Two more Trump picks. I'm Chris Foster, Fox News. President-elect Trump says Linda McMahon will be his Secretary of Education, a department he has said he will eliminate. She's currently a co-chair of the President-elect's transition team. During his first term, she led the Small Business Administration, stepping down in 2019 to help with his 2020 re-election campaign. McMahon has also made it to unsuccessful runs for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut.

Oz ran unsuccessfully for a Senate seat in Pennsylvania two years ago. He was a heart surgeon before launching a television career in a statement. President Elect Trump says Oz will be a leader in incentivizing disease prevention to get the best results for every dollar we spend on health care.
It's Fox, it's Jared Halpern. The judge deciding the Lake and Riley murder case in Georgia may hear testimony today from the defendant's two brothers, Jose Abara's defense attorneys have suggested they cannot be ruled out as suspects, so there's enough reasonable doubt to find their client not guilty. The brothers all enter the country illegally from Venezuela.
ahead of a planned mass deportation, the Los Angeles City Council votes unanimously to declare it a sanctuary city banning employees from helping the feds track people in the country illegally. We're making sure that we are keeping our friends, family, neighbors and coworkers safe. We don't have a safer city if people are living in fear and hiding in the shadows.
The L.A. County Republican Party writes so-called sanctuary cities and states sound warm and fuzzy, but the protections they offer aren't for abuelas getting ice cream. They're for people who've entered the country illegally and committed additional crimes. The L.A. vote supports California's declarations as sanctuary state since 2017. is 706. We got a big hour for you. Clay Gerhard's in. Man, are we ready for trees on the teas? Mark Topper and Tupper on sports and we'll tell you how you can support the Memorial Foundation this holiday season. The seven o'clock hour starts now.
You can check out the photos on Nada Keter's Facebook page from the big awards ceremony yesterday for the WSOY Community Food Drive. All the students that were out, the schools that got their awards and then
The 18 checks to 16 different agencies representing more than $700,000. Handed out yesterday and some hardware to this next guest, my friend, Cleger, from the Gator Park District. I just wanted to publicly thank you. I know you're not the kind to want awards or recognition. That's what I like about you most. But then I also have kind of a sick thing of it's fun to do that for two people who really are uncomfortable with that.
because it's deserved. So just I just want to say thank you for all the work you did. It was such a pleasure having you on the committee this year. Place just a yes guy. And I don't mean a yes guy like a guy who like is kowtowing. He's just like, you can throw a problem in him. And he's like, yes, we will solve it. We'll fix it. And that's unusual in life. So thank you. Appreciate the recognition. It was a team team effort. Our part. No doubt. It helped with that significant amount.
But yeah, I enjoyed being part of the team. And, um, you know, I wrote a post this morning that when you put yourself, Kevin Behany, Lindsey, Debbie, all behind initiative, Nick, you know, um, there's nothing you guys can't get done in this community. Well, it was not Oscar. It was all, uh, including you. So I'm just saying congratulations. Uh, it was a no brainer for the folks who said, uh, we have hundreds of volunteers and they're all great and we can't do it without every single one of them, but it was,
such a refreshing sort of operational in no one wants to do operation operate. If you ever get the title of director of operations, it's the worst title in the world. You know why? Everything is operations. You know, a little side note that of all that is.
there's some people that problem-solving get it done they're prickly and and you're like oh god but hey they get results it was pleasurable yes i i don't enjoyed it i hope we get to do more and uh... we enjoyed work absolutely no doubt about it so uh... thank you uh... for your continued service to this community you guys got
There was a time. There was a day and an age. You go back to Jerry Minnes and the park singers and the park district was a summer organization. You know, you literally, you know, Memorial Day would come and the pools would open and ice cream socials and then you'd get to the Labor Day and all that would close. And then it was like sailing for the winter.
That is no longer the case. You guys, I got two full pages of stuff just happening in the next few weeks. Let's start with the turkey trot because that is what's coming up right next. It's it literally this Saturday, November 23rd.
That's correct. This Saturday, you know, this is the 50th annual turkey trot. So a big anniversary for that event. This year, we've got the 5K to 10K. We added a half marathon, which is definitely peaked a lot of folks interest because we've got over 316 folks and registers so far.
