I'm not going to lie. Pretty exciting to see Kevin Owens do not just a piledriver, but a package piledriver.
I actually don't know the last time we saw a package Powell driver in WWE. Maybe I don't know. Someone listened to this is going to know the answer. Maybe it's never. But seeing that was like, oh my gosh, wow, that's crazy. It was just like completely unexpected. So how does Randy Orton tie into this whole thing? Because is he just going to come back and be like, hey, Kevin Owens, I'm pissed off at you because I got injured because of that Powell driver that you gave me.
Or is Randy Orton going to slide into some other storyline here? I really think we're going to see something with Randy Orton's and Cody Rhodes in 2025. I haven't been able to quite connect the dots and figure out where that's going to be. But I think there's two big stories for Randy Orton to tell in 2025. It's something with John Cena. I'm still thinking that's maybe an end of the year type of thing. Like I still think that's going to be Randy Orton that retires John Cena.
and beats him. That's my guess right now, but for a year away from that. And I think there's a storyline with Cody in there somewhere. And this Kevin Owens thing is ting that up and setting it up somehow some way. But Kevin Owens has been wildly entertaining over these last few weeks. And I just appreciate that promo style where
Look, I know Cody's the good guy and I know that they've booked KO as a bad guy here, but it's just hard to boo the bad guy when he's saying things that are so truthful. When he's saying things that he's just speaking the truth and you're like, well, yeah, I mean, I want to boo him. But I'm like, what are you saying? I mean, actually kind of makes sense here. So I'm very interested to see how this all plays out and how does Ron Netflix
factor into this. It'll be really interesting, really interesting to see. James Lee left this one on Spotify. Hey, CVV, while watching Saturday night's main event, I saw a promo for John Cena's return at Elimination Chamber. Do you think this is WWE's way to distract us from Cena's win at the Rumble or did they goof up and basically let us know that Cena isn't winning? I would love to hear your thoughts. I acknowledge the OPTC.
Thank you, James. And as I said before, James is my son's middle name, a little tribute to my wife's late father who was named James. That's that's our tie in here.
I think people are reading into the John Cena promo, the John Cena promotion for elimination chamber a little bit too much. I think all they're trying to do is say, hey, do you live in or around Toronto or do you plan on going to Toronto for elimination chamber? Great. Just so you know, John Cena will be there. They have not said John Cena is in a match. They have not said what his role is here. I would assume he's in a match.
I don't think it could be a title match, could be a elimination chamber match, could be any kind of match. It could just be him making an appearance. I don't think it's that. I think he will be wrestling there. But I think that people are reading into this just a little bit too much. All they're doing is using his name as leverage to try to sell as many tickets for elimination chamber of the Roger Center. I think that's it. I think we're going to have to see how this plays out.
after the Royal Rumble and then we'll kind of see where we're at from there. As it stands right now, he is no longer the odds on favorite to win the Rumble. This is according to my bookie. Of course, use the promo code CVV. When you sign up, you've got a 100% welcome bonus on your first deposit. The rock is the favorite right now. Then it goes to John Cena, then CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and then it kind of falls off from there. So much longer odds, but those are their top four favorites.
And I could see any four of those people winning the Rumble. And it'll be very interesting to see what happens here, but John Cena was the favorite a few weeks ago, and that has changed and shifted. And I wonder why. I wonder what the odds makers are seeing here that maybe we aren't. I would be. I know we got some time here. I know we got some time before the Rumble, but I would be surprised if the Rock wins.
I wouldn't, I don't think I'd be as surprised if John Cena wins. I actually think that you could make a really strong case for CM Punk winning. That would make a lot of sense. CM Punk winning had to pull some right into that spot, main eventing WrestleMania, whether it's night one or night two. I don't know, but I do know John Cena is going to be there. I do know that I will also be there in Toronto elimination chamber. It is not official yet.
But since you're a real one and you're listening to an Ask CVV episode, I will say that it is unofficially official.
that we're going to be doing a live episode of Insight in Toronto the day before. So Friday, February 28th, somewhere downtown, somewhere in and around where Roger Center is, details to come soon. But if you're going to a elimination chamber or you live in the GTA,
It's the greater Toronto area for anyone who's not in the GTA. If you live around there, just block off your Friday evening, February 28th.
They haven't announced that SmackDown is going to be in Toronto yet. I imagine that they will at some point. Don't worry. My show is going to be a force SmackDown. You'll have lots of time to get there. That's also the same case for the show that we're doing before the Royal Rumble. You will have plenty of time to go to both my show and then walk across the street and then go to the Rumble or go to SmackDown. Sorry. It's SmackDown on Friday night. CVVTIX.com. CVVTIX.com tickets are still available for the show. Royal Rumble weekend in Indianapolis. And I look forward to seeing you there.
