you
good morning and welcome to an action packed Monday edition of buyers in company. We'll have the mayor of the cater with us. Mark
high school football, state championships on the line, line, I snafu. We got a lot to get to. The company starts now.
Good morning and welcome. Happy Monday to everyone. Love coming in the week of Thanksgiving in the low fifties this early in the morning. And that's going to change up a little bit over the next few days. Nick had your three day forecast there. We'll have more of that coming up a little bit later. The program to keep you updated three central Illinois football team playing for a state championship on Friday. That's exciting. Monticello. Mero Forsyth Mount Zion.
all up in Bloomington and I'm not quite sure we talked about this last week you know why I don't get the Bloomington champagne thing you know like why Bloomington would be any better.
It's just a turn, probably. I mean, Bloomington's like, hey, we got a pretty nice place. Come on up here. No, I get that. But I mean, if you're coming down from Chicago or up from southern Illinois, really, there's not that much difference between Bloomington and Champagne, as far as being in the middle of the state. They get kids get a blast playing over there at Memorial Stadium. Nothing wrong with ISU. It's just got quite the same thing.
But anyway, quicker drive, I guess, for the broadcasters, or at least the people here, indicator. So congratulations to all of them. I just thought that I don't know. It was the last time we had three teams playing for a state championship. I certainly remember two, but I don't remember three. I'm sure it's happened before.
No answer to that. I remember the same two. I don't remember their being three. OK, so they're playing at interesting times. If you look at what's happening as far as Friday is concerned, I think Marola foresight or maybe Monticello has the first game and then Marola and the mountains. I think like seven o'clock at night.
uh, which is a long day for, you know, coming after the trip to fan turkeys and all the stuff, you know, Thanksgiving seven o'clock on a Friday night. They're rolling out. It's Friday night lights. That's prime time. Is it? Yeah, it's a good that time day after Thanksgiving. So they're all playing on a Friday at ISU. Sorry. I'm looking for the story here as I got just sent way too much to myself.
over the weekend. Congratulations to Max Verstappen for a fourth world title and to George Russell for the, I mean, not even close victory in Las Vegas. Louis Hamilton had a great race, you know, a lot to get to in that in a little bit as well. Auction coming up tomorrow, get some preview items we'll go over, which is very, very cool. Lots of chances to get great deals. I was looking through some of the stuff that was sent to me over the weekend or last night and I thought, OK,
got a couple of check marks by some things. Very nice. I don't want to take anybody else's chance away to get it. But if it's left over or not grabbed during a segment, it'll go thinking about it. All right. So here are the high school matchups as far as
The IHSA is concerned. You've got the payloads, heights, Christian, or Chicago Christian, which is a 12-in-one team ranked number six versus number two, Merle Forsyth, also a 12-in-one team at 1 p.m. on Friday.
You've got Lombard Mantini at 11 and two ranked number nine versus number six Monticello also an 11 to team at four p.m. on Friday. And then as I mentioned, the later game, Chicago to Paul 10 and three, they're a ninth ranked team against 12th ranked Mount Zion, also 10 and three at seven p.m. on Friday. So back to back to back state championship games. That's great.
That's great. I know there are people that spend the whole day at the stadium, you know, and watch all the all the football. Some of them are scouts, some of them are recruiters, some of them are just football fans. You can go back Saturday too, because there's games on Saturday as well. They get the 6A and the 5A, 6A and 7A will be an 8A will be on Saturday there. So it's busy a couple of days.
for the IHS say. And I hope all three win. Good luck to everybody. The Monticello team, the Mount Zion team and the Mero foresight team. I remember seeing Lovey Smith at the on the field around the time of the Meroa and St. Teresa when they played two separate games there.
