I'm Dave Anthony Fox News. That's how long Russia's war in Ukraine is lasted. Good morning and welcome to the Tuesday edition of fires in company. A lot to get to here today. We'll have the heart of Illinois Community Foundation, Mark Tupper and Tupper on sports and a press conference yesterday in studios, ADM and workforce investment solutions next.
Good morning. And how do you do? Back in the saddle, man. It is windy. It's hard for me to believe that next week is Thanksgiving. I read yesterday 80 million like a record number of people expected to travel this Thanksgiving. I have no reason not to believe that. It just it doesn't feel like next week is Thanksgiving.
Well, it's not right. Wait, yeah, I guess we still have the rest of this week. We're 10 days out, but we, I mean, yeah, you're right. I mean, it's literally, you know, exactly the 28th and it just feels like maybe the older you get the quicker all this goes by and every year it feels like it's just sort of slipping away. But it's like how in the world did we get to Thanksgiving already? Unbelievable.
I'll take it whatever it is weather wise. I don't today the wind gust or pretty nasty out there. But nothing's going to stop us today. We'll be handing out all the food drive money, which is one of my favorite days of the year. And we'll be doing that a little bit later today. Watch for the coverage on now to cater.com. Very interesting yesterday. Had a press conference at 10 o'clock. We have our Monday meeting. I had to leave a little early to head out there to
workforce investment solutions where the event was hosted. And we're going to talk a little bit about this in the eight o'clock hour, representative from ADM and workforce will be in to explain this. I was asking Mark Denzel yesterday, I had a meeting over in Springfield at the Ronald McDonald house.
what this prairie land fame is and fame, which is this interesting thing. I think started around a Toyota plant. Mark was telling me and it's about getting kids into manufacturing and it's kind of spread around. And now there's being one brought here. They'll work with the kids in public schools, schools everywhere.
and do this thing, which is fairly interesting about literally, it's called Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education, that's what fame stands for. And they've partnered up, I was looking at the logos on the banner they had, it was like Mueller Company and the railroad and ADM and Richland. And so as we've talked about this a million times, you know, you can't just do this the way we've been doing it for the last 25 years, there's so many different pathways.
uh... for people to employment uh... and particularly high school kids and what they might be thinking about versus what they might be thinking about and anyway i i want to get into a little deeper so we asked if they would join us today and uh... we're gonna have with us rocky wilkerson uh... from uh... workforce uh... investment and then hand a king who was a charge specialist with eighty and they'll talk to a little how how does this work uh... you know i get the concept but how does it
You know, how do you get into the schools? How do you get in front of the kids? How do you get the kids interested? You know, what are their internships? You know, what does this whole process look like? We'll do that a little later. And then the final $50,000 gift from the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation, they were able to drop as a surprise this week on an organization and we'll have Jess and Rachel in.
Let's tell you where that last $50,000 went. It seems like yesterday and of course being almost Thanksgiving, it basically was almost a year ago. We were standing in the parking lot at the Peter Earth, move a credit union announcing this whole million dollar thing. And here we are coming to the final conclusion today. That is a, that's a thing that's snuck up on us because
that we've been chronicling that and watching every bit of the way. So that the end has snuck up on me. I've enjoyed it. It's been a great year. It has been wonderful. And the folks at EarthMover and of course the Hart of Illinois Community Foundation and then all the people who volunteered to be on that committee to sort of look at applications and review grant requests and
That's not an easy job. I'm telling you, if you've ever been, you know, on a committee with the United Way, you know, as Joe Citizen, you know, you sit there and you hear the presentations and you decide to direct where the funding is going to go. And, you know, it's not that any of them are bad. It's just like, you know, you have to make choices. It's hard.
And everybody brings their own baggage biases. And sometimes people just want to go, why don't we just split it evenly? Or do we make sure everybody gets us something? Yeah. And you got to decide, can we go all the way here and make a difference? Does something over there even matter? It's easier now, particularly with United Way funding when the focus shifted years ago.
to reward results because I think at the end of the day when people give their own money, they don't have the time to vet and do all of that. And they want to know they're getting the biggest bang for their charitable dollar. That's right. And so if I know it's going someplace that's producing results, it's working. Oh, absolutely. It's been an investment as much as it is a gift. It's exactly what it is. It's investment.