So we're excited. That's going to be the biggest turkey trot. I think we've had since 2012. So, um, but wait a second. That's a great accomplishment. That's 12. It was a long time ago, 12 years ago. But the truck begins at 8 30 a.m. with the top trot, which is always a fun little thing to come out and watch the little kids run their little.
a quarter mile or so. So just come out for that experience if nothing else. But if you're going to race, you can run the 5K or the 10K or half marathon beginning at 90 and those races will kick off at Fairview Park. So again, come on out. You can register if you want to participate at run signup.com or by calling the disc. They'll get you hooked up and ready to go. And the weather actually looks pretty nice for the weekend because I know we got high school playoff football going on. We'll tell you the details about broadcast.
times for that. But it looks like the wind and all that stuff is going to be out here. Partly Sunday day and you can get up to almost 50. So for running conditions, pretty good. Yeah, great running conditions. So yeah, excited. What is the run sign up dot com? Yeah, that's that's the website we use for all the runs and different shots we do throughout the year. So run sign up dot com or you can call the disc and they'll get you registered.
If you're thinking about Christmas gifts or holiday gifts, right? You got a Christmas deal going on. We've got Splash Cove. This is an early 2025 season pass, but you can buy them right before the prices go up. Yep. So if you're looking for a great Christmas present for your family or perhaps your grandparents who wants to bust your grandchildren with
season passes to the splash code. You can do that. And again, the 2024 rate. So a youth is just $215. Youth, 13 and up is $240. And the aid goes up from there. All right. So is that like just you go every day? Yeah. Yeah. Season pass gets you in every single day. Be curious. How many days is that between Memorial Day and Labor Day?
It's a lot. No, I mean, this is I'm the marketing guy all the time. I'm wondering like we take that $215 divided by the number of days between Memorial Day and Labor. So what is going to come down? Because there's like four months in there, you know, 120 days divide 200 ish. I mean, you're talking about a couple bucks. Yeah. And one of the great advantages of being a seasoned passholder is that you get in a half hour earlier than when the gates open a noon. So seasoned passholders are allowed into the 1130s. You can get in, get your prime deck chair.
get everything set up for you and then have a half hour to yourself before the rest of the crowds come in. This is important because this travels with you the rest of your life. If you've ever been on a cruise ship, right? You've been on a cruise ship? No. You've never been on a cruise ship? No.
every year. The towels and the the seating is very important, particularly if you have a day at sea, you know, you're not going into port or you're not doing like whatever. So you get up early to have a cup of coffee, maybe walk the track or the deck.
And you go and you secure your beef styles and you secure the seating that you want. And you put a paper back or something with your towel and you go, I've just marked this territory. It's mine. It's taken. That's what you get a half hour early in Splashco. Exactly right. Exactly right. And then we've got a doorbuster at the disc. And this is only available. Doorbusters. What does that mean? So it's the Black Friday deal. So on November 29th, that day, only from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
You will be able to receive 50% off a full facility membership at the disc and 50% off the hit room pass, which that's the brand new. Yeah. I was going to bring that up. I'm glad this came up logically. I drove through right in front of it last night while it was dark outside. That room was lit up in a way that when you drive by, you cannot miss it. The life, the look, that thing is impressive at night, Clay.
Yeah, it was a great project that our staff took on, did all the design work and most of the construction themselves. So do you have to be a member to do the hit room, right? You have to buy a membership. So you can get 50% off a membership, but then you can do the hit room add-on at a significantly reduced rate. Exactly. So if you're an individual, that rate would be $288 for your membership fee.
And then just another $34.75 for the hitroom add-on. But less than $35 a month, you can add on that. So $2.88 for an individual. Is that the yearly? That is yearly. Yep. That's less than a dollar a day. Now, is that the 50% off price? Yes. OK. So $288 for an individual. And then if you want to add the hitroom on, it's $34.75. That's right.
That's right. It's a great deal as folks look for New Year's resolutions and you don't get get caught up in trying to better themselves for the New Year. This is even with the add on that's less than a dollar. Yeah. Yeah.
So come on out, check out the disc. If anything come by, take a tour. We've got some great staff there that would love to show you around and show you what we have to offer and just re-enter as you do the disc. And if you're interested in the membership, we'll be happy to see you. That's in person, right? Yes, in person. So you go out there. And by the way, I would recommend that you go in person to see something you're signing up for. And the hit room's fantastic. And that is sort of modern day working out. You people want to do this high intensity.
stuff for shorter intervals and it is I think most people have landed on this is a really good way to work out and it's a quicker amount of time you can do it in and they've got all of the stuff that's there. If you're into this kind of thing, you're going to see this room and go, oh, everything I need. We are excited about it. It's been a great addition to the disc and as we continue to modernize this post COVID and offer new things for our members in the community, this is the latest edition. OK, seniors 208 bucks.