And I wonder what he was doing. He wasn't recruiting, obviously, because it's not what he did there. I know he's working out, walk out and go take a look at the action, right? I mean, I would think though, maybe you're looking at maybe not actually recruiting, but looking at maybe people you missed or somebody that's whatever. I mean, a lot of football going. Another coach would probably take that as an opportunity to maybe see some players.
still taking the lovey digs all these years later. Speaking of lovey, another heartbreak day for bears fans everywhere. I almost gave up on that game. I didn't give up on the game. I watched the game and after the game, which I had given up on the game. Yeah, I love their helmets. Jersey throwback stuff. Yeah. Man, good teams figure out ways to win teams that are not good or haven't crossed the line of being good.
find ways to lose. This happens. There was so many opportunities, you know, particularly, I mean, you see the Vikings do something really stupid, you know, with the onside kick and then you get the field goal, you tie it up, go it over time. I don't know. I just that team just seems destined to lose no matter what, no matter how close, no matter how much they seem like they're in it, they just sort of find a way to lose.
You know, there was a sequence a very I was it was important, but not one that would make ESPN or anything where they were going for fourth and short near the goal. You know, probably in the red zone or so missed it. Turn the ball over. I was getting my shoes, leaving this family event.
And then as I was walking out the door, I saw that they got the ball back like in a minute or two, like good defensive stand. I'm like, that's why the fans are so upset because you know that you can be right in it, that you can, that you can miss at the goal and then come back, make a stand and then march back down. And it's like, all right, cool. They're
pretty decent team. The good ones punch it in evidently. And I don't know if that's phishing, you know, or if that's just sort of a player here or there or there's a smidge away from being. I still believe that young quarterback has the great player in the NFL. I don't know that their coach has a great future in the NFL because it's like the judging fire everybody, you know, until you're done with everything and then start over. I don't know.
Yeah, they still got a ways to go in New York on their start over. Basically having to eat millions and millions of dollars next year when their quarterback goes away. Yeah, the NFL, the worst thing you want to be is right in the middle. You'd rather be at the bottom. Really? Yeah, because if the Jets in the middle,
They're not. The bears are that you want to be in. You want to be drafting high or you want to be playing in the playoffs. You don't want to be sitting there just out of the playoffs or getting 10 minutes of fame in the players. They're at the bottom of the NFC nor they're four and seven. I don't know that they're, I would call that the middle. Yeah. The other, their record is actually pushing them back always. Yeah.
You got the Lions at 10 and 1, the Vikings at 9 and 2, the Packers at 8 and 3. I mean, they're the standout in that actual division of just being bad or at least losing badly in games that they could have won. That's true. They are closer to the tail end of the draft or the front end of the draft.
than you would think. I mean, for team with that much time. Well, why start winning now? Right. Let's call this a rebuilding year and rebuild that coach right out of town. All right. A little later today, it's going to be great. We've got the auction tomorrow. So the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation will be in today at eight o'clock and we have a great
You know, when we hand out all the scholars, I say we, I don't know why it's them here with us. So I guess it is we will be handing out all of those scholarships. They're going to be announcing them live at 8 a.m. this morning. Joe Reedy will also be in from the making a pilot regional office of education. And they're going to talk about adult scholarships and 13 new spring semester scholarships.
We have a whole list of people who are going to be benefiting from their generosity today, starting at 8 o'clock. Speaking of generosity, Friday, and there's a story on nadicated.com. If you'd care to go take a look, went to Northeast Community Fund. ADM had employees their all day packing the Thanksgiving baskets that the food drive helped to fund. And it was just packed. There were 20 or so ADM volunteers that were there in shifts.
during the day. And I thought, you know, they'll do like a box. I mean, like Thanksgiving boxes, but actually people got to like wheel carts through and get them loaded up with all of the items, like kind of like go from station to station like a grocery store. Oh, wow. That's pretty cool.
And I got a chance to visit with Joe Green, not mean Joe Green. This is kind of giving and volunteering Joe Green from ADM who was there talking about the morale and giving back to the community. And the irony is they gave well over $200,000 to the 2024 WSOY Community Food Drive, which provides 75% of the Northeast Community Fund Thanksgiving Basket project. And they're giving out, I talked to Angel from Northeast as well,
200 boxes a day. Wow. And they believe that they'll give away somewhere between 3,500 and 4,000 boxes leading up to this week. That's a that's an amazing feat and an important one to all those people. It's unbelievable. I just
You know, it's inspiring. It's sad. It's all of these things all wrapped up into one emotion when you have about food and hunger and people being food insecure. And it's eye opening to go see for sure. And it's
In some ways, heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. I don't even know how to describe the emotion, you know, when you go in and you see people, you know, I went right after the show, maybe nine 30 Friday morning and there were probably a hundred people there.
