Good morning and welcome to the Tuesday edition of Buyers and Company. Kyle May stops by in his regular spot. We'll check in with Mark Topper and Tupper on Sports plus the heart of Illinois Community Foundation. Company starts now. Buyers and Company W. S. O. Y. 13 40 A. M. 103. 3 F. M.
Good morning. And how do you do as we start our day and what a beautiful day it's going to be via Nick's forecast there. Love it. I know I got some wind, maybe a little later in the afternoon, but warmer temperatures and some sunshine all the way ready to go. We start today's program by thanking Haker Point Bank for hosting us yesterday. There's a lot of fun. Got to meet some new people, which is always great. I love the fact that their feeder system, they're bringing in some new young guns.
Yeah. And I think it's how these things sort of you fast forward many years and then you look back and you go, Oh, I remember when they started because they have to be introduced at some point and there's overlap and there's all these different generational things. So it was really cool to see.
you know, faces that, you know, from doing business there or just being at things in the community and then seeing the next people that you'll see. And I guess Bennett's sort of in between where he's sort of new and sort of better. So it's like, it's the whole thing. Sort of young and sort of a veteran. There you go. Well, part of our century tour, we had a great time. I think Carla Miller and all the crew, if you missed any of it, you can check out the podcast at nadikator.com.
great stuff as always. So I wanted to follow back up with the Christopher Walken story. I told you last week that he's in this new Apple season of Severance, the Ben Stiller directed show that took like three years for season two to come back. And he can't watch it because he doesn't have Apple. And so they send him DVDs in his mailbox. That was sort of the story. He's never owned a cell phone.
Oh, I love that. There's a Wall Street Journal follow up interview with Christopher Walken and this story made the rounds. And so they followed up with an interview and he's never owned a cell phone ever. Love that. I think that's great. He's been
He's had enough money and success and certainly people around him that if you need to get a hold of him, you get a hold of them and they'll sort it out. And if I'm needed, call me there. Isn't it crazy? I mean, in a way, he's got this for an odd guy, meaning, you know, he's such an odd actor and plays odd roles and has really leaned into that for the last 50 years.
He's been married to the same woman since 1969. They go back way before his fame, way before the deer hunter, or any time, you know, Christopher Walkenriving the same. He lives in Connecticut, which is about as like opposite of Hollywood as you could possibly get, and he's never owned a cell phone.
And I had forgotten that he was married. So that also that's kind of like they probably he probably shares an email address, whatever his wife's name is. So it's probably like Christopher and Stephanie 55. I mean, so it's still in the realm of doable at his age. It's not very doable moving forward with any sort of success. And yeah, I love that about him. Good for him. And so I just thought, I don't know if I know anyone that fits this category.
Oh, man, that has never owned one. I don't know that I've I don't know anybody that doesn't own one, but there are certainly there have been people in my life that there was no point in trying to contact them because they either they never have their phone or they never answer it. So there are still some of that.
I don't know anybody that just flat out never had one. And I don't know. I mean, there are bigger actors. There's bigger stars. There's bigger, you know, personalities, but he's been pretty consistent over the last 50 years. Christopher Walken is sort of ever present in one way or another, whether it's a commercial or the dancing or, you know, people doing impressions and never playing him. And he's also at any moment. If you heard, Hey, next year at the Oscars,
Christopher Walken's up for best actor. Like he's that where people wouldn't be surprised if he had a role that he nailed in a, in a hot film and nominated to win the whole thing. I mean, he's, he's got the ilk weather deserved or not deserved. He's just the real deal. So he doesn't wear a watch either. It doesn't, it doesn't own a watch. No phone, no watch. Love it.
He says, I've never had a watch either, but if I had the need the time, I just asked somebody. Uh, likewise, once in a while, when I need to use a phone, I can just ask if I could borrow. Oh yeah. So can you imagine you're the studio, the director, and you're getting a call from Bob Smith, you know, because he's in a hotel lobby just using someone's phone. Exactly right. And they have a great story for the rest of their life. I'm sure this, um, he's, if he's a smoker, he's the least friend. He's the type of smoker you don't want to be around.
Because he's probably like, Hey, you gotta, can I bum a square? It's like, dude, you're always bumming a square. Get your own squares. Well, a square man, did you just take back to like a certain time in a era?
I've never been a smoker, but I have seen a square. I have seen. Yeah, I got to go way back for that. But yes, at one point, that would have been exactly the thing. If he was in my circle of friends and I was a non smoker, at some point, I would have just went and bought whatever pack that he likes. Yeah, carried them around to go here, man. Leave them alone. Let them have theirs.
