I just think it's funny because you're going to watch this trend and some of this stuff is just celebrity silliness and it gets hot for a minute and then it goes away and you know it's not sustainable long term. Some of it is just no. We want this comfort thing you've made but we want it in different varieties and we don't necessarily want to like wear a lace up tennis shoe or something a little different you could do in a casual way and it could become a huge hit. Yep. They're leaning into this one. This is a little
off the rails. It's kind of interesting. I'm to watch this stuff man. I'm telling you. Did you order a pair? No, I didn't. I just thought it was just an interesting rollout. And I saw a lot. I mean, they're clearly pushing stuff out to the media. I mean, you know, you see a lot of stories about it in my Apple news. Here's a story. This is on high.
that the hook trail ready shoes, the final boss of sneaker loafers. I didn't know sneaker loafers were a category. Man, I'm missing out. I don't think you know it. The whole store. I'm not saying that the whole store, but I think I'd be talking to my hook a guy. Yeah. Yeah. I shouldn't look on the B2B today and see if they even show up for us. Let us know next week.
like different silos of stuff that we can get. Like some of the lifestyle hocus stuff we don't have access to. Well, I mean, lawns like that too. I know it's just everything. They do balance like anything that they make if that's available. I don't think you can even get those new ballots. Yeah, they're probably sold out. All right. You're listening to News Talk 1340 WSO Y Decatur right here. Streaming live at nadocatur.com.
Kyle May is in studios with us from Fleet Feet. Had the half frozen half marathon go. And it literally was half frozen. It was all the way frozen. It warmed up a little bit this past weekend. So yeah, over the three days you put together over the three days and run the half marathon or a lot of people did it like last Saturday morning.
Yeah, we had 25 people or so had some custom beanies made for them. Did a raffle prize. Somebody won a pair of a six shoes yesterday. So they came and got fit for those. So very cool. They helped out with it. So yeah, it's a nice little event. And then we're on to the frosty 50.
Okay, now that starts February 1st, right? January 1st, it's our Bloomington versus Decatur. It's a short month. Yeah, fewer days. So how do I sign up? And this is, by the way, this is easy. You've got a treadmill at home. You have a trail you like to do, walk you like to do, run you like to do, go to wear every gym. This isn't someplace you have to go show up at one time. You just log as many miles as you can over a 28 day. You can do it on treadmill. You can do it walking. You can do it running. You can do it outside. However, you want to rack up some miles.
It's Bloomington versus Decatur. We've beat them in the first couple of years and they got fed up with that. So they had a bunch of people sign up last year and they're ahead of us a little bit this year with the registrations. So yeah, you can go to our FleetVee website, FleetVeeDecatur.io.com website and it's under the events tab. There's a Facebook event out there. You can go to it and find it there. You can actually probably Google February Frosty 50 and it shows up with the registration. And then you pick if you want to sign up for Bloomington or Decatur. So sign up for Decatur and we'll start racking up some miles.
And it's like a nice little friendly competition. There's a Facebook group that we get on and share runs and what we've been doing and stuff. And then we have a little post-party in Clinton. So we meet halfway. All right. Decatur, get it together here. Yeah. You got your title taken away last year. Yeah, we got smoked. I started to make the case. We would have won if you divided the amount of participants by the mileage. Don't do that. I started to make the case for you. You're the guy with the Patrick Mahome.
You got to like, you got to let feed it, you know, try. Yeah, turn it into victory. The whole idea is getting people out and moving and being active. So that's the main thing. One last thing, February 22nd, you've got a demo run and a pancake breakfast. And that's coming up. Well, it'll be here before we know it. Yeah, a couple of weeks. So yeah, A6 is coming to town and bringing some of the new updated, uh, Nevis and the Nova Blast shoes and, uh,
You can go check them out, rack up your miles for the Frosty 50. Castles and no tassels. Okay, no tassels. A little, a little poll tab on the back. And then I'm going to make pancakes afterward. My daughter will probably make pancakes afterward. So it's usually always pretty good time. February 22nd, a big open house coming at the end of March. Can't wait to get to spring.
Yeah, like nine vendors lined up for that open house. Those are fun. You're literally going to talk to the experts and people that know the product inside and out and a bunch of them bring in shoes you can try out. That's great. So yeah, it'll be good. All right. Tell me what's doing well right now. Well, the new Hoka Bondi 9 updated.
at the first of the month and it's been selling extremely well. So we got a couple colors of that in and we got widths and we have very large sizes like up to 16 and men's unless we sold them on the website. And then women's up to like 11 or 12 I think in women. So we are specialty stores. So I want to make sure that we have specialty sizes that aren't available everywhere. So we're definitely going after that.