That's the 50% off rate for the year. Senior couple, $301.50. Youth, $121. Got a young athlete in your family, right? Yeah. Stay in shape and unbelievable rates. All right.
trees on the teas. Are there any tickets still available? There are. There are. Unfortunately, if you want to come at Friday at 7 p.m. or Saturday at 7 p.m. that's probably not going to happen. But we have lots of other tickets available still on the other days surrounding and even later in the evening on those days, there are still some tickets available.
I say this now, we've got about eight business days until this year. Yeah, but you sold 17,000 tickets. How many can you accommodate? Well, last year we had just over 18,000 total sold. So we're already still still a week away. We can have away from the event. We're we're we'll see if we cross that 20,000 mark this year. So you can still get tickets. They're still out there. If you have trouble, you can go our Park District office or ladies there will be happy to help you find
slot that's available to one seven four two two five nine one yep or you can visit the website at Decatur dashparks.org but again if you have any problems just call the office will be happy to help you yeah and they actually have it's not an operator named Bob you know in Indonesia it's an actual person you know that will take care of your needs lovely group of ladies there all right the school's out day camp we talked about this last time this is I think genius because you know babysitting is expensive and finding you know even people to do what is harder and harder to do
And people have work schedules yet. Kids are out of school because of holidays or whatnot. You guys have really stepped up, sort of provide a service where not only do you have adults, you know, who are taking care of your kids, this has got great activity for them to participate in at the same time and affordable. You nailed it on the head. You know, we've got Thanksgiving week coming up. And if you're looking for, you know, how to fill that gap of childcare on November 25th, 26th, 27th and 29th,
We have the disc available for kids to come. It's $50 a day, $45 of your resident, and those hours run from 6.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. But every day the kids will be able to not only do everything that's available at the disc, but they'll also do field trips. So they'll do roller skating, they'll go to the Savoy Theater one day, they'll go to Elevate Trampoline Park another day, and then the indoor Urbana pool on the final day on November 29th.
So again, so you can do one or all. I mean, you don't have to sign up for the whole thing. Just whatever tailored to your needs whenever you need it. Just call the disc 1493472 and then get you registered or we can stop by there and they can just talk you through it. But again, $50 a day or 45 bucks if you're a Decatur resident.
We do not provide meals, so the kids need to bring a meal like they would probably go into school. Pack up the lunchbox, man. That Friday the 29th, even you just want to decorate the house and put up the tree and get the kids out from under you. It's a great way. The kids have fun. And they're going to go swimming in November. Yeah, the kids have a blast. They love our schools out. They camp, so don't wait. Sign up soon.
And that is what's the cost again for that? Fifty dollars. If you're a non-resident, forty five bucks if you're a resident. By the way, we should probably explain that. I'm not sure that everybody speaks the same language on this. Resident means you are within the Decatur Park District residency, meaning you're paying taxes into the Park District. You get a discount over
those who are outside of those boundaries. Correct already paid some taxes. So we are we offer you a little bit of a discount. Okay. Cool. Santa's shuffle. Yeah, that's another usually popular event coming up at the disc on December 8th that'll run from 3 to 6 p.m. And Santa returns to the disc. The kids will run on the indoor track. They'll play all the different games we have at the disc. Get the jump on the inflatable trampoline play on the inflatable scooters basketball whole nine yards of the disc.
from 3 to 6 p.m. During that time, there'll be certain times when kids in different age groups will run the track with Santa ages 2 to 4 and 3 p.m. All the way up to ages 9 to 10 starting at 3.45 p.m. The fee for that is this $15 if you're in on resident $13 again if you're a resident indicator.
If you're a disc member, you can get another dollar off that at 12 bucks. So we've got a plethora of price points there, but definitely come out to the disc. Another great way for the kids to burn off some energy if they've been cooped up or whatever in the house or just needing to get out a little bit, send dad with the kids to the disc and mom going to do some shopping, whatever it may be.
call the disc at four two nine three four seven two and they can get you signed up for that. All right. Fantastic stuff. And then of course, we've got a couple of announcements already for the Devin links are amphitheater and then there are more to come as these acts are rolled out. These first two are part of the season ticket package, right?
All of them
He changed the way we do things this year. So we put the announcements out there. And then within a week after that, the tickets go on sale typically. So we're, you know, capture that momentum of the announcement coming out versus having to wait for the band and everything else. So yeah, Leanne Rhimes and then Nelson, which is a multi platinum recording artist, Matthew and Gunner Nelson.