So anywho, we got a lot to get through here today. No, Kyle, maybe he did some some talking points that will help him throw that out there. Next week, we'll have the auction. That's going to be right a week from today, 6 to 9 a.m. If you want your chance to get local stuff at a deeply discounted price or be able to bid on it and get it at a good price, we'll be doing that from 6 to 9 a.m. So make sure you tune in. We'll have all the details later this week about what it is exactly.
that we have to offer. So it's a pretty good list, I think, of stuff. We basically sell out every time we do this. And so by the end of the show at 9 a.m., we've sold a lot of stuff for local businesses and advertisers and can't wait to do that. We do know what the high school playoff situation looks like for this weekend. And I wanted to go over that because we've got the line. I've asked a ball game where they
at Alabama tomorrow night. There's nothing tonight. And then I think the Steelers and the Browns at the NFL game Thursday on W. D. Z. And then Saturday we roll it out with a pregame show at 9 a.m. Alina will be at Rutgers at 10 a.m. Alina basketball will be at 3 p.m. that day. That will be W. S. O. Y. Is our Saturdays with two sports going on now are really packed with the Alina. And then W. D. Z.
Uh, we'll be carrying the Marilla Forsyth at Johnston City 3 15 PM pregame and then Mount Zion at normal. You high will be the 6 45 pregame or immediately after Marilla, whichever comes first. So those games will be on W D Z back to back. And then of course you can stream those if you're traveling on the road or whatever.
on your phone, or of course, listen to the station as you want to on whatever you want. So I don't know. Do we know anything about Johnston City or normal union high? At this point, I don't have any clue. I don't have a clue either. Normal, normal you. I feel like back when I was in high school, they were in our conference and we played them.
I remember this. I don't know how much value this has. This is a half make memory, but they were big kids. I don't know if that needs to go in the scouting report for this weekend, but it says 20 years ago those kids were large. Yeah. And we know I don't know. I'm looking forward to both these teams marching forward. Let's let's keep it going. Well, it would be awesome that Friday after Thanksgiving, you know, when they do all the state games, it'd be a blast.
that's your schedule for this weekend. We'll check in with topper a little bit later today for the rest of sports. And then there's plenty of a line. That's the thing about basketball. You forget just how often they play, but you can get the full schedule at not a cater.com. So yesterday it was also announced. Remember, we had our friends from Franklin Grove in last Friday. They're going to have a Franklin Grove Elementary is excited to invite family friends and community members to their winter concert. I want to throw this out here because they were just in with us.
The event will showcase the musical talents of students across all grades as they perform festive songs and celebrate the holiday season. And it is Thursday, December 12th. If you want to put that on your calendar at 8 30 AM performances by 3rd through 6th graders at 10 AM performance by the kindergarten through 2nd.
grades and that will take place Thursday, December 12th at Franklin Grove in their gymnasium where you can enter through the East doors. That's 24 40 North Summit. So they're inviting the general community and family members and friends to come out and celebrate the holidays with Franklin Grove. The tornadoes. Awesome. I was really, really impressed by their visit and what they've got going on there. Well, it's there's a lot of great stuff.
It's the thing that you learn if you scratch at all the surface of what the stereotype or the perception of District 61 is we try to do that each Friday morning at 7 a.m. and you get a sense of you know they were in they had just a whole deck of stuff that they were doing including collecting food for the food drive you know all this was you know heading into the fall.
And it's pretty amazing when you get to just interglimps into what's taking place. You get to see this every day. You're an educator and I'm a little jealous of it is that you get kind of a sense of where kids are in a classroom every day and the communication there's a little different than what it might be at home with parents. And you probably come away with a lot more positive. I'm sure there are days that are challenging or individuals or whatever. But for the most part, it has to round up to positive. It does. It's something that I've
I've enjoyed doing for a long, long time and been fortunate to do. And the energy that that it brings when you watch it collectively, when it's your kid, you have too much skin in the game. You know, you're looking at everything through a very specific lens and you don't want anything to upset them and you don't want anything to go awry or anything to be.