The basics again, they updated the Nimbus. It's been selling pretty well. Got some nice colors into that. Any day now, the Brooks glycerin is updating. So the current one is on sale. We have quite a few of those in the store still, so you can save 30 bucks on that. And then the new one updates February 1st, so any day on that. And then a couple other smaller
brands are updating stuff soon. So yeah, there's a lot of good stuff. Our sale rack's pretty full right now, too. So if you want a lot of great stuff, you come in after the holiday and just swoop in and take advantage of all that great stuff. Do you have a lot of consumers that are watching the industry and go, all right, on February 4th, the new such and such drops. And so they come to eat because that's how it is in the sneaker world. You I mean, you know what's happening on a certain day and you've
adjusted to where you're going to get it, how you're going to try to get it. Is it like that with your shoes? A few. I think some people knew that the bond you was updating. Um, well, because they ran out of them beforehand. So you're like, Hey, wait for the new ones are coming in a month. Uh, not as much as the sneaker, pure sneaker. So they just come to store and kind of, Oh, wow, new. Okay. Yeah. Or they know that they update every once in a while. So they have a older one. So they ask when the, yeah, a little bit, but most of the time it's just you luck.
All right. So watching the football game or a couple of them, but watching, you know, the pregame sort of walk through the tunnel and everybody wants to know what everybody's wearing now. Oh, really? Yeah. All right. That's a thing, right? Maybe more like Joe Burrow, you know, Kelsey, there's some that kind of like really take it to another level. I think Cam Newton was
Also front in on that. I mean, but it's become a thing. Yeah, like you're like, why if you're watching pregame coverage, you know, they're going to cut away to show you and teams will on their Instagrams generally show them getting off the plane or they'll call it game day threads or something and they'll be as great as their coverage of this and those athletes have really, you know, taken it. So Travis Kelsey, I'll tie this into tennis shoes. This
My job. Well, thank you. So he's getting roasted online for his pregame outfit. And it's funny because this is totally the people who roast know nothing about fashion at all.
I instantly identified it as a Tom Brown suit, and it's Tom Brown, by the way, T-H-O-M-B-R-O-W-N-E, who's a kind of an obscure designer.
successful one. And the only reason I know it's Tom Brown is because they have these four stripes on the arm and on the leg and on the tie. So it's like a tan three piece suit, but there's these gray, you know, people are going, what did you do? Break out duct tape, you know, and all this stuff. But there was a huge Adidas lawsuit against Tom Brown a few years ago because they were trying to
say that he was taking, even though his is four stripes that he was taking there. I was saying like Adidas, but we got 25% more. But the jury found in Tom Brown's favor, which is why this is still out there. But when you do look at it, it does kind of look like an Adidas hat, right? Yeah, I got to be honest. I think the suit fits in pretty well. I don't even mind the hat, but it
I think it looks a little janky. Not enough to make fun of them. Just a weird choice. It's fine. Very fun. It's a very expensive make fun. I mean, this is not inexpensive, but this also feels like
post Taylor Swift. This all stuff has been upped, you know, a great deal for Mr. Kelsey. Sure. He's not going there and buying that before her. Yeah. I mean, he doesn't want to come home and have her go sweatpants, really. Yeah. I'm out here in Gucci. Yeah, she's where she had Louis Vuitton on like head to toe with the game this past weekend. Yeah, he's wearing some Jordan threes, too, with a tag still on. Oh, nice. Oh, good.
But that wasn't homemade. That is an actual real designer. And this is also the Tom Brown that brought the suit and shorts look a few years ago with like the high socks. Yeah. That's funny. Same guy. Hmm. What's interesting? I kind of appreciate the fact that they
Gossie it up a little bit before the big game. Yeah, I think it's fun. They do it even regular season. Oh, yeah. Yeah, for sure. And they've been taking that little tunnel shot for a long time, meaning Tom Brady's arrived or whoever, you know, but now it seems like elevated to a whole other thing. And they're getting dressed like this because that's the shot. It has to be a reward sweatpants. That's right. It has to be because the NBA, I mean, the NBA made it a thing. Yeah, full
And remember, they had the NBA had this reputation of being like, you know, a bunch of bad people. And then they're like, fine, we're just going to ultra go fashion chic and show up with stuff that none of you can afford because we're not in the streets. We are rich. Yeah. And it's now been a lot of fun. Yeah. It'd be like Kevin Durant back pack that was like $4,000.
