- Stay Active: Instead of lingering at the dinner table, get up and move around or take a walk. This helps in managing calorie intake.
- Enjoy in Moderation: It’s important to enjoy festive food but balance it with moderation to prevent overeating.
Mental Aspects of Health and Fitness
- The conversation also veered into the psychological aspect of health, discussing how stress can lead to unhealthy eating patterns. Listeners were encouraged to view health not just physically but holistically.
- Encouraging New Members: Tips on how gyms can provide an inclusive environment for new members who may feel intimidated after the holiday rush.
Call to Action
Listeners are reminded of the importance of making a positive lifestyle change rather than simply pursuing New Year's resolutions. The discussion highlighted how working out and eating healthily need to be regular habits rather than seasonal activities:
- Engagement with Experts: Connecting with health professionals for personalized fitness and nutrition advice is encouraged.
Conclusion
Angela’s presence and the lively discussions brought attention to the critical issues of health management during social gatherings, emphasizing community support, proactive health measures, and the benefits of nurturing healthy habits. Good morning and welcome. We're back here on a Friday. It looks a little brighter now than it did before. Kind of gray out there. But yesterday definitely had that winter sky feeling. It was like 54 degrees and I was driving home and I'm like, maybe it just feels colder than 54. Add that sort of thing in the air that felt a little like winter. It was damp and windy. And you didn't get any sun rays. So it just was. Yeah, but there's still sunny. I mean, it is had that it had a winter gray look to it. So and the mist.
Yeah, I was driving to work yesterday and I was like, um, am I an hour early? The time did change. It's supposed to be a little bit lighter now. And it was as dark as it was before the time change. I was like, Oh, welcome to hard. We do at any given time during a year as much as half of our show in the dark. So I like it though. I like being up and added early, even though I'm not an early morning person by nature. I don't think your nature ever changes.
You get used to getting up at a certain time, but it's not what I would prefer to do, which is crazy to do this for 30 years and not be a morning person. I think I's changed.
I have two because I was I want to 10 30 was my number. I sleep till 10 30. Yeah, every day I didn't have anywhere. I had to be 30 and I got college. I mean, I just shifted. I mean, that's eight 30 in West Coast. So I can sleep in and it's doing now. Now I'm it's Saturday morning. I'm up at five o'clock doing stuff. Yeah, I'm not up at five o'clock on Saturday morning.
I can't sleep late. I mean, your body does change. I'm just saying, I think you are one way or another kind of by nature. I'd rather stay up late than get up early if I could just wave a magic wand. Now, maybe I'm a conundrum because I was a paperboy for 10 years and I got up way early. So maybe I was programmed to be
early and then went back to what I would actually was. So maybe I'm on board with your theory. Yeah, I just think it's maybe I was fake and be honest. The younger you are, the easier it is to sleep. When I do think you need less sleep, the older you get, you tend to get up early. I'm just think, I think you're just hardwired one way or the other. In some cases, not everybody. There's always the odd ball. I didn't like getting up early and I didn't like going to bed late. So I guess you could call me an afternoon person.
That's why you don't use any of the internet. You don't want to stay up to one either. Because you can only walk down to that phone box in the daylight. That's right. All right. Angela from the YMCA in studios. We got a couple of weeks now till the official holiday season goes into full effect. Although people will do earlier things you're doing earlier. Right. Not everybody waits until Thanksgiving to start all this.
But you do have a sentence conversation with Lindsay the other day and she's like, Oh God, you know, all this is coming. It's really hard to sort of stay disciplined or, you know, watch your diet or whatever. What can, you know, without being silly because 99.9% people aren't you. So, you know, what do you do going into what you know is going to be office parties and client parties and
family parties and you get into Thanksgiving and then you roll right into Christmas and people are bringing popcorn tins and fudge. And everywhere you look, there's temptation. Yeah, that's hard. We don't have a lot of those at the why. We don't have popcorn parties and tins full of fudge. Thank goodness. But
if we're going to go to Thanksgiving, this is some of the things that I do. I try to limit the amount of things that I put on my plate. So I'm not putting like a ton of mashed potatoes and a ton of this. Just a little bit of this and a little bit of that focus on serving size and one plate. I generally don't go back for seconds. And one of the things that it's just not
I don't like it. I don't like sitting at a kitchen table and talking. I just don't. It's uncomfortable. It's like the worst chairs in the world. So what I would say is when you're done eating, get up. Because if you don't, you're going to sit there and go, well, maybe I'll finish this on my plate or I'm going to get up and move. And maybe get a good walk in or a good something in before you have your giant feast. And it's also OK.
enjoy yourself. Because you know, if you don't enjoy the things in life, what's the purpose of getting healthier to live longer? A little bit too short. So yes, we all know that Thanksgiving and the holidays are going to be a little bit different. But I think the portion control
and everything in moderation is. It's a perfect storm though because you get to the end of November and your weather is going to get harder to get outside. And then you go right into Christmas and then you roll into New Year's and people are like offices are closed. There's a lot of downtime.