This is kind of an interesting group. I was reading some comments on Facebook that they were back here. They were here in 1991 at the Bingham County Fair, but they are part of three generations of the same family that have achieved number one record status.
I think her dad was Rick Nelson and their grandpa was Aussie Nelson ahead of that with his wife. I don't know what he was. Well, Aussie was an actor, not a musician. Yeah, yeah. Aussie was a famous TV star and the family was then big and then Rick was. Aussie and Harry. Aussie and Harry. Yes, that's exactly right.
And then Rick was a really talented musician had a little bit of trouble life and died in a very strange way, but the twins were very big in the 90s. I think they played the celebration. They did saw pictures of it. Yeah, that's right. You found those yesterday. But they're that would be fun. I think that those nostalgic kind of things. And it's also like I haven't seen the opportunity to see Nelson recently. You know what I mean? Like that's not been like, oh, they were at the state fair last year. Now they're like,
Like this first time I've thought about them since the 90s, you know, but it'll be fun. I mean, they're good musicians. Yeah. Yeah. So they're coming to the Devon on June 14th. And then we announced Strutter, which is America's number one kiss tribute band coming to the Devon on June 27th. So these guys do, you know, everything kiss and not only do they do the tunes and they do the pyrotechnics and all that stuff. Smoking guitars and all that stuff. Authentic cost, meaningful makeup, everything. So
those three shows have been announced. We've got another announcement coming out tomorrow at 10 a.m., which I think will be exciting to folks as well. And so, yeah, we're kicking off the Devon season in a great way. All right, now.
Season ticket holders, right? They get an opportunity. I'm just encouraging you to do this, everything about because if you want to go together with, you know, some friends, you know, you're not going to go to every show, but you want to split it up. You get early opportunities on ticket purchases for the acts that aren't in the season ticket package, right? Correct. If it's an add on show, you get first first dibs on your typical seats traditionally that you would have at the Devon.
And everyone should have received an email correspondence from Dustin Bradshaw So they're they're kind of picking you know what what they want in their season ticket package if they're doing the picture pack or Confirming their season ticket package details with Dustin and we were again able to put tickets on sale a bit earlier But we're holding those season tickets back until those are all solidified. All right Well here this is a great idea for Christmas, right? If you forgot like
And I get it, you know, it's hard to go to every show, a lot of shows, you know, between the opening and the closing of the Devin Lake Shore amphitheater. You go together as a family and do a Christmas gift for yourselves and buy season tickets and then split them up however you want to split them up. That's a great way to get a whole summer full of entertainment. Yep. And even if you are a Devin fan and you love coming to do shows or anything else I've listed today,
You can purchase, excuse me, purchase Park District gift cards at any time, and you can call the office and we'll be able to redeem those for whatever tickets you may want at the Devon Lake Trampitator. So great stocking stuffer, you know, buy a $50, $100 gift card for stocking stuffers, and they can just call the office when those tickets go on sale, and our staff can redeem those gift cards for Devon tickets. Yeah.
Literally Strutter, it's an interesting name for the band because you got to really dig that into the kiss like legacy to go find this. That album, self titled album, it was their debut album 1974. And Strutter did not hit the charts, but it was a favorite live show tune for his fans for years. So I mean, this goes all the way back. I mean, this isn't like they're doing old school kiss for you.
Like all in. All right. I mean, they're going to go obscure. Strider. Gonna be a fun one. It's one of the few songs, by the way, written by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley together. They generally were kind of like John and Paul, like they had their own thing where they would write songs that was a collaborative effort between the two. That'll be a fun show because you get the makeup, you get all the stuff, you get the full, all the bells and whistles.
going to be great. Remember being a kid and just seeing the first time you saw a kiss live, you're like, what? Right. Right. And I know they're they're old guys now, which is the good thing about the bands that come in and do this is it's they're caught in a timed sort of thing of where you go back and with the makeup. Yeah. Sitting on the 50 yard line, you got no idea, but you just the wonderment of kiss was just like,
I remember they were coming to St. Louis and I have this distinct memory even remember the house we lived in and where I was watching the TV and KPLR remember like when you first got cable and you got like the St. Louis station you could watch wrestling at the chase on the weekends and I remember seeing the ad for kiss in concert in St. Louis you just go I don't know what that is.
And then you were shocked. No, it was. No, we loved it. And then we had six great teachers that swore up and down. It stood for kids in Satan's service and they were not happy.