Wow. I mean, just lined up ready to go get the cards filled and go out. And I want to thank all the folks at ADM and ADM cares specifically because, you know, some people would say and I would be one of them that it's enough just to fund a whole bunch of this stuff, but then to fund and actually go do the work. Pretty impressive.
Yeah, that's, that's amazing. Great, great work on their part for sure. Okay, we've got a lot to get to here on this action-packed Monday. Dr. J will join us a little later. We'll check in with Mark Topper. And then as I mentioned before, Andrea Gerhard and Jill Reedy will be in from the regional office of education and the Heartland or the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation. We'll give away and announce all of those grant recipients.
for scholarships a little later in the program. Here's Nick with your three day forecast. We'll be back with more right after this. Today, we've got some patchy drizzle till around 9 a.m. Mostly cloudy and windy temperatures dipping to 45 by 5 p.m. Tonight, mostly cloudy, then clear low around 27.

you're listening to fires and company streaming live at now. Decatur dot com. All right. Good morning and welcome. We're back here on a Monday. So there was this huge snafu on Saturday on the air with the fighting line. I football transitioning into fighting line. I basketball and I first started, you know,
Here's what you get an email, a text, whatever, several variations. Evidently, the game ran along the football game. I was watching it on Peacock, but it went long on the station and it cut out on that touchdown drive to go to the men's basketball game, which is
not at all ideal. I mean, the beginning of a basketball game versus the end of a very exciting come from behind touchdown win football game is the exact opposite as the way you would want to do it. So you start getting this stuff. You're like, OK, I don't know.
I don't have any idea. I'm not. That's not my thing. I don't do that. Lindsay was getting, you know, an email or two, you know, like, well, that's certainly not her thing. But when you're the people who've been out front for a long time, you're the one that gets contacted. Like there's a little guy you can just like, you know, activate from home on a Saturday. Now it turns out
per Robert that evidently this exact same thing happened to everyone because it was the Alignite Network.
who thought that they would have had plenty of time in between and evidently no one checked. So Brian Barnhart, I mean, on the station, he's on calling the game, went to the basketball game as everyone did because of this automation, which is to me, I know it saves money and people in this industry are so cheap about, you know, and evidently across all of the platforms where this is the kind of thing that you get. Exciting drive.
score touchdown win the game or the opening minutes of a basketball game that people aren't all that excited about. And you end up with this.
That's a bummer. We've all we've all been there. You know, the Heidi game was the most famous one. But there were actual people there at that time. Someone made a human decision, you know, at the time live. Well, we'll go to this. That's even way worse. Goodness. So here was the line. I feel it's due to the Illinois Rutgers game. And I love how this is worded as well. Game going away longer than expected. I don't even know what that means.
And I think what that means is this game should have been done. We should have also had time to talk about the game and all this. And we would button we would leave from the fluff after the game. So way longer in that in that sense. Yeah. Not just the actual game clock. But here's the full response. And I'm not doing this to throw anybody else under the bus. Just this is what happens when you go to automation and then you're automated on another end of automation outside of your control.
Due to the Illinois Rutgers game going way longer than expected, affiliates were transferred to the men's basketball game at 3 p.m. Central time.
The original plan was to ensure all affiliates could carry football and men's basketball simultaneously today. So we eliminated post game from football and pregame from men's basketball for timing purposes. We calculated the game would be over in time to hit basketball at 3 p.m. for the start. We could not have predicted that the football game went as long as it did. We were cautious in the future. And thank you all for carrying the aligning during the busy time of year. Thank you. OK.
First of all, this is a scheduling thing. You know, you would think that the Alainai, I mean, you can't predict a football game will go long. I don't even understand what that means. They go along all the time. And no one's wildest imaginations when a game lasts longer than what we thought happens all the time. So this begins with sort of an Alainai scheduling thing where you got a basketball game and a football game kind of back to back with not a lot of room to spare.
