All right, we are back here. I told you a little later today we're going to find out about this fame program and the newly created Prairie Land fame program. I'm reading the story on nadicated.com went to the press conference yesterday out at workforce development and
It is a comprehensive pathway for high school students to achieve an associate of applied science and engineering technology with a specialty in advanced manufacturing technician through Richland Community College over the course of five semesters, participants earned 65 college credit hours and gained two years of invaluable work experience through hands-on training.
with partnering organizations such as GSI, Mueller, ADM. And this is literally could lead to, you know, I want to become an engineer too. I want to go into some other form of manufacturing that might not require a four-year degree or I could get a two-year degree after all of this. It's just, it's realistic education pointing towards real jobs.
I'm 100% for more programs like this. They graduate. The kids would not only their diploma, but their associates and a track into the next thing. If that's the next thing or whatever the next thing, you know, but for some that will be able to step right into the thing to earn them money to get started on, you know, their savings, their future, all of those things, 100% all for it. Yep.
And this idea, and I can tell you for a long time, just the public school systems just sort of lived in Lala land about this. Like you'd sit here and you think, okay, where are the jobs in this community? Now, ideally, people could chase down their careers anywhere they want to go, but most people are growing up here are going to look for a job here. And it was amazing, the disconnect between sort of the industry and the careers that were here and what was in the curriculum at the schools.
They weren't connected at all. No, in hindsight, and for many throughout all the years, it seems so obvious. It seems clear. And now there's actually traction on putting these things together. Yeah. Now, how you get into the high schools and how you get to the kids and how do you, you know, as Dr. Morris has proven time and time again is a specialty. You know, I mean, it's, it's one thing to just say we got this. I mean, but now how do you
Because we talk about comprehensive education and practical experience, industry partnerships, career advance, but all of that. But like we learned during the Ag Academy days, you know, sometimes a good idea isn't necessarily well received or received or received and then promoted or received and let's create this pathway. It's easier said than done. Oh, no question about it. And sometimes
you know, when you take something that's established or everybody's on board and kind of gets it, it's far easier to go, Hey, look at this cool thing that you already know about. Here's how to get to it. But you're right. Sometimes we have to take a step back and realize people may not know that exists and they may not have sorted it out for themselves and you got to start a little further back and not just kids, not just the students or not, not even just parents. Sometimes it's the counselors and sometimes partners. Yeah, companies and you know,
when you then once they know it's a thing, it becomes, you know, far easier. But so much just got to educate people. I just hope whenever this this is we'll talk to Rocky and Hannah a little later today. And maybe this is the plan and they've got all this mapped out. We didn't get into that in the press conference yesterday. But the one thing I noticed, you know, yes, Richland was there. John Oliver was there. But you know, where was education? I mean, these are this is where you got to go now. Yep. And I think
Sometimes people just think it's a blanket thing. Oh, we got this thing and it's great. But there's more work than that. And you don't always worry that you're going to bypass people that are harder to get to or you have to get to in a different way or you have this school over here from wherever that says, yeah, we're all in and then you skip schools because it's harder. It's just it's got to be comprehensive, but it's a great start. Yeah, exciting. And we're seeing more of more of these types of things where
people and not just for kids, but a lot of adult education, a lot of just more. Let's use the word more, more opportunities for kids to get proper training and people. Pointing down a right road. Yeah. And correction calls where you find your passion, you know, and what you can do. But it was also it's better to have common sense goals that actually reflect
goals that are achievable in and around you and can take you on a path that can really give you success. You're not putting square peg in round hole. So it'll be interesting. They'll be in a little later day. You know who's coming in this week? Who's that? Our friends from France. Oh, really? Yes. Very cool. Thursday, we will have some of our friends from Anova Feedin. And they have their first commercial product.