And I look forward to seeing you in Toronto. Haven't officially announced it yet, but I think we're going to do something in Las Vegas. I think it's the Thursday night before WrestleMania. And then I've really haven't looked into it, but I don't see why we wouldn't do a live show for SummerSlam in New Jersey as well, especially since that's where my wife is from. So you kind of just like put those on your calendar in pencil. Like don't, don't sharpie those ones in yet. Put those ones in pencil.
But hope to see you there.

This one's an email from Avery Campbell. Hey, Chris, next question for the next Ask CVV. Let me start off by saying congrats on the new baby. I myself have a two year old and a seven week old and is the most amazing thing ever. Well, congrats to you, Avery. That's amazing. They're about as far apart in age as ours are. Ours are like 18 and a half months apart. And yeah, you're right there. Very close to that.
Maybe napping is easier to come by in your vocation, but you don't know what sleepless nights are until you have that second baby and a toddler to wake up to. Still beautiful. Congratulations. It is. It is so beautiful. How lucky are we, right? As a Canadian Blue Jays fan in Toronto, uh, Mississauga, but you know how it feels telling other people. I totally get that. I always tell people Toronto, even though Pickering is my actual hometown born and raised in Pickering, but it's like, you can't tell that to people who've never heard of Pickering. So I understand we're just coming from here.
Back to your question. I've heard you talk about your ballpark tradition with your dad, but I was wondering if you have a lot of good baseball memories at the dome. Are you a J's fan or someone else? Please don't say Yankees. Thanks, Chris, Avery and Mississauga. I am a blue J's fan. My wife is a Yankees fan. So I know, right? Oh, geez. The A.L. East makes a difficult one. My cheer for one team and she cheers for the other. It was a
It was especially funny when we went to the World Series this year. And she's a Yankees fan. And there were not a lot of Yankees fans when we went to Dodger Stadium for that World Series game.
But she was like very quietly cheering like something good would happen. And the Yankees got blown out in that game. Like Dodgers won by a lot. But she was like very like, yeah, like very quietly here. Yeah, because she didn't want to draw too much attention to being a Yankees fan and a sea of Dodgers fans. I've had a lot of great memories at Skydome slash Rogers Center.
A lot of them being Blue Jays games. I remember going to the, in 1991, I didn't go to the All-Star game, but I went to the All-Star game fan fest and I still have like this little Don Ross card where it's like me, Blue Jays hat, Blue Jays uniform, like with a baseball bat doing the pose. I still have that little card in my office here. I just have a lot of great memories of seeing the Blue Jays play there. I was actually a season ticket holder.
for the Blue Jays. Actually, I was a season pass holder for the Blue Jays. They did this thing for many seasons where you paid, it was 99, no, it was 99, yeah, $99.
You paid $99 and you had access to all 81 home games. Like they didn't send you the tickets in advance like they would if you were a seasoned ticket holder. What you did was they gave you, it was like a little debit card, looked like a debit card. And the day of the game, you did go to the stadium and you had to go to the ticket window and they would scan your card and they would print out a ticket for the 500 level, which is like the nosebleed section.
So insane, right? 81 games for $99. We did the math, me and my roommate, Adam Booth. We did the math. It was $1.17 per ticket per game.
Crazy. So we lived like the building right next to Roger Center. 81 Navy Wharf was the address for anybody that lives in Toronto or anybody going to Toronto. It's the green building. In fact, when you're sitting in Roger Center and the dome is open, you can see it like just it's in left field. You can see the building. So we were like, well, we might as well go. And even if we might as well buy the season pass, even if we don't go to every game, we can just go to like,
Grab a beer there after work or grab dinner there and watch like two, three innings. And then the J's were not very good at this time. This was 2008, 2009. J's not so great. Not so great that season. Not so great in those seasons, period, which is why you could get into the game for $1.17.
But we would sometimes just go in, sit in the 500 level for like an inning or two, and then just like, you know, you know how it goes. You kind of make your way down and you kind of like scope out some seats in the 100 level. And then you walk down next thing, you know, you're sitting behind the plate. Yeah, we did that quite a bit. So those are some of my other memories there. I also went to UFC 129 at Roger Center, which was, man, that was pretty crazy.