Let me get a fry. You didn't want me. But he's literally the guy everyone wants to have that interaction with. Dude, you said you're taking the pack with us. That would steal the experience. We just went through the drive through. You said you did not want any. No, you can't have a swig of my coke. We did love it. Absolutely love it. He's a treasure. He's awesome. Like kind of a national treasure. And I know to be fair,
He has a very unique look, but his acting chops.
He leans into the weird thing and the walk in things sometimes. But when he's in what it's called for when that's what he's hired. Correct. But he has the chops. Dear Hunter King of New York in 1978. You know, I was 12 years old. And what in the world was I doing watching this movie? But this was such a mesmerizing performance in a movie with Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep. And I mean, you had like a listers. Oh, yeah, no doubt.
No doubt. And, you know, Michael Tamino, who was, you know, at that time sort of an avant-garde sort of new frontier director. And I just remember like, I've never seen anything like this guy. And then he did the Stephen King book. I can't remember the name of it, where he could touch people. Yeah, the automobile accident was in a coma. And then he tried to get on with his life and whenever he touched people, he could see the future. That's right.
Yeah, do you remember that? What was the name? They turned into a TV series with Michael Anthony Hall later. Yes, you see did. So yeah, he's I love him in just about anything. And I don't know the last time to be honest with you. I've seen him in anything other than the retrospective Saturday Night Live stuff, which they have an entire segment or entire episode of that documentary based on the entire cowbell skit. Yeah, he was in
Let's see, he was in Doom part two. Yeah. I'm trying to think, man, not a whole lot lately. Well, he's 81 years old. So, you know, he's certainly been around for a very long time. And there was another movie, even before the Dear Hunter, which he just made sort of a, the Dead Zone, by the way, was the name of the movie in 1983, that he popped up
In 1977 as in Annie Hall as sort of the deranged brother talking about sometimes when he's driving and he just wants to drive his car into the car and then there's the next scene where they're in the backseat and he's driving them to the airport or whatever. It's just a brief cameo role, which was really, really good. I didn't remember that being him. I remember the scene. Yeah. Seven psychopaths. If you've not seen that movie. Okay.
I love that movie. It's it's from 2012. It's popcorn. He's it's about literally seven psychopaths and they go and take somebody hostage and all the
high jinks and so it's on the same sort of style of of be cool at jaymore's in it. It's pretty funny. Yeah. Skip any of these stuff like Batman Returns or even the James Bond run stick with true romance and whole fiction. The stuff that was like in his wheelhouse where he would just come in as almost a cameo and just sort of steal the movie. That watch scene.
Why do you say why is that in here? I mean, it makes sense for jeez leave. There's that scene with him in true romance, literally. Oh, he's so good stuff. Yeah, I have to do like a Christopher Walken marathon or something this coming weekend. You could probably watch his whole thing in like a day. I think so. Yeah, he's more
He just doesn't do a lot. And a lot of the stuff that he does, he does very little bits. But at close range was another really good movie where he plays Sean Penn's dad is sort of this country mafia kind of thing. He was really moving in that. Suicide King, Sleepy Hollow. I forgot he was in man on fire. I love with Denzel Washington. One of my very favorites.
It was in wedding crashers. Oh, remember that. He was good. He was the, um, he was the dad. Okay. And one of the weddings is very good. All right. So there you have it. And of course he was Bruce Dickinson in more cowbell, which got its own.
hour long. He's got a few of the documentary. Yes. And it was so funny because literally I think Will Ferrell just stole that name off the back of an album because he thought it was a funny name. And the idea that it cost was consternation of people trying to figure out if it was a real person they were basing it on or not. Got to love that stuff. Good stuff. Christopher Walken just can't call him on a cell phone. Never ever had one. That's great. I wonder how often it works that somebody's like
Hey, call Tony and see if Chris is around and it works. Maybe when I was a teenager, I was the first one and my friends with a cell phone. And that was the thing. Hey, man, what's going on at what age?
I don't know, 14, 15, 16. Yeah, that used to be kind of. Yeah. And you'd be like, nothing. What's going on? Glad you call it. Hey, cool. It was Brian. And we only got 60 minutes. They were just using you as a conduit. Yeah, at least sometimes they'd be nice at the moment. And other times they'd be like, hey, it's Brian there. And it's like, dude, it's my phone. Yeah, my 60 minutes.
Yeah. Don't forget his stage work as well. He was a renowned stage actor. So you got to kind of throw that in with all the movies. And then great dancer. That's still that video. Was it art of noise or somebody or maybe it was a fat boy slim, fat boy slim. Yep. Yep. Did you do something with Elton John? Out of that, I don't know.