you know, not perfect for them. But when you look at it like you just step back one level and you get to look at it regularly, you see a lot of joy, a lot of curiosity, a lot of exploring, a lot of a lot of problem solving, you know, when you're in high school,
It magnifies everything magnifies. Everything is, you know, if I don't get this, I'm going to die. If I don't, you know, everything's huge. And then you watch them solve that and come back to, you know, to feel positive or good. This is by, you know, by and large and the overwhelming majority. But to your point, kids are, I feel bright. That's a lot of my optimism comes from seeing kids and realizing that they're looking at the world in a way to
optimistically and in a way cautiously pessimistically about, Hey, but we can change that or we couldn't do that. So it's it is a pick me up. That was a very long winded answer. I just sort my mail. Yeah. Yes. I like seeing that. Absolutely. We also had a Devin concert announcement yesterday with the band Nelson. Yeah. Now they I know played the Decatur celebration. Yes. Yeah. Right.
Yeah, it had to have been here because I've seen them and I know I wouldn't go to see them. So it had to have been here. It had to have been.
I don't know what it is about Monday morning, why it seems like they're we get an email from the Devon and then we get an email from the State Farm Center and then we get an email from like the State Fair. Why do they always arrive at the same time? Is there a is there something magical about 10 a.m. on Monday? It isn't really a big news cycle time. But why is it that those always come on top of each other? It's something that gets hammered on Friday, maybe buttoned up
you know, Monday morning and it's go. And so it's just a typical embargo time. It was not embargo. I mean, it literally just comes out.
It's internally like, Hey, we're going to, we're going to launch this or we're going to announce this money, not embargoed to the press like, Hey, sit on this for three days and then launch it, but more like, Hey, we're going to go live with this thing Monday morning. Turn the, turn the ticket sites on sometimes get it up on our website and gives us enough time. Okay. Here's what I know. Tickets are going to sale November 22nd at 10 AM at Devin amphitheater.com and remember,
Please purchase your tickets at Devin amphitheater.com. The secondary market is full of knock offs and rip offs and everything else. And it is also included in the 2025 Devin season ticket package. So these first two announcements, they've both been part of the season package as well. So Nelson, the only thing I know, I remember they, you know, they had a couple of big hits and some videos and they had the hair and they were the sons of Rick Nelson, right? Right.
They had a hit song. Is that I'm the one who wants to be with you? That I would not be able to tell you. Yeah, they had a really big song. And then then they were they when I was a kid or when they got big, they it was tied to the guys from Nick at night. Right. Yeah. And their names were Matthew and Gunner.
And they were the twin sons of Ricky Nelson. The early 90s, the album was called After the Rain. I can't live without your love and affection was one of the songs. I don't know how many hits they had. It was catchy. It was fun. I think they played a good show at celebration from what I remember. Yeah, I just found a photo of them at the celebration. OK. So I don't have a year, but I just saw a photo from
somebody that was listing previous acts there. Yeah, did they do a song for Bill and Ted's excellent adventure? I don't know that. I'm just looking at their wiki page. That was pretty big at that time. So we now have that announcement. That's June 14th. So I'm sure they'll be filling in the blanks and doing all that. I love how the picture has the old school, the press release.
with the approved artwork from the band has like what they look like now down, like sitting on a couch and then behind them is like the big blow up of what they looked like then. I like that. That's fun. I mean, you're the whole thing's a memory. You know, they're not making new that I'm aware of chart relevant music, you know, so it's like, hey, this is the thing that to remember.
I mixed up that song. I'm pretty sure there's a band called Mr. Big that's saying that song. I remember Mr. Big. Is that them? That could have been. I don't know. Well, we anyway, we have that announced yesterday and they're ready to go sitting on the couch reflecting on the days of all the bleach. Most people run away from those memories like those pictures. Well, if it made you millions of dollars, I lean right into it.
when I'd be duct tape and hair on the top of my head. And I always wondered about their logo, too. It was always very interesting. The art behind it. Like, what are those birds that are like around the inn and the inn? I would have to look at it. I can think of the shape in my head, but not not the OK, so it's Nelson twins.com.
