40: Sam & Pete At The NTAs: Part 2

    enSeptember 17, 2023

    Podcast Summary

    • Essential Platform for Small Business Hiring and Unconventional Dating AppsLinkedIn is crucial for small businesses seeking professionals, attracting 70% of job seekers not on other sites. Hinge uses friends' voice prompts to highlight users' best qualities on the dating app.

LinkedIn is an essential platform for small businesses looking to hire professionals. It's like searching for car keys in a fish tank if you're not using LinkedIn. The platform attracts over 70% of users who don't even visit other leading job sites. By posting jobs on LinkedIn, businesses can access a pool of professionals who might not be actively searching for new opportunities but could be open to the right fit. Meanwhile, if you're single and looking for love, consider giving Hinge a try. The dating app allows your friends to hype you up to potential matches using voice prompts. It might be easier for your friends to recognize your best qualities than it is for you, especially if you're humble or self-deprecating. In other news, the NTAs afterparty was a wild event, and the press coverage was full of surprises. Crocs made a splash, and there were some unexpected twists and turns. Stay tuned for more details on that. Remember, you can catch us every Friday on YouTube, or listen to us every Monday on your favorite podcast platform. And don't forget to check out clips and other content on our social media channels.

    • Different experiences at the National Television Awards eventThe NTA event offers unique experiences for attendees based on their seating areas, from the less enjoyable bottom area for nominees to the most desirable top area for stars and VIPs, with 'box hoppers' enjoying the freedom to move between boxes.

The National Television Awards (NTA) event has different seating areas for various attendees, creating unique experiences. The bottom seating area is for those nominated for awards, who have a less enjoyable time due to the long event duration. The middle area consists of ITV boxes, where commissioners, big names, and agencies sit. The top area, which is the most desirable, is for the stars not up for awards and VIPs. Lastly, there are "box hoppers" or "bottle rats" who move from box to box, meeting friends and enjoying free drinks. Overall, the NTA event offers diverse experiences depending on where one sits.

    • Unexpected detours can cause embarrassmentEven when prepared, unexpected circumstances can lead to embarrassing situations, but our response and attitude can turn it around.

Even with proper preparation and an invitation, unexpected circumstances can lead to embarrassing situations. The speaker, who was compared to the Pied Piper due to his ability to gather a group and move on, had an unplanned detour this year. He missed some box hopping and was late to an event, causing him to miss his assigned seat and feel embarrassed among the attendees. Despite the confusion and embarrassment, he managed to make the best of the situation and found enjoyment in the unexpected encounter. This experience serves as a reminder that despite our best efforts, unforeseen circumstances can arise, but our response and attitude towards them can make all the difference.

    • Proper planning and preparation are key to attending events and after partiesAlways secure necessary tickets in advance to ensure access to events and after parties, as last-minute efforts may not be successful

Attending events, even after parties, requires proper planning and preparation. Having tickets is essential, and trying to blag your way in without one may not always work. The NTAs and their after party were a prime example of this, with even well-known figures like Chloe Burrows and Millie Court being turned away without tickets. Meanwhile, the Staying Relevant team, through the efforts of their "fight hero" Sam, managed to secure tickets and an after party experience. However, the after party turned out to be less wild than anticipated, with the event resembling the main event itself, featuring a cello performance and mini burgers. So, always ensure you have the necessary tickets and don't rely on last-minute efforts to gain entry.

    • Social media and press impact on public imageNegative press can lead to unexpected opportunities and recognition, while staying true to oneself is crucial for maintaining a positive public image.

The power of social media and the press can significantly impact an individual's public image. In this discussion, Pete was described as the "Pied Piper" of reality TV, who attracts attention and gravitates people towards him. During the NTAs after party, Sam Thompson received negative press for wearing Crocs, with publications focusing on making headlines that slagged him off. However, unexpectedly, Crocs Europe recognized and engaged with Sam on social media, offering him a personalized pair of shoes. This shows how negative press can lead to unexpected opportunities and recognition. Additionally, the discussion highlights the importance of being comfortable in one's own skin and not conforming to societal expectations.

    • Sam Thompson's deliberate fashion choice of wearing Crocs on the red carpetSam Thompson made a bold fashion statement by wearing Crocs on the red carpet intentionally to stand out and be different, despite initial plans to remove them for official photos. The media reacted with articles, but the authenticity of the story was upheld.

Sam Thompson wore Crocs on the red carpet as a deliberate fashion choice to stand out, despite initial plans to remove them for the official photos. This anecdote was shared in response to accusations that Sam only wore Crocs for attention and to be different, rather than out of comfort. The conversation also touched upon the media's reaction to the event, with the Daily Mail publishing an article about it. Despite some skepticism, the speaker emphasized the authenticity of the story, stating that they were present at the red carpet event and witnessed the entire incident.

    • The Power of First ImpressionsBeing mindful of your appearance, especially in professional settings, can help avoid negative first impressions and the harsh criticism that comes with them.

First impressions, even in the digital age, can be unforgiving. Sam Thompson, a radio host, unknowingly appeared on a red carpet event with food in his teeth and Crocs on. The internet, in particular the Daily Mail comments, mercilessly criticized him. Despite the harsh comments, Sam found some humor in the situation and even changed his phone name to "creepy pissant," a nickname from the comments. The incident highlights the power of public perception and the importance of being aware of one's appearance, especially in professional settings. Additionally, the comments were harsher towards Sam than usual, possibly due to the fact that best and worst dressed lists are typically reserved for women, and men's fashion is often overlooked.