I feel like there's something in the back of my head there about that. But yeah, fat boy slim. That was great. Oh, yeah. All right. There you go. Just don't try to get him on the phone. Kyle coming up here at the bottom of the hour will take a little trip down memory lane. He was excited. I sent you the pictures of the new Ferrari race suits modeled by
Louis Hamilton and Charlotte Claire yesterday. I thought they hit the right note. You know, they've moved around like sometimes they put some yellow. They went to the all black for a race. They went to the that weird blue like, you know, they didn't. Yeah, I've been happy with most of it.
Lewis is yellow helmet popping on top of that red red suits going to look really good. I think so. You got to be happy about that. I'm so happy. So Kyle wrote back and he'll be with us here in just a few minutes. Literally 29 days until. Man, I hate the way our email stacks up.
29 days till pre season 47 days till the first race. That's where we are right now. We got a new slate of people stuff to watch. Six new rookies. Yep. Six brand new bad boy in red. And we have some news about Miami. We have some news about NASCAR in Chicago slashing some prices and Miami offering for the first time ever a one day. That's meaning you don't have to buy the whole thing, which
This seems like a dub move to me. Like, you know, why wouldn't you give the people the opportunity that want to pop in for a day, a chance to do that without having to buy the whole thing? Did the headlines say the new has worn off? That's what that means. Is it just more inclusive? No, they're not worried about being inclusive. They're
worried about something moving tickets. If they were all being bought three in a clip, they'd sell them three in a clip. But now they got to break them out. Do you think for the long run, though, that they don't even for their own selfish interests need to worry about being inclusive? Do I think that? Yes. Do I think they think that? No. They're Miami.
I guess. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, right. That's how you need to think about it. But do I think they were thinking about? No, they just probably looked up and go, Oh, there's a little lighter. Maybe we can inch it up too high and we got to figure out another way. I feel like the exact opposite is happening in Chicago with NASCAR, meaning they did one. And now they're trying to figure out how to do it better. Whereas Miami's been around about four years.
NASCAR feels a little more at the moment, nimble in terms of like, hey, let's try to make some micro adjustments. Always been that way. To some extent. I mean, I think they were doing stuff very specific way for a very long time. But the last few years, they've been sort of trying.
stuff. Right. I think they've always been fan friendly though and that fan base may have been a kind of narrow base and maybe they're doing a better job in broadening the base, but I think of all the sports they've been as fan friendly as you could possibly get. How about I say this? They set it up a certain way and the fans were fine with the way they set it up. So yeah. And so the two things sort of met, but they weren't really changing the way they did things. I mean, you knew here's what it takes to get Daytona tickets
Indy is like that too. Got it. Got to have a waiting list. Got to do that. Sure. But I think Andy, even Indy on its circuit or Daytona on its circuit is very vastly different than the rest of the seats. I mean, they go to some pretty small places. Yeah. And like, you know, even the Las Vegas race, they probably do differently because it's just not sort of their home base. And so they know people are going to pay more for the whole experience of having a
Las Vegas trip and a race. But I think when they go to a track in South Carolina, I think it's a whole different story. You're probably right. The more I think about it. The campers and the stuff. I'll tell you what, it looked like the first time Jim Kim has pulled me over a hill and there's not many hills, you know, there in Las Vegas. But to where that camping section was, like people just driving in either with campers or tents or whatever, it looked like a CGI scene. That's right. Like I can't believe they do this every week. So dense. Yep.
And they just move from place to place and do the same thing all over again. Had that farm progress feel like this probably looks the same. Every single place you go. Yeah, absolutely. Yep. All right. Anyway, news on that and some new Hot Wheels. Oh, nice. It was the last time. I started thinking the last time I even held a Hot Wheel in my head. Like an actual Hot Wheel. I bought two two days ago. OK. They're only a dollar, a dollar 19. How is that possible? Well, I don't know.
summer. You mean new like off the shelf? Yeah. They're $1 19. I think that's great. It's just surprising to me. You can also buy 15 and $20 ones. I mean, the whole I know, but I'm just surprised. Just you can't buy a soda for that. You walk up to a band. They're a dollar. Really? Yep. OK. I can't tell you the last time. Yeah. Second grade. Some are built build quality. There's plastic and metal. There's metal only. There's plastic only. There's mixed match.