That will be available at Garver feeds right here in Decatur their first like to the public
We're to that point now. Yes. Oh, wow. That seems to be pretty fast. Well, I mean, it's smaller scale. I know, but it's still. I mean, I can't wait. Yeah, I can't wait to hear about this Thursday morning. So day after tomorrow, they will be in tomorrow. We've got the Symphony Guild, all kinds of stuff. Milliken. And anyway, we've got a big week, a lot going on for this week for sure. Once again, just a quick reminder for the high school sports fans out there football.
post seasons underway. We've got to Mount Zion and Merle Forsyth will be playing on Saturday. Merle Forsyth with the earlier game, 315 pregame on W. D. Z. Mount Zion at normal. You will be 645 pregame as long as the Merle game is done, which it should be unless there's, you know, several over times or something, but you basically will get those games back to back on W. D. Z. Rooting for all.
I don't know where Johnson City is. I don't either. It is weird that you live some place your whole life and it's not that big downstate population wise. I don't even know what's downstate is an upstate. I'll tell you this. If there was a team of people in Illinois that don't know all the little places in Illinois and they needed a captain, I would be a shoe in for it because I do not know much about
these little places in Illinois. Well, it's in Williamson County and then I go, where's Williamson County? I don't know. Population 3348. Okay. And here's a little interesting thing about that. Mining jobs. And here's what I love in today's context, because we look back at history and we go, oh, look at these great American stories.
The mining jobs attracted many, many immigrants from Europe who came here to take these jobs. And this is sort of the formation of this community and how it started. And it was a stop along the Chicago, Paducah, Memphis, railroad in 1894. Great. Jewel history lesson.
There was a post office established in 1852 under the name Lake Creek that was then moved in 1903 to Johnson City. So they had themselves post office. And then they had some little areas that all kind of incorporated into being that one. So there it is. It's at the very bottom of the state. If I'm looking at this map correctly. Well, no idea about their football team, but I bet there I bet their town travels.
Oh, I'm sure. Well, they don't, they don't have to travel. We're always going to them. I'm saying like they're going wherever they're going for football. So whether it's down the street and we close everything up or we go all the way to the north, we're coming. Yeah. I mean, I love that sort of
urban legend of small town football and foot the sign and the window closed and the whole things. I was driving out past going to Springfield yesterday and coming back home and going out there and seeing all the signs for the Braves, you know, like where their school buses, you know, we'll leave and all the stuff that's out there just kind of rooting them on. It is fun. It's a lot of fun. So Saturday back to back on WDC. I watched the land man last night.
The first two episodes is available on Paramount, and I don't know, but Billy Bob Thornton may have been born to play this role. It was like they were just filming him, you know what I mean? It's like his facial expressions, his mannerisms, his attitude, the whole thing. I think he's just nailing it.
So here's what I'll tell you. If you liked it, which you seem to, then you might want to go back and whatever you get the time and watch Yellowstone because this is very much the same feel, just different industry. Yeah, I already. Yeah, I'm certain of that.
just to give you a sense like the what you're seeing here. Now they got a bigger cast and it's not all focused on just one person. This and this is what works with the Jeremy Renner show to even though it's not like with cowboys and hats and boots. It's really skin in the same thing. Yeah. The same kind of stuff.
But this feels like old Yellowstone to me, like before it got so big, you know, it was about, you know, the cattle and the ranch industry and all the opposing sides and everybody coming to loggerheads about whatever. And, you know, in Mike's case, you know, Jerry Mariner's character, it's, you know, the gangs versus the police versus the prison guards. It's all kind of the same. Yeah. So what was your take on the show? I liked it a lot. I mean, I thought it was entertaining and interesting. At times, maybe a little exaggerated, you know, the pinky stuff and that seems ridiculous. Yeah.