That's scheduling done with the Alignite network, carrying it, right? Sure. And then your affiliates, you know, who are contractually obligated to carry football and basketball, which we are happy to do puts everybody in a bad spot. And then you go, we could never predicted the game would go wrong. That just seems silly to me. Of course you could. You go to said, Hey,
We didn't schedule this. That's the alignment, but pretty close together here, not a lot of leeway. You knew it was going to be close because you cut out the post game and you cut out the pregame. Yeah, that's right. You trimmed all the extras you had.
Uh, maybe what the prediction that they, they couldn't have known was that the line of football team would be this good and anybody would care. Maybe that's probably the prediction. I apologize on behalf of the station, you know, if you were listening and certainly that's frustrating to go, uh, to an exciting end of a football game that you don't get it here to the boring beginning of a basketball game. And it
You would like to think it wouldn't have happened in the old days because we would have had somebody here and they would have had somebody there and there would have been actual bodies. But this is what automation looks like in 2024. But it happened in the entire Alinai network. So if you were listening anywhere, I know it's I know it's no consolation, but everyone went through the same experience. Now, you got every bit right to like be angry about that. But then I saw a post somebody wasn't even listening complaining about it. I was like, OK, now now you're just jumping in.
This didn't impact you. Well, after the fact, I'm, I feel, but to everyone else, to everyone else, our apologies. I did this is like, I've been in this game for a long time. And it was way better when there were more people way better. We're going to take a break. When we get back here, a lot to get to news is coming your way now.
This is RJ Christ with your stories now brought to you by Jesse Heating at Air, great products and great people treating you the way you want to be treated since 1979. Former longtime Chicago Alderman Danny Salise took the stand last Thursday in the Michael Madigan trial. Salise began cooperating with the FBI in 2016 after agents approached him with evidence he'd been accepting bribes. The FBI became interested in Madigan a year later when the then house speaker called Salise and asked for an introduction to a real estate developer.
Acting on direction from the government, Solis told Matigan the developer understood it would get the necessary zoning approvals from the city in exchange for contracting with the speaker's law firm. While that wasn't true, prosecutors allege Matigan's actions pursuing the developer's business amounted to bribery and extortion.

good morning and happy Monday. Kevin's a little under the weather day. Not in studios. Hopefully be back on his feet for the Thanksgiving luncheon tomorrow, which will be fun. to get up Sunday morning and not look at anything or not see anything and I got I got bombasted by a push notification. From who? A thing I'd forgotten about that just it just popped up. Oh man. Yeah. So I know well, there wasn't a lot of detail. So, you know, I knew two things.
before I watched the race. I knew George Russell was a winner and I knew Max Verstappen was a four time. Well, no, it's not everything. There's a lot of the reason you watch a race isn't just the winner and the, you know, it's all the others to me. Anyway, all the fun stuff that happens in between is Lewis Hamilton going from, you know, 10th to 2nd.
You know, it's the fights within the fights. You know, the Constructors Championship point totals and one racer could mean $10 million in one point between one, you know, middle of the pack team and another middle of the pack team. To me, there's all kinds of stories. I mean, there are, but there's a reason why those two things came in your push. Oh, I guess. Yes. But I wanted the whole experience. I wanted the after the fact. I mean, the push notification couldn't give me an incredibly awkward, uncomfortable Terry Cruz doing the interviews after the race. Yeah, that was weird.
Um, not any, any more weird than Carlos signs completely ignoring his team. Oh my God. He did. Okay. If you're Carlos signs and I knew that you would feel this way and I understand because that's what happened. Okay. But why would he care what they think about him at all for anything? They've dumped him. I mean, sure. So he's going to be team player. I mean, well, yeah, you would think so. Why?
Just self-preservation. What does he want his brand to be known as? How does he want to be his brand is to be I'm on the podium
sure. Okay. No, I mean, I get why you would be mad. I mean, I'm just saying, I don't, what does he owe them in the middle of the sea? I mean, they just unceremoniously dumped him. He's got a race for them the entire year that those two guys have been fighting off and on for the whole time, but generally seem to kind of over all of that get along and, you know, pretty good, but they've always been doing that. I mean, always.