I like it. I think it's fun. I would not pick the suit hands, not his color. No. Can I brag on my kids real quick? Yes. OK, thanks. So I've gotten my two sons into hiking and stuff. We've gone on a couple of trips. What do they wear when they're? Yeah, we got them. We got them. I'm supposed to be. First one of Mike's car. Who's in the other anyway? So my one son is going to school in Columbia. So I took him. We took him the last weekend school.
And he does. Yeah, he's going to mazoo and he's doing well there. Does that change the whole border war experience for you guys? Yeah, I'll pay attention to that stuff. That's not my on my radar for college sports. So I enjoy the line of colors today. Yeah, let's just.
It's a sockingy and fleeky collab. It just happened. Anyway, so we did go to the basketball game when we took him down there. So we went to the zoo game. Yeah. Anyway, that's funny. Anyway, that's a long story. Anyway, so he decides that he wants to take his friends hiking. So he's like, we're going to go in like two weeks and go down to the Ozarks like three hours away and do like a nine mile hike. And we're like, you might want to ease your friends into this just to see if they like this whole idea. So there's a place like 10 minutes outside of Columbia that they went down.
So we're sending pictures on the over the weekend that they were hiking and like this kind of cave thing. They found bats and stuff and there's like a little bit of water in there and everything. So he's sending pictures to our family group chat.
Meanwhile, my other kid who's getting his MBA and got accepted to some great colleges is out visiting Duke and checking it out. And he sends a picture of him and his girlfriend out hiking. They got the hydration packs on and everything. They hike up to some mountain thing out there. So I think I've done a pretty good job in stealing and getting outside and doing cool stuff with your with your friends and girlfriends. So singular. Yeah.
What's that? We said I thought, you know, maybe, you know, the Mrs. does plenty of outdoor stuff as well. Early morning. What she gets out and runs and everything, but she's not a big fan of the hiking stuff. So, but yeah, I think, yeah, she's done a good with both of us. You see, it's doing things. You get me in trouble, Brian. Oh, whoa. I'm not getting you into anything. I'm giving you the opportunity to bail out of that whole I think. That's pretty cool. It is cool. And it's kind of proud.
And then last night, he's sending pictures that are out hiking at nine o'clock at night in Columbia. I'm like, dude, come on. Yeah, I just created a monster. So the monster is doing something different at nine o'clock at night while visiting. Is it fun sharing a similar hobby? Or is that is that a cool part? Then it's like, wow, you're into the thing I'm into. That's neat.
Yeah, he's like using my old watch to go hiking with that has maps on it and everything. So yeah, it's kind of neat. So I like seeing that. Well, it's something you can do forever and it's good for you and get out exploring. Look, it's been already a long winter, even though we're not all the way through it. And I think people are itching to get outdoors. And I would suggest to you.
that if you're going to do that, get a trail shoe and you don't have to get this ridiculous loaf or you can get an actual trail shoe, but you can't. It would sort of like defeat the whole purpose of getting a speed goat to begin with when you walk right out of it up a hill.
But you can, there's specialty shoes that are, and you can be crazy with the trail shoes. I don't like to go overboard with too much, but you get a little extra traction, a little extra, you know, and it makes a difference if you enjoy getting outdoors and hiking. Yeah, and doing that stuff. And like,
I always thought I needed boots or something like that. But they make a line. Yeah. Unless you're carrying like a big 50 pound pack or something like that, you don't really need the full boots. So check it out. And they've got a lot of different models. And they can, you know, and plus, if you just keep those as your trail shoes, then you don't have to worry about like the other stuff you like to wear, you know, if it's muddy or if it's like whatever. You can trash them. Yeah. And they're usually like dark colors or fun colors that don't care if they get dirty. So yeah, proud dad moment. Proud of my kids out doing that stuff. It's cool. All right. Hours of operation.
We were open 10 to six through the week and 10 to four on Saturday. Do people should people call ahead if they want to do the whole experience, meaning like they want to get the scan and the analysis and all of that? Or is it better just to sort of stop by? We're doing pretty good with dropping in and worst case you might have to put your name on a wait list on Saturday and wait for a few minutes. But we've been staffing pretty good to where we've not had a whole lot of that, especially in January. So you can pretty much come by anytime and we'll be able to help you out. It doesn't take a long time.
And you still send the 3D imagery to like you can share it to their phone. Yeah, you can just it's so funny because you look at it and you know, you know, your body. I mean, you know how things feel when you do things, but you don't get to see what your arches look like.