ridiculous. I like the football scene or the scenes with his daughter. It's just, it's like the uncomfort, the cringe level that he has
It just seeps through. I think it's a really nice show. I think it will ramp up and get very serious because this is what it usually does. Taylor Sheridan is very good at introducing you to these characters, right? And getting you to have a connection with them, you know, and then the drama begins and then it can get then it gets serious. I also think that he does a good job of giving brush fires on the way so that you are there a little battle tested and they're not just now it's versus the final boss. It's like,
that you kind of know they can handle some stuff. Maybe not this next thing. But that's their job. You know, these guys are all fixers, you know, in one way or another. You know, you've got the people at the top, you got the people at the bottom, and you got the people in the middle who know what's actually going on that has to pave the way for all of that. I think John Hamm will be absolutely hateable. I mean, he will be like the despicable character. Yeah, it's very generic, hateable right now, but there's no question that he's going to make all the wrong decisions that
that hurt the people or the people that we love because he doesn't care. And maybe one of the greatest opening scenes ever. I mean, if you want to just like, okay, we're going to start this with a bang. This is what this guy's life is like. I'm pumped about that show. I thought it was really well done. This is the latest from Taylor shared and it's on Paramount. New episodes are on Sunday. I guess probably do one episode a week now. They generally give you a couple to really in like the drug dealers. Here's a couple of free. That's right. Do that upfront. Come back.
Come back and see us. It's really, really, really good. Now you just keep waiting for this guy to, to, you know, have a bomb, like it just gives him math. Just, and I don't know that he has yet. Go. I mean, there's various levels of success, but it has to do with
I mean, like Bass Reeves is not set up to have the same numbers. No, but it was a solid show. Yeah. So you're not talking about like knocking out of the park ratings wise. I just mean the product itself. You'd think he's involved in so many things. I brought up ratings because he's the quality is knocked out of the park and the ratings have mostly knocked it out of the park too. So I mean, we're, I mean, he's doing it at all. Yeah. He's just very, very talented guy. Speaking of new shows,
Uh, Nick, what's his last name? Acosta? Hold on. I'll tell you. Yeah. In Taska, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Javier Bardem are doing Cape Fear on Apple+. Really? Like a movie or a series? 10, 10 part series. The Nick, Nick, um, again, in Taska, he's the guy behind the act on Tulu. He's been nailing all sorts of stuff and then Scorsese and Spielberg.
And then somebody goes, I don't know. Can Bardoon play a creepy killer guy. Come on. Really? Maybe get a haircut. Really? I mean, cause he was the best of all time and no country for old men. Why? And as the bond. Oh, it's bond. Yeah. Absolutely. Who took the hair that everybody tries to use. That's what's going on with the across series. It's like X. Shut up. That's that. I mean, cause, but he did that. I know exactly that.
So this, I, even though I've seen Cape Fear in multiple ways, the Robert De Niro De Niro was the remake and there was an original William holders. Yeah. This, this will, I'm in. Okay. I mean, is that just in conversation about happening or is it green lit?
Well, I know, but I mean, I'm just trying to my head, think about how far out that means. Probably year. Okay. As long as there's no strikes and whatever. Look, right now I'm as happy as a clam. There's just like 800 things to watch. I've got to stack it all up and try to like make a schedule for the week to figure it all out. I'm good. Yeah. To back to our previous conversation about TV and time, Super Bowl has been kicking off at 6.30 for like the last 20, 30 years. It was six o'clock before and in Vegas, it will again local time of 3.30.
There are like two or three races on the F1 calendar that are at this time. And it's Australia and like Japan. Yeah. Everything else is is a lot more digestible for the American audience. So this is kind of an outlier. Yeah, no, it's crazy that it's an American race and it's the most interesting thing to watch is an American. Yeah. Yeah. I got to get up or stay up or get up at the same time as I do for Australia to watch something in my own backyard. Yeah, it's weird. All right. Cape Fear. I'm going to mull over that. That movie was so long ago.
Gary Gregory Pack, I think, was in there. Was it? No. Is that right? I don't really remember the John McDonald novel called the executioners that inspired the Gregory Pack 1962.