It seems so lame all these years later, but I love it. It's a really great show. All right, Clay, as always, we appreciate it. And thank you to you and all your staff. I know they're going to put a ton of hours in between now and the end of trees on the trees. And I mean, that's all hands on. I mean, that's literally from the airport. And I mean, every division will be out there. And that donut machine is going to get worked out, too, but it gets nice and never come a nice tradition, hasn't it? Like, it's not something that you thought about before.
like, you know, Christmas and donuts. But now it's become, you know, that's part of the dream. You bring in the virtual sleigh, too. Yep. OK. It's out there ready to go. And we've got some new additions to the trees on tees for 100th anniversary as well. So yeah, definitely come out and check out what's going on. It's going to be huge. And they've already sold 17,000 tickets. So don't screw around. You're going to get in there and get your tickets today. Clay, we appreciate it. Thank you very much. Have a great week. Clay Gerhard, ladies and gentlemen, Nick's got your three day forecast. We'll be back with more right after this.
Today, we've got a small chance of some rain. It looks like it's getting out of here cloudy through mid morning and then clearing breezy with a high of 52 tonight. We've got a chance of snow mainly after 3 a.m. mostly cloudy and windy, a low around 31. For Thursday, a chance of snow mixing with rain afternoon, mostly cloudy and a high near 40. And then Friday, mostly cloudy with a high near 46. The current temperature in downtown Decatur 41 degrees, your WSOI 10 is 728.

Don't take it if you have an infection or active swelling in or around your eye. Iservae can cause eye infection, retinal detachment, or increased risk of wet AMD. Iservae may temporarily increase eye pressure. Your vision may be impaired after an eye injection or exam.

current temperature in downtown Decatur 41 degrees. Your W. S. O. Y. Time is 7 33. Tupper on sports on W S O Y 13 40 AM and 103.3 FM streaming live at now Decatur dot com. Good morning and welcome.
each and every weekday morning. We check in with Mark Tupper and Tupper on sports. Let's start with the line. I and Alabama. You know, I've tried to watch a fair amount of college basketball here early in the season because number one, I think Illinois.
has a very new, very intriguing, very talented team. And I want a feeling of how they might compare with the other better teams around. And number two, there are some really good high-level matchups being played amid the usual lopsided tune-up games. But here's what I've seen. Illinois is not the only school that successfully mined the transfer portal. There's a lot of interesting new
guys switching teams and the big 10 has some really good teams based on.
these early results, and I would include Purdue, Wisconsin, Indiana, Oregon, Rutgers, Michigan State. It's going to be a brawl once conference play begins. Games like Purdue's victory over Alabama, Wisconsin's win over Arizona. Last night, Marquette over Purdue. They're all interesting. So long as you understand, these are just early season snapshots.
and the smart coaches will still adjust and tweak moving forward. So, you know, what you see is not now is not necessarily what you're going to get
in February and that's the case with tonight's game when number 25 Illinois takes on number eight Alabama in Birmingham. Alabama has one of the best guards in the country in Mark Sears and they will start three six foot eleven players including Cliff Amore who transferred from
Rutgers and has had some big games against Illinois. Real good rim protector. Purdue did a great job on Mark Sears. They defended him closely without following him. And that is no easy task. Thailand Boswell will be on him tonight.
Alabama was a final 14 last year. Both teams have prepared for this season by putting together really difficult schedules. Illinois plays Alabama tonight and then starting on Thanksgiving Day in succession. They play Arkansas.
two early Big Ten games Northwestern in Wisconsin and they play Tennessee and the bragging rights game against Missouri. That is a rough stretch and then of course they'll run the gauntlet of Big Ten teams interrupted by a game against Duke in February at Madison Square Garden. Alabama is in a stretch right now where they play in succession Purdue, which they lost. Illinois tonight ranked 25th, seventh ranked Houston, 24th ranked Rutgers.
10th rank, North Carolina, 14th rank, Creighton. That's all in a row. That's a brutal schedule. And Illinois will learn things tonight. And then Brad Underwood will make changes. Or everything will go so well tonight that he won't have to make any changes. But this will be fun. In 10th game, full throttle, who can survive the physical stuff without sending the other team to the free throw line 35 times. 8 o'clock, tip off, SEC Network. Listen to it here on WSOU.
just, you know, a lot of, a lot of fun in this one and a lot of anticipation. And this has been on the circle and read for a long time. All right. On the other side of the break with Mark Tupper, we'll do a little NBA and then maybe college coach heading to Cowboys. We'll see. It's brought to you by First National Bank, Big Bank products, local bank service.