To go to UFC 129 and to see like George St. Pierre fought there. It was Randy Couture's retirement match against Loyo de Machita. Pretty awesome to be able to go to that. And I think it was like,
No, it was like 50, 55,000. So a huge UFC show. That's one of my favorite memories from there. And also just to be able to say, like, man, I saw two of the greatest of all time fight live, to be able to see Randy Couture, to be able to see GSP fight live. Amazing. Just like what a card that was. So lots of great memories in that building. Of course it goes without saying WrestleMania 18. I was there for that.
lot of great memories, a lot of great memories for sure in that building and not just not just baseball memories. And I might have skimmed over this. You asked it in your email there, but yeah, for anybody who doesn't know, my dad and I have a tradition, we'll go to a different baseball stadium every single year. We've been to 25 of them and the tradition continues each and every year. So yeah, we ticked off
It was Skydome at the time. We ticked off Skydome. Now Roger Center a long time ago. We skipped, ticked that off before we started this tradition. We started the tradition in the year 2000 with Wrigley Field. And now the tradition continues, five more stadiums to go. I believe we're going to see the Rangers next year. Don't quote me on that, but I think that's, I think that's what we're going to see next year.
big rig 0 3 1 2 R on Twitter says wanted to ask you a question and I don't know how to get it to you. So I'm going to tweet it to you. What's your take here? If Logan Paul retired on his podcast, is he still going to be featured?
on the Netflix kickoff show. I'm totally baffled. Well, yeah, we did see him on the Netflix kickoff show. I don't think that was it. That wasn't retirement. I think that was just a joke. I think what he was saying was, Oh man, now I got a kid now. My father. I'm retired. I think it was just a joke. And I think just a way of him saying like, I'm a father. Everything changes now. He's obviously going to be part of Ron Netflix. That show is just going to be stacked. That show is going to be huge.
I can't wait to see how this plays out. I'm going to be there at the Intuit Dome. Hope to see a lot of you guys there as well. And I'm hoping don't have anything nailed down yet. But I'm hoping to be able to do some interviews because so much talent is going to be in town. And my studio is not that far from the Intuit Dome. It kind of depends on LA traffic.
It's like maybe half an hour ish from where RAW is going to be. So hopefully we can get some big interviews maybe the day before or the day after, but we know that the lineup for RAW Netflix is it's stacking up. It's stacking up to be big in terms of official matches right now. We've got the Women's World Championship, Liv Morgan defending against Rhea Ripley. That's big. Then we've got CM Punk versus Seth Rollins.
Well, that's big. Then we got tribal combat for the Ulfala and the title of the tribal chiefs. So we'll finally know who is the actual tribal chief Roman Reigns or solo secoa. That's big and like any one of these matches could be on a PLE easily. Then we got it's not official yet, but it sure looks like we're going to see Logan Paul versus Gunther.
That's big. Then we got John Cena starting his farewell tour. So that's big. The shirt sounds like it hasn't been officially announced yet, but the rock's going to be there. So there's another one. Travis Scott's going to perform the new Monday Night Raw theme. Pat McAfee returns. I don't know what more they could add to this show.
This is going to be crazy. I'm actually kind of glad that there's not like a time limit on the show. I know it's going to be three ish hours, but I was talking to someone like to say who was talking to someone who was basically like, yeah, you know, week one might be three hours and 17 minutes. The next week might be two hours and 40 minutes because that's all the time we need to tell that story. The week after that might be three hours exactly. So it's going to be interesting that there's kind of a flux there.
show could be whatever length it takes. That's kind of the cool thing. Matches aren't going to get cut for time anymore because it's just not a thing. I don't think you're going to see them running too far over. I don't think you're going to see a four-hour episode of RAW. But you're not going to see matches just get completely cut or a match that's supposed to be 18 minutes is now six. I don't think that's the case. But Logan Paul is not retired.
I think Logan Paul is taking WWE a lot more seriously than a lot of people give him credit for.
And whether you like Logan Paul or not, I really don't care. That doesn't matter. It's hard not to respect what he does in the ring. Like just as a purely as a performer and as an entertainer in the ring, it's hard not to respect that. It's amazing. It's amazing the way that he's able to work a crowd and the way that he's able to
He sells amazing the way that he does some of these moves. It's like he's been doing it for decades and Triple H is set up before, but he has no business being as good as he is. So Logan Paul is not retired and.
It's the other part of this is we're looking down the barrel of a very, very stacked card when raw kicks off on Netflix on January 6th. And I know they're not like Netflix doesn't usually release numbers. Like they don't have Nielsen ratings like any other TV show would have on network or cable television.
But I have a feeling, like when the show's big, like a show does really big numbers or a movie does really big numbers and Netflix. They'll usually release those numbers afterwards and say, Hey, look, look how many people tuned into.
this movie or look how many people tuned into this fight or the fight obviously being Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson or hey, this is the most streamed show ever in the history of Netflix. I think we're going to see some of those numbers when raw first airs like that. That the next day, I think we're going to see some of those numbers released and I think people are going to be surprised because you're so used to seeing these ratings now. Oh man, and did about two million give or take. Rod did about two million.
I think people aren't taking into account that that's only on the USA network. And USA network is only on cable, so not available in every household. The number is going to be like, I don't know what it's going to be, but it's going to be way bigger than 2 million. And I think people are going to be shocked by that.
Because when you see the 2 million, you're only seeing the US and you're forgetting about all of the other countries in the world where Netflix is. So it's going to be a big number. And it's going to be an insanely entertaining show, at least on paper already. And I'm excited to see how this all plays out. I'm also just excited to see what's the tone of the show.