Cape Fear, and then the 91 remake with Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte was also in that movie. If you remember, that was Scorsese and produced by Spielberg as well. So they're going back to the well. And they got the right guy. But I'll tell you what I really like is this is what Amazon has done so well is that
You know, you don't read as many fiction books as I do and I read less than I used to. But when you read a really good book, it is so hard to translate that into a two-hour movie. Like, the movie Cape Fear was good. Rob, you know, it was great at it. But, man, like we learned with the Jake Gyllenhaal, presumed innocent, you know, when you get a like rollout, like what it really takes to read a book and all the content that's in there,
Like, they're doing, and Stephen King isn't my favorite, but Lindsey's very excited about this. Like, if you read the book it, the book.
It is full of all of these mentions of Dairy Main and characters and all these people that show up in other books. And there's this whole roadmap through this book. And so now they're going to go do a series about the history of Dairy Main. I mean, like, so there's so much there to, you know, that they just skip in a movie because there's no time. Right. And here we're going to get some of that fabric. I'm interested in that.
And this dude is just creepy. He's such a good actor. So good. Who, Javier? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, he's great in everything. It could be in the F1 film. I know. Oh, did you see the foot, uh, the still photos of Checo and Brad Pitt trade and paint? I did not. Yeah. Yeah. They were out there on the track. When is this thing coming? Do we have any idea? I know these. You know, I don't remember, but it is announced. There is a street date. Is it summer? Or it might be
this holiday. No, you think so? It's dated for sure. Yeah, but I get the sense they're still. I mean, they were just filming in the last race, right? Where were San Paulo? Brad Pitt was walking out in full uniform. Yeah. And now there are photos of June 27. So it's a summer. OK, so we're like eight months away. Yep. All right. Nick's got your three day forecast. We'll be back with more. Stay tuned. And yes, it's already sunny in downtown.
Don't know about your neck of the woods, but right here, it's just fine. Yeah, today, it's going to start off mostly cloudy through mid morning. It'll clear up a high of 64 and some wind tonight, increasing clouds are low of 41 for Wednesday. There's a slight chance of rain before noon, mostly cloudy and windy, then sunny, high near 50. And Thursday, there's a chance of rain and snow, partly sunny and windy, high near 40. Current temperature in downtown Decatur, 59 degrees, your WSOI time is 725.

So I was reading an interview with the producer of F1 as a Bruckenheimer or whatever his name is. And he said that they really had to gain the trust of Red Bull because Red Bull just assumed because Lewis Hamilton was involved in this project that their team would be made the villains in this movie. Yeah, yeah. Makes sense. These people are so dramatic about everything. That's funny. They absolutely are and fans on
There's pictures of him racing Brad Pitts car racing in some Sergio Perez and the fans are savagely like oh movie about a back marker cars or oh this takeover for 17th place. Reddit. Just mean people.
But I guess that is the story is a team that's kind of a classic team that fell on its luck, go into a classic driver to bring them back up. Well, the young driver who's not played by Brad. Yeah, the combination. But the he Brad Pitt was the storyline is
injured in a horrible crash, retires from F1. It was like a driver in the 90s. And what should be right if you do that pitage doesn't look that but it's actual. And then friends with the owner played by Javier Bardim and then they bring him back to mentor this young gun who's the phenom.
to be able to. Oh, he's just, yeah, okay. Yeah, that's kind of the, and that's a practice. I mean, that's an old. Sure. You know, the difference is, you know, Burgess Meredith and Rocky Balboa, you know, the age difference was probably much, much different prep in things. Probably.
First man, it's a penguin shout out. Yeah, the old penguin. Yeah, that was terrible. The Colin Farrell show, though, is really worth watching on HBO. They wrapped up the final season. It's all there to watch if you want to binge it. It's just, you know, if you don't have any sense of enjoying comic books or comic book characters, it may not be your thing. I think it probably could be because it's gritty enough. He's just unrecognizable.

on sports on W. S. O. Y 13 40 a.m. And 103.3 FM streaming live at now, Decatur dot com. Each and every weekday we check in with Mark Tupper and Tupper on sports. All right. Let's start with the line. I. Well, you know, when Josh Whitman became the athletic director at Illinois in 2016, he knew football was broken.