It's the winner. You don't want to go outside. You're just doing nothing. But it is. And I think it was all created just so you could sell gym memberships in January. So I was going to say you can come in and see me and we can have a good time taking classes now. It was created for that or gyms were spotted to go, Hey, look at this huge thing. This rolling everybody and like, we'll just do January and we'll create New Year's resolutions. Yeah.
New Year's resolutions, to me, you just make a lifestyle change.
Now, when I was a regular gym attendee, I hated going to the gym in January and February 14. That's what I would always say. Right. Now, I mean, I'm not knocking. If you want to, I mean, I hope everybody finds a path to make themselves better, you know, but it would just like the entire thing would change for a month with all of these people and not being cynical, but you knew that like 80% of them wouldn't be around in March, but it was just like, yeah, which is unfortunate. So that's also human nature. Yeah, it is.
I feel like I need to do better at connecting with those people to see if we can keep them. Well, there you go. There's your new year's resolution. That can be my new year's resolution. What does the membership cost these days for an individual or a family? This is why you can't connect with them. If you can't. Well, I tried this because that that is a lot of stuff. For I'm going to misspeak, but let me just pull up your website. I'll fact check. Yeah.
I want to say forty five for an adult. OK, let's let's look it up here. We've got we've got the Internet. It is. Yes. I try not to step into.
We don't need you charging anybody too much or giving a discount. You can't offer that. That's right. All right. I've got this. I got Brian's got it. I'm a professional. I've got your bet. He has the Internet is what he means. I just I'm just like, call me Goose. I got my cheat sheet by my computer. That's it. Here's what it says. Our month or memberships are on a month to month basis and there's no yearly contract to sign. That's a great thing. That is great. You know, sometimes I think a contract will keep you motivated in some ways.
But also, I think it turns people off because people aren't going to commit to a full year. Pro tip on that is if you need that. Hey, I've got I've got six months. I need to use it. You can just go ahead and prepay it. And then once you pay for it, then you're going to. Yeah, absolutely. So youth and high school, right? That would be age 13 to 17. The monthly fee is $19.50.
cannot beat that. That's so fair. College age, that would be 18 to 23, although I would suggest you college kids are getting older than that. With a student ID, it's $36.50 a month. So fair, a dollar-ish a day. Adult general age, 18 to 64, it's kind of sad to see I don't get a discount these days. Monthly fee of $52. There it is. 50 to 50, excuse me. So fair. When you think about
the other things you're paying for. The access you get to this $52.50 is unbelievable. Yeah, all the services and amenities and just the time. So that's unlimited time for that month, basically. Now, the adult good heart. Now, does that mean this includes your membership and the good heart? Correct. OK, so that's $84.50. I do know the answer to that question. If you want to have your own locker that's reserved for you, have your own smaller
area of showers and privacy and and just a place where there's a TV on you want to cool down you know like there's a little lounge area now if you need to be playing back up and go go to work or if you're just going to get in and out yeah that's a great deal it's eighty four dollars and fifty cents I would highly recommend that now there are people that use every penny of that eighty four dollars and fifty cents versus minutes spent in the art locker
And also you. Is it true? You do get fined 2750 every time you'd Captain Morgan and no, no, it's almost the opposite. It's almost like you get a thousand free a month. The old Captain. It's been addressed. For decades, probably. You're not going to be in our locker room to address that. That's an age thing. It is.
Yeah, I would say, yeah. Yes. OK, let's keep moving on here with the prices. Senior general, that would be anybody 65 plus. And there's a lot of active people. I got to give it. You know, I'm 58 years old now. And I am actually Mike Tyson day. So I'll be watching from the exact perspective tonight, right? OK.
But there are so many people, you know, 65 plus that just blow me away with how in shape they are and it's just not what it used to be. And it doesn't have to be for you either. Don't talk yourself into that thing of like, I'm getting older, so this is just natural.
You can, how do you live the next 20 years of your life matters? I mean, you might live in other 25 years anyway, but is that going to be a healthy way of living or are you going to live, you know, a lot of, you can control some of that. So the senior general, $44.50 a month. Senior Goodheart, you get a little bit of a discount, $75.50. And then the family general monthly fee, that's up to two adults residing in the same household and their dependent children up to the age of 23, right?
seven or I'm sorry, seventy six dollars a month. What does that mean? That's two parents and two kids. Oh, well, it's two adults and then two girls, two kids. No, and it doesn't have to be two kids. Just had just any kid under the age of twenty three. And a maximum of two adults. Seriously? Yeah.