Nick Con has said that they're not changing the rating, but what's the tone of the show gonna be? And by that, I mean, fast pace, slow paced. Lots of matches, not a lot of matches. Promo heavy, not a lot of promos, like lots of backstage stuff, not a lot of backstage stuff. Will it look different at all? Is this gonna look different from what we've been seeing week to week right now? I think probably. And I don't know if you've seen what the Intuit Dome looks like, but this is a state of the art arena.
It's pretty incredible. Google it after this or Google it right now and just kind of take a look. Just Google what the Intuit Dome on the inside looks like. And you're gonna go, oh man, raw in there just from a visual standpoint is gonna be something real special.
Smith underscore Scott 97 left this comment on Spotify. Talking about last week, I was talking about my favorite Christmas movies. And Scott, you said, great episode once again, but elf, ouch. What? I didn't know that it was like not cool to like elf. And I thought that elf was just like a fun movie. How could you say ouch? How are you not? If you like another movie, that's fine, but
Why are you upset that I like Elf? You sound like a cotton-headed nitty-muggins to me. Well, Elf referenced there. And it also sounds to me like you need to take one of the rules of being an Elf. I think it's rule number three. The best way to spread Christmas cheer is by singing loud for all to hear. Sounds to me. Smith underscore Scott 97, that you need to sing loud for all to hear.
Everybody is obviously welcome to their opinion, and that's great. But I've said this quote on other episodes, and I just, it's one of my favorite quotes. It's a preschool quote, friend of mine who has kids in preschool said this to me, and I'll never forget it. Don't yuck other people's yums.
If somebody likes a certain movie and you don't, cool. That's great, man. Awesome. If somebody likes a certain flavor of ice cream and you don't, that's great. That's cool that you like that. That's not my favorite, but that's great that you like it. I never understand that. If you don't like Elf, that's okay. I do.
I also like lots of other Christmas movies. We were watching Home Alone last night, and I've seen the movie like a thousand times, but I always forget just how magical that movie is. And the score from John Williams, ah, chef's kiss, so good.
Dwayne underscore West on Instagram, ask CVV. Oh, wait, this is, I guess you sent this in the last week. You sent it for ask CVV 61, the Rick Nash edition, multipart question. If you could do commentary on a current wrestling show, any brand, what show would it be? Who would be your com, your commentary partner? And would you like to do play by play or be a color commentator? Love the show. I never miss an episode. It helps make the workday fly by.
Well, thank you, Dwayne. Hope that your work day is flying by right now as you're listening to this. It's got to be Monday Night Raw. Like if you're going to be a commentator, you want to commentate on Monday Night Raw, I want to be next to the goat. So I want to be sitting next to Michael Cole and kind of just sitting there and going, how do you make it sound so seamless? How do you make it sound like so? It's just so effortless. And I think what people don't take into account
when you listen in the commentary on any sport, but especially wrestling is there's so many other things going on. They call it traffic, but there's so many other things going on. You're not just calling the action in the ring.
You're calling the action in the ring on top of someone saying, oh, don't forget this match is brought to you by whatever, this brand. And don't forget to plug the fact that tickets are still on sale for Royal Rumble. And don't forget to promote this upcoming match that's coming up later on tonight. There's so many things going on. And I think that people have heard the horror stories of Vince McMahon yelling in people's ears.
Sure, that was the case for a long time, but you still have a producer or a director or both talking to you in your ear all the time, like reminding you of all the different traffic things that are coming up. And Michael Cole does such a good job of calling the match, calling what you're seeing on the screen, which I think is another big mistake that I think rookie commentators make. They're calling like,
what they're seeing in the ring and not realizing that what the monitor is showing is a close up of this or our monitor is showing a reaction from someone in the crowd that doesn't have anything to do with what we're seeing in the ring, but like should be calling the action on the monitor. And Michael Cole just does such a great job of that. I know this was not a question about Michael Cole and how great he is, but let's give him all his flowers. I don't know why for so long. It was like this cool thing to not like Michael Cole. And
I get that people don't like change, especially wrestling fans. Like when something changes, it's difficult to become accustomed to that new norm of, no, this is the voice we're going to be hearing all the time.
And I think that Michael Cole had really big shoes to fill when J.R. left and now J.R.s in A.W. doing this thing. And I think that people were just for so many years comparing Michael Cole to J.R. and going, well, he's not J.R. He's not J.R. No, he's not J.R. And I think we're finally starting to realize now, 20, however many years, 27 years and 27 years has been in WWE, that Michael Cole is really, really good.