And men's and women's basketball were underachieving. And he walked in the door prepared to make head coaching changes in all three sports. He had a plan for each, although his plan for football and men's, excuse me, and women's basketball did not work out at first. You know, he famously tried that Hail Mary hire in football when he pulled a stunner by hiring former Chicago Bears head coach, Lubby Smith.
The buzz at first was loud. People were really excited. But even though Lovey had an eye for evaluating talent, he couldn't get his staff right.
And he was just a bad match for all the things a college coach needs to be enthusiastic about working with donors and the larmans, being a face in the community, and playing the media game. His first choice to run the women's basketball program was Nancy Faye, who'd won five Division III national titles at Washington University, where Josh had been the athletic director,
She was a terrific person and a coach. She just could not recruit at the Division I level. So Josh had to turn to Plan B there as well. And he got it right right off the bat in men's basketball with Brad Underwood running the program there. And then his Plan B choices of Brett Buhlman football and Shawna Green in women's basketball worked out too. And I'm guessing yesterday
was a day of great satisfaction and celebration for Josh Whitman because for the first time in 24 years, the Alainai football, men's basketball and women's basketball team all landed in the AP top 25.
The football team rejoined the top 25. They're number 24 now after beating Michigan State to move to 7 and 3. They are at Rutgers on Saturday. The men's basketball team is now ranked at number 25 in that poll after a 3 and 0 start.
and they have a difficult showdown with eighth ranked Alabama tomorrow night. And then the women's basketball team is ranked 22nd, and yesterday drew a crowd of nearly 13,500 to what they call their field trip day game, Romp over Lemoine. That is a free admission game in which elementary school classes are encouraged to
to come to the game. Really a great PR idea because a lot of those kids had a ball at the game. They're going to go home and tell mom and dad, can we go to another Illinois women's basketball game and some of them are going to buy tickets? So, you know, recruiting is always the key thing. I think in both basketball situations, they're doing a really good job. Football is always the biggest challenge, but I know Josh Fus, name, image, like this,
as a as an opportunity for them to sort of even the playing field very difficult to recruit with Ohio State if you don't have some equalizer and they think name image likeness can be the equalizer. So congratulations to all three teams all in the top 25. All right. Another ugly mess for the Cowboys last night. We'll get into that with Mark on the other side of the break. It's brought to you by First National Bank with locations in Peina, Assumption, Taylorville, Blue Mound, and Decatur.

back here with Mark Tupper and Tupper on sports. All right. Moving over to the NFL and the Cowboys. You know, every time I see Jerry Jones and as owner and general manager, the Dallas Cowboys for whatever reason, he can't wait to get in front of a camera. He looks older and older and more and more distraught. And this has been an especially rough season for the Cowboys and things got worse last night when the Houston Texans beat the Cowboys 34 to 10.
That was their fifth straight loss for the three and seven Cowboys. Dallas is now 0 and 5 at home. They've lost their quarterback. Dak Prescott for the season following hamstring surgery. They've got injuries up and down the offensive line. Their coach Mike McCarthy is under siege in this the final year of his contract.
I don't think there's any way out of this nightmare, at least not this season. Cooper Rush has taken over a quarterback and he's just a placeholder. I don't think players purposely give up on their coach, but they know what's going on. Mike McCarthy will get to play out the year, but Jerry Jones will surely press the full reset button in the off-season. New head coach, new coaching staff, probably a top 10 draft pick.
The Cowboys are a unique franchise. There's always been a national interest in this team, and I would say a fascination with them. And when you watch the Cowboys, part of the experience is to monitor the facial expressions of their 82-year-old owner in the luxury box. And this season, it's a succession of these cringing, exasperating looks from a guy who
who sees the season basically crashing to the ground. This week, Dallas travels to Washington to play the seven and four commanders, and then they'll host the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day. And yesterday, the Giants said they're switching quarterbacks
in turning to former line at quarterback Tommy DeVito. So drama with the Cowboys. That seems to always be the case. And this season, the theme is how low can you go? And it looks like it can go pretty low. All right, my friend, enjoy your day. Hope you're feeling better. Mark Topper and Topper on sports. It's hard to believe. I grew up as a kid when Dallas started that reputation as America's team. Roger Staubach and Tony Dorsett and
They had some Hollywood haze. They said, like, or Henderson, I think it was his name. They had some wonderful characters. And they went to the Super Bowl, literally in 71 and 77. And then the last time they won the NFC Championship was 1995. Yep. And the last Super Bowl was 1995. That was a year before I started doing this radio show almost 30 years. Wow.