Now that the 18 plus have to be a full-time college. Yeah. They will expect you to show. Yeah. And you do the family. Good heart thing. 120 bucks a month. Senior couple. You can join for 60 or 62 dollars. I can't memorize all this. There's a lot going on. Yes. So you're basically getting by one. Get one for half if you're a senior couple. So you're yeah. These are totally fair. Not even no smoke. It's almost like I do marketing for the one I see.
We need to say this price is far more frequently because those are very good prices. I'm doing that because this is the time of year where people start to think about this. This is maybe a great idea for a Christmas gift. And I like the couple idea because you're not saying to your spouse or your loved one, hey, you need this. You're saying, look what I got to get you this together. Look what I got at us. Yep. I am.
marketing master and broadcast professional. Yes. Honey, you don't need to go to the gym. But I love for you to come with me. Do you want to go to a movie and some quality time together at the gym? Let's go to the movie. We can drop the kids off to play in the gym. They have open gym at this time. I mean, there's just a lot of things you can do with your family. Things in 2025 to some basketball clinics for our young youngsters. You're talking about that. Yeah, so I'm excited. Corinthians going to lead that and
that's his passion. Now, here's here's a membership perk with the good heart that doesn't appeal to me at all, but it does to other people because in the good heart, you've got a sauna steam room, whirlpool tub. You couldn't drag me in there with a hazmat. Just me. I mean, it is so popular. Right. Yeah. For some people, that's a big. Yeah. Those are great prices. Yes, they are. Really fair. And all of our classes
are free with your membership. You know, so that's nice. A lot of places have up charges charges for the room where the smaller classes are take place for the for like smaller. You mean like the training studio? The cost fit kind of stuff or not. I guess it's really not even. So, yeah, the training studio is is up charge. That's where I'm sure we said all the classes. But all of your like group fitness classes. Everything else. I mean, from Zumba or whatever it might be. And that's all or whatever. And yoga.
I remember when I was a kid, Lynn Swan was a wider receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It took ballet and everybody, because that was a time, as you can imagine, where we were not quite as enlightened as we are, particularly as men. I take that back. I still see a lot of that crap today.
Now yoga is one of the biggest things used by NFL athletes across the board because of pliability. And who told you pliability was important. The greatest quarterback to ever play the game. How did you play that long pliability? Yeah, flexibility is a big deal. And I would say our yoga class, especially the one on Monday. I really enjoy yoga. And I didn't think I would. Percentage wise has the most men in it. Yeah.
You know, sometimes it's just changing the approach, the name, the way who endorses it or whatever. And you know, Lin Swan was, you're doing Fufu ballerina at that time. And now it's like,
Oh, you're getting flexible and adding. And like now you can talk yourself into the there's cover for this now. You can go take just way ahead of the game. Right. Way ahead. And now it's just a if you don't do it, you're behind. And he was a human highlight with those catches. As you see, compared to the athletes of the time, today, there are a lot of receivers in the NFL that do that stuff. You go, how in the world did they do that?
You go back to 1978, 79, 80. There were not a lot of receivers in. I felt doing what Lynn Swan was doing. No, those, those acrobatic catches. You go out of the body, contorting and I see it every week and they measure it like they take you to a place in Indiana and they poke and prod and see, can you twist? Can you jump? Can you? I mean, they measure it all.
All right. There you go. And there are also by why cares scholarship program for people to, you know, if there are other possibilities for your child watch. There's a legitimate question. If I want to buy a membership as a gift and I go up to the counter and I signed somebody up. I'm sure I put their name down or whatever. Do I walk away with the certificate? Yes. So I have something to physically give them. Yes. OK. Yeah. Gift card. Yep. Oh, it's like a card. Yep. You can do a gift card. OK. Now let me talk to the bosses out there.
Because sometimes bosses, even good bosses, get buried in their own thing. They've got to do to make their companies successful, that they sometimes lose track of the overview. Because there's corporate memberships that are available. And here's why this is smart. Because healthy, involved, plugged in, feeling better, employees are way more productive for you as a boss, a company, a CEO, small
insurance office, whatever it might be. Trust me. I mean, I can attest to this. I am never better at my job than when I am at the top level that I can be fitness wise. It's just your mind works better. Everything works better. It is wide insurance companies, if you have personal coverage, will sometimes just write you a check if you'll go to the doctor, if you'll sign up and go to the gym and stuff because
at the end of the day, you're better at all the things. You're less likely to be sick. You're less likely to injure yourself. You're less likely to be unfocused and make mistakes. And so now coming back to work when you're at your best in your in your best. Yeah. I mean, you just better. So here's the thing. This is individualized. So, you know, you can call is a Deborah Deborah. Yeah. Corrine and you can. What a great Christmas gift for your office, right?