And also, Michael Cole is the voice of an entire generation now. In the same way that JR was the voice for our generation during the attitude era, our generation being people that are around my age, 41. But Michael Cole's so good. So I would like to be next to Michael Cole. I would certainly not think I would ever be good doing play-by-play. So I want to be in there as a color commentator or analyst, just kind of like throwing those one-liners in, making reference to the things that I'm seeing,
Yeah, I think play-by-play is tough. And I've done a little bit of commentary, not play-by-play. I did some color commentary.
with my good friend, Brad Gilmore. I did some color commentary at a reality wrestling show, Booker T's promotion in Houston. So if you dig deep, it was actually just earlier this year. So if you look on the reality of wrestling YouTube channel, you'll be able to hear my voice on a few matches there. I had a blast doing it. I also felt like it was way easier to just kind of, you're adding the spice.
When you're the color person, you're just adding the spice. But I feel like the play-by-play person is the one actually like, they're putting together the ingredients. They're putting the eggs in there and the flour in there and the sugar in there. I think we're making a cake. I just started coming up with a recipe here of a cake, but they're putting all of these ingredients in.
And you're just coming in the last second, just sprinkling in. Oh, yeah, but also this. Or did you see this? Or don't forget about this. So Monetra, Michael Cole, color commentary, boom.
Christian left this one on Spotify. Ask CBV, hey Chris, this past weekend, I got to meet and take a picture with Kurt Angle, so I wanted to ask, what was it like to meet Kurt years ago and what's your favorite Kurt Angle match? I met Kurt a long time ago. I met Kurt in 2001. I met Kurt when I was, I was 17 years old. I'm looking at it right now. I'm looking at the autograph. It's in like one of my drawers here in my office.
And if you watched my last interview with Kurt Angle, I talked to him about this. I also talked to Christian about it because he was there, but it was the XFL launch party Thursday, February 1st.
at Pladium Downtown Toronto, which is not a place that exists anymore. But Christian signed autographs, Tristratus signed autographs, and Kurt Angle signed autographs. I met him very briefly then. He was very nice. He still had hair. That's how long ago it was. But he was very nice. Then when I worked at Sun TV in Toronto, when I worked at that TV station, he came to the sports show there called The Casino Rama Grill Room, hosted by Gareth Wheeler.
He came in, Kurt Angle came in to be a guest on that show, and I went over and I took a picture with him, and I'm like, oh, could you put me in the ankle lock? And I laid down on the ground, and I put out my right leg, and he goes, other leg, idiot. I'm like, oh, yeah. So I put out my left leg for him to do the ankle lock.
He puts it in and I like made this face like I was in all kinds of pain. So he was super nice. I mean, he's just the best. Kurt Angle is he's just an A plus human being. He's an awesome, awesome guy. Did another interview with him in 2019 where I was living in Cincinnati and I drove to Pittsburgh.
got a hotel room there, literally checked into the hotel, got everything set up, did the interview. It was like an hour. And then he left and then I left and I drove home. So it's like a seven hour drive there to do with this one hour interview, got the hotel room for like, just to do that interview.
And then I drove right back. So he was super nice then. Couldn't have been kinder. And he tells such great stories. That interview is available on YouTube or here on the podcast. If you want to go back and listen to that one from 2019, but he tells such great stories. And I think that there's a, there's a big distinction between being, having a great career.
and being a great guest. Not everyone who's a legend is a great guest. Not everybody who's had an amazing career and been multiple-time world champion, and I'm not just talking about wrestling as well, like someone who's won Oscars or won World Series or great director, whatever it happens to be. Not everyone's a great storyteller. And what's really good about Kurt Angle, just speaking purely as him being a podcast guest,
an interview guest is he tells great stories like you team up, you team up and you go, man, that time you did that crazy flip off the stage onto abyss. And then he's like, it's almost like putting a quarter in a machine, you wind it up and he just goes. And that's what's so great. I mean, Kurt Angle's a machine. He's not just a wrestling machine is an interview machine as well. And we did another interview was a two, wasn't this year, last year.
Almost two years ago, that was via Zoom. But I do have another interview with Kurt coming up in about a month. And that one's in person. I'm flying to Pittsburgh to do that one.
So keep an eye out for that. And if there is a question, you've always wanted to ask Kurt, drop it in the comments and Spotify or shoot it over to me the same way you would shoot over and ask CBV questions, social media or an email. And let me know what that question is for Kurt Angle. Favorite Kurt Angle match? Man, it's tough because like he's never had a bad match. You really, Kurt Angle's never, never had a bad match.
I think it's matches with Benoit are really his best matches. And I think if we're gonna go in favor, I think, I'm gonna give you like three. Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Royal Rumble 2003. It's so good. Kurt's, really any of his matches with Brock. I think the Iron Man match with Brock might actually be better than the WrestleMania match. They're both good. Like when you're talking about Kurt Angle matches, it's like,
They're all when you talk about his best matches. I know that he's never had an official five star Dave Meltzer match, but he's probably had like 15, if not 20. Oh, man, how many more can I give you here?