Troy Eggman wasn't an announcer. Emmett Smith wasn't a retired guy in commercials. Michael Irvin wasn't a TV guy. But I mean, it's in possibly long time without success. It's a long, long time. And so I there, yes, do they do the sold out games and you've told me about the value of your tickets, you know, with the Falcons when they play the Cowboys. But, you know, to people born in the last 15, 20 years, you know, the next wave of fans, did they consider the Cowboys America's team? I don't know.
they have the palace they have the hype they have they've had stars of people like to follow so but they haven't won so and winning probably not winning is probably wind their fan base but they are clearly the team they're the most valuable franchise and in the United States if not the world don't know why they're just a brand I get it but I still do I mean that brand has to have some sort of polishing every once in a while I mean
How always competitive. Yeah. They're, they're a team that when you look at, well, they're not competitive this year. That's fault. The wheels have come off, but you, you look going into any year. You're like, Oh, they're, they're going to be right there in the thick of things always. They're going to be in the thick of things in the NFC East beyond that. They're not much of a threat of anything and haven't been for a very long time. There's, yeah. Tony Romo couldn't do it. I mean, they just, they just, they don't win big games anymore. I know.
I was just stunned to realize it was 1995. That is a long one. I was a teenager. I know, but they had that that second round of glory and they had great coat. All of them was at the coaches. Yeah. That's not it anymore. I watched a little bit of a game last night. It was just horrible. It's awful. Like who is that out there? Battle of Texas. Not really. Not really. That was the Alamo there last night. All right. We've got to take a break. Can we get back to Coli in studios? Stay tuned.

You're listening to Buyers & Company, streaming live at nowdicator.com. All right, we're back here at Del Collean Studios. We're going to get you in and out here quick. Del's got a meeting. But let me know what's happening tonight at five o'clock. It'll be Lauren and Meghan in tonight. Lauren Meghan will be in there tonight. I'm at Richland Community College tonight. We're going to have Gary Reibold, who's the director of the government affairs from the American Pharmacists Co-op.
To discuss the pharmacist fight back act event that Lauren attended in Washington DC last week. One of the Democratic Massachusetts Democratic representatives and chair James Comer spoke out about strongly bipartisan support for this bill, which is going to help alleviate a lot of issues for independent pharmacies, which we're a big time fans of.
The push last week in DC was to include the reimbursement reform at language into this thing here, which basically removes a lot of the money that's flowing through to the PBMs and given it to the insured patients and also to the providers pharmacies and the insurance companies. So that's a positive on that side of things.
And I didn't want to make a note, Brian, we've we confirmed with Express Scripts yesterday that the letter that many of the participants have received was in air and we are able to fill prescriptions for 2025. We'll be discussing this as as well as some Medicare Part D updates. And if you get a letter that says that you
are no longer able to come to Dale Salick pharmacy or Cola's corner drug. Give us a call and verify that because we found on two different occasions that that's not that's not the case at all. So the PBMs are sending out these.
these letters in an effort to get the people to switch to the farm. OK, we got these letters at home. I was just telling you during the break. And, you know, it looks official and you go, OK, what does this mean? You're no longer in the network. And it was like, wait a minute. Now I can't go to my local pharmacist. None of this makes sense to me at all. None of it makes sense at all. But it all has to do with the PBMs, Express Scripts and Optum and those.
Those individuals are, they are deciding what plans go to which pharmacies. It's not even the plans that are decided. It's the, it's the PBMs, the people, the middleman is deciding this thing here, which is.