We're going to open up a company account. Absolutely. Yes. And employees can go work out. That would be Deborah Clark. Yeah. Yes. Give her a call. I mean, that's a great idea. I mean, you know, it's great to get popcorn tens. Those are fun. And you should do that too. But what about, you know, hey, next year, one of the perks because we appreciate you so much. We're going to give you this available.
Yeah. And it does, it scratches all the, Hey, here's a cool gift. It's a smart one to do. Yeah. It has all of the things. It's a very good gift and it does. Yeah. That's really neat perk for your job. Yep. There's also military memberships. Yes. There's also nationwide membership, right? Because that means I can go to a Y wherever I go to where there's a Y. Yes. So I'm on vacation, but 2700 YMCA and 10,000 communities across the nation.
Now, is that enough charge? No, that's just part of your membership. So take your wide membership card and a photo ID and wherever you are in the United States, you can work out it any other way. I love that. Yeah, that is a big deal. It is. OK, there you go. Wow. It's called free advertising. I want to appreciate that. Well, I think it's
The same way it's smart for a company to do that for their employees. The same way it's smart for a community to try to do that for all the people that live in a community because we want to bring health care costs down and insurance rates down and productivity up and people getting employed and taking care of their lives and workforce development and every other thing. This makes sense.
You need to find somebody with a crop duster plane and a little banner and fly. Did you know you can go the Y for a dollar? Just blast that every time. That's right. That's such a good deal. All right. So there you go. As you're getting ready to do your shopping, this is an easy one. And you can do it. You know, it's like gift cards. Gift cards used to be considered by some people as tacky.
You didn't put a lot of thought into getting, you know, that's not a personal gift. I'm like, no, I'd rather pick my own stuff out, give car all day long. But people's thoughts have changed about this. And now saying, hey, here's a membership. Isn't degrading somebody. You're saying, oh, you need to lose weight. It's going, I care to invest in you having a healthier, more productive. Physically and mentally. Investing in you. Yes. Just saying.
Now I have a gift card hack to guys. It's if you don't want to if you're nervous and you think it's going to come off as impersonal.
pick something out in general, you don't have to get it exactly right. Say, hey, here's a gift card to fleet feet, for example, for a pair of shoes. I thought of you. I don't know what color or size. But here's enough to get you those shoes or here. And not only I don't know what size and what brand. Yeah. Because there's any of it. So, but I thought of a thing I wanted to get for you, but I don't want to get it wrong. I want you to be able to get exactly what you want. So you can have the idea. I don't know about your arches. Right. Yeah. So I would suggest you can combine those two things.
Because one of the most important things you can do when you start at the YMCA with your new membership is you have to have a good foundation. And I know there are people that balk at saying $150 for parent tennis shoes, but I'm telling you, they make a huge difference. So if you're walking the track, you know, the indoor track, by the way, in the winter where you have all the ability and you walk three miles
How you feel at the end of that will determine if you're ready to go back the next day or the day after and do it again. And the more pain you have, whether it's in the bottom of your feet or in your arches or in your calves or in your knees, lower back can be dramatically impacted by starting with the right foundation.
gift card to fleet feet to go do that. They do the 3D scan and the measurement. By the way, the Y will do that with your body too. Yes, I was just. We'll get into that second. But so and you tell them what it is. Are you going to be running? Are you going to be lifting weights? Are you going to be doing aerobic? So you're going to be and they will give you the perfect foundation to start with. Yep.
And I just look, I love Kyle and I would tell you this whether Kyle was, you know, part of the show or not. I didn't know that I went most of my life. And the wrong side. And the wrong side shoes, because I thought it was universal, like Nike, Adidas, Hoka, they're all the same. They're all very different. And now I know if I order pair ons, I go to Fleet. I know what I wear in that brand. I know what I wear in this brand over here. And I couldn't understand why, you know, like, well, no, this is my shoe size. I've been told that my whole life. Yeah.
Not true. Most common thing heard at fleet feet. I understand the raw size is very similar for weeks now. So a gift card to a membership, a gift card to fleet feet, and you are literally giving the gift of health. And there's nothing not thoughtful about that. No, it's not it all the way through. Absolutely.
And then when you go get a body analysis, and once again, this isn't to shame you, this is to show you tangible results. I mean, what keeps you going is that you can see that you're making a difference and things are changing. It won't be fast enough, you know, because people want instantaneous, you know, satisfaction today. And that's not how you get healthy in the long haul. The long haul is incremental.