Hi, this is Dale Coley from Dale's Catholic Pharmacy and Coley's Corner Drugs. Let me tell you about my friends at First National Bank. Reliable customer service with a personal touch is important for my stores and the team at FMV has been amazing. They helped us get set up with the types of financial accounts that we need to make sure we're always taken care of. With our service providers, payment gateways, vendors, and our very valued customers. They're always available to me with two convenient locations in Decatur. Thanks, FMV. Member FDIC.
back here with Mark Tupper. All right. The Cavs lost their first game of the year. They did. And they've been the big storyline early in the NBA season open in the season. 15 and 0. And last night, their perfect season ended with a loss to the reigning champs, the Boston Celtics, 121 17. Jason Tatum, one of
six Celtic players and double figures. He had 33 points, 12 rebounds. Celtics really hot from three 22 of 41. These teams are going to meet again, and they seem destined to collide in the postseason. So we'll keep a look at both of them. And then yesterday we talked about the struggling Dallas Cowboys and the likelihood that Jerry Jones will make sweeping changes after the season, including a new head coach and staff.
And there's already a considerable amount of buzz that the next Cowboys head coach will be current Colorado.
had coach and former Dallas superstar Dion Sanders and knowing this and to deflect talk so he can keep his 16th ranked eight and two college team on track to what he hopes is a spot in the 12 team college football playoff field. He said yesterday that his kickstand is down meaning that he's happy in place at Colorado. I'm sure he is happy but
Um, the lure of the Cowboys job would be pretty tough to pass up if Jerry Jones dials his number. Um, and from a purely fan fun standpoint, coach prime writing to the rescue of the Cowboys is about as good as it gets when it comes to juicy real deal drama. I mean, I think that would be a ball. Um, and you just, you can't deny the job he's doing at Colorado. There are plenty of coach prime haters who thought that he would
crash and burn this season. And that has not happened. He's done a really good job. Colorado is at Kansas on Saturday. They need to get in and win the big 12th championship game. But that's where they're pointed. And then who knows? I think it'd be, I think it'd be impossible for him to pass on the Cowboys job. I would think so too. Mark, have a great day. We'll check in with the first thing tomorrow morning. Mark Topper and Topper on sports. That would be a fun ride.
Sure would. I don't know that his magic dust. I don't know that anyone's magic dust is going to work with that owner. Yeah. Well, and the owner who is also the general manager making all the decisions. I thought that was a given. Yes. That guy at his age.
who has not ever forgiven other coaches for being more popular than him. I think Deon might walk in there and go, Jerry, you know why you hired me? I need this guy over here and you need to knock it off. I think he actually would. He would absolutely say that. And Jerry might even agree to it, but he's not going to do it.
If there's one shot of that, beyond the personality is the closest thing that you're probably right. No, at that guy's age, you think he's changing his stripes? I mean, there's just no way. No, probably not. I mean, if he had the capability of growth, he would have. It's been since 1995.
back in the Dion days. No, but I'm saying, I mean, literally, you know, you think magically now 30 years later, no, I don't think so. No, I don't either. I think as long as he's kicking, they're going to be what they are. And I think prime would actually be smarter staying where he is than trying to go win that fight. Maybe wait him out.
That's what I mean. There will be other opportunities for him. I just, you know, to go to do what he's done in Colorado and there's a great Amazon series about all that. By the way, if you want to watch kind of behind the scenes instead of just getting like what people think about the end, you get the, you know, and you then you can think whatever you want to think, but at least you get it from him.
And there are moments where he disappoints me like sometimes, you know, it's too far sometimes. Yeah, but that's okay. You know, that's that kind of personality, but he's a lot of fun and I enjoy the show and I enjoy, you know, he's built something there. He'll have his path wherever that path will be. I just think going to the Cowboys, the expectation level would be off the charts. Oh, yeah, the excitement and his ability to deliver would be limited to what
Jerry Jones does. And I just don't know why you would trade that off. You know what I mean? Like it's almost setting yourself up to fail. Came to Colorado and said, wipe the slate. I'm doing it my way. Period. Yeah. Go to Dallas. You don't get to say all that. Yeah. I'll say all that. But it won't work that way. I get none of it. All right. We're going to have that uncomfortable conversation about your air ducts. Maybe you've managed so far to not turn the heat on. We've had a very, very, very mild.
fall into winter. Next week is Thanksgiving. How long do you think your luck is going to go on this? You're turning on the heat pretty quick. We got a 20 degree day coming up or overnight low in the next 48 hours. And no one likes the smell. You know what that smells like that first time you turn the heater on. But do you know why it smells like that?