Yeah, it looks like some form of wings. Yeah, it's a it's a bird. Is it a bird? Is it a dragon? What is that? Because they pull the bird out and use it elsewhere. It looks like they got a full tour coming. This is good. All right. Good. Good for them. We get to see him here at Decatur. Yeah. And they look pretty good in the photo. That's what I'm saying. I mean, that's why I'm surprised they lean, you know, back into like early 1990s.
Yeah, they, yeah, they look. I think this will be a fun show. Well, this talented family, I think Rick Nelson was one of the most unsung great artists of our time. I mean, he died very young and all that was tragic. But there are some great songs that he did. You know, he grew up one of those kid actors, singers, you know, at a time where there wasn't a lot of support and I think that that stuff
Well, if you think about all of the kids from your childhood that were breaking into TV or into fame, it didn't end well for most of them. Right. And I couldn't remember what shows on Aussie and Harriet. Oh, yeah. I like that show. Movies and stuff, too. I mean, it was, you know, I'd still, I think Garden Party is a great song. I don't know that one. I don't know by name. OK, I'll check it out.
That would be a hard one not to know by name. It's like, I mean, it's like the opening line. Yeah. Yeah. That one. Okay. Now I get it. I got it. Wait, what's monster? Yeah, some just if you sound it out, you get it. There you have it. Nick's got your three day forecast. Looks like we got a lot of wind today. It was nice to see everybody there at the Ronald McDonald House and he is the outgoing

Now, yesterday at the Michael Madigan trial, a federal jury got an inside look at a series of FBI raids conducted in 2019. Yesterday's witness list featured FBI agents involved in nine separate raids on the same afternoon. A number of agents have told the jury they were unable to find any work product from a handful of political allies close to Madigan who are indirectly paid by electric utility ComEd. Prosecutors allege ComEd paid the no work contractors as a bribe to the speaker in exchange for favorable legislation.

Fox News, I'm Chris Foster. Russian President Vladimir Putin formally lowers the threshold for using nuclear weapons. Now Russia's nuclear doctrine states it could consider using nuclear weapons in the face of a conventional assault supported by a nuclear power.
This is said to be the Kremlin's response to President Joe Biden letting Ukraine fire U.S. made long-range missiles deep into Russia.

I see a peak of sun over to the east as we're getting ready for a full-born morning here. I fell off a little.
better than what we had this morning. It was just dark and then dark gray. We had the super moon the other night, the last one of the year, I believe. Now it's just sixty mile hour winds and crazy. All right. As I said, today we'll be handing out the the goods, the school awards, the sponsor recognition, the
big checks. And we couldn't do it without a whole lot of people and too many to go through the whole list right now, but you know who you are. And when I look at the amount, it's just staggering to me. And then I look at the impact and all the corners of our county and all from little tiny food banks and libraries and churches to what they do every single day, Northeast Community Fund and everything in between.
pretty amazing. There's 18 checks. That's awesome. That's awesome. And in watching the community engage, you know, like you said, the names are too long to list, but down to the individuals, the people that were inspired on the fly, the people that saved up for the classrooms that at a micro level competed against others, the schools, it competed at a school level. I mean, businesses that wanted to pull up with the logo on their trucks and say, Hey, look what we got. Look what we were able to do. Is it awesome? Yeah.
very proud day. It was a well, but this is the good day. Oh, yeah. This is the spike that everything gets to get handed out and put to work. So we'll be at say T and looking forward to seeing all the folks who are involved. So thank you to them for hosting. So we've got that and so much more. F1's back in Las Vegas this week. I feel like I don't remember this big absence after the big absence like this last year.
Well, I mean, the calendar is very similar, but you're, you're right. This feels almost like a second summer break between and a lot of items that going on if you think about it. Yeah. They did announce that Canada is going to move their spot in the rotation to be more aligned with North America.
So it makes sense be around the Miami race. That's the one thing that doesn't, well, they, then they're going to have to, you know, I don't know why they don't just kind of like, you know, you could do Mexico. I mean, you could do South America, Canada, the US and you feel like if you got to move all that stuff, why you'd want to do that twice a year. I don't know. Because they, they don't want to cannibalize that, you know, they're same markets. I mean, the country's huge.