But you go and you stand on this thing and it will measure your body fat. It will measure your muscle mass. And it takes like five minutes. It takes less than that to get it done. And then I like to take the time to actually discuss what all the numbers mean. So it's a consultation. It's not just
get on this assessment scale and then send you on your way. But you have tangible goals, then. It isn't sort of hit and miss. They're not selling something on QVC. It's like, OK, here's what I do for these areas. And we talk about real estate plans. Yes. And not only physical work, but nutrition as well. All right. We've got to take a break for bottom of the hour stories and news. We're going to act show and tell with Angela from the YMCA. We'll be back with more right after this. This is RJ Grace with your stories.
Now, an Illinois program aimed at eliminating medical debt has helped more than 50,000 people erase $72 million of debt. According to the governor's office, this pilot program received $10 million in this year's state budget to partner with the nonprofit Undo Medical Debt. That organization buys medical debt for pennies on the dollar, eliminating debt for individuals. The governor's office says the goal is to eliminate a billion dollars worth of debt this fiscal year.

Good morning and welcome back. It is literally the last show of the week for us here on this Friday. Angela from the YMCA is in. I'm Brian Byers. That's Nick Smith. Happy to be here with each and every week. Good morning. We have a full week next week and a little short and week the week after. We'll be here Monday through Wednesday and then we'll be gone for the Thanksgiving holidays. Hope everyone out there's got great plans and enjoy your time and get it.
the compress a little bit and get into the holiday spirit. And don't feel guilty about, you know, eating some good food. Just try to do it in some moderation. Well said. Yes. Thank you. You're quite color blocked this morning. Yes, I am. It's sweater time for me. I know I can tell you're a big fan of the sweaters. I love sweaters. All right. So show and tell. I'm going to start because it's not depressing. It's historical, but it's I don't want to end on a
I told you, were we just talking in the last couple of weeks about my grandfather's funeral, my dad's dad's funeral and remembering the gun salute, you know, military funeral. So I literally brought this is the flag. And if you look at this, this was from 1973. Oh, wow.
specifically July 24th, 1973. Now I had to look that up. I don't have that. I was seven years old. So my grandfather, my dad's dad was 48 years old when he died. Oh, man. Wow.
But I think about that, and he seemed so old to me as a seven-year-old, but then I can't even fathom how young my dad was at that time. Do you know what I mean? And going through it and how when you're a little kid, you look at adults, you don't see adults in their 20s and go, oh, they're just kids. You see parents. So it took me down some memory lane, but he's buried in Folsomville Cemetery. He was a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II.
And so there was a military funeral and that flag was handed to my grandmother, Velma, who passed away seven years later in 1980 of cancer. But I don't know that I've ever put any of this in context, just in timeline. And it felt like she was around for a long time after he passed away. But when you're a kid, seven years is a long time. But when you sit here and reflect back on it, it's like, God, it's life's so short. And so, you know,
And then I, you know, my dad, obviously, you know, when his dad died very young, I think that that weighed on him about, you know, would he be around and he clearly lived in, you know, to a 70s. But it's just crazy how you look back. And I can remember this.
I think that the tombstone was changed when my grandmother died because there's two pictures, but you know, it had the United States Army World War II on it. And that flag, I can see it in my head at the age of seven years old, them doing that folding thing they do with the flag and presenting it to my grandpa. And now it's at a triangle black case that you can see through probably about 14, 16 inches wide.
and probably about nine inches trick-call is trying to go to hobby lobby those are standard so how is it how is it in your possession was it in your dad's and yours yeah uh... uh... uh... there was uh... i think what happened uh... after that past is the uh... his medals that i told you congressman davis helped him get back my grandfather's medals from war war two including purple heart
were given to my brother. And then I took the flag. So was that on display at your dad? When you're I do you remember? No, in fact, I'm almost a thousand percent positive that a very long time ago. My aunt, my dad's sister had it and gave it to me. And then I remember asking if dad wanted it because I just it was in a bag and you know, it's like. And so it's kind of full circle. Oh, cool.
The one thing about 58, you're not real sure about all those memory times. I don't think about sad, you know, I wasn't old enough to process it. You know, I mean, you could in a very basic way, but it is just strange, you know, how that memory of that funeral is so vivid to me when you go back. And if you say July of of 73, I don't know, it wasn't even seven years old yet. I was six. You know, I wouldn't be seven until October.
So, and then it's just, it's kind of fun, actually, because you sit there and you think that my dad would have been a kid. Right. Right. That's quite young, though, for quite young. He had a stroke young, and then I think lived with that for a long time. And like I said, I don't have, you know, I had several grandparents that died fairly early, you know, when I was young. And then clearly, 1980, you know, you're almost to high school. And, you know, you think about that's what's not, right?
seven years later. Yeah, she was young too. She was. Your life was significantly different. You know, your seven years was so different. You can seven years go by. Seven of the same years. But when you're going by 13 to 20, that's a whole new world. It's the one thing age gives you. And I'm sure it continues. The older you get is this weird perspective on time that you probably shouldn't have when you're young.