Yeah. I mean, out there and blew his tires, you know, trying to do what he was, and I get it, trying to do what he couldn't do it. And then Carlos is supposed to, I do what I at this point, if you were on your way out the door and two races, what would you do?
I mean, there's there's one. I don't know. I mean, what would I do? I would probably do what the team that I'm on. But then I saw Fred Viser's comments afterwards and it didn't seem to match up with that. I don't know why he's being a diplomat at this point. I mean, it is what it is. You've got two races left. I think he's trying to be a diplomat because I think the idea that drivers wanting to come there
are going to want to feel supported in particular. Their next lineup needs to feel like it's they're going to be on the same page. Dude, if you think you've got fighting now, I just I feel so bad for you next year. I mean, that's that's secondary to what I just said. I think that the idea is even if they're going to come in and fight in the entire time, it's probably in the best interest of the Ferrari boss to say, Hey, this is a team over here. Okay. So, so what should
So you think Leclerc's car was faster than Carlos? He was putting up the limits. Also, more importantly, Leclerc has a shot at number two on the, on the standings. The science doesn't. It's just what the team wanted. All right. Why couldn't he catch him then? Well, he finished three and a half seconds behind.
Well, they ended up, he was burning his tires to try to pass, which would have been the best case scenario. When that didn't happen, a little nudge from his part, his teammate would have corrected that. Also his teammate kind of glummed him up and kept him back a little bit. It's just be clear. But well, if it kept him back, how does he win by four seconds?
Well, you know how this thing works, Brian, the opportunities are where they are. You know, if you, if you don't get it in that window, sometimes you end up way back. Look, being a good teammate does nothing for you, you know, as far as the team keeping you around. I mean, there's never been a better teammate than Sergio Perez. And all he's had to do is deal with crap for the last two years when he finished second in the, in the, in the track for his ranking.
And all year was being threatened to be cut. So that good guy stuff. And I think that was draw's point is I'm a good guy. I tried to play by the team rules, but I've seen him do similar things. Oh, come on. You're telling me that all the fighting between the two Ferrari drivers is all Carlos sides. I like Carlos signs. He's probably like my third favorite driver or so. But yeah, pretty much. I mean, it's not even really a secret. Okay. If somebody said to you,
like literally you came in the show tomorrow morning we said you have to do this for a year and then we're firing you and we know we're firing you and we don't like you because we think there's somebody better you'd sit here for a year and be loyal
I mean, it depends on what, what it is that I'm trying to do. When I leave, if I ruin, if I ruin the thing that I'm about, there's nobody going to ruin this is what they're all about. This fighting stuff is what the whole sport is about. You're acting like it's going to ruin the reputation. The fourth time now world champions reputation is I'll run you over. I mean, I don't know
score that way. It's not like that's going to keep him from the job at Williams. It's not like fun over at Williams. They look like they're well on their way. Have fun Carlos. Ignore team orders over there. Oh God. This team order stuff. It's going to be the end of McLaren and it's going to be a mess next year because there's no way. And although I believe your guy is at this stage of the game, a better driver than Lewis Hamilton, there is no way Lewis Hamilton is walking into Ferrari next year as second fiddle.
I mean, you may think that. I think he's well aware that he is. And he's going to have the opportunity to fight for number one. OK. That's the reality of where he is in his career. OK. And I hope he gets. I mean, look, if he ends up being the top driver, that's not a problem for her. No. But let's go. He thinks he is the top driver. Well, I think he's a little more self-aware than you give him credit for. OK. Yeah, the best teammate.
probably of all time in Valkyrie Botos and they still had there. I'm just telling you, this is part of it. I don't know. Maybe the race would have been different. You know, whoever gets third or fourth. I don't know what's the point difference. You'll be between third and fourth. I mean, other than the podium and the trophy, what I mean, what's like a dozen points or I don't think it's quite that. I hate someone there, but a decent amount. Okay.