Kurt Angle versus Shawn Michaels as well, WrestleMania 21. And I think just a personal favorite, we'll make this an honorable mention because it just gave you three. But that match he had at King of the Ring with Shane O'Mac is just such a memorable match. And it really, I think it was a proving ground match for Shane too.
Like for Shane to try to go through the glass and it doesn't break and then it finally does break and he's bleeding all over the place. It just seems like that was the match that made Shane up to that point. I think it was like, Oh man, who's this son of a billionaire who thinks he can wrestle and it's like, Oh, not only can he actually go in the ring, he's willing to like take things to that level. Like man, impressive. So there's, there's three in an honorable mention for you.
Brian Dowie on Instagram says, other than DDP, who would you call a real friend that you've made in the business? Also, congratulations for BBV. Well, thank you, Brian. I don't want to specifically name any names here and leave anyone out, but there's a handful that I would call like, not just like work acquaintances or people I've met through this. Like I would call them friends. And they're the people who reached out when,
when my sister passed away in October. And they're the people who passed or who reached out this past week when Cooper was born. And they're the people you'll see like when I made the Instagram post about Cooper, they're the people you'll see commenting on there like genuinely like as a friend like, Hey, congratulations. Couldn't be happier for you. So I don't want to name any names here.
But I will say that DDP is one of those people that if you call him, chances are he will probably answer. Now, don't turn this out. Don't turn this into, hey, CVV, could you call up blank and would they answer? Because we did that before. And luckily, Maven did answer. Actually, we did it with DDP as well.
I was talking about a DDP getting into sitting next to me at the Royal Rumble and asking those questions in the press conference. And I'm like, ah, you know what? Let's just bring DDP on here and he can tell the story way better than I could tell the story. Don't. So don't turn this into a CBD. Could you call up John Cena? No, John Cena will probably, you will probably not answer. So we're not going to, we're not going to play this game, but I will say I'm grateful for
Those friends, you know who you are. If you're listening and I appreciate you. And thank you for the very kind messages for always checking in. And that goes to all my like actual friends. You're like family to me. And I love you. I love you guys. This one's from Roger Franklin on Facebook. How did it feel when the undertaker put you over on his podcast and said you were the best wrestling interviewer? And how is surreal? And they just clipped that moment.
from the podcast. I was a guest on Undertaker's podcast, Six Feet Under with Mark Callaway, and they recently clipped that and made it like a separate clip that just went out like a few days ago. I was blown away by that. It was so surreal, number one, to be invited to be a guest on the Undertaker's podcast. Like, what? Not the other way around? I mean, it did end up happening that
Undertaker was a guest on mine, like right afterwards, we filmed that, like later that day, I mean, but for me to be invited by Mark, AKA the Undertaker and his co-host, Matt Lida, like blew my mind. So thank you.
And then like, I went from like walking into the studio and like meeting taker in person for the first time, cause we'd done something over Zoom before, but like meeting him for the first time in person and just, just shooting the shit, like having just a little casual conversation with him. To then a few minutes later, we're sitting on the set and the interview starts and it starts with him being like, I've always liked your interviews and what?
It was just very, very surreal. All of that, that whole day in Austin was really surreal. And seeing what The Undertaker's podcast has turned into, I couldn't be happier for Mark and Matt. And if you haven't subscribed yet, subscribed to their YouTube channel, I think they're well over 600,000 subscribers now. They're going to be at a million in the next few months. And I just couldn't be happier for what they've built with that.
And it's not just wrestlers. They do have great conversations with wrestlers. And I'm proud to say that the connection that the person who helped get Teddy long on my podcast ended up being me connecting Matt with that person to end up making
Teddy appear on takers podcast. So I feel like I was, I was really happy to be a small part in that. But the whole thing was just so surreal. So seeing that as a clip this week and kind of bringing that back up because we did that interview months ago. So to be able to like circle back around to that. So cool.
And Undertaker is ask anybody, ask anybody who has done it and has been there. He is on everybody's list as either the greatest of all time or one of the greatest. And to hear words like that from someone who I've looked up to for most of my life, it meant a lot to me. So crazy. I can't quite put it into words. This whole ride with what the show has turned into.
the show being this one that you're listening to insight. It's been a crazy ride over these last five and a half years and we're closing in on episode number 700. And I think that the biggest takeaway is that
consistency is key, like just constantly showing up. And this isn't specifically a content creator thing. And this isn't specifically a podcaster thing. It's just the idea of like, if you keep showing up, good thing will happen. And that's, I feel like that's what has been happening with insight. And thank you guys for being on this ride with me. It's been wild.
Trenton Rhodes emailed this one in and you know, Rhodes just like you spell it the same way as Cody Rhodes. Hmm. Also, Lana Rhodes. What? For asks, I was just a joke because when Cody was on impulsive Logan's podcast, they were like, and your sister's Lana Rhodes, right? And he's like, Oh, what? I don't think so.
