    • Discernment in TruthDiscernment is vital in understanding the truth of the gospel amidst competing voices, requiring knowledge of the entire Bible and an evaluation of teachers' character.

In 2 Corinthians chapter 11, Paul is defending his character and message against false teachers who are trying to sway the Corinthians. This serves as a reminder about the importance of discernment, both in the church and the wider world. With so many competing voices, it's crucial to seek the truth by understanding the entire Bible, not just snippets. Spiritual truth often includes complexities and mysteries. Followers need to look at the character of teachers, compare their messages with the full counsel of God's Word, and be aware of how previous beliefs can hinder their understanding. Today, just like then, it's essential to wrestle with scripture to grasp the deeper meanings and arrive at accurate conclusions about faith.

    • Biblical TruthStudy the whole Bible and respect its teachings to avoid deception. Trusting solely on others’ interpretations may lead you astray from the truth of God’s word and Christ’s message.

Understanding the whole Bible is essential to discern truth from teachings. Relying solely on what you’ve been taught may lead to misconceptions. Teachers might have their own perspectives, so personal study helps balance those views with God’s counsel. Paul cautioned the Corinthians about this deception, much like Eve was misled in the garden. He emphasized that God’s word should be revered and not doubted. This respect for scripture protects against false teachings that can lead believers astray. It’s crucial to remain devoted to Christ and recognize when another message contradicts the gospel. To truly benefit from faith, one must stay grounded in the truth found in the entire Bible, ensuring clarity and purity in one's devotion to God.

    • True ApostleshipPaul emphasizes his genuine ministry to the Corinthians, relying on support from other churches and warning against deceptive teachers. He values knowledge and character over theatrics, demonstrating true love by avoiding financial burdens on them while highlighting the dangers of false apostles.

Paul defends his role as an apostle, emphasizing that he should be regarded equally with the original apostles, despite not having followed Jesus during His ministry. He worked without charging the Corinthians for his preaching to avoid causing them to distrust his intentions, relying instead on support from other churches. Paul warns against false teachers who may appear righteous but are deceptive, comparing them to Satan, who disguises himself as an angel of light. His genuine love for the Corinthians is evident, as he prioritizes their spiritual welfare over financial gain. Paul stresses the importance of knowledge and character over mere persuasive abilities, urging his audience to discern substance over showmanship in their leaders.

    • Spiritual DiscernmentBe discerning when choosing spiritual teachers; check their credibility and authenticity. Focus on following Jesus and Scripture, rather than any individual, to distinguish truth from false teachings.

When following spiritual teachers, it’s essential to be discerning and evaluate their authenticity and credibility. It’s not wrong for them to earn a living, but their lives should reflect integrity. Ultimately, we must focus on following Jesus and the teachings of the Bible rather than any individual. Paul emphasizes that true followers should be aware of misleading teachings and should stay rooted in God’s word, ensuring they don’t elevate anyone too highly. Even Paul recognized the importance of humility, reminding everyone that while he has credentials and experience, true worth comes from following Christ. Always check teachings against Scripture and seek to understand God’s message deeply, enabling you to distinguish between truth and falsehood. This discernment is crucial to help all believers grow in their faith journey without falling prey to misleading voices.

    • Perseverance in FaithApostle Paul’s hardships highlight his dedication to the gospel. His perseverance inspires us to remain faithful in our own lives, emphasizing the need for community, humility, and a commitment to truth in our faith journey.

Apostle Paul faced incredible hardships, including imprisonment, beatings, and danger in his mission to spread the gospel. Despite these challenges, he remained dedicated to his calling and the welfare of the churches he established. His perseverance serves as an inspiration for us to stay faithful in our own lives, recognizing that while our struggles may seem minor in comparison, our commitment to the truth and the gospel should be unwavering. Paul’s humility in sharing his experiences reveals his authenticity, urging us to examine our teachings against scripture and seek understanding when needed. He emphasizes the importance of community and concern for one another in faith, reminding us that true strength comes from vulnerability and caring for others. Paul’s journey encourages us to trust in God and remain steadfast in our beliefs even when faced with adversity.

    • Understanding DoctrineTo truly understand Christian doctrines, invest the time to study the relevant scripture thoroughly instead of settling for simplified explanations. Deep understanding honors the significance of these beliefs and leads to a more accurate faith.

When exploring Christian doctrines, it’s essential to delve deep into the relevant Bible passages rather than just accepting a quick summary or simplified explanation. Understanding requires effort and thorough study. This deep approach helps ensure that one's beliefs are rooted in truth and not just superficial interpretations. It’s important to engage with the material fully and be cautious about whom you learn from. True understanding respects the complexity of the doctrines and seeks a comprehensive view for spiritual growth. By putting in this time and dedication, one honors the significance of these beliefs and can develop a stronger, more accurate faith. Therefore, be prepared to invest the effort necessary to grasp the richness of Christian teachings.

God appears to have allowed Samson to get into a poor marriage with a Philistines to better place him in a position to defeat the Philistines. God does not want us to use this as a recipe to make poor decisions but what it does teach us is that God, despite perhaps a poor marriage or bad past decisions still desires us to honor and serve Him. The only perfect One was Jesus. All throughout history God has used imperfect men and women. Let’s not use this as an excuse for sin and poor decisions but may this allow us to see God is not done with us yet!

Judges 14 God can make good come from even our bad.

Judges 14 God can make good come from even our bad.

Romans 8:28 (LSB) says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”

This does not mean that all things that happen in life are good. It just means that God can make good from anything. This does not even mean that all our choices whether good or bad are of God’s will. It does mean that if we love Him and are called according to His purpose He can ultimately make something good come from anything. There may be consequences for our sin or bad decisions and it does not even mean the outcome was best. There may have been a better decision and outcome as a result. However, with turning to God, with repentance, with a love of God and with a calling to His purpose God can make something good come out of even things that are bad.

Judges 13 Remaining faithful in long seasons of hardship and our expectation of angels and miracles.

It could be easy to gloss over the fact that the Israelites were under Philistine rule for 40 years. Forty years ago Ronald Reagan was president and in forty years many listening to this podcast will be home in heaven. Sometimes due to sin and evil in the world God will allow long seasons of challenges. He is still God, He has still performed marvelous works throughout history and He is still worthy of us following Him to the end. Sometimes reward will come in this life but there will certainly be more in future heavenly places and ages.