that, that he could have with one move, helped, helped out his boy, you know, but that's okay. Helped out or did it. I mean, there, and that's also something to explain to non F one fans, meaning sacrifice yourself to give something to the other guy. It's not blocking. It's like literally no, I'll pull up so that he can go forward. There's a difference there. Sure. I mean, I think in most sports,
Yeah, I mean, this is what it is. It's a team game to a degree. But for the driver, it's it's you versus 19 other people. I understand it. Where is I'm sorry. I was just looking at the point standings. He is 30 points behind Lando Norris. Yeah. With two races left. So I don't know, you know, maybe.
who knows what land. Not a clue. And they're and to be completely honest, they, this doesn't come into play, but they, they're, they're kind of gunning for the team championship, the constructors championship. This wouldn't have changed that because they would have been in the same spot. Yeah, that doesn't change anything. No, I mean, so, so realistically, the idea is, you know, we're marching at a team game right now. This is a big deal for us. So,
you know, a guy that doesn't want to, that it's not buying in his problem. Yeah, we'll see. With two races left, I don't know how much that's going to change at the, the top right now. McLaren has a pretty healthy lead over both Ferrari and Red Bull with Mercedes coming up behind quite a bit behind Red Bull in fourth. They took a chunk out this week and a big chunk. They did, but they're still, they'd have to take a
I don't even know if they could do it even with two more big chunks with two races remaining. It would be close to get third. Yeah. So the battle's on. We'll see. I thought it was a good race though. I mean, it might be my favorite race now. I love the look of it. Yeah. But I thought the race itself was fun. That's what I mean. I think that it's set up for the take the takeovers. I think it is.
beautiful to look at. I like the super fast drag racing they have. And then, and then the quick turns that they have to do that they might literally eat a wall as such a slick track. I mean, they were just eating up tires. I mean, and not like the normal degrading of tires. I mean, they were like, I mean, they were like done in like cold. Yeah. I love it. I think it's a fun, fun addition to the, to the circuit. This year felt like not all of the other
goofy stuff around it, like to where the drivers had more fun because there wasn't all of the expectations of doing the DJ show and put them on top of the thing. I mean, like there was, there seemed to be less of that and more just about the race. And there's plenty of other pomp and circumstance in that city, just in general.
Checo and one other driver. I can't remember which one said they walked around and it was very, very noticeable. The smell of weed in Las Vegas. Calam Pinto said if your drug test is tomorrow, all of us are going to flunk. I don't. This is the thing.
where like public smoking got to a point where it's like no you go over there to that very specific area because the rest of us don't want to smell that. And now weed and vaping is like like in some other category of like well it's legal. It's down and it comes down to enforcement realistically.
that should be happening over in those sections too, or not at all, depending on what state or where you're at. But if you're doing that, it should be in those places where you get the little wristband, you go out and you come back in. Yeah. Like that's what should be happening. It just comes down to enforcement. But it's hard, you know, when you've got hundreds of thousands of people coming through, I would think anyway, it's hard. You mean anybody who's been to a concert venue. It comes down to manpower because you just
it on the places that are that are properly staffed. Yeah, they will come and get them like snipers. Right. Because you watch one little tuft of smoke come up and smell it and they will march down and go you out or put it away. But I've been to too many concerts. You know, I mean, when you've only got 18,000 people and when you don't have
that sort of set up. Then it's like all bets are off. Nobody can tell where it's even coming from because everybody's doing it. And I haven't been to Vegas since league or since weed was legalized in Nevada. So I don't, I mean, but it doesn't surprise me when I heard that. I saw that same story. Like it was Franco. Uh, a cop who said Ben, I hope they don't drug test this because we're all going to flaunt. That's funny.
I mean, if you're in a car with that much rocket fuel, it's just the smell of all of that. And the smell of weed literally overcomes all of that. I'm sure they were because it was, I'm sure they were just talking about being out and about in Vegas. No, they were in the paddock. I mean, they said it was like God awful. I mean, like this, it was like constant. That's surprised.
You know, it's interesting, the top four teams. And when you look at the drop off after those four teams and people will make a big deal about top eight drivers, top 10 drivers. But I mean, there's such a literally McLaren, I guess, McLaren Ferrari Red Bull Mercedes.
you know, six hundred eight points, five hundred eighty four points, five hundred fifty five points, four hundred twenty five points, right? And that's with the win yesterday. And then Aston Martin's got eighty six in fifth. I mean, it is like such a drop off. That's the hardest thing to wrap your head around for for me in terms of sports was the idea that the way I watched sporting
was the best people, whoever's in first place, however it's going, everybody trying to win and everybody kind of be in it. Yeah, you had bomb teams. But watching a race where the winner might not even be on TV the entire time because they're so far ahead, which was the case. Yeah. And they're in where two thirds or three quarters of the field aren't even really in the race.