Because it's all the crap that's in there that is collected during the summer with the air condition and running and whatever. And who knows? Maybe it's been a couple of years you've been collecting this stuff. The debris of your life, just sitting there, baking under the heat. And with that can be harmful pollutants, allergens, all kinds of stuff and making your furnace less efficient.
So you're probably paying more and breathing dirtier air because you haven't gotten around to call peerless and have their experts come out and clean your air ducts. It's recommended twice a year.
And maybe you don't do it twice a year, but maybe it's been a few years. You need to think about this. They're local. They're perfect. They're great company certified by the National Air duct cleaning association. Their team of experts use state of the art equipment techniques to thoroughly clean your air ducts, removing the dust, the dirt, any of those harmful pollutants. So this is a trifecta right here, folks. If you want to breathe cleaner air,
And the health that comes with that and also the mental health of like knowing your breathing cleaner air. And you want to save money? Why wouldn't you give our friends a peerless a call? They offer a wide range of cleaning services for your home, your office, carpets, rugs, upholstery, but duct, air duct cleaning is overlooked by so many people for way too long.
And we know everything costs more. Why would you be burning more energy, paying higher power bills and breathing dirty air when you can fix it with one phone call? Literally two, one, seven, four, two, three, seven, seven, zero, three, or visit their website at peerless restoration.com to schedule your air dot cleaning appointment. You're long. I should say longs. Hopefully you're not down to one. Your home, your bank account,
Well, thank you. I don't think I even need to elaborate anymore. This is a no-brainer. Win, win, win. And they're a great company that supports local causes. All right, we'll get back. We'll tell you how you might want to direct your year in funding, right? People like to give towards the end of the year. Julie Bilberry will join us in the Memorial Foundation. We'll tell you how you can be a part of that as we head into the holiday season. Stay tuned.

back here on a, well, it's turned out to be a sunny day in downtown Decatur for our start to the program. You know, year in giving is a big thing. And there's always kind of annual pleas and year in appeals and all of that. And it's our great pleasure to welcome the executive director of the Decatur Memorial Foundation, Julie Bilford to the studios. It's good to have you back with us. How's it going?
Oh, it's going fast. It is. Like every other season this year. I got a new story. The older you get the faster it goes. That's what they say. And it has really run to be true. That's OK, though. You guys do great work all year round. And it's pretty amazing. You know, it's one of those things I think maybe if you're not in the hospital or you're not there, you guys are there every day. Most people don't want to go to the hospital. You know, they're generally there because of something that's happening in their life.
But the foundation supports so many things that those folks experience. If, God forbid, they have to be there for medical treatment or whatever it might be. Absolutely. And it's a great way to invest in the community and all the stuff you guys have had to pick up health care wise and all the changes, everything that's happening.
you guys do a year in appeal. What does this money go to? You know, if I, you know, last quarter here heading in before the new year, tax right off, whatever it might be. Whatever your reason, maybe. Yeah, you guys use it for a whole lot of different things. We do. You know, I know, I think a lot of people are more familiar with, you know, medical equipment, hospital upgrades that we do. We do some community health initiatives that that everyone has seen, you know, over the last few years, healthcare education, everybody knows is a huge thing that we've supported.
heavily over the last few years, both within the community and within our own colleagues. But patient care is really at the heart of everything that we do. There are a few different patient care related things I want to talk about that I think are a little bit lesser known that the foundation helps with.
You'll see one in our year-end appeal if anyone receives it in the mail, which they should anytime. There's a lovely story about a patient who's also a DMH volunteer named Joe and just, you know, he's a lung cancer survivor and he's been one of the hundreds of individuals that participates and is registered in our cardiac rehab program.
And that program uses equipment like you would see in a gym, but they use it 12 hours a day, five days a week. Well, that equipment really does need replays quite often. So simple things like the foundation funding. So you might go there and not have any idea that that was probably raise foundations. You know, I think
the basic purpose of a foundation is, okay, here's what we can afford with basically a budget. And here's we have to live within our means and health care has never been more sort of volcanic than it is right now. And then a foundation supplements that by going, all right, well, our patients deserve the best. And so if we've got to be over here or over there, we can help supplement these programs and do the things that we need to do as a community leader. Yes. Something might unexpectedly break that's not in the budget.