Yeah, I feel like it. Yeah. Don't you feel that? Yeah, I can remember, you know, being a teenager and never even fathoming what it would be like to be this age. Like, no, I couldn't even think about being this age. It was ancient. That's why I'm rooting for my taste.
I don't even know what YouTube is, but I'll knock you out on it. That's exactly right. That's neat. I'm going to bring it in and I'm going to keep it here in the studio. It's just a reminder.
that everybody, you know, thinks that everything is the end of the world and every four years, everything. And we're going to have conversations about all that stuff. But, you know, I go back to this flag, you know, in 1973, you know, meaning that thing that it still means to me today. And he got through World War II, you know, and did the march up Italy, you know, and a Purple Heart and was awarded medals and a global catastrophe, you know, the United States.
ensured that, uh, well, the people in, in, in France are still speaking French and not German. Uh, and so we get through things. And so, uh, I'm going to put it in here just for that. That's great. And you probably have thought of this and you probably already know this, but that flag will be everybody's flag when they come in and that'll be my grandpa or I think, yeah, yeah. And it's like, and what it means universally is pretty cool that we all can kind of share that or.
And it's a physical piece of that memory I had as a six and a half year old kid. That one's physically yours, but it has the same value to all of us. You bet. Really cool. All right. Thanks for sharing that. You're welcome. Angela and you had a different bag. Well, this is one of my favorite bags actually. I can just share the bag. It's black with purple polka. It's from the gallery that my parents like to shop at when they're in Tucson or when they're in Green Valley, but it is in Tucson. But yeah, anyway, so yeah.
I must have had some telepathy of what we were going to talk about for the first half hour because I brought two books, the exact same books, just different editions. I like that. It's my sports nutrition guide. Any book with any book with post it notes. This is my nutrition Bible. So I had the pleasure of seeing her speak in Chicago. She this is Nancy Clark.
And in September of 2000, I got to see her speak in Chicago. And it was wonderful. And she signed my book. It was for certification. I got some credit for it. And I loved her. So I was like, and I had my book. And I was like, do you mind if you? And she was like, no problem at all. Where do I know her from? Like, I just Googled in her picture is familiar to me.
she's she's kind of like the food coach nutrition. Yeah, she she probably has done a lot of work with a lot of athletes. Well, I know somewhere along the way, I've run into her picture. I mean, I see you looks familiar. She's amazing.
you know, I've always said it's calories in versus calories out. That is the basic principle. And you know, and she's like, yes, that is the basic principle. Obviously, there are better calories than others. It's just, you know, it's just easy stuff that we all can learn. And she uses layman's terms. And then she came out with
another edition and she has since come out with even another edition. Her sixth edition. Well, you know, we learn. So yeah, our seventh. So I'm like, Oh, I probably should get that one too. And I mean, I have read these suckers front to back several times or I'll go in and I'm like, what is that again? And then, yeah, and I've got my little cheat sheets in here and she's just she it's not just athletes. This is for anybody.
even if you're just new to nutrition or you're just inundated with all these ads saying, Oh, you need to take this supplement and this thing and you need to do these greens and she will tell you all about that. So how do the additions change? Does she ever go? We were wrong on that. Here's the new thing or.
just update. Yeah, I don't know if wrong is the word, but things that they learned something new and this is actually just better. Yeah. That's why I met. Yeah. Yeah. Here's why this is important. And I'm a book person. I love to read and I like experts in their field. I was reading a story about a woman from Illinois who went on a Zen pick after giving birth. You just couldn't get rid of the baby weight.
And then it got priced out of her affordability. And now she's gained three times the way back that she wanted to lose by doing this. And I'm not knocking anybody that is using this to help them in their journey. But it won't do it alone. And as soon as you stop, if you haven't changed what you're doing, it's coming back. And that's been the thing I think with this
a cultural thing of just like we can just buy a solution without putting any of the effort into it. And the effort isn't always just physical effort. The effort is sometimes mental effort of understanding how the body works, calories in, calories out. And I find this kind of advice because I don't know it. I mean, I have ideas, but as to Nick's question about things change, they tell you, you know, this is good, not good, good. But you're going to have to, if you want lifelong
keeping the pounds off your this the nutrition part of it is at least 50% equal to the physical at least and and she gives great recipes in the back that have normal ingredients that you don't need to go to like seven stores to get. And and stuff that we eat all the time that you can make healthier. Nothing crazy. And I just
She has she's kind of been a mentor that I don't really see, but she is just like, OK, I have a question. Oh, go to this. Nancy Clark, Nancy Clark Sports Nutrition Guidebook. I think it's probably pretty helpful to subscribe to maybe one person's complete thought because you can hear things like literally on the within five seconds you go.
type in like proteins and somebody will go maximize your protein. Somebody say lay off. Yes. Good cards. You go to her website and she's got a drop down menu on the books and literally you can get food guide for marathoners. You can get food guides for cyclists. You can get food guide for women's soccer for new runners. I mean, it's very specific to like what it is that you want to do. And she has blogs that I never once in a while I'll get on if I have like, Oh, what is she saying about that?