It's like, it's such a weird way to consume it. And like fifth place, like they literally, they don't even have a hundred points, let alone 425, which is next. And then it goes 50, 49, 46, 17, big fat goose egg zero for kick solver at the bottom. Unreal. And I had a chance at a point. Yes. Point.
Did you see the cow pinto, uh, crashing qualifying? Wow. Car just got, they weren't even sure he was going to be able to race on Sunday and Saturday night, 50 G's. Yeah. I'm having fun. It's been a great year. This is the most winning drivers, distinct separate drivers of any season.
in a very, very, very long time. If not history, I can remember what they said yesterday. Seven winners this year. Yeah. That's wild. And this will be for everybody who thought 19 wins was going to kill the sport, you know, or the job. He did it both ways. He won the whole thing, basically swept the whole season. And now he had to kind of and still wins it with two races left. Yeah. Had to get some points in different ways this year, not just driving out front the whole time.
the last like 16 drivers are from two teams or maybe it's just one. Yeah, two teams, Mercedes and Red Bull, like the last 15 drivers. Yeah, you go back to the fashion battle at Red Bull and then into Lewis and then yes, absolutely. And winning that fourth puts him, you know, I know it's just one more than three, but in that category that you get into a whole separate. Yeah.
Yep. Category of greatest of all time. I think it's five. It even moves them up that. Oh, for sure. Then it's a while. Then there's that. Oh, yeah. It would take two more. And then, of course, one more after that to own it out, right? Who knows? I think he has the talent to do that. I don't know if he'll be doing it long enough to do that.
Yeah. The money that they make today, you know, versus what even Lewis Hamilton made at the beginning of his career, certainly with Michael Schumacher and all the others. I mean, it's always been an expensive sport, but today they make a ton. Yeah, the best ones do. Yep. Anyway, I thought it was a great race. I thought Vegas did a nice job. I thought the, uh, it was just, it was a race not without controversy. As you mentioned, the Ferrari team orders stuff and there were some other things, but it was a pretty clean race.
And a couple of cars got knocked out, but it wasn't like, you know, messy where you had to have all the delays and everything with debris all over the tracks. Who was it? It was up here. Gasleys, engine, you know, that was a great moment on the race because if you like listening to the radio calls, which to me,
here's what they should never ever get rid of that. And they should never ever find anybody for whatever set on that because it's pressure packed and all of that. But he's telling them that he's got no power and they're going, oh, all our spoons look fine. And then smoke is like billy. He's screaming like listen to the driver. I don't care what you're showing back in the paddock. There's smoke billowing out of the engine and it's gone.
Yeah, and I tell him it all looks fine. That was a very good call. The my favorite call the day though is when when Charles when they said we Charles, we told him to back off and he goes, tell, try it in Spanish. That's great. It's a super calm, nice guy, just mad on a cousin tirade later. Yeah, he did. And I didn't hear that like during the broadcast. I read about it, you know, after the fact, look,
This is such a thing where there's so much pressure and so much speed and so much like where you're just raw. I mean, I would imagine, you know, particularly after the race and a lot of stuff gets said, you know, by a lot of people, you know, during after and usually then they figure out a way to work it out and do the last couple of races. Yeah, we'll see.