But they think, hey, if we do one here in a month later, do it over there in the US that a lot of people aren't willing to travel to both. And here's the crazy thing is that they don't take that approach to Europe at all. And Europe's way closer than Miami is to Texas. I know, but some places are like, well, you're not going to Monaco. You can't afford it. Yeah. No, but I mean, it's a 100% landmass population-wise. Yeah. We're not as established and baked in like that yet. That makes sense.
They have replaced. I was reading yesterday, you know, because if you've been to Vegas, there's so many roads and things you climb over and go over. And they used to just have the strip was just wide open. It was the Wild Wild West. And I liked it a lot better that way than I do today. Just walking the strip was fun because you got to see the atmosphere and all the ambiance. It's a lot harder to do that today.
just because they had accidents with taxis and citizens on the sidewalks and got to be a lawsuit nightmare. And so now they've kind of people proofed it. But in doing so, there's little areas where you would be able to get a peek into the race, perhaps without paying for a ticket. And God forbid that might happen or build an excitement about wanting to buy a ticket. So they put like the vinyl wraps stuff around it last year and people just tore it off. Right. Now they've put up metal. Sure.
Smart. Is it? They'll drill it off. They'll tin snip it off. Unless of it will be done that way. Vinyl. I probably wouldn't have a problem poking a hole and just putting my eyeball against it. People or something. My question is, like, I get that you're charging an arm and a leg for people to go to this thing.
But it's like a baseball game in the middle of a city. If you live in the 10th floor of an apartment that's adjacent, you're going to be able to look in on the game. That's right. I mean, there's nothing you can do about that. That's why I mean, you're doing it in the middle of a city. There are plenty of people that live in Monaco that aren't buying tickets because they live inside the race. Yeah. Those balconies and a lot of that's paid. But a lot of it. I mean, if I live there,
Oh, yeah, man, I would probably have mine on Airbnb or something. If I lived in if I had a balcony, I'm sure that probably takes place. Oh, yeah. But my point is you're never going to get all the eyeballs, the free eyeballs off an outdoor event in the middle of a city. But anything at ground level, they'd like to get rid of. I guess I just it feels like I don't know.
The Las Vegas race, I understand the appeal to people. I mean, it is like Monaco, but more accessible. I mean, it's one of those things that the attraction is not just the race. It's the venue. I get why that's very attractive to a lot of people. It seems, honestly, like it would be the last place I would go given the choices here in America first and foremost. And maybe would go to Canada over, you know, doing that. It just, it looks like a nightmare.
They have a they've they've got the entry cost decent now relative to you get a whole weekend. You know, 500 bucks for a whole weekend seems fairly fair. But you don't get the access all of it like you do almost everywhere else you go. I mean, you got to pick. I mean, on some of the stuff, it's free or.
like if you go to silver or one of the other races, whatever your ticket is, wherever it is, you get access to the grounds. I mean, you get to see all the stuff they've got up and they got some freebie stuff outside with some of the hotels and things. But it's sectioned off. So, I mean, you're only getting that narrow. I mean, that's the experience you get is that section you've bought a ticket.
for for the race itself. But like you said, sure, you can, but I've looked at the map there. There's some like T mobile has a whole experience zone. And then you go to your chair. Okay, wherever that is. I mean, so there is some of that baked in. And like you said, the hotels each have pop ups and there's shops and stuff, but it's it's my function of
you know the way that they narrow in that track it's there's nowhere for people is kind of freewheel wheel and deal there's not the grounds if you will you access it over here you're right it's somewhat limited i'd just it would not be my thing and even looking at the recording times you know i'm reminded again it's like they're doing this for europe you know instead of doing it for here and i don't understand yet yes you have the people who pay a lot of money to go see it but that would be
dwarf by the number of people I would think that would watch it if you weren't airing it in the middle of the night. I don't have the answer that. I'm assuming there's a way larger global audience than there is in the United States at this point. Yes, for sure. But if the idea is to grow your audience here, that's why they had it here. And so they want you to show up and travel to it and experience it in person.
They want this beautiful glowing race to be in prime time. I get that prime time being prime time for who though for the their biggest audience, which is what? Over there. I don't know what that means. I mean, is that is that Europe? Is that South America? Is that Japan? Is that China? I don't know. I don't have the answer to that at all. Be interesting. I just feel like it's crazy that we have a whole race.