I just, yeah. If I'm like, what? I just need to know what she thinks because I know she's right. You know what's very old school? You can go to her website and literally the phone number is right at the top of the page. You can give her a check. I mean, you should just call her. Just call her. Tell her to send us this link. Say, hey, I was just talking about you for four hours on a radio show.
Oh, Lord. And I literally have thought I'm going to buy the next the latest edition. And I think maybe it's the sixth edition. Maybe the six of the seven. I might be too behind. She's probably at seven now because it looks like that she hadn't written anything since 21 in this spot. But if there's a new one, there are definitely is a new one. And I don't have it. All right. So she's worked with the Boston Celtics, Boston College. She was a team nutritionist for the Boston Red Sox baseball team. So she knows her stuff. Yeah.
obviously based in New England. Yes. Nearly a million books as of this. I'm sure she's probably topped it. Yeah. That's really neat. All right. Something Angela. And there's another gift idea. Absolutely. The shoes, the membership, the book, the book. It will keep you engaged. It's a good read. It's not just vomiting facts, right? It's
showing you how you can use it every day. Exactly. I mean, I'd rather people spoof facts. We tried to do that. I mean, you know, I mean, you know, every day that water hose all day long. All right, let's do this. We got to take a break. We'll come back and we'll find out what Nick has to do with show and tell here on the Friday edition of buyers and company with Angela from the YMCA. Stay tuned.

We do have sunshine on a cloudy day. Look at that. Yeah, we do. On cue. Yeah. All you do is play the temptations. Right. I'm actually going to subscribe to that idea that if I ever need it to happen, I'm just going to. You have the power to bring a son out. Let's see if I can do it. All right. What do you got for show and tell today? Well, I brought a toy or a collectible a vinyl figure last week. And I was like, why don't I just do the same thing? I got a newer one.
20 years ago, a very iconic figure was created called the Dunny. And it's kind of like a rabbit looking character and a company was launched behind it called Kid Robot. And the idea was that we could take this one toy, this one feature, and it could have infinite color palettes. We could have artists do it. We could put anything we want on this one thing and just easily replicate it. Well, it's the 20th year anniversary, and it's creators
one of my favorite artists ever, Tristan Eaton. So for this year, they've been celebrating by releasing different colors of it. It's called the Danny D you in and why. You know what that is in Australia? Yeah. OK. But but it is instead of a bunny. It's a Danny. So kid robots were a toilet. It's a done. Yeah, I watch the Danny. And so I got this this colorway that he is this version of the Danny has been sculpted.
And it sort of celebrates his 20 years of his career. And then the colors that he chose for the different colorways are the spray cans that he uses. So this one happens to be a limited edition of 300. And it is unbelievable gold. If you I mean, it is the shiniest gold member would lose his mind over how gold this thing is.
The colorway, I believe, is called. Let me tell the exact name. It's just the anniversary. It is the anniversary. Yeah. And this one is called Tristan Eaton, Tristan Eaton, Montana Gold. And it is just as vibrant as anything. And it tells a story. It has all of the little things carved into it that give a timeline, almost his autobiography and a sculpture that runs in parallel with the
with the character. So I thought that we kind of need now. Is this stuff displayed in the next Smith household or is it like tucked away in a closet? I mean, what do you do? Yeah. Yeah. There's no way you have enough room. There's no way up again. It's like in a book. It's like in a box book. Yeah, the box. It's the box. It's like your book that you had the hard clamshell. Yeah. Yeah. And then there's plastic around it. And then because there's multiple pieces, one of them is wrapped in some sort of like
I guess soft cloth bag. Now, is that so can you take it out or is it currently? Do to the value. Keep the box. Usually the artists will. They will sign the box and not the figure usually. Yeah. So you keep the box. People are known for display and just take care of them.
And then under the foot is I like that. I hate when stuff's Fort Knox. You know, like, yeah, I take mine out generally. Like I never understood like those people who hold on to Star Wars toys when they were kids, you know, in the packaging and never open it. Yeah. I do have some things like that that I do like. I don't know why it's just a choice, but yeah, but you got adults. It's one thing. I was a kid like, no, let's store that because it'll be worth money in 40 years. Right.
Now I like this stuff. I think it's a lot of fun. It's he's an artist. I really care about and does things the right way. There you go. A lot of fun. All right. They've got Kid Robot by the way.com is the website. If you want to go check out. Yeah. And they've got like all kinds of price points. I mean, you could get involved in this at a lot of level. Yeah, they have little donies. I mean, you can buy like simple stuff. Like, Oh, I like red. I like green. They just did one for strike for the party.