It makes no sense whatsoever. I mean, A, first of all, when you do this as a consumer, when you don't have choice, you know what happens, right? I mean, when you squeeze everybody over into one thing, they're going to charge whatever they want to charge. Absolutely. And once they eliminate your competition, it'll be a candy bar of the door. So you're absolutely correct, Brian. All right. And then Clear Springs Health Part D plans will not be available for 2025. Yep. And so if you are in a Clear Springs Health Part D plan right now,
you will not be able to have them in next year. So be certain that you contact us or someone to get into a different plan because if you don't make a choice, they will drop you into a plan and that may or may not be your best plan. So if you don't do this until December 7th, you have, right? And then if you don't do it, they'll choose for you.
They'll choose for you. And that might not be in your best interest on that. But if you've got any questions all about Medicare Part D, open enrollment, we're still taking appointments through December the 7th. And so make sure you call us sign up with with someone at Dale Southlake pharmacy, 217-429-5165.
All right, Dale, we'll get you out of here and get to your meeting. And as always, five o'clock tonight, Lauren and Megan will be in for some pharmacy facts with friends. If you can't join them live, you can listen to the podcast right after the show at now to cater.com. We appreciate it. Next got your three day forecast. We'll be back with more right after this. Today, mostly cloudy through mid morning, then clearing a high of 64 and windy tonight, increasing clouds low around 41.
For Wednesday, there's a slight chance of rain before noon, mostly cloudy and windy. Then sunny after that, with a high of 50 Thursday, chance of rain, chance of snow, partly sunny and windy, high near 40. The current temperature in downtown Decatur is 59 degrees. Good morning and welcome. We are back here on a what is a beautiful looking morning in downtown Decatur Sunshine. Why? So after days and days of what's felt like rain and gray and be windy out there for sure as Nick just said, but that's okay. Yeah, make sure you know where your leaf bags or your trash cans. Oh, I was driving in this morning and it was like a Mad Max movie of road litter. Yep. Worrying about dodging deer. It was like dodging trash cans and bags of garbage and
At one point I'm like, are those like the pool, you know, those like pool noodles? Yes. It's like where those come from.
up and out of anything. Gnomes and decorations. It was quite the experience driving in this morning. We're usually out for anybody gets up and cleans up their yard, but it's going to be windy. So I'm going to tie down the furniture and put a little extra reinforcement in there. It's going to be that way for a while. Also today, a little later, we'll be handing out all the money and prizes for the WSOY community food drive. Looking forward to that.
Well, thanks, St. Teresa for hosting us today. There'll be a lot of people there. And then a little later in the show, well, about five minutes from now, we'll have the last gift from the partnership between the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation and the Decatur Earthmover Credit Union, folks. They've given away a ton of money this year. Just that project alone. Yeah, and to a variety of places, and they've
paced us out. Like they've IV dripped us along and now we're at the end. Yeah, crazy. It's been a great year. Just a ton of stuff over and over and over. But the last 50,000 was a surprise gift that they delivered last week that we're going to tell you about.
on the air today. Cool. And then a little later in the program, this announcement that was made yesterday about this new partnership, this manufacturing education group launching a chapter here in Decatur will find out from workforce investment and ADM what that's going to look like and who all is involved. When does it start? How does it work? We'll get into all the details coming up around 830 this morning.
Another awesome one. I think so. I'd like to know, I mean, you know, how? I know what? Yeah. I know why.
How? Yeah, right. And maybe that's not all. But this fame, which is the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education, I told you, Mark Dinsler was telling me about it yesterday. They started, I think, a Toyota plant opened somewhere and they needed to sort of get a workforce ready. And this is how I think, at least what Mark told me. And then they kind of moved to other chapters and they're spreading throughout the United States. So, evidently, they know what they're doing.
or you wouldn't keep repeating it. It has similar needs also. I mean, it lines up with what we're looking to do. Yeah, you're going to have a pipeline of highly skilled workers. And then with the demand about how manufacturing will continue to evolve. I mean, today's manufacturing isn't like what my dad's day of manufacturing back in the 1960s would have been completely different.