And it's the most inconvenient time of the entire tour as a spectator. I don't mind getting up at 6 a.m. to watch something. But I don't want to stay up till 12 30 before it starts. Right. So I looked at the schedule of events because it's happening this week. So we've got literally practice one is at 8.29 p.m. on the 21st. So Thursday.
Practice two is on 11 54 p.m. on Thursday. So six minutes before Friday morning. Friday practice three is at 8 24. Qualifying is 11 54 p.m. and the race 11 54 p.m. Saturday night. And that's six minutes before Sunday. That's our time. Our time. Okay. So 10 o'clock is what time they want. They want to go that. Okay.
treating it like a fight, like fight night. Mm hmm. A little bit. But, you know, Mike Tyson and Jake Paul didn't fight. I mean, the whole shenanigans didn't start at 11.54. It rolled out at what time. Yes. Seven is when it started. People will be in the stands probably seven or eight, too, but you're right. Anyway, I just, I'd forgotten last year the experience of, you know, and then how screwed up it was when the
when Carlos's car got destroyed by the drain cover and then how much that delayed everything. And it was a mess with the fans because they had paid and didn't. The whole thing was just, I mean, I think it overall, once it was all done.
was a success, but it started out with really kind of like, and are they going to do all that stuff with like the DJs and the elevators to the roof and the whole rock star thing? You're how uncomfortable it was at the end of the race when they had to get into cars, like inject drive and it was like really like Sergio and Charles and Maxwell. They did the cool down room in a car. Yeah. They'll probably do a good chunk of that. Okay. But some of it will be tightened up, I'm sure.
I think that they left overall last year thinking, okay, we can build on this and this was successful and we had a good race. Yeah. And maybe they tighten it up and maybe it is a whole different thing this year. It has potential to be my favorite. Okay. Because if they tighten up that, all that stuff, then I think it's a really special thing that we have because you can't replicate Vegas. No, there's nothing you can do. I mean, you know, the sphere alone, you know, is a spectacle unlike what most
other than like Abu Dhabi or some of those things under the lights where they do night races and they do it up with the fireworks and everything else. It is cool to look at at night. And the race was good. It was fast. There were good, good. I mean, I think just and I like the idea of a good show and stuff around it. So it has potential. It just wasn't there yet. It was like the minus.
such a Max Verstappen is such a I don't even know how to begin to explain his curmudgeon. He is but then he'll just turn around and surprise you. I mean he is he's like many things at one time which is fine. That's what most people are. His default is to I don't like it.
And then his second is, I'm going to troll you and then, and then he's just nice guy. Okay. So that's the, I don't know, but, but this is the guy. Okay. Who didn't want to be the rock star. I mean, he hated all of these stuff before they race. He just wants to race, but then he shows up to race and an Elvis uniform. It's like,
Right. So he complained about it. I get it over here. Then he leaned in on the mean. Yeah. He's a mean kid. Yeah. Like when he drives his virtual cars and races, the way he decorates them with nothing but just garbage. Yeah. He's just, he's way sillier, but he just doesn't want bothered and tell it. And then he's like, all right, I'm turning the super cool. And he's just nice after that. Yeah.
economy. It's a mess. All right. Anyway, if you're interested in watching it, I'm going to all tape it and watch it Sunday morning. I just don't, you know, starting a race at midnight is just not ideal. Not for us here. Yeah, that's why they're starting at 1 a.m. in New York. So it's a little more ideal. No, that's even worse. No, it's even worse. That's pretty big market too. I mean, you just went through Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, New York. A lot of people. Yeah.
I mean, there's a lot more people this direction than that than there is the other direction significantly more. I saw a map that showed Los Angeles County and the number of states that don't have as many people as just Los Angeles and Los Angeles is in our big one. So do that with New York and it probably adds other states, but oh my goodness. You're right. You got plenty of people in fly over country that can watch it at a decent time and grab all the other. Yes. Just say it.
night owls or night owls. All right. Let's take a break. We come back here. I want to point out some dates for Kyle who's not here today. And it won't be next week because we have our auction. So this is kind of the last wrap up as we head into the big holiday. We'll give you some of the ugly sweater and sand shuffle and details on that on the other side of the break. Stay tuned. We'll be back with more right after this.