But there's also direct patient care that we provide. You know, I don't think a lot of people are aware of the amazing case management team that we have at DMH and most hospitals do. And, you know, they're really looking after the whole individual. So they may have a patient who comes into the ER and had a very traumatic experience, maybe lost their home in some disaster. And they'll call the foundation and we can help put them up, perhaps, you know, in a hotel or somewhere just to kind of help them get through to the next stage of case management team calls for various things like
an individual who presents in the ER had several falls and kept presenting in the ER and they had an electric wheelchair for mobility. Well, they didn't have power. So they weren't able to use the electric wheelchair. So it's just getting to the bottom and the root of some of these health problems. So they're sort of like the holistic big picture of people. They're helping walk a person through all of these very confusing things. And sometimes frightening, you know, people end up there and they're not in their best.
mindset because of what they're going through. It's pretty cool. So, you know, the mailer goes out, you get in the mail, tell me about the ways you can give and how people can give. Oh, well, you know, of course, there's a million different ways that you can give. I think with the year in appeal, you know, we're really focused on monetary donation. You know, you can donate life insurance, IRA, gift annuities, bequest. You can do all those things. Right now, I think a lot of people at the end of the year are just thinking of those monetary donations.
you can choose your designation. So there's many choices in which you want to support. So you can find your own passion and it's not just one size fits all. Nope. So there's many choices. You can even write in your own choice. But just know at the bottom, you know, the end of the day that the foundation is here to help advance patient care. And we cannot do that without the generosity of our community, which they
you know, we're really fortunate to have extremely devoted people in our community who have supported the hospital and essentially supported patient care for years and years now. Okay. And can they do this online? Absolutely. Can they write a check and they have their lawyer? I mean, you know, all the different ways that they can communicate. Talk with your, your own financial planner, you know, or tax.
tax professional. If you want to talk more in depth about, you know, the things that can help you with tax breaks and things like that. But of course, you can donate via credit card check. You can hop online to memorial health backslash DMF.
of course, they can always just directly reach out to me at the foundation, happy to have conversations with them about other ways that they can get. Okay. Now, you know, I know people have questions, you know, a memorial, obviously part of a larger operation, which is good for us.
But the gifts here stay here. Everything stays local. So your gifts, if you give to the Decatur Memorial Foundation, those gifts will stay right here in our community just to help patients and care at Decatur Memorial Hospital. It's important to some people. Very important. Clearly. So you guys work year round. I know that everybody kind of thinks about year and giving and all that. And that's great.
having the year in appeal is smart because there's just people not they don't know what tax laws are going to look like next year and they don't know what they're you know so they're going to act when they can act. Are you guys there for like conversations you know maybe people just can't figure this out and get the mail or they're intrigued but they've got questions they want to talk to a human being. Oh yes absolutely and I love to talk with people and try to find out what they are. Shy you love. I know. I know.
But you could help walk him through the process. Yes, and to find their passion, you know, to help kind of align what they are passionate about and what the hospital may be doing, which I think is really important. It's smart because I think people are more moved to give if they have
say in how it's spent, right? I mean, like it's an area that they feel strongly about. Maybe they had a loved one go through something or a family member, right? A lot of people give in remembrance and honor of or because they've had some serious health crisis or they want to thank a health caregiver, you know, for great care that they've received in the past. So they're real passionate about specific areas.
All right, it's always a pleasure. Thank you very much. I wanted to thank you for supporting the food drive. We handed on all the money yesterday and Memorial was a big supporter of the event this year and every year. But please pass along our thanks to everybody back at the hospital.
everyone who had involvement in bringing that back to the community. I know what a huge lift that is, but I know the community is extremely grateful. Well, we couldn't do it without great partners and morals always stepped up to the plate. So if you're interested this year in giving thing, right? I know everybody gets really busy this last quarter and they will walk you through this. And if you have questions or you have things that you're really passionate about, somebody in your family had something you'd like to make other families, you know, their lives a little better.
They will tailor this to you and work with you. And there's so many easy ways to give. It's fantastic. And keep up the great work. I know that.
There are so many things to be thankful for in this community as we head into Thanksgiving week. It's kind of hard to believe as I'm looking outside sunshine. I'm hoping we have a nice 58 degree Thanksgiving. But there are so many things to be thankful for and health. Well, yes, but what you guys are doing every day for the whole year and then we'll pick up on January 1 and do all next year. Maybe not everyone sees it or they didn't even know they see it with their hospital experience.
but it's part of it and you can be a part of it by being a part of the team by making a donation to the Memorial Foundation. Julie, thank you very much. Well, thank you for having me. Have a great Thanksgiving. You too. All right, we'll take a break. Nick's got your three day forecast. We'll be back with more right after this.