Both the brands, the Matchbox and Hot Wheels. Oh, this AI crap. Yeah, so I don't need the GT Hunter. That's not what I'm looking for.
quit filling it in for me. How big are I mean, they were introduced in 1968. I met how big in the culture like in kids toys. Like I bought a lot of kids toys for nieces or nephews Christmas time. I don't think I've ever bought anything in the realm of Hot Wheels. Man, I spent a lot of time in the toy aisle. Toy aisles. I would say almost always universally if there's any sort of level of business for the day, there are people
Sorting through them. They're a matchbox. Yeah. Yeah. It's now owned by Mattel. Yeah. Yep. I'm thought about that for very, very, very hard. Sometimes we're in the same bins or in the bin right next to them. I'm I'm super surprised and delighted that they're still very affordable for people. Yeah. They have collectible ones that are more expensive. You know, I know it's not a matchbox. I was going to say I got you a Checo Perez, but it's not it's neither of those. It's a but it's the same scale. It's
No, it's one bigger. It's one more scale. Yeah, that's a bigger than I remember. Yeah, you can't get the this is the I am sure got the name that looks like I can't tell where this company is from. It starts with a R right? Was it an R or is it a B? Oh, that's a good question. VRAGO. Yeah, they're good looking cars.
A little picture of Checo and everything. This is a birthday over the weekend. Sunday, I believe FOM is trying to sell me 50% off merchandise to celebrate Checo's birthday. It's like, dude, just takes salt and rub it in. Oh, yeah. Oh, I love when they just set up football teams where they'll suddenly be trying to move somebody on. You're going to be able to get a lot of Jimmy Butler merch soon.
help us celebrate Jimmy's birthday. That's right with some Miami heat gear. That's exactly right. Let's move this on. All right. Let's do this. We got to take a break for bottom of the hour news. Show that problem growing pains. Oh, okay 80s and 90s TV show theme songs. Is that what we're doing? Heads up next time. I don't mind. I just feel like maybe we got the wrong station on or something. Who knows? Did you seem singing along? Oh, yeah. I listened to an interview with Alan Thicke on a Howard Stern, and he had some guests in the
studio doing something weird and how thick is like, I probably I probably regret sticking around for this. It's pretty funny guy. I died young, didn't he? Younger. Yeah. Yeah. He's a guy kind of perpetually looking young and his son, right? Was like a flash and kind of a big name for a while. Well, then he was the host on one of the singing shows. I think it was the masks here. Really? Yeah, he was one of the guests or the judges. Yeah. I haven't heard his name in a while. Yeah.
Anyway, there you go, growing things. Is that's the show where Leonardo DiCaprio showed up as like a weed little child, right? Absolutely. Good morning and welcome. I didn't really watch that Kirk Cameron could bug me then and I didn't know why, but now I do. It's a good show at the time. Yeah, I bet it doesn't hold up, but I did like it. How many of them do? You're going to check out the Cosby show next week or something.
They're worst examples you could come up with, I'm sure. What was the Tony Danza one? Oh, who's the boss? Who's the boss? Okay. There we go. I was like Jessica Tandy. Remember, she played the mother-in-law, but she was on soap originally. And then she was Miss Daisy. No. Yeah. Oh, driving Miss Daisy. Yeah. Yeah. Wasn't that Jessica Tandy? That's either. We're wrong about the name of the redhead who was in the two shows. You're talking about Mona, and that was not Jessica Tandy.
Uh, just get Tandy was driving his days. What's the name of the lady? You're right. She was on the soap and then she was I thought her. Maybe her name was Jessica too. I don't know. My name was Mona. Mona on who's the bosses who are looking for character, right? Yeah. Flashbacks. Are you really? You okay? He just walk you through it? Yeah, he did.
either. Yes, Jess Mona Robinson was her name and she was played by Catherine Hellman. Catherine Hellman. OK, that's right. I don't know why I thought Jessica Tandy. You're right. Jessica Tandy was definitely Miss Daisy driving Miss Daisy and a lot of other things. But I don't remember seeing that other woman in anything other than soap and who's the boss? She looks like she was very funny. Yeah, she's awesome. OK.
We've got some friends reruns that's been kind of, well, that became a big thing during COVID, right? Like you bounce back on Netflix and new generation watching that. I never really, I think I was like the wrong age or just in a different point in my life. Like when I was aimed at me the first time, I was familiar with it. I watched an episode here or there, but I just wasn't a huge fan of a sister who's between my age and your age. And that's like the sweet spot right in there. Yeah, I was totally into it.
Yeah, that would be your age. Yeah. That's about right. Yeah. So they'd all holds up. It's still funny, but it's like the technology is obviously a lot. But you want technology go back and I was having kind of a throwback moment yesterday.
And I watched three days of the condor, which is you can watch it on Paramount with Robert Redford and Faye Donaway. And it is so funny, like what they were trying to show you a state of the art in 1977. And it looks like the Stone Age. And then you also think, how hard would it be to track somebody down back there? I mean, you could hide.