You're listening to fires in company streaming live at now. Decatur.com. We're back here on a. I don't know. I just started to look a little. Sort of sunny to the east a little bit.
Yeah, sun's peeking through through the top there, but a big old cloud blanket. Yeah, I know. It's going to be windy and gross, but it's 60 degrees. I'll take it. Hey, quick reminder from our good friend Kyle May, Saturday, November 30th, which will literally be here next week is the ugly sweater, fun run, a pancake breakfast there at Fleet Feet. You're dressing an ugly sweater.
and go for a jog and eat pancakes after that starts at 8 a.m. and then the December 7th is the fleet feet Santa shuffle which will lead off the Christmas parade this year about a half mile walk up 1.5 mile fun run food provided afterwards lots of raffle prizes and everyone signs up you get a santa suit to get the whole thing. It's hysterical to watch.
if the people that don't know it exists are going to freak out just like I did when you drive by and see 50 Santa's just cruising in all different directions. It's up and down downtown. Some great event. Yeah. And then on the morning of December 7th is the Holly Jolly jiggle of 5 K and Oriana. And if you sign up for both, you can be entered for a free pair of Brooks shoes or giving away.
And so those are some of the interesting events coming up. But Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, they're going to be open at 8 on Friday and Saturday that weekend. Stores open regular hours this week, 10 to 6 Monday through Friday, 10 to 4 on Saturday. And he says, things are busy. So get down there. And the gift card is always one of the easiest ways you can do it. Very easy. Very easy. I don't know how to explain to people. Like in this shoe, I wear a nine and a half. And in this shoe, I wear a nine. And in this shoe, you know,
The gift card will take care of all that. Exactly right. And also they have access if they know if, you know, if it's your husband or your wife or whatever. And they've got purchase history. Yeah, they could say, yeah, I know he had his eye on some red ones while he wears this in Brooks. And let's go ahead and just take them home with you. Absolutely. They'll help you out. So it's great. Check it out.
sure they'll have something in the auction next week as well. So you might even have a better deal. Just listen in Tuesday from six to nine. Okay. So I was thinking about from the Las Vegas race perspective of it starting at 11.54 p.m. Central time on Saturday night, right? I don't know what the 11.54 thing is. Some kind of.
mandatory break of some kind or whatever. Generally coverage will begin before that. Like if you go to, I have Xfinity, but if I go into the Xfinity app.
There'll be pre race coverage, which is where you get the Martin Brundle stuff and the walk down the grid and all that. And then there's the official. It's like, if you think about the Super Bowl, you know, you've got your lead up and you got all that and then you do the national anthem and then, you know, the game starts. So it will probably be on before 1154, not the racing, but the lead up to it. Sure, which is fun. But the Super Bowl comes on at what time? Six o'clock.
And it's on from. No, I'm at the game itself though. Yeah. Yeah, I think six o'clock usually. Yeah. And really it doesn't matter whether they're in New Orleans or they're in Los Angeles or they're in New York or wherever they are. I mean, it's always the same time. But it's only America. I mean, it's not really comparable. No, no, I'm just saying they choose to do it.
They don't do the fight thing. They don't do the prime time, you know, make you wait until eight o'clock on a Sunday night. I mean, they do it in the wheelhouse. And it's one of the very few events that we still do in America collectively together as a group at the same time. Yeah, that. And they don't. I mean, they get plenty of viewers. Yeah. And it doesn't matter what time zone they're in.