Yeah, some people have different conceptions of what their foot shape is or like I have flat feet and you do it like a pretty high arches like oh man I had no idea for self-diagnosing. Yeah, you know like talking about your own cholesterol or whatever and then a lot of people in the wrong shoe size and then I can't you can't overemphasize that enough I mean that is just a thing because people think
Well, I, I wear a size 10. I've wore 10 forever. Okay. But that 10 is so different in every shoe. That and yeah, that and your foot changes a little bit over time. Absolutely. And then wits like we sell a lot of wides. So nothing wrong with it. Like they're offering more colors and wides and everything. We're carrying more of them. So they have all the data of all the scans and everything and why they're showing up more and more. So it's interesting. All right. That speedloper is going to be a thing.
All right, I'm just talking to my boys at Hoka and see what's going on. We just need their women's by the way. I don't know. I think they're women's. I don't think that they have. They got both. They do. Yeah. So only when I look at it on the Hoka website and they show me what to wear it with, you know, because they do that whole thing, how to wear it. It looks like all women's clothing. Huh? Maybe I'm just on the women's shoe. Maybe there's a men's that's maybe they're telling you to wear women's clothing. Maybe it's
They're woke. Gender neutral. I don't know. Speed looper. Yeah, that's interesting.
I don't have any on pre-book yet. Okay, let us know. All right, I'll look at you. Give it a shot. We're the first indicator. All right, let's do this. We get Kyle out of here. He's got to get to work, get the store opened, and get ready to go. You can check out fleetpedicatoril.com for anything we talked about upcoming events. Check out the inventory and check them out there. The local good guys doing great stuff for the community and offering an incredible service all the time. So please.
stop by and see them and get yourself. You'll thank me. You know, even if you go spend a hundred and eighty five dollars on a pair of speed loafers, you will thank me. It's just it's a game change. You're on your feet a lot, even if you're not out of hiking at nine o'clock at night, just going to work. It makes a difference. Nick's got your three day forecast. You're listening to Buyers & Company, streaming live at nowdicator.com. This is all like running together for me. It's all very familiar, but I can't. This one's Beverly Hills 90210. Oh, that wouldn't have been mine. But I remember it. Yeah. Probably from commercials or whatever. Those guys were our age playing high schoolers pretty much.
I don't think my age, but not far off Luke Barry. He died right suddenly. Yeah. He was in that Archie kind of remake. Yeah. His son's a wrestler right now on AEW. Yeah. I remember I felt that that was like, you know, felt kind of tragic. Like, you know, be too young. I wonder what Kelsey's drinking. He's got a can of something that he's like an open can walking into the game. The labels not pointed out. You know, I can't
No, well, like in one, he's just, you could see it's open because he's got it like in one hand and the other. I can kind of see the label. It's one of those kind of skinnier cans. Yeah. Yeah. Silver and only a Celsius. Is that what? What's Celsius? I'm just one of those energy drinks. Okay. That's an interesting take, like an open can. Oh, I'm sure he, he was paid to do it. Yeah, of course. Makes sense.
It's the celebrity's leaving dinner on the patio carrying the book that is about to be released. It's that thing. The guy on the sidelines reading the book. Oh, yeah. But I mean, oh, yeah. Oh, definitely product placement. It looks like it. I can see one photo where he's holding it in such a way that it's not of concern to him whether he's going to drink it or not.
His thumb is perfectly placed. This is silly. But I don't know what brand that is. I can't get an image big enough. Look, if that's the way it works, good for him. I have no problem with it. Oh, it's something accelerator is the drink. I just cherry and a limeade. And the logo. I mean, it is perfectly placed. Good job. He's not in trouble. You earned your money. Yeah.
Well, there you go. Are you clearly puts his phone in his front pocket? I'm just looking at something close up to the camera. Is it? Yeah, I sit on it. I hate front pocket phone.
I was taught at a young age. Don't put anything you want to keep in your back pocket. Really? Yes. Somebody could take it from you. You sit on it. You could break it. You can control it and feel it in your front. I hate front pocket. Although it does look kind of weird. It's just uncomfortable. Yeah. You end up with thigh rectangles. And then if you have a desk, it is odd that your advice that you got, which is probably good advice is that for 150 years, that's where your wallet went.
Well, yeah. One thing you don't want to lose. Well, chiropractors suggest that you do put it in your back pocket so you can mess up your spine and then they go. From your wallet? Yeah, of course. Yeah, it's like sleeping on a pee. Oh my God. It is not. That's bigger. Well, first of all, sleeping on a pee isn't a thing either.