Yeah, legit. Yes. New York City. I'll be behind this tree. Good luck. Yeah. Just go do something bad and just leave. But there's a point in the movie where he's this expert on everything because all he did was read books for the CIA. He's not like a trained person at all. It's a great movie, but he takes the telephone like the mob bell telephone box out of the thing. And the technology is using to tap into the tape recorder phone and get a phone number back and you're like, Oh my God.
Just that theory can you record? Yes, exactly. You know, even Google, you know, AI, we get that right 30% of the time. Oh, that's pretty high mark. They're moving up. I'm saying that's how old the technology was. Anywho, good morning. Welcome, Kyle May in studios from Fleet Feet Decatur, IL.com. So we were talking about Hot Wheels earlier. I saw an F1, literally from Formula One press release about the new
licensing deal that they have with Hot Wheels. And you can get eight of the teams. And so I had to take a minute to figure out who are the two missing teams. They've got a picture and they're legit like Hot Wheels. I mean, but they're legit F one cars. I mean, they've got the, it isn't sort of like we remember as a kid when they
kind of had a version of something. These are they look exactly like those toys that have been bringing in for show and tell that are through the Mattel creations label or they were they like partner with things. They released their own generic F1 car that's just here is an F1 car in this universe. And then they secured the license
And now they're making proper team. Yes. But it took me a minute. The obvious one right off the bat and we've been talking about this. There's no red car. There's no Ferrari. Yeah. So of the eight out of 10 teams, no Ferrari. And then it took me a minute to identify what the second missing car was. And it's Aston Martin. Oh, yeah.
It has to do with existing toy deals. They sure probably. But I mean, in what world would you rather have a steak car than a Ferrari if you're selling hot wheels, have one cars? Yeah, no, I I'll go for the Williams.
Do you guys have any alpene? Because I'm interested in that. Yeah. Pink livery. They showed like one of the tracks. It'd be cool if they had like a real track. Uh-huh. That would be rare. That's the thing that never really worked out in my world with the reality of Hot Wheels is that's not what a track. They don't need to start up here to get speed. Well, then they have the little shoots they pop them and they flop them and they fly out and drop the Batmobile and a toilet with one of those.
It was decades ago, though, just to clean that up. I realized I needed to. I was in my 20s. That was in my 20s. I was playing in the back of the kid playing in the bathroom, probably driving around the track, but it had the pink dot on the bottom. So it meant it wasn't my Batmobiles, my sisters. Oh, yeah. So I got in trouble to get a baggie. The.
F one breaking into mainstream with like the legos, hot wheels and all that stuff's pretty interesting. They used to be like really, really hold that stuff close to the chest. So they've opened it up a lot more. Well, but they've also what they're doing is sort of recipe for everybody else. I mean, you can see the natural transition after drive to survive. Now everybody's got a Netflix show and some of those are more successful than others. And then it's sort of turning into like what what does the fan base look like? And there were two stories, one yesterday that NASCAR
for the second Chicago race is going to let all kids in free, which I think is a great, I mean, they don't take up much space, right? Why not start young, right? Yeah, they got they need to bring a grown up so that they can buy popcorn and drinks and then they're going to be hooked.
Yeah, that's wonderful. So tickets go on sale Monday for the Chicago race and organizers are promising quicker set up and tear down times like like, you know, here's what they didn't know and what they learned by trying to put this thing in the middle of a city. And they interrupted a lot of people's lives because there's a lot of people that you can have in the city, right? And work in the city. But they also tickets go on sale Monday. They're cheaper than in past years. And so they've
I think the ticket is a single day general mission ticket will now cost ninety nine dollars. That's down from a hundred and fifty last year. So that's great. Fifty one dollar discount on just a general admission. And you bring your kids in free. So you bring kids in free. So realistically that goes from six hundred dollars to now two hundred dollars and you bring your two kids. That's exactly right. Now the cost for a two day general mission ticket is a hundred and fifty. That was two sixty nine last year. So that's a big drop for a two day pass, right?
Reserve seating starts at $200 and I think the most expensive reserve seat is $350, but that's also a 350, a 50% decrease from last year. Yeah, my kid lives downtown. How what's the age limit on the free kids? I think that there's he's probably has that if he lives on his own in downtown Chicago. He's my kid.