For Ask CBV, the Jason Kelsey edition, me and my wife has decided to go to the Royal Rumble in Indy this year. We went to the 2023 Rumble in San Antonio and fell in love. Unfortunately, we won't be able to make it to the live show due to not being able to leave work until Friday evening. That being said, which is your favorite rumble. Also, how many kidneys do I need to sell to get a picture with you while I'm there?
Happy holidays and best of luck with the babies. Yeah, there's nothing like being at the rumble. It's so much fun. How many kidneys? So let's see. You're going with your wife. So it's four kidneys between the two of you guys. I think just three. Oh, no. So no, you guys will need a kidney each. So just two, just nothing crazy. Just two kidneys total. You can decide who they come from, but just two kidneys. No, if I don't know where I'm going to be other than doing the live show Friday night, I don't know if I'm going to be at SmackDown.
I do know that I'm going to beat the rumble, but it will cost you zero kidneys and zero dollars. So we will try to make this happen. Maybe we do a little meetup at some point on Saturday before the rumble like, Hey, I'm by gate number six.
Come say what's up, maybe we do something like that. But I will be floating around, indie, I will be floating around the stadium. So I hope to see you. My favorite Royal Rumble, that's tough to narrow it down. It's hard to beat the 1992 Royal Rumble, like that's a classic.
flare winning, but if I'm being completely honest with you guys, and I always am, I wasn't really watching a lot of wrestling back then. This doesn't mean to me because I wasn't in it at that time. So while that is probably, and it's difficult to argue against 92, I think my favorite one's 2001. Something about Austin, any of the rumbles that Austin won, but I think 2001 is, that's my favorite rumble.
Although the ones I've been to also have a special place in my heart, I went to 2016 in Orlando. And that was the one, of course, where AJ Styles came out. And it's funny. There's funny, funny thing about Rumbles is sometimes we remember moments more than we remember like the winner. It's just an interesting thing. Like Triple H won that year. I remember that. But what I remember more from that rumble is AJ Styles debut.
I was also at the 2019 Rumble in Phoenix. Rollins won the men's, Becky Lynch won the women's. I was at, what was the next one I went to? I think the next one I went to was last year.
like this year, last rumble, the last 2024 rumble at Tropicana Field, the Cody one. And then I will be at the one next year. So those have a special place just because you're there and you're seeing it and there's nothing quite like seeing the countdown and, you know, counting along with everybody and
Also making the buzzer noise. I always thought that was so funny that you make the buzzer noise. I didn't say who won these other rumbles. Hmm. Crazy. Uh, I, which one did we not do? Cody and Bailey. There we go. Perfect. So yeah, I think, I think 2001 and really just any of Austin's wins cause there was something just magical about you on three times. There's just something magical about Austin winning in that era. So that's, that's what, that's what I'm going to go with.
Michael Underscore Surpreneant on Instagram says, what do you think should be the match of the year across every wrestling promotion?
I think that for a lot of people, WrestleMania 40, Night 2, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, that's going to be the match of the year. That's going to be a talked about match for a long time. That is, depending on who you ask, I'm not saying this is my opinion. I'm saying, depending on who you ask, that is just an all time great WrestleMania match. And I think that that's going to be one people talk about for a long time.
I think some other matches that we'll be talking about from this year for a long time are Brian Danielson, Will Osprey at AEW Dynasty.
Start to finish. Amazing match. Danielson and Swerve at all in. Also just, man, such a good match. I think that Swerve Strickland's best match that he's ever had. And just, I think because the storytelling was so good and the stakes were so high, it felt so personal. CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre, hell in a cell of bad blood. And I was there for that one. And what an amazing match. Great.
It, it's just, it was difficult. I don't know, difficult to be able to realize like the stakes were high for this. Not just because it's Drew McIntyre and CM Punk and how personal some of this stuff got, but also because a lot of solid Hell in a cell matches have happened before. And how do you make things different? How do you go into a Hell in a cell match and spice it up a little bit?
But somehow they were able to do it. So I actually said to see him punk, I chatted with him briefly at that Ron Netflix kickoff party, or not the kickoff party, but the Ron Netflix was like a media event at the Netflix headquarters a few weeks ago. And I said, it's got to be difficult putting together a hell in a cell match when there's been so many before and he's also had so many before. And he said, no, it wasn't that difficult. Like I know how to
What do you say exactly with something along the lines of like, now I knew how to approach it or something like that. And I was like, damn, this guy's good. This guy's good. But those would be some of my picks for the best matches of the year. And that's not an exhaustive list. There's been a lot of great matches. I've mentioned it before, but it bears repeating. We are in the good old days right now.