I mean, they don't do if we're on the West Coast factor in the West Coast, you know, they don't play like the Dodgers when you're trying to watch them on a Wednesday night. I mean, they still started at six o'clock. Yeah. I mean, they basically take the sweet spot of all the time zones when they all can watch. And that's where they land. But the F one, first of all, in Vegas, it has to be at night.
for it, for it to have the impact. So you're, you're already late there. Well, yeah, except this time of year, it's dark by like eight o'clock. I mean, you know, it's not, you don't have to go to midnight. Right. But you're not in the six o'clock window. You're at the eight o'clock window anyway. And then Vegas is generally, you know, fight the big fights happen, you know, after 10 o'clock, 11 o'clock, always have. So it's, and then you factor in the bigger, the lion's share of the audience is somewhere else. I'm sure that I'm sure it is their sweet spot.
even though it doesn't make any sense for me. He'd think they wouldn't be arbitrary about this. I can't imagine. They're too smart. I mean, and this is, here's why this will work. And I read this article over the weekend, which is historically I didn't have this knowledge. The other races in America that have failed
You know, they let other people organize and run the FIA decided when they made this partnership with Vegas. Yeah, there's a Vegas committee, but the FIA was going to be involved in creating and running this race. So they know what they're doing. I don't have any doubt about that now.
If you look at the stewards and decisions and people losing their jobs, they're all over the place when it comes to rules and regulations and enforcement and all of that. But the organization itself knows how to make money. Right.
Oh, yeah. And it's a recipe. It's a rent. A lot of it is just a traveling road, Joe. It's like putting the circus tent up in town and carnival. That's exactly why even leave it for anybody else to mess that up. So the question is then you've, you've got, what do you do in Chicago would be the answer? And we've talked about this before. You've got Miami. So you've got an East coast race, all the Florida sunshine you do at the time of year where everybody, you know, can go take
you know, spring break and beaches. And that is a very much a daytime thing, even though there's a lot of nightlife in Miami. Sure. You've got taxes, which is, you know, kind of your salt of the earth, you know, out in the middle of nowhere, been there for a long time. A good track. Yep. And affordable. And they seem to give you a more bang for your buck than anywhere else here for F1.
Yeah, it's our, it's our county fair. Yeah, but it's still same product. You know, I mean, it'd be like taking Leanne rhymes, dropping her in every one of these cities, but different ticket prices and different access. So Vegas then is not all that far away from where you already are in Texas and it's in the middle of the night. So there is there one more that would accommodate kind of the audience we're talking about that would start at a decent time here in America because they still think
Yes, Vegas is a spectacle that's large enough for a worldwide audience to get a kick out, just like we get a kick out of others. But if you truly want to grow the sport in America, starting a race at midnight for everybody isn't going to grow the American audience. No, the visuals will and we buy into the alert. But I think that's obvious. I think that's why Chicago is going to be the next one there. Yeah.
It's right in the middle of America, big city in what is considered regular old Midwest America. You put it right at dinner time or middle of the afternoon. It's totally fine. Chicago is not dependent on the sun like Miami is or the glow like it's just regular. They've got their own magnificent miles. But that NASCAR race, you know, was fun, but a lot of people didn't like it. And Chicago is in such financial trouble right now with the schools and everything else.
I don't see how you know more money way more money like way way more money like way way way more money it seems obvious.
Yeah, but it also takes way, way, way more money to put it on. Right. And where are you taking a million and bring home a billion? But where are you? You're telling me that it's a few million dollars for a city to bring in to bring in over a billion versus a few million to bring in a few a lot more million. I bet it is way more than a few million. The value proposition of risk versus reward on a NASCAR race where the pile is relatively limited.
to what F.A. I mean, they brought in a billion, maybe it was almost two billion and one weekend in Las Vegas. Yeah. Well, okay. So even if you put a hundred million in, you still make nine hundred million dollars. Like here, I don't think that they're the same prop. I don't think that the Vegas experience is set up. Just sure. A number of hotels. Scale it down. But I mean, for sure, scale it. But I mean, it's still going to be massive. Yeah. If it happens there.
Okay. Easy to travel, international. I'm not arguing against it. I'm just saying Chicago is just not in a situation right now to do a lot. Well, somebody else can come in and promote it and build it and do the infrastructure. I think it could be done pretty handling. We'll see. I would like that. I would too. It's the traveling to Las Vegas or Miami, neither one, which seemed like I would really enjoy myself. I'm just
Not the night life guy. Austin, Texas is called my name. When we get back on the other side of the break, we'll check in with Dale Coley next hour and get a preview of pharmacy facts with friends. We'll also check in with Mark Topper and Tupper on sports a little later today.