So I thought that was smart. And then I saw the same thing yesterday in the Miami Grand Prix for F1. They're selling for the first time this year, just a single day pass. You had to buy a bundle in past years. Now Nick pointed out earlier, and he's absolutely correct. There are places like Las Vegas and Miami that are just different than most places. You expect more expensive everything. Yeah. Because you're going to a destination place. I never looked at the tickets for Miami, were they?
or the past expensive, but you had to like you had to buy multiple days or you couldn't just go for a day. And I think I would like multiple days, but there's a lot of people that a day is enough, right? I mean, you get to see and hear the noise and see the cars and you know, you're not there for, you know, the whole thing. I looked at Austin. It's it's very affordable. Yeah. I haven't looked in Vegas. This seems like everybody.
It's a hard time and the people that go end up having a great time. The Vegas and Miami deal is way different. And if you just watch the hard knocks.
the AFC North, you know, and you see like the hard rock stadium and what that looks like. They are landlocked. I mean, there's not a lot of space they can go. They're sitting out in Texas with just nothing but space. So the math is you can put three times as many people in there for that. Yeah. And then they have hotels that shuttle from way out, you know, whereas Miami's sort of in Las Vegas, space isn't a big place. I mean, everybody thinks it's big. That strip is not a big place. No. Yeah.
Yeah, I did. Yeah, it's crammed in. There's not a bunch of spectators. What? They have 450,000 people that watched, uh, uh, Kota. Yes. Yeah. And they've got it down and they've been there for a long time. And so it is by far the cheapest or at least the most economical to enjoy. They're doing just the one pass from Miami. Open it up with the one day for NASCAR and kids free. You know, I'm not, I'm not lined up to go see a NASCAR race, but I've thought about this Chicago thing, how cool that would look, you know, to be able to see it.
It would be interesting because the speeds aren't getting super, super high. So you get to see them easier. They're just ripping by it. So you get it. Yeah. Instead of it. Yeah. So my son lived in the South Loop and that's like one of the turns was like the hotel that we stayed at the Blackstone like was on like a turn five or something like that. So watching it a few years ago was pretty interesting. It'd be fun. Right. Where we usually stay. So.
Yeah, what a what the logistics for doing all that. I can't even imagine crazy. I mean, the idea that people both in Vegas and in Chicago that, you know, at five o'clock people are still driving on those streets, you know, and then they are literally an hour later racing. It's no different than shutting down the streets for the St. Patrick's Day parade here in Decatur.
You're going to put a barricade. Yeah. It's a little different. We can relate. You got to go around a little update on the Hot Wheels. They were available for pre order. You could get both drivers. They did have the numbers. So you could get the 11 or the one.
And they were $8 a pop for preorder. They are all preordered out, but they say they'll be available retail. They're going out throughout the whole year. They said, and there's like that. There's different packs. You can do five pack of sorts and they've got also limited edition, you know, stuff that they've got with it. Yep. I just, I'm happy to see Hot Wheels is still a thing. Yeah. That's cool. I mean, I went away. They didn't go away. Didn't come through some. That's going to be good for both off one in Hot Wheels. All right. What did you think of the Ferrari race suits?
That's only so what you can do when you start with red, right? It's pretty subtle changes. But I like the fact that they've gone back to they've messed with some colors recently, although the black ones were really cool for that one race. Oh, I loved it. Yeah. I thought the other ones. They did the blue. The blue ones were in hand. They were OK. It doesn't. They don't ever feel like McLaren or something that's going like, hey, we got to get Hewlett Packard in or something. I want to know why McLaren, some of the people in their in their garage, don't have the same color papaya.
That's off. Yeah. The second team. I mean, I don't, I don't know, but it's like they're there in every race and it's been for years. I don't know if it's the old color, if it denotes something, but it looks like, Hey, we've now changed updated our orange and you guys are still in the old. That's weird because you would assume that every year it's all new for everybody because they're different every year. I mean, they add sponsors. They take away sponsors. You know, you would think, but the color is clearly the fabric or something does on purpose. Yeah. Hmm. I don't know.
That's an interesting question. Have you ever noticed that interview? No, not really.
Yeah, it drives me nuts. Lewis looks good and red. He's going to be a good team leader for Ferrari. Which is interesting. Red isn't for everyone, right? I mean, it's a hard color to wear. I mean, you don't see a lot of red, particularly in guys clothing, right? Yeah. You know, outside of like Bobby Knight or Indiana or if you're like Ohio State or something weird, yeah, Tiger Woods, but that was. Tiger's going to be on TV tonight golfing in his red shirt and his team is going to be in the mirror.
Well, it does not care. It's like I'm wearing my shirt. Yeah, it's always company. It was Nike for years. Yeah, but just make your team your color. I don't know. But then it wouldn't, then the other people being is just make his clothes have a logo that's decent. Oh my God, it's awful.