Well, Portify, yeah. Interesting, I did not know that. I'm watching territory on Netflix, so I'm picking up all kinds of all sorts of things. Yeah, I also take Bushwees. Like, hey, mom, I need to go to the Danny. Well, pull over, we'll take a Bushwee. Yeah. I only know this because I watch an Australian kids' part too. OK.
By the way, we don't need to talk about this yet. We can do it on Monday, but episode one of Alex Cross, a man. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Am I six agent that's tracking him down was double O seven. Yes. The predecessor to James Bond in the last movie is so good in that. The soundtracks amazing. It starts off with an unbelievable. I mean, like you want to hook somebody in the very first scene of something. This show does that as well as I've ever seen anything do it. Awesome. It's great. And you didn't watch Alex yet. We're saving it
Is some gonna be pieced together like once once a week or but and I don't know to this I didn't look to see one of them at eight and one of them at five Yes, I think the jackals complete I think the jackal you can watch the day of the jackal all five now Yeah, and the other from Amazon will be released on a weekly base
But there are more than one because I usually drop two and then they give you one a week after that. And that gives you, hey, here it gives you a buy-in. Yes, it gives you like one minute of a scene that tells you, here's why the guy is the way that he is. Both based on best selling books, but that is the day of the Jackal. It's on Peacock. Nice. And the cross. Alex Cross really feels like they're doing the books justice for the first time. Those Morgan Freeman movies back in the day were pretty good, right?
kiss. What was it? Kiss the girls and I'm a spider. You know, yeah, electric company. Yes, he was. Believe that. Electric company. What he does. I watched him on the electric as a kid. Absolutely. This guy Aldous Hodges plays him is physically imposing and the soundtrack is great. And within like three minutes of the show, they don't blow the doors off, but they go,
This is how this guy conducts himself. I'm in they just show you that I mean, I loved it I will give you something that will not give away anything other than this opens with with this assassin shooting somebody from 3.6 miles away nice
back. He takes a couple of practice shots at the building and no one can hear it because it's so far away. All the security everything is just underneath it while he's zoning in. I love that. It's good. It's really, really good. All right. We have our past playoff football action tomorrow. Yes. What are you predicting for the moral force? I've chosen. Well, they're at home, so I'm feeling pretty good. Are they blue and yellow? Are they blue and maize? Is it just gold or gold? Yeah.
Okay. Yeah, those jackets. Don't get it wrong. Get, you know, get booed out of out of the village. Those jackets are gold. They're gold. Yeah. That's why they're not a shiny gold. They're like a mad. Very new. Yeah. Tell like a Wolverine fan. Love your blue and yellow jacket. They will. No, no. Oh, no. I'll get it right. It's a big gold. All right. So are you expecting a trip to state?
I mean, is that the expectation? Yeah, that is always the expectation. You know, when you're doing a great program, there's nothing better than having that high of expectations. I know it can be demanding and you can feel like maybe a really good season feels like a failure. But man, there's nothing better than having such quality that your expectation is that.
Yeah, I think that is their expectation every year. And it's amazing to me that you can do that in a high school in central Illinois. You can't do that in Chicago with an NFL franchise. Oh, Tony, we do not have enough time in the week for that threshold to get above four points.
Can we get just seven sacks this week? Big improvement. All right. So that game will be on W D Z tomorrow. You also, by the way, you can listen to that on the app. An indicator app. You pull it up and right at the top, you can pick the station you want to stream. So if you're traveling or whatever.
And that literally on Saturday will be one forty five pregame Quincy Notre Dame will be at Maro Forsyth and then the game immediately following and then right after that Mount Zion is on the road at Breeze Central and that pregame will start at four forty five p.m.
There's not a couple double overtime crazy stuff with more all right. We should be able to do the entirety for both games. But at the worst case scenario, we might, you know, join in progress just a little bit into the so great to have two teams that you can follow at this time of the year or more. Sometimes we have more for everybody, right? Yeah. I root for the local teams for sure. Look, I don't have, first of all, I graduate from Eisenhower.
We don't have those expectations. We have to find somebody to, yeah. We're from the team. Yeah, we're like, yeah, but we don't, we don't have those expectations. But I've always been happy for anyone. I mean, why would you not be, you know, here? Yeah, my high school is still in it too. Really? Yeah. What's Sycamore High School? Go Spartans. Sycamore Spartans. Yes. We are yellow and black. Okay. I'm in.
I love it. That's it for us. If you missed any show today, you can always check out the podcast at nadicated.com. They go right up after the show. And once again, thank you for being with us.