But it's a story. I know it's a story, but it's not a real thing. No. You sleep on a rock for a long enough. You'll grant it. Product placement at its finest. There you go. Coming up at the bottom of the hour, we'll check in with Mark Tupper and Tupper on Sports. A little later today, Dale Coley will join us and the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation will be in to talk scholarships today.
as well, looking forward to that. Milliken University, which speaking of like getting dressed up, they have their dress to impress event coming up. I like the fact that when you think about, I get that we're in a more casual world today. And that's okay. And the workplace is more casual today than it's ever been. I think widespread. And there are still places
where life is a little dressier and that's okay too. But I still think when you wanna make a first impression or you're going on a job search or interview, right? I think you'd rather be overdressed than underdressed. Just a rule of thumb. Even if the job you're applying for isn't a job that would require you to be overdressed.
Well, there's a scene in Stepbrothers with Will Ferrell and John C. Riley, and they show up in Tuxedo to interview for like a janitor position in Seth Rokens. Now I've come to think of the Tuxedos as a little messed up. I think there are probably some situations where you kind of got to know the audience, but you're right. I'm not suggesting dressed up would be wearing a Tuxedo. I mean,
If you're young and starting out and you've been in college and, you know, wearing sweatpants for four years and not had to do a lot of that, I still think making a first impression at a job interview. Yeah, for sure. And Milliken obviously agrees because they're doing their annual event again, which is the dress to impress event aimed at alumni looking for employment this spring. So they got two events to help in their job search, the spring 2025 dress to impress.
and a career and internship fair. So, ahead of the fair, the Milliken Student Success Center will hold a dress to impressive in on Wednesday, February 5th, that's what next week. From 11 to 1 in the Oberholm Center for Leadership Performance on the 1st floor of the University Commons, the event is open to Milliken students, offers professional clothes,
for everyone to prepare for future job interviews. You can come pick out a free outfit to give you the confidence to succeed in your job search. And then, of course, they have their career in internship fair, which is coming up February 19th from 11 to 1. Final location will be announced. But basically, they go through everything through the interview process. Professional parents make eye contact, how to prepare for interview questions, researching the company you're interested in, and perfecting your resume, all of these things that still matter.
Yeah, I was I was being silly about the stepbrothers thing. But to be completely honest with you, interviews, I've been on both sides of it, mostly on the side of trying to get a job, right? You know, my younger years.
It is an experience that is unlike most things. You go in there, you don't, if you don't have context, especially, and if you didn't have experience, it can be jarring, it can be intimidating, it can be scary, and if you do things wrong, it could be costly. So there's no doubt that this is a huge thing to do.
I don't think that there's a single employer. Clearly there probably are. Nothing is universal. But the vast majority of people whose job is to interface with somebody coming in looking for employment are never going to snob you down because you're dressed too nice. Right. Yeah. The other way. That's right. Absolutely. There's a chance. You come in. Some people might not care. But I guarantee you, you're just you're taking that off the table just by presenting yourself in a nice way.
when I grade at the state level, the future business leaders of America and you watch the kids that come in and they're dressed and their heads are held high and their body language and they greet you and make eye contact and then you watch another school come in where they haven't paid any attention to it. Nothing, no harm, no foul, but they just didn't think about it. Instantly your brain goes, man, they came to win this and the other ones you go, I don't think they're ready yet.
And that's generally it's a subliminal thing, but it sends a message. So you're a hundred percent right because most people and this is just true and it will change generationally, but right now still most people in the HR process are not going to be your age. Yeah, most likely not. Most likely not. No, and maybe have different sensibilities and it doesn't even really matter what it looks like if you get the job and it might be different, but I'm just telling you,
I think it's great that they're having this. And I'm OK with casual. I'm not being a snob about it. I'm just saying that if you're going to make an impression, you'd rather be, look, in fashion, I can't remember which designer said that, like, you would way rather be the most overdressed person in a room than the underdressed person in a room. In any room you go into. Yeah. Because even if it's too dressy, you could play it off as I'm going somewhere nicer after this.
Well, not only that, the range of insults go from, ah, look at Mr. Fancy Pants down to look at that bum. I mean, like one is like, hey, I'm ribbing you. The other one is like, oh, yes. So I think this is a practical thing that they do. And also your college student, you're poor. I mean, you know, they're given free stuff. It's great advice. And they're the type of soft skills that maybe transfer to meetings or, you know, other things as well.
I think it's great. And even people react to that stuff subliminally, even if they don't have their own sort of hardcore thought process. I don't care how you dress, but I'm telling you, you just watch that energy, that posture and put together in this walk into a room. It's different than people coming in like.
They just don't care as much. Yeah. Or it appears. They care every bit as much, but it doesn't feel that way. Yeah. And once the thing starts, you know, lots of a job interview process is subliminal. Yeah, you only got a small window. Yeah. So I kudos to them. And then it looks like they got people from all over the place as far as internship opportunities and careers. That's great. So they do the one thing to get ready. And then they do the thing where they bring people in, which is great. So you can check out the story at nadakator.com.