So people listening to us talk about formula one and don't know a lot. Lewis Hamilton going to Ferrari is like Michael Jordan switching from the Bulls to another team. The Celtics at the middle of not the middle of after all the champions stop with that. No, no, no, I said it wrong.
But they're very good. They're loaded. No, no, it's him going. It's him and his career being in Washington. It's really the Yankees. Yeah. To be fair, it's the Yankees. They're going to compete. They're still premium. They're at the top of the game. They should be talking about him. Yeah. Gordon.
And I'm talking Jordan when he left the Bulls and came back to the laser. So the wizards, that is way more in line with Lewis Hamilton's career than him leaving in the middle of all the championships going to the Celtics. Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm relating it to what, how big he is to the sport. Big. Yes. The big Hamilton still holds that no all kinds of sounds and no, he's the living legend in F one. So switching and he's run two races in the last three and a half years. Well, his car.
So, well, switching from a Mercedes to Ferrari is a huge, this is big. So there's a lot of excitement around it. So it should be interesting. All right. I would.
I think that it's going to be way more interesting than most people realize. Yeah. I mean, just the dynamics. Just trying to give a correlation. There is a thing. Aren't following them. I realize it. But I think even if you're living in like Alaska and have never, you've heard the name Lewis Hamilton. I mean, he's one of those, like, world famous athletes. Sir, Sir, I'm sure it is. If you're in Britain and have that much success, it ought to be.
Nick and I had this conversation the other day. And it is absolutely 100%. He expects to be number one. He deserves me. I mean, that's you don't have that career. And then you just go, well, at the end here, I'm going to like, I'll play the number two role. Yeah, no way. No, they got to let them race. Now, there's no, but if you give me those two guys heads up, I'm going to tell you the number one driver is look clear. Yeah. And I don't think it's even close.
Yeah, unless the car was really holding back Lewis. Well, but then it was holding back George Russell and, you know, Checo had to be run out of town with three times as many wins in the last three years. Lewis Hamilton. So there's all things equal. I understand both sides, but I think the fact is
Regardless of the eight times, regardless of all of the past, regardless of how big a name he is, he's not a better driver at this point in his career than I just don't think he is. Yeah, it would be interesting. And I also don't think that, you know, here's the strange thing, signs and Shaw could fight and then get over it.
and go to the next race. They had a very unique feisty on the radio, you know, griping back at the race engineer, you know, like try it in Spanish. I love that line. But they could overcome that and get to the next race and still be teammates and still seem pretty friendly, right? Some people can do that. I would suggest you the history says most can't.
Yeah, including Lewis Hamilton, who's had plenty of, you know, I remember when you watch early in the years, right? And Botos would like, Oh, feel it for a minute. And Lewis would be like, what's he doing? Yeah. I mean, he was the ultimate teammate, you know, for Lewis. And then whenever he like, Hey, can I have this op? It's, it's there. Loose didn't want that. Yeah, this will be interesting. I want to like to be Fred.
Fred seems situated to sort of deal with that stuff. And he goes way back in Lewis's career to like the beginning. So I've known each other a long time. It's be interesting. This is what I would call a dream scenario. OK, you wait.
I think I've actually dreamed of it. Yeah. So happy it's happening. All right. We'll see. My two favorite drivers. So what happens? You know, we do all this stuff and the testing and then there's a big thing in London. They're doing, you know, at the soccer stadium with a big kickoff and, but we're what? 49 days until the actual first race we can. 46 now. Okay. Yeah. Really. We jumped three days and overnight.
Oh, it's 47 yesterday. Okay. Was it? That's 46 now. All right. Well, that's great. That feels, you know, like not that far off. No, it's not. We can get there. So what happens this year? I mean, I know a lot will happen, but who's the favorite? It's going to be hard to beat Max again.
I think the McLaren guys got some good momentum going. I don't think that that may be the fight of the year. Forget Lewis and Leclerc. It could be fight for second place. No, the fight for each other with each other could be Lando and Oscar like all season long.
Yeah, because Oscar's got that. He doesn't get hot headed, but out on the track, he's low key, like low key killer. That's exactly what it is. Yeah. Yeah. And I remember one of those at the end of the year races where Lando had pole and he just took him out like in turn one. And it was like, what's he doing? Like what do you mean? He's racing. Yeah. They give him these papaya rules are so stupid. It's going to be a good year. Yeah. It's going to be awesome. I'm excited. I have people I'm rooting for and I have people I'm rooting against. Yeah.