    • Misconstrued Conversation at a PartyMedia scrutiny can lead to sensationalized reporting, often misrepresenting simple interactions and potentially harming individuals' reputations

The entertainment industry, particularly reality TV, can lead to intense media scrutiny and speculation, even for seemingly innocuous interactions. In the discussed scenario, two individuals, Pete Wicks and Abby Moores, were seen having a conversation at a party, which was misconstrued and sensationalized by the media. Abby, a Love Island contestant, was reportedly seen getting cozy with Pete, leading to rumors of a romantic encounter. However, the truth was much simpler – Abby had approached Pete to introduce herself, and they had a friendly conversation. Despite Pete clarifying that nothing inappropriate happened, the media continued to speculate and even published misleading footage. This incident highlights the importance of context and the potential consequences of sensationalized reporting.

    • Media Misinterpretation and ManipulationMedia reports can be inconsistent and may manipulate facts, emphasizing the importance of fact-checking and considering multiple sources before forming an opinion.

The media can't always be trusted to accurately portray events. In the discussed situation, two friends, Abby and Pete, were falsely accused of having a heated argument based on a misunderstanding. Abby, who was present during the incident, clarified that they were just joking around and there was no issue between them. However, two separate articles were published about the alleged argument, with one portraying Abby negatively and the other portraying her positively. The inconsistency in the reports highlights the importance of fact-checking and the potential for media manipulation. Abby also shared that she had a busy night and was linked to another person in a separate article, adding to the confusion. Ultimately, the incident served as a reminder that the media can sometimes create drama where none existed and that it's essential to consider multiple sources before forming an opinion.

    • Overcoming Challenges and Expressing GratitudeDespite a chaotic awards event, hosts Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks expressed appreciation for each other and their listeners, produced a great episode, and continued promoting their podcast and sponsors.

Despite the stress and challenges of a recent event, the hosts of the podcast, Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks, expressed their appreciation for each other and their listeners, and looked forward to continuing their work together. The NTAs, or podcast awards, were criticized for being a catastrophe, but the team managed to make it work and even produced what they considered to be one of their best episodes. Sam felt guilty for his behavior during the event and sent a heartfelt message to apologize and express gratitude. The podcast, "Staying Relevant," can be found on various platforms, and listeners are encouraged to check out their clips on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. The hosts also promoted Whole Foods Market as a great destination for Mother's Day shopping, and Stamps.com as a convenient and efficient solution for mailing and shipping needs. Overall, the hosts demonstrated resilience and a positive attitude, despite the challenges they faced.

Cómo convertir una habilidad cotidiana en un negocio a tiempo completo, con Miguel Antúnez | Episodio 292

►► https://www.oscarfeito.com/clase ◄◄ ¡Hola! 86: Are You burnt-out or Bored-out? with Kea Meyers Duggan

86: Are You burnt-out or Bored-out? with Kea Meyers Duggan
What is your body telling you these days? It's highly likely that you're burnt-out at work. OR maybe, it's simply that you're bored-out. This week's episode dives deep into the signs, and remedies, for those of you feeling burnt-out at work. IT's an important episode, because we want you to see these signs well before Kea saw hers. Your health, family, and friends will thank you.  This week Erin sits down with Kea Meyers Duggan - a life/career coach, and a professional speaker - to discuss her life, her struggles and her successes, in an episode that everyone can relate to. Erin starts out by asking about young Kea. She dives into what her childhood was like, and how it shaped her into who she is today. Kea remembers watching the 1984 Olympics with her dad, and him telling her, "You can do whatever you put your mind to." She talks how she necessarily understand that statement fully at the time. But later it became a guiding light for her...a way to find determination to do whatever she wanted to do. Erin asks Kea why she went into marketing. Kea explains she almost chose to pursue Marine Biology, and decided to follow advertising and marketing instead. But as she carried forward in her career, she couldn't help but question if she'd made the right choice. Her father stepped back in and suggested she start her own company, because she's be good at it plus she's also bad at being told what to do.  Kea's first entrepreneurial venture was a dog walking and pet sitting business. However, KEa realized that human interaction was key to her happiness (and while dogs are cute, they don't make for great conversations.) She decided to go back to corporate America while she decided on her next move. She decided to start a coaching business, but working a 9-5 job while also trying to run a business on the side can easily build to an unstable point. One day, while sitting at her desk typing an email, she thought she was having a stroke. Luckily, instead, it was her body giving her a big wake-up call - a massive anxiety attack.  Erin asks Kea what steps she took to try and reverse the situation. Kea said the first thing she did was to simply talk to a friend and tell them what had happened. The second, was to take a step back and think about her next move, how to handle the situation, and what she really wanted to do moving forward. Erin moves on to ask how people cans et up boundaries for themselves. Kea says to first check-in with yourself. What has you feeling so burned out and uncomfortable? Then, picture your ideal situation. What would it look like if everything was how you wanted it to be? They discuss how to take a breath and carve some time out for yourself. In summary? Just do it. There is always something else to do, so you have to take a stand and take that time when you need it. They end by explaining how you discern between being burned out vs. being bored-out. Burnout manifests itself physically; insomnia, body ailments like migraines, GI issues. Intense cynicism is also a major sign of being burnt out at work. Bored-out usually manifests itself through signs like listlessness, inability to sit still, being easily distracted. And the only remedy?