It's got to be awkward though. I don't I like Carlos signs. I don't too, but he's been there all year. Thank you. Look, I've been pretty good. I've been better than Lewis. And they dumped me for Lewis. And I think your head gets around in some way to go. Well, okay, you know, he's
biggest name in the sport and all that. But it still has to be a blow to your ego where you're like feeling like, okay, what a team team what you fired me before the season before the season started. Right. And they make me come out here every week and then make me play second fiddle whether I'm faster or not. I can just see the guy go out. I got two races left team stuff team. You got rid of me before the season started. Yeah.
played as overplayed his hand outside of Ferrari and now he'll be riding around the back of the car. You are just better. I love that guy. Okay. Then why are what did this really change for Leclerc yesterday? I guess I'm trying points. Okay. Points. You mean he's trying to get number number two? I don't think he can get number two, Kenny. I mean, because they're not favored. I mean, or what is it? The next couple of races. What does it look like?
at the right time. I think I thought that they said that these tracks aren't, aren't there specialty that I mean, they are not. Yeah, but, but they're hot. I mean, their car is faster and just that and it's of itself for the guy that's driving as wonderful as Charles is driving right now. I think they have a pretty good shot. Any, any race day that was funny to see Terry Cruz there and I don't have anything against Terry Cruz. Love Terry Cruz, but he's a new fan of the sport, which was fun to see.
But it was so odd to have him and Jensen button doing the post race like a little interview because a they drive to that and then they get in the car and then they drive to like where the trophies are handed out. One cool thing that I saw was the images in the fountains out there at Bellagio. Like they were projecting the race, you know, the water. That was very cool. I love the whole look of all of it. I love the sphere. I love the lighting. I love all of it. I hate how they treated the people of Las Vegas in general. That that I
heard some first-hand accounts of them putting up like curtains and restaurants. And if you want the curtain moved, it'd be like $300. And is that them or is that the restaurant doing? It's FIA on a lot of it. And then the restaurants and stuff gouging on top of it. But they had people in place. Don't peek through that crack. Move it along. Move it along. Yeah. And all of it. It's just that
I'm not a big fan of that. Do we just see that because we're here and we read all the press versus someplace like Monaco or whatever, where it may be the same way. Just we're not reading the news of the day in that country. Maybe. I mean, we definitely see the construction kind of vinyl, rappy stuff in Monaco and whatnot. The Philippines or wherever it fences. So you can't see nearly as much. But I mean, to actually just be overly policing it and stuff, not a huge fan of it. Yeah.
I'm not either. I'm just wondering if it's unique. I mean, you think if one they're fairly consistent as a sport in the good and the bad, right? Yeah, that you would think that this isn't something that's just unique to this particular street circuit where you don't have control of getting everybody to have admission into a big place where there's a track and you can control.
And then on the other side, my brain tells me they spent a lot of money. They put in a lot of effort. They did all this and the citizens will benefit from it and this, that and the other. And it's like, if you could put up an entire 50 foot wall around the whole thing, so nobody peaked, I'd probably be entirely okay with that. But the idea that it's like, sir, you can't peek through that fence hole.
You've been, you've been sitting by this tree that you set by and have your lunch for. Yeah, I like there's nothing in Las Vegas is free. I mean, you know, next weekend, the weekend after that mean the views are. Yeah. But if you want to, I mean, it's not an inexpensive place to go spend, you know, time. I mean, they charge you for everything. One quick thing of note before we take quick break and get weather and then the mayor will be with us.
I watched on Amazon. There is the F1 channel on part of the free stuff they do on Amazon. And there is a series called Beyond All Limits that literally there's a three part in the whole Lewis Hamilton Max for Stapp in 2021 title chase that brings back all of the old guard commentary, the comparisons to all of the duels in the past and the hard feelings and the racks and all. It's really good. Oh, good.
because I thought about going back and watching it. But if it was pre made, I like that more than the final episode of drive to survive as good as that was for that season, you get the historical context of like, you know, literally everything leading up to it. And then also the comparisons of like when Alan Frost and Senna were fighting each other or Schumacher was, I mean, it is really, really good. It's like a three part series. Okay.
Yeah, that would, that would scratch a niche that I have. Yes. I just, I happened upon it. Cool. Really, really good. Nick's got your three day forecast. Tree stands are the number one source of hunting related accidents and fatalities in Illinois.
So far, during this hunting season, conservation police have documented one hunting-related fatality. Tree stand falls, often from 20 to 30 feet, can cause broken bones, spinal damage, paralysis, and other serious injuries. Most of these injuries can be prevented by using fall arrest systems, avoiding drugs and alcohol, and making sure the tree stand equipment is in good working order.