January is National Radon Action Month. The state is reminding people to make sure you test your home for radon. Radon has no smell, taste or color. It's the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. Radon test kits could be purchased by calling the Illinois Radon Hotline at 800-325-1245 or at most hardware and department stores. It's recommended to conduct a short-term and a long-term test.
If you find higher readings, contact IEMA for info about a licensed mitigation professional trained to reduce radon levels. More at now, Decatur.com.

All right, we're back here. Let's try this one more time. Mark Topper and Topper on sports. Sorry about that, buddy. Can you hear me? Yeah, I can hear you well. OK, sad news about F from winners. Really sad news about F from winners. Great player died yesterday, only 61 years old. This is a guy that really, if you go back, kind of helped, I would credit him with
triggering that influx of players from Chicago to Illinois that made Illinois one of the best teams in the country through the 80s. But he was a McDonald's All-American. In fact, he was the MVP of the McDonald's All-American game. His recruiting class included Bruce Douglas and Doug Altenberger and Scott Mance.
and Reggie Woodward. This was a great group that took Illinois to the 84 Big Ten championship and then in the NCAA tournament in the third round they lost to Kentucky 54 to 51. The game was played in Lexington on Kentucky's home floor and the NCAA ended up taking a look at it and said
That's not fair. And so that was the last time that happened where you could play on your home floor at that point in the NCAA tournament, but too late for Illinois. He was taken in the fourth round of the NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks, never played in the NBA, ended up working in construction and lived in Aurora, was a really quiet guy.
who became a grandpa. There was a lot of people within the Illinois program that were trying to get him to be a more visible presence around the Illinois program because there were so many people that looked up to him. He was so good. And that just never happened and passed away Monday after a long illness, I'm told. And man, that made me sad because that guy was a lot of fun to watch. He was outstanding.
No doubt about it. On the other side of the break, we'll do a little Chicago Bears update with Mark Tupper and Tupper on Sports. It's brought to you by First National Bank. Big bank products, local bank service.
Hi, this is Dale Coley from Dale's South Lake Pharmacy and Coley's Corner Drugs. Let me tell you about my friends at First National Bank. back here with Mark Tupper and Tupper on sports. All right, the Bears. Well, Ben Johnson's trying to fill out his staff after being named the new head coach of the Bears. And it's a little bit of a tricky process because there's a lot of teams trying to do the same thing right now. You did because they made that coaching changes or maybe they want to just simply make a coordinator change. So the big one is naming Dennis Allen, the defensive coordinator.
He will be in charge of running the Bears defense. He's a former head coach at New Orleans and Raiders. Was not a successful head coach, but that doesn't matter. There's a lot of guys who are really good coordinators. They get promoted into the head coaching position. That's not where they can shine. I'm looking at somebody like Steve Spagnolo, who's the defensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs. Some people would say the best defensive coordinator.
In football, he's a guy who had the kind of success that earned him a shot at a head coaching position. He was 10 and 38 with the Rams, just a really good defensive coordinator. So Dennis Allen will take over the Bears defense. And the other value that he brings is he was a former head coach and Ben Johnson has not been so he may be able to help.
Ben Johnson identify some trouble areas before they get to be too big and just helping through things. Declan Doyle who was the tight ends coach in Denver is the new offensive coordinator. That's not as important as it might be in some situations because he will not call plays. Ben Johnson will call plays. Be interesting to hear exactly what his duties will be. A couple of bears coaches
Looks like they're going to surface on other teams. Thomas Brown, remember him? He's the guy who was the sort of the Bears passing game coordinator, got promoted to interim offensive coordinator when Shane Waldron was fired, then got promoted to interim head coach. When Matt Eberfloos was hired, he's going to be the passing game coordinator for the New England Patriots under Mike Verable and Matt Eberfloos.
looks like he will be the new defensive coordinator for the Cowboys under Brian Schottenheimer, another example of what we were talking about. I thought he was a really good defensive coordinator, just not cut out to be a head coach. And he apparently will run that job for Brian Schottenheimer, a bit of a surprise. You know, we were talking about Deon Sanders. But this relationship with Brian Schottenheimer, who was
Dallas's offensive coordinator in the relationship with Dak Prescott. Very strong. Dak Prescott showed up for his introductory press conference in the on kind of likes Colorado and I don't know what conversations were had with Jerry Jones regarding.