And I think that when we were in the attitude era, we were able to see like, Oh my gosh, it's rock and it's Austin and it's triple H and undertaker and McFully and all that. That's happening right now. And this is going to be an era. There's going to be a time that we look back on maybe 20 years from now and go, Oh damn, remember in 2024 2025, how good it was, how stacked the roster was.
Yeah, that's happening right now. And it's not just that the roster stacked is that there's great matches happening too. And I'm trying to appreciate it as much as I can and try to be present and be in the moment as much as I can. Nick, the Brewster on Spotify said, first off, probably congratulations on the baby boy. It is. So thank you. How many times did RVV actually laugh at the olive, the other reindeer bit?
So obviously Rachel is, you might be able to hear a screaming baby behind me. I don't know. I think that's Logan screaming right now. RVV won't be able to pop in for this week's episode for very obvious reasons. But I read this to her before I started recording and she's like, oh yeah, like I rolled my eyes so hard.
And I thought I was being so funny. All of the other reindeer, honey, no one ever talks about this additional reindeer. And I didn't realize that this was already a joke that had been made for many years. It was a book, then a movie. I thought I was being funny and making dad jokes. Rachel groaned a lot. And I tried to bring up all of the other reindeer joke. I made that joke several times. And I was always met with
Yeah, not even a courtesy laugh. So to answer your question, how many times did she actually laugh? Zero. Gus Booker 619 on Instagram, please help settle this debate for me. If someone asks you to lower the AC, does that mean you turn the temperature up or down? Oh, that's good. That is good.
Right. If someone says, Oh man, could you lower the AC? Does that mean turn the temperature down and make it colder? Or does that mean could you lower the AC? So like the AC is blowing too much. Could you lower that so that it ends becomes warmer? We talk about this all the time in my house. Hey, could you lower the AC? I'm like, do you mean make it colder or warmer?
This has happened for years because it's such a funny phrase. And I know it's December and we're talking about AC, but you get the point of this. Could you lower the AC? If someone said to me, could you lower the AC? I would interpret that as, could you make it colder? It's a little hot in here. Could you lower the AC a little bit?
but it's funny. Sometimes I say that to rage and she'll be like, she'll like make it warmer. Like, could you lower the AC? It's pumping a little bit too hard. Could you lower that? I think that there's no wrong answer here. Both make sense, but I love these types of questions. These are the questions that keep me up at night. That was our last question. I'll ask CBB number 62.
The Travis, geez, the Jason Kelsey edition. My goodness there. Thank you guys for tuning in here. I appreciate all of the messages about BBVV, the new CVV in town, Cooper Van Vliet, he's the new CVV. You can see CJVV too, right? Cooper James Van Vliet? Yeah, we got a new CVV in town. I got to watch my back. He's going to take the CVV title from me. But thank you for tuning in to this one. If you have a question for next week's
Ask CVV number 63, send it in using the hashtag Ask CVV on social media. Send me an email, CVV at chrisfamily.com or
leave a comment on Spotify. Please leave that baby gift for us. The rating on Spotify or our review on Apple podcast, but I set this silly goal of 7,500 ratings before the end of the year with 6,700. So 800 more ratings to go. I know way more than 800 of you listen on Spotify and haven't left a rating yet. So if that's you leave some sort of wrestling move, leave an elbow drop from the top rope on that rating button.
Leave a swanton bomb on that rating button. Hit it with a running knee, whatever it takes. It'd be amazing to somehow get to 7,500 ratings before the end of the year, but I just want to say thank you for always being with us, for being a real, real one and listening all the way until the end. And I just appreciate you for being on this journey with me. I saw a quote from my friend, Zach Jackson on social media this week.
And it was talking about how like people always are in the mindset of like making changes when the new year rolls around and new year's resolutions in January 1st. First of all, you don't have to wait till January 1st. You don't have to wait till a new year or a new day or a new month to make any changes. You can make those changes today. Even you can take the smallest steps towards making those changes today. But what he was saying was,
that sometimes it's not easy to make those changes. And the exact quote was, not every fix feels good.
And not everything that feels good is a fix. And sometimes you got to get through those things that don't feel good in order to get to that fix, whatever that fix happens to be for you. So chew on that for a little bit. Have an amazing weekend. Be great, be grateful. We will see you on the next one for some more insight.
Drinking and driving is a decision that could change your whole world. Things will never be the same if you ever get a DUI. Because legal fees and time in court are just the beginning. Getting into a crash is another way that your world can be turned upside down.
Your vehicle may not be the only thing that gets damaged in that crash. You can face a life-altering injury or even death, but you're not the only one that can face those consequences. Your decision to drink and drive can permanently impact not just your world, but someone else's world as well. Whether you injure them or leave their loved ones grieving.
The next time you're out drinking, call a ride share, a taxi, a sober friend, or a designated sober driver. The only decision that will change your world for the better is the decision to call for a sober ride. Drive sober or get pulled over. Paid for by NHTSA.