And so that pipeline, I think once you get it open and you get it flowing, there's no reason why I can't keep going. That's right. Because if the results are what the results are going to be, people are going to trickle down in terms of the way they talk. Oh, yeah, I went through it. It was great. I make this much money. I got my own house. You know, all that sort of stuff. The next person goes, I want that. Yeah. And then the next, I mean, so it's one of those things that you're right.
kind of going. People can see it. They can wrap their head around it. They get the first hand endorsement from people that have done it. And then you're off to the races. And somebody's cousin did this. And that's the anecdotal evidence of it really happening. Causes maybe people who wouldn't believe or don't believe they see it with their own two eyes. Dr. Juanita Mortis yesterday talked about graduating five adults in a program as well. It's yes. Five lives impacted average. Right. Every household
you know, the averages for people. So there's 20 people directly or very significantly directed.
Now think of the different people that they talk to or the next group or whatever. And so then you're watching the exponential growth. Yeah. But now that you've built the trust and people know it's going to work and it's a whole other thing. But that's a huge heavy lift up front. That's right. People just don't realize the work that goes into the first. You know, the second gets a little easier. The third gets a little easier than that by the time you get the 10th, as long as you don't stall out or you keep moving, it just goes. It just goes. But that first, second, that's hard. A lot of work.
So anyway, but the mission is an outstanding one, literally. Our goal is to bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring that our graduates are not only job ready, but also equipped to drive innovation within the manufacturing sector. And the thing that I'll take, if there's any cynic bone in my body, this is the thing that I would look at and I'm happy about, is this sounds exactly like a two-way street. It sounds like
Hey, the people need us. We need this education. We need these opportunities. We need all that. But also the company is saying, we need the people.
We need this. We need better. I mean, it is clearly a tuition. Absolutely. It may be even a more one way street from the company right now that then then it will be down the road because if we're going to be competitive, if we look at this I fan, you know, grant and this connection between Decatur and Champagne because in Champagne, that's going to drive science and research and education.
indicator it's going to drive manufacturing. And when I say manufacturing, I think a lot of people don't realize how evolved that word is today versus what it used to be. I mean, it isn't. Here's your lunch pail dudging into the factory. I mean, there's all kinds of
science, we don't even understand yet and what that might mean. But the only way you do that is to have a pipeline of workforce because there will be people and there are. There's projects right now that are big projects that if the workforce is there, they're coming back with one equally sized. And the only reason they're not doing two at once is because they don't know if they can even get the workforce for one, let alone two. Right. So it's impaired.
to the survival of this community and not just survive, but to thrive. That's exactly right. You know, and companies build factories in two different states or, you know, thousands of miles away. And for that reason, hey, we don't have the people let alone double, but we're talking about opportunity here that's ready to scale. Yes. I mean, just get there. Yep.
So I saw Greg Webb who was there yesterday, you know, vice president of state government relations for ADM. Good guy. We've been working with Greg for a long time. He seemed excited about this. So we'll we'll learn more coming up around 8 30 this morning. We will have Rocky Wilkerson from workforce develop our workforce investment solutions and then Hannah King, who is a HR specialist with ADM. And we get the layout. I'm stoked. I think it's I'm rather good. It was fun going. A lot of people there, a lot of partners, a lot of people. OK.
Now, how do we do this? And then our friends from France are stopping by this week. I'm so excited about this. Details coming. Stay tuned. We're everywhere. You are WSOY Decatur 1340 AM and 103.3 FM streaming live at now Decatur.com. This is RJ Christ with your stories.
Now, yesterday at the Michael Madigan trial, a federal jury got an inside look at a series of FBI raids conducted in 2019. Yesterday's witness list featured FBI agents involved in nine separate raids on the same afternoon. A number of agents have told the jury they were unable to find any work product from a handful of political allies close to Madigan who are indirectly paid by electric utility ComEd. Prosecutors allege ComEd paid the no work contractors as a bribe to the speaker in exchange for favorable legislation.