Deon wanting his son to be the quarterback. So, um, they're going to avoid all that and hire Brian Schottenheimer, who in turn, looks like, well, hire Matt, but Matt, he prefers. All right, my friend, enjoy your day and we'll check in with the first thing tomorrow morning, Mark Tupper and Tupper on sports. You know, the interesting thing about effram winters. And I don't know, it has to be, he has to be named after the famous actor from sunset strip because his full name is effram symbolis winters.
Well, I didn't know that. I didn't know much about him to be honest with you. Well, at all, any of that 80s basketball was a pretty exciting time for a line of fame. It's not the whole decade, but you know, there was some great stuff. But Ephraim Zimbalist Jr. was such a unique name. That's right. It'd be stunned if that didn't have. And the timeline of him being when he was famous and when Ephraim Winters was born, it would certainly make sense. Checks out. Yeah. Nice. Ephraim Zimbalist Winters.
Nice. Six, nine, fun to watch. I did solve the drink. I saw that. Thank you. Travis Kelsey, a player in the accelerator energy drink game. So yeah, he may like it. He may drink it, but he certainly affiliated with it. I would. I would think, look, there's nothing wrong with branding, right? And the most in the best branding is like, Hey, I really love your product. Right. What can we do together? The worst is I really hate your product, but I'll act like I like it.
because I'll sell my soul. That's right. Yeah, he seems to be someone that has taken up on things that have met him where he's at. Well, I feel like what he's doing now is planning for retirement from football. I mean, every business opportunity available
had the bank account and then set off on the next phase of whatever your career is. Yeah. And his brother is right there. If not, zoom and buy him. I mean, he's everywhere. And I kind of go back and forth on him. He's fine. I don't need him though. I think the commercials are funny. And him and his wife have a funny dynamic. But as far as on air, yes, man, just a little step. I don't hate it, but it's not. He's not comfortable. Super insightful or anything. It's just funny.
Yeah, and not even like loose funny yet. It's just a little restricted for right now. I'm sure I'll get his legs. Tom Brady feels a little restricted right now. It probably just comes with time. I don't think Tom Brady's awful. No, it's not awful. Just not. But I mean, everybody that rips on it, I mean, I feel like he's every bit as good as any other former player in telling you what this play design looks like and how this is, you know, and this is what this is called and why. I mean, he does that as well as any former player.
Yeah, but he does it less because he doesn't pick his spots. Well, yeah, but I will tell you cadence is bad. His partner isn't Jim Nance either. No, no, I think you're right. Who's he paired with right now? I can't remember his name and he's okay. Look, there's not.
I'm there to watch the game. I think that the teams can, it's not like radio where I, all I have, you know, growing up is Jack Buck, you know, or Vince goalie, master, you know, they had to paint the whole picture for you. But watching the NFL, even if the announcers aren't great, it's not ruining my experience of enjoying the football game.
No, but I like listening to Greg Olson tell me here's where the what's going to happen here. And here's what just happened. Yeah. But I think Tom Brady does OK. And he's certainly improved. Yeah. Throughout the year. And for a guy who's never done it. Yeah. And I'm sure if you went back to look at Greg Olson year one. Yeah. Yeah. He's Tom Brady's fine. Yeah. His voice is a little annoying.
But he can't help. He was really good. I am a Homer, but he is really good. Matt Ryan's really good at this. I think so too. It's very good. No, no, I agree with it. I like their slate for the most part, all the networks. And I like the fact that they've revamped and brought in some youth and players, more players rather than commentators. Yeah, I just think every because we have the ability not to rip every single broadcast, it's like that's all we do.
And then sports world, they do stories. It's, it's not enough that people can just tweet stuff. But then we do stories about what people are tweeting. Yeah. You're right. And no one was doing a story about the guy at the bar that had an opinion about Jimmy the Greek. But that's how we cover sports now. Or at least that's what they do to generate clicks. That's right. All right. Let's do this. Do the break. Dale will join us on the other side. We'll be back with more right after this. When you're hiring,

Good morning. Welcome to alcohol in studios. He'll be also in studios tonight at five o'clock for pharmacy facts with friends. Good morning. How you doing? I'm doing really well. It's been a much better day this week and last week, a little nippy last week, but it's yeah.
things are good. Can't complain at all. We get this snow melted out of here. And can I get a day without the wind? It's like, hey, here's 40, but it feels like 19. Yeah, it was a few days when it was said it was plus on the thermometer, but it was very negative whenever the windshield factory. All right, we'll get through it. Come on. We'll just toughen up. All right. What's on the show tonight? Today we've got the
They're going to be in talking about their usual things that they have going on to educate a regional chamber, an update on their everything going on within the chamber. Plus, we're going to have an employer's new laws update for 2025, and they will be talking about all their upcoming events that employers 2025 new laws.