I didn't have people as rooting against last year. This year I have people I'm rooting against. You got to your driver's gone. So you got to find a, I'm thinking about taking the same approach as I did to the NFL. I'm just going to like, I'll find seven or eight story lines to follow. And that way I've always got something interesting. It's hard to not like pastry though. I'm going to, I want Oliver Bairman to do well because I mean, I know he's not going to be the car. He's in all of that, but I want to root for him. Yeah.
And I like the team principal there. I like what they're trying to do. That name deserves to be brought back to glory. All of that. I don't have any belief that any of that will happen this year. But I'd like for him to have a good maiden season.
Yeah. But I like all the young kids. Yeah. It's going to be exciting. And then you get to that poor Gabrielle Borlato kid over there. Like no one's talking about because he's just kind of slipped in and you know, jumped right from, you know, skipped over a lot of people by the way, but he's in that bad car, that bad team. Who's the new kid that he literally just got his regular driver's license? He's going to be F1 driver for the season and he just got his regular car driver's license. Like it might have been an Anthony. Yeah, I can. Yeah. I think he just turned 18.
Isn't that wild? Well Max was did that Max won his first race? One of the best drivers in the world, but I can't go out on them streets. Yeah. Yeah. Well that Max literally came to 18 when his first race at Red Bull and he couldn't win a car. That's right. He couldn't win a car two years ago. Right. So Jensen Button failed his first driver's test. That's hilarious.
Like it's just a total different world. Can you imagine living in a world where they put you in a car worth that much? Let you drive 200 miles an hour and you can't go to Hertz and rent a pent up. Yeah, it's crazy. That's like half the track. Oh, if you're going to Hertz, it's probably a PT cruiser. Oh, sorry. Yeah, you're right. Yeah. That's the whole amount of us.
are the HHRs. All right. Listen, stick around for a few minutes. We've got to talk about stuff at the store and what's going on. You got some events coming up and we got to take a break. So we'll do that. Nick's got your three day forecast. We'll be back with more Kyle May in studios straight ahead. Mark Topper coming up the bottom next hour.

Are you saying long stuff? Yes, he is. Love that one. He's in the bathroom playing with his Hot Wheels. This is Batman. Here you go. Kyle Bay and studios. We have a lot to get to this very early morning. Happy that the weather has turned. I know we got to look at rain in the forecast, but it's going to be like in the 40s and high 40s. I'm so stoked.
Uh, time to get outside. You had a Christmas party this past weekend. This has become a thing now. Um, we had one scheduled and then it got canceled because not enough people are as repeat or something. It's like having your Christmas party after the new year. Well, work in retail. Yeah, you're probably very busy. You know, it's pretty exhausting time. Yeah, time of year. So doing a little after is not too bad. Yeah, that's a good idea. Yeah. Thank you. And you get out of that, like everybody's trying to get a date and stuff's all booked. Yeah. So we went bowling. Okay. This is fun.
I hadn't gone for a while. I went with my family whenever we visited South Carolina. But yeah, got a couple lanes or some peaches and that's far through some bowling balls. And that's great. That's great. I think those low key things. I look, if you're a boss out there and you're planning a holiday party, don't overthink it.
Yeah, you know, I used to do dinners and take them to a nice dinner and stuff, but it was like a little stuffy and like who you sat down next to is who you were at. Talking to the whole night. Yeah, I like mingling and walking around and talking to some different people and getting no people a little bit more outside of the work environment. People get too cute by half with the stuff. It just just set up something that's fun and everybody can have a good time. Yeah, it was good. I like it. I did like a couple little raffle prizes and things like that. So yeah, it was a good time.
You've given away any of those new Hoka loafers. Yeah, the speed loafers. Have you seen those? Yeah, they're pretty awful, huh? It's like the hottest thing New Balance did this. They started this whole thing. I saw Cameron Brink, you know, plays for the Los Angeles WNBA team rock in a fashion show, but wearing the New Balance loafers and they're like selling out, man. It's a huge thing.
I yeah, I don't know if I even have access to that so that it's funny the guys at New Balance like somebody will wear like Taylor Swift wore some shit from New Balance several years ago They're like why does she wear like the 1080 the one that we have a bunch of like they wear like the most obscure ones well that is that's kind of the point Oh, yeah, that's definitely the point. There's little tassels on the front. It's pretty ridiculous right cut those things off
Oh, it's classic styling. Oh, yeah. So I don't know if we have access to those. It's part of the speed goat family, which is an interesting part. Like, you know, if you're going to do this, like why you would go to that item, not quite sure why. For the traction, so you can go off-roading to work. Maybe. That's interesting. Oh, yeah. There's 185 dollars. Yeah. Cheese. The new balance looks all right. We don't, we don't carry those in the