It's amazing. The number of laws that are enacted and you never hear about them. And in the first, first year, suddenly there are a lot of votes going on. A lot of things every year. The new laws and there you go. That's how you end up with those big things hanging in your staff kitchen. Exactly. All the fine print. Exactly. And then we'll have Zach Murphy from the Catholic Charities is going to be here. We're going their upcoming Mardi Gras event, which is going to be Saturday, February the 22nd.
at the KC Hall. And this event helps the fund the Meals on Wheels programs and their prescription assistance programs and much more for the Catholic Charities. And we've been involved in that and Lauren's been involved in that for quite some time. But going to see how Zach Murphy handles this being in charge of the Catholic Charities event. So that should be a fun time.
And then we'll also have a monthly update for our Richmond Community College. And it was interesting, we had our board meeting last week. And one of the things that really hit me is that the 72% of the individuals that the students that go to Richmond Community College pay no tuition, pay no costs involved in it. So 72% of, I know one time,
community colleges was going to be a free tuition type situation and we're getting there. What's 72% of them? That's interesting. You know, you wonder how you figure out budgets and revenue and all that, you know, as a business owner, a little different when it comes to the community college. But
It's great that so many people are able to access and use that to change their lives, whether they can afford it or not. And a great big shout out to the foundation of Richmond Community College because a lot of it is the money, private money that's raised type of thing and grants and things like this. So it's it's no no money from the
from the taxes and things like this. This is strictly full scholarships and grants. So that's even a better type situation than why I look at it. But it was eye opening from my perspective. I've been on board for quite some time. And that number rang very, very loud to me. About 72% of the students are coming here.
without having any debt when they get out of that program. Okay. What can you tell me? And I know it's, as you said, you know, every day there's something new.
But the lowering prescription drug costs for Americans that was signed in the law by Joe Biden in 2022, the executive order has been rescinded and canceled by President Trump this week. This isn't a political conversation. This is a realistic conversation. How will this impact people? Do you all know yet? People who have had access with this has been an ongoing thing. You guys have been with these managers and everything else.
and all the things that have, what does this mean for folks? Those type of things with the insulin and those type of programs will still be in effect. The big issue about the lowering the prescription drug costs, it allowed the government to actually negotiate prices and things like this with the individuals. They had never had that ability to do that type of a thing,
mind-boggling to me. Why would you not sure as if you're the biggest Kahuna that's there. Why would you not be telling them? You know, I really want to have these prices lower, but that took
an executive order to do that. I think that's going to be put into a bigger bill as the way I understand it, but we'll have to wait to see if that's going to really happen. But even though you don't want it to be political, it's just a political game sometimes. Yeah, but if you're going to cut costs for Americans, and that was clearly one of the things that was the centerpiece of that campaign.
getting rid of this $2 in Eric access for people who can't afford it. I mean, it's going to impact people's lives. I just, it must be hard. My question to you is just like, you know, you guys talk about all the new state laws and you talk about all the new federal and then you got executive orders and then we'll get new executive orders going to rescind that order.
How do you keep up with them? And then people don't know until they show up to get their prescription. Yeah, it takes an individual that you have on staff to dig into the minutiae of everything. But there is one great part of the new Medicare Part D program, which was they camped out-of-pocket expenses at $2,000 for individuals. Well, that's going to make a huge impact. Yeah, still a lot of money, though. A lot of money.
It's still in the past, it's been over $2,800 and then you still had to pay a percentage of the cost of the drug. Now it's maxed out at $2,000 and it will really help people that are on some very, very expensive medications.
And it is a true benefit for them on that type of situation. All right. Well, I'm glad you guys are here to solve and help translate and do all that. I just know I think if you take most Americans and you go, OK, do you want to back the top 10 pharmaceutical companies?
in the U.S. that made $500 billion in profit last year, or do you want to protect senior citizens to be able to afford their medication? Yep. I didn't get any other aspect of it where you got the PBMs are taken and changing, moving things out of
say Alabama or Oklahoma or Illinois and then they're avoiding the taxes that have to be paid on this that we have as a small business have to pay the state of Illinois because we don't have the ability to fill this in some other location.
That and that is in the billions of dollars. It's going there and following the money with that type of thing is really is going to where they're going to see some real impact on getting some money back into the ability to pay for some of these programs that they have to pay for. We appreciate it. We'll see you tonight at five o'clock pharmacy facts with friends next got your three day forecast. We'll be back with more right after this.

Oh, yeah. So it's that legacy, not only of him and that incredibly brave story, but how it's impacting people today with spinal injuries.
